I love Undertaker's take on this. It wasn't Goldberg's fault but rather he was upset that he didn't realize the issues on hand. As a musician, I always pride myself on being able to improvise when someone makes a mistake. Recently I was working with a young guy and I thought we were going great, that I absolutely missed his error on one of our last songs, and we totally messed up. People blamed him....but I supported him. He made a mistake but we are a team and I messed up by not covering. As the group leader, I really should have picked up on it.
"The Breaks" as u get older... I know 60yr olds that still play contact sports like Rugby... but the secret is they never stop, cuz once u do.... it is tough to get it going again
Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of criticism about the match because of Goldberg necessary mind you these two guys are old. They’re not young anymore so you can’t expect them to continue to do something they used to do just because they’re in shape there’s a difference between being in shape and being Young
You can’t help but love Undertaker. Both of those guys, looked great for their age at the time, but were still just shadows of their former selves. That would have been a dream match back in the early 2000s. I know Goldberg wasn’t the best worker, but when he was in the ring with pros, that knew how to work a good match, and set their ego aside, they were able to actually get good matches out of him. Taker, definitely would have been one of those guys. Unfortunately, we didn’t get it until very late in their careers, and it was a debacle.
Though I cannot stand Goldberg, it's mighty big of Mark to accept his hand in that blunder of a match. You don't hear a wrestler pretty much say "I had no business being in that ring" often. You are still a legend, Mark. Everyone's career has some dark spots.

In a lot of Marks interviews i notice something really noble about the guy. He is always taking responsibility for a not so good match like its on him even when it is the other wrestlers responsibility to deliver. Especially a veteran like Goldberg. She can happen but i notice Mark always blames himself that he didn't do enough to make it better.
Undertaker was the guy calling the match. Goldberg rose to meteoric success, but was green even when he was on top. Then spent over a decade away and made this little comeback run. He was still the less experienced guy, and they had never worked together. Goldberg has also taken the blame and feels bad about it, because both guys had huge impacts on the business during its biggest time and wanted to do this for the fans and each other. Instead, it collapsed. Undertaker takes the blame because he's a guy who is SO experienced and always expects the best from himself. It was unfortunate to see, but what's worse is the crappy fans who don't know anything (but think they do) who start blaming either of these two legends for what happened.
The Undertaker and Goldberg was more of the WWF vs WCW dream match then Taker vs Sting, y'all need to remember sting was the blonde surfer sting when undertaker was the deadman.
Undertaker should’ve used Hells Gate as his finisher towards Goldberg. He had a really hard time picking him up in the match even Goldberg too. One to remember in the books in wrestling history.
I still think that both of them had some dehydration issues and possibly some exhaustion from the heat. I've had both and neither is pleasant especially at their age.
I will always be both a Goldberg and Undertaker fan. But that match really hurt both their later careers (For Goldberg especially) and I hope that people know that it was a case of just two guys that were past their prime, trying to put on a match like they were in it. The best they could've done would've been to have Goldberg hit numerous spears, Taker sitting up and Goldberg getting locked in the hells gate to pass out.
I find for myself after he lost to Lesnar at the WM in New Orleans, I stopped caring for his wrestlemania matches. After that loss, his matches just felt like another match on the card, there was nothing special about them anymore because “the streak” was the appeal for me, and once that was broken, i just didn’t care anymore.
Undertaker said in an interview over 20 years ago that he didn't want to stay around long enough to tarnish his legacy and make young fans wonder if he was ever any good. He knew it then, he has seen old wrestlers do it and he wanted no part in it, yet he failed to avoid it. The Eldertaker in his last few years had nothing resembling a good match, and it is a shame that he tarnished his legacy to this extend, it is also a shame that this atrocious match against Oldberg was his last singles match (no, that taped c-movie skit in someones backyard does not count as a wrestling match). The match didn't fall about due to mentality problems, Eldertaker was just way too broken down physically to have a passable match unless carried to it by an amazing young wrestler, instead he got Oldberg, a man who couldn't carry anyone to a passable match even in his prime days so obviously it all fell apart. Taker must have known how bad this would turn out, everyone else knew it after all, the dollar signs just made him do it anyway.
