I'm an Italian Canadian and I'm a HUGE fan of Indian Classical music. Its other worldly. The style, training, intensity and spirituality is...well...there are no words!
Nina Burmi uses her smooth three-octave vocal range to explore the thumri style - a semi-classical genre intimately connected with dance. Thumri is a vocal genre or style of Indian music. The term "thumri" is derived from the Hindi verb thumakna , which means "to walk with dancing steps so as to make the ankle-bells tinkle." The form is thus, connected with dance, dramatic gestures, mild eroticism, evocative love poetry and folk songs especially from Uttar Pradesh, though there are regional variations.
The text is romantic or devotional in nature, the lyrics are usually in Uttar Pradesh dialects of Hindi called Awadhi and Brij Bhasha. Thumri is characterized by its sensuality, and by a greater flexibility with the raga.

She is amazing!
She sung this in 2006, and she is based in UK I believe. Until last year I had never heard of her, even though I have been listening to Indian classical music since 30+ years. She has very few videos on youtube, less than 5 I think. She is fantastic, I want to hear more of her work. She has probably retired, considering we can't find her recent work anywhere.
Saragi is the instrument he is playing. Her voice is the training of at least 25 years of training and these singers come to the world after the training and when they reach this stage they keep learning and know how to control their vocal cords and start experiments, she is no dropout a very good singer, but their are so many that sing at this standard in India, it will take years to listen to only in this classical style there are at lest another 20 styles and house to learn from and at a another few hundred rages to hear and ther are so many instrument that are in India.
Roy Gupte No female singer in India currently has a voice like Nina’s. Can’t understand why and where she vanished!
Also one has to start at the age of 3 to 5 so that while they grow practising every day for (2 to 5 hours daily) their vocal cords grows accordingly. Although many singers who started very late have beautiful voice naturally an early start is the proper way to play this game.
SHE IS NOT A POPULAR SINGER OF INDIA. SUCH DEVOTIONAL SINGERS NEVER CARE FOR FAME OR MONEY. AS A MATTER OF FACT, INDIA HAS MILLIONS OF SINGERS OF THIS LEVEL SCATTERED ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY. THEIR GREATNESS IS THAT THEY SING FOR THEMSELVES AND NOT FOR THE MASSES. THATS THE SECRET OF THEIR DIVINITY AND PURITY. 🙏❤️

Other instrument which has same like violin is called Sarangi better than violin, and Drum is called Tabla.

Try looking for Kaushiki Chakraborty, is good. As for semi classical Hindi film songs try Radhike tune bansari, Zanak zanak tori and Madhuban mein Radhika etc. Cool music from the 60s.
