I agree 👍
Hope the commercialised music of day never drowns out these ancient forms of singing and playing. Exquisite singing and what a tabla player and also the stringed instrumental players accompanying her. Thanks for posting guys.

Yes. Our classical music has many different types of music houses. This one is just a thumari. So many classical instruments. Cuisines, dance, martial arts, spiritual processes all are unique. It's rituals, talent, science, ayurveda, yoga, golden past is all awesome. Brits looted use very big but our heritage remains in our hearts. And shall always remain.

Well said. There are so many practices in this land to get control on the mind.
I practiced 5 hrs daily for 7 yrs...then i could able to sing only basic indian classical... U could imagine how hard it is

Oh man! You are now delving into the rich musico-cultural history of India. "Thumri" is a semi-classical, folk music of north-central India. Love Rick's appreciation of music.
The thing i love about Rick is that, he REALLY understands and appreciates art.. true art.. i love that about Rick
The way she keeps her knee high and sitting, is a difficult thing especially for singing. This style is usually followed in folk art, she manages to sing long aalaps with that pose, is itself incredible. And Sarangi.. is absolutely soul stirring music.
Must be Pranayam!
*Guys you are Digging Deep* !!!!

If you want to hear the epitome of Tabla... Watch ustad zakhir Hussain perform. He's the god of tabla 😊
And what about the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha, who actually brought out tabla from just being an accompanying instrument ,and father of Zakir Hussain?
Anindo Chatterjee??????ruclips.net/video/k7Qu2n7XpmY/видео.html
@@anami59 I think so he is a newbie. Let it be him to explore more ❤️. Ustad Allah Rakha Khan Sahab is a very top level legendary one and if he will just get it by starting him, he will obviously be getting bored. Just like Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar Ji, Allah Rakha Khan Sahab, then Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahab are the legendary ones. To reach them, let the newbies explore more.
The hammer for tabla is used fixed the pitch of the tabla. Because tabla skin is made of goat's leather so with temperature increase or decrease the skin changes it's pitch. These masters will know it immediately if the pitch has changed even half a note.
I cried listening to her soulful music. Being an Indian and being a lover of classical music, I feel ashamed not having known about her. Thank u sooo much for doing this video. ❤
This is thumri enjoyed in royal courts of north Indian Kings. You both are enjoying it as kings and ministers.
Our classical music is enough to prove how culturally rich India is. Rick your attention to detail is impeccable. Thanks for the reaction guys!

Indian classical singers don't perform as a band. Usually they even meet other instrument artists just hours before the performance or maybe even on the stage.
FYI: The hammer used by the tabla player is for tuning the instrument
Just a nugget of info - the gentleman on tabla is one the foremost tabla player in UK. He is an exponent of Benaras gharana(tradition) and son of tabla maestro pundit Ram Sahai.
Thumri is a semi-classical vocal style usually romantic in nature. It is always contemplative in nature where the vocalist will expand on individual words to convey mood. This composition is imbued with Viraha bhava(pain of seperation) as evidenced by the lyrics.
Yaad piyaa ki ayee (Memories of my beloved brings pain to my heart).
Thankyou so much mam
In India children start training for vocals from the age of 5 or 6 or even younger. This is years of training 🙏
Absolutely! I have my cousins who started getting trained since 3-4yrs old
And classical singers live longer n healty than pop. My observation pls.
4 minutes in, and I had forgotten I was watching Our Stupid Reactions... Wow..
Me too
This is so rare to see people reacting to classical music. I hope the newer generations develop as much skills and mastery..
I really appreciate your genuine interest in serious Indian classical music. It is so divine, soothing and peaceful and soulful. It takes to an altogether new levels. Tumri is a love song where one of the partners longs to see or meet his/ her counterpart with that soulful feelings for each other. That is pure love and longing presented musically. Wow. Superb