WWE should have done what AEW did with Sting's last run. Put Undertaker in a tag team with a young guy who can "run around", take the bumps and Undertaker could still do his big spots. It would have extended Undertaker's career and it gets a young guy over. "2 birds, 1 stone."
Randy Orton (pre back surgery long absence) said the same thing about his pairing with Riddle as RK-Bro. Riddle took all the bumps so Randy could get the big pop hot tag and run finishers.
When that match was announced, ngl, I was hyped up. But reality quickly set in, and I was like "this is an awesome match idea, but it should've been done in 2003.".
Mike Chioda, the ref, didnt believe goldberg was concussed before the match, because goldberg, while waiting for the undertaker, ran the match back to Mike, to be on the same page, but as soon as Goldberg hit the ring post it spiraled badly Besides Mike also said it was a hideous working environment, with the heat and jet lag
Another thing about getting older is because you have to try just a little harder to pull things off, you have to pay a little more attention to form and technique etc. and I think that in itself takes a person out of that flow state where decisions and reactions just happen naturally.
The Undertaker is one of my top favorite but Goldberg He's always been my favorite one on one match of all time because if it weren't for him who came into my life and many others back in 1997 when I was 12 years old, I would have not watched wrestling period... @@Wongwongwong10000 at the end of the day, being technical in the ring doesn’t mean anything if you’re not putting asses on seats. This is on WWE for being greedy.
It would be cool if you guys would add a clip of the match after the interview, great podcast love it
Undertaker vs Goldberg its too late ,maybe 2016 ..but 2003-2004 would be cool match between these two, Undertaker vs Sting would be also cool maybe 12-13 years ago
@IStevenSeagal I mean Wrestlemania 28 Sting vs Undertaker..would be epic
We got prime Kane vs Goldberg… look up that match!
That’s similar to how a prime undertaker vs Goldberg match would be
@@LK56835 Kane is not Undertaker
@@scarlet7396 same type of fighters, are brothers, so basically the same
Taker should've been retired before 2016.
I'm just happy that no one was seriously injured in that match. The tombstone was horrible almost as bad as the jackhammer. Just a scary match to watch. I still remember Michael Cole sounding genuinely horrified when the jackhammer landed.
Taker is such a class act
Great interview
I think it is funny in a wierd way how there are so many marks out there who can tell you which Wrestlemania it was when the Undertaker lost the streak but yet the Undertaker himself is like "Which Wrestlemania was that?!" lol.
That is one Hell of a concussion when he can't remember anything from 2pm that day till the time he was in the hospital.
I am really enjoying these post career Undertaker shoot interviews. It amazes me how he just seems to be such a laid back cool, NICE GUY! So completely different than the character we saw him play all those years, much like a Stan Hansen or Stone Cold Steve Austin. It just makes you appreciate the dedication to plating that character that he had all the more and on a different level than you did back in the day
Not that funny. Years of drugs, alcohol, and head trauma will tend to lead to a shoddy memory
@@glich86 That is the not so funny part for the guy who did the booze and took the drugs and the head shots.
The hysterical part is the marks that would act as if you or I had committed blasphemy if one of us had said the Undertaker had lost the streak at the wrong Wrestlemania.
NEEERDS!!! GET A LIFE!!!
@@glich86 okay and? I'm supposed to have sympathy for what another grown man chose to do with his free time?
I love Undertaker's take on this. It wasn't Goldberg's fault but rather he was upset that he didn't realize the issues on hand. As a musician, I always pride myself on being able to improvise when someone makes a mistake. Recently I was working with a young guy and I thought we were going great, that I absolutely missed his error on one of our last songs, and we totally messed up. People blamed him....but I supported him. He made a mistake but we are a team and I messed up by not covering. As the group leader, I really should have picked up on it.
No moron. It was completely Oldberg's fault. He was already bleeding from head butting a locker like an idiot.
"wasn't Goldbergs fault"...... The guy headbutted a wall on purpose pre match

Taker and Goldberg should have met years earlier, that probably would have been a much better match.
Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of criticism about the match because of Goldberg necessary mind you these two guys are old. They’re not young anymore so you can’t expect them to continue to do something they used to do just because they’re in shape there’s a difference between being in shape and being Young
You can tell this match really affected Taker & still does
You can’t help but love Undertaker.
Undertaker is the epitome of a professional wrestler.
“I broke my back.”- Mike Tyson
Spinal 😂 #Tyson
Seeing this guy when he made his first appearance, seeing him now talking here. He sure came out of his shell.
Though I cannot stand Goldberg, it's mighty big of Mark to accept his hand in that blunder of a match. You don't hear a wrestler pretty much say "I had no business being in that ring" often. You are still a legend, Mark. Everyone's career has some dark spots.
I remember seeing this and Undertaker was angry and it stood out to me because I was really used to him never reacting to anything
0:11 you had some matches that you shouldn’t have.
Mtfkr should have retired after WM 28 H.I.T.C. and with rare/occasional appearances.... didn't get anything done- absolutely nothing.... I don't think Romain needed that WM win bcus Romain kept losing big matches anyway for a while!!!!
@@New__TranZ__OrderRoman vs taker was a horrible decision.
@@yungozXXX Roman was getting pushed and the fans didn't accept him for years....
Getting over through the UnderTaker does wonders for wrestling careers....
For Roman to face an out of shape, declined (not declining), balding AND DEFEATED old man in his 50s shouldn't have been a big deal at all!!!!
I'm not saying the fans should have embraced Roman, but they/you act like it was a sin for the guy to be the face of the company when he was beloved as a Shield member....
You all didn't make the company to lose money after they put Lesnar over.... WWE should've seen a major hit in all sales/revenue for the next year-plus- a part-timer dominates all competition in PPV matches only and ends The Streak.... that's a slap in the face to the fans and a second slap bcus the guy that worked through injuries, that showed every ounce of appreciation for his opportunity, that has become the only guy that has touched so many lives/careers with NO NEGATIVITY SPOKEN ON HIS NAME- just to throw the main focus of his career away to a roided up musclehead that walked away from the company twice.... and, a third slap when the only guy to beat Lesnar in a major match AND CLEAN in a 7-8 year span was Triple H!!!!
I don't get it with you people- UnderTaker set a standard of unique character so therefore you love him, Lesnar set a standard for realism and "the super-athlete" so therefore you love him, Shawn Michaels set a standard of excellence without physical dominance so therefore you love him.... but a regular guy that drinks beer, runs his mouth, and (before '98) could barely whoop anybody is loved, even with a potbelly, poor gym ethic, and dogcrap matches is loved over all of these guys, and then comes Roman- he's hated because he wanted to be the ultimate champion.... Roman wasn't ANY worse than Dean or Seth and certainly not StrowMan.... you guys pick 'n choose and that's fine, but it's ridiculous to have a B-fit over a guy being pushed when you all approve of other undeserved wrestlers getting pushed!!!!

Respect to Mark Calaway 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Happy Retirement Man , Thanks for those great memories 👍🏻👍🏻
“Dude it was a scary match to be in”
🤣😂😅
Everybody blamed Goldberg for the match but he was hurt massive respect to taker for taking responsibility after and saying he was at fault fair play
Saw UT wrestle for WCW in 1990-1991 as Mean Mark.
I wish I could have went back and comprehended who I was truly seeing!
So agile for his height!
He was a basketball player before he went professional wrestling which would of helped. Class wrestler though.