Your reactions are pure and honest! You guys transcend the language and culture barriers and truly appreciate good music and talent! I have long since believed that the melodic brilliance of Indian classical is art of the highest caliber and deserves more credit than it currently does. The audience itself is very limited. Truth be told, Indian classical does not have a huge fan following even in India, which is quite sad.
I noticed Apna Time Aayega temporary tattoo 🤗 awwwwwww lots of love from India🇮🇳 I like your reactions about India..
Lots of love Rick and Korbin ❤
I connect to you guys so much..... Everyday watching these videos are like meeting you in real life.... I wonder what that feeling would be to actually meet you guys❤
Same here
Unfortunately .. We Indians fail to appreciate our own culture until a westerner reminds us...
The way Korbin looks at Rick while he was explaining, it's us. Simply, it just seems how much experienced he is. Still it's so beautiful when he said, he still wants to get explored to these arts and creativity more to learn more things.
I have seen your reactions to Indian classical music and I loved them because one can see you not only admire but understand the nuances. I would really like to see your reactions to another genre Qawwali especially from Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, one of his most famous "Sansoo ki mala pe" it is a bit long but every second of it is amazing. Also there is another singer Ustad Salamat Ali Khan, gives me goosebumps to even write his name, his Thumris, Kafis and classical pieces. Indian music is so rich and has the power to transport you to another world.
Darbar, pronounced as Durr-Bar. Would roughly translate to "the court". In the old days, musicians got the patronage of Kings and royalty, so they would often grace the royal courts, called Darbar, with their performances.
Friedrich Nietzsche Thank you for teaching me that🙏🏼👍🏼😊
@@ricksegallactor also why classical performers don't stand up and perform. The people, women specifically that performed standing up were generally only there for the "entertainment" of the king, if you know what I'm saying.
That tradition trickled down to our modern times and in Hindustani classical music, standing up to perform has a negative connotation to it. It's looked upon as degradation of art and values as art isn't merely for entertainment.
Without music life would be a mistake
This all started after islami invasions when they started destroying temples.
Before that classical music and dances only performed in temples.
That was the point when difference between hindustani classical and Carnatic classical started.
Carnatic still is temple based and more Dharma rooted music and vocal.
While north Indian classical music has to changed little bit because performer were not allowed to use Hindu Gods name in their music and vocals in Islamic rulers court.
@@tejasvi18joshi well the Islamic invasions did start in the 14th-15th century. So it's in no way shape or form an inorganic imposition of arts, nor is it a recent phenomenon. It's been going on since the medieval times. Besides, I think it only added to the beauty of things rather than taking anything away.
You make it sound like as if Hindustani classical music is inferior or suffered because of the Persian influence.
Your choices are getting better and better, love to u... Watch jugalbandi (duo) of different instruments and there r many legends like Pt.Ravishankar, Pt.Shivkumar Sharma, Ustad Allha Rakha, Ustad Jakir Hussain, Pt.Hari Prasad, Pt.Bhimsen Joshi, Pt.Rahul Sharma and many...

KORBIN AND RICK!!!!! I LOVE YOU YOU FOR THIS. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REACTING TO THIS. 😍 i thought you're never gonna see my suggestion in the 1000s of others. 😍😍
Thumri is a redention style more used in vocal redention in Hindustani (north indian) Classical. Developed during Mughal Era (15th century) but some scholar attribute it to Amir Khusro school (13th centuary). This thumri is in Raag Bhina Shadaj probably. Thumri is more difficult than Bandish which we usually listen.
It's in Mishra bhairavi i think.....
Wow Rick's reaction was worth seeing!!

Rahat fateh ali khan’s Performance at nobel piece ceremony and “afreen afreen” at coke studios, you’re gonna be blown away!!
Rahat is bullshit in front of this. Believe me.
Rahat is a third class piece of shit...pakistani musical heritage is a teardrop compared to our ocean of musical heritage
@@rahulmeenoth There is no separate "Pakistani musical heritage". Its all Indian. Except a few northwestern folk traditions unique to their regions, which we lost to partition, all of Pakistani music and art culture is Indian culture. Only difference is, they have inculturated everything Indic into an Urdu-based Islamic (largely Sufi) mould.
Fabulous
rahul m, yeah i know that pure indian classical music has no match but it doesn’t mean that u should not listen to anything admirable just because it comes from pakistan or simply because it doesn’t belong to our own classical heritage!!
Brothers you are doing fantastic job...you guys are touching indians heart by your amazing choice of your videos, always your big fan
Korbin, the hammer thing the tabla player used, is for tuning the tabla. I was taught singing from the age of 4. I dont even remember when I first started learning. And then I was taught art and dancing as well but obviously in no way close to her. Cultural expression is a very Bengali thing, henceforth, we have singers, dancers, actors, basically any form of artist, in every single home.