If the undertaker and Goldberg work together like 23 years earlier they would’ve had a better match
undertaker i always respected him for him being a stand up dude and he even took the blame for the match with goldberg what a pro
I honestly never thought we'd see a match between undertaker and Goldberg.
If Taker has no beef with Goldberg about this match then the fans shouldn't either.
Nope. Oldberg was a dumbass. He didn't need to headbutt lockers. He didn't need to end Brets career. He didn't need to injure countless people.
It's not that, it's that Goldberg is the legendary stiff worker. That's why he gets all the hate. Taker has always been a class act.
They’re weird
1:05 makes rocks performance at mania quite impressive like hunter said
Agreed.
Very good explanation of his psychological processes!
Impressive!
Professor-Marty.
What a man he's one of the best
The Undertaker and Goldberg was more of the WWF vs WCW dream match then Taker vs Sting, y'all need to remember sting was the blonde surfer sting when undertaker was the deadman.
Chris set the thumbnail up perfect to make me think he was about to dig Goldberg. Lmao. Well played sir.
Undertaker should’ve used Hells Gate as his finisher towards Goldberg. He had a really hard time picking him up in the match even Goldberg too. One to remember in the books in wrestling history.
Taker was over the hill by then and Goldberg had never been up the hill in the first place.
I still think that both of them had some dehydration issues and possibly some exhaustion from the heat. I've had both and neither is pleasant especially at their age.
This is what made Taker locker room general manager
Translation I was too old to make Goldberg look good in a match 😂
😂 💯 accurate

I will always be both a Goldberg and Undertaker fan. But that match really hurt both their later careers (For Goldberg especially) and I hope that people know that it was a case of just two guys that were past their prime, trying to put on a match like they were in it. The best they could've done would've been to have Goldberg hit numerous spears, Taker sitting up and Goldberg getting locked in the hells gate to pass out.
I always felt Taker was a shell of himself the last 7-8 Manias. The entrance was beyond over but the work was subpar.
I love taker but he overstayed a little too long
Vs John cena it did not feel like that.
The CM Punk match was the last time he as at his A-game
@@saimcheeda93was thinking the same, the Lesnar matches post WM 30 were good but after that, it wasn’t great although was still cool to see taker.
He feels guilty about this, when Goldberg hurt MANY wrestling partners being careless numerous times. Shows what a class act he is.
I mean yeah the match happened because a literal Saudi prince wants that match and put in mega figures for it to happen, it is what it is eventually
Should have done that match in 2004
But Taker redeemed himself with that tag match with Roman Reigns
Man ya can hear his voice breaking, shows his absolute passion ☝💞
I can totally get behind his attitude 👍
Now we know it’s undertakers fault not goldbergs
Now if we could get Bret to admit it was his fault everyone can agree that Goldberg is the GOAT
I love you didn't put the annoying /s
This what the locker room needs
Goldberg was a prime example that you don't always have to be a pro to be in pro wrestling.
Has the whole interview dropped yet? I can't find it
I hella thought that was a picture of a burrito off to the right of him 😂😂😂
That Saudi Oil Money makes a parody of anyone.
I actually cried after watching that match
Undertaker should be a big fixture of the performance centre passing his wealth of knowledge on the young talent
2 birds, 1 stone and 0 cares.
This man is a legend🔥
A legend at sucking.
When that match was announced, ngl, I was hyped up.
But reality quickly set in, and I was like "this is an awesome match idea, but it should've been done in 2003.".
Mike Chioda, the ref, didnt believe goldberg was concussed before the match, because goldberg, while waiting for the undertaker, ran the match back to Mike, to be on the same page, but as soon as Goldberg hit the ring post it spiraled badly
Besides Mike also said it was a hideous working environment, with the heat and jet lag
And hes the reason why became a fan of Eddie Guerrero R.I.P. Rey mysterio, the Undertaker, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Booker T. The Rock, Chri Jericho, Macho Man Randy Savage and Stone Cold Steve Austin...
