Theres a local track near me that has immediately named their corners when they opened, and theyre great names and known throughout California. Buttonwillow has corners with the name: Off-ramp, Cotton Corners, Grapevine, Dog Leg. Thats one of the main reasons everyone loves that, because we just know the turns that create those names.

Trivia: hardcore fans might already know it, but the Senna S curves at Interlagos are not a posthumous homage. Ayrton himself had a say in the layout of this part of the track when F1 moved from Rio to his hometown of São Paulo in 1990, so it was named after him.

There is also a slight diference between the names that FIA F1 (and other motorsport branches) give to the circuit and the names that the circuit officials gives itself. I live not to far of the circuit and have been there many times. At some places around the track there is a circuit map/guide panel. On that panel some names are not the same as they give it in Formula 1.
An example is turn 12. In most of the Racing competitions (FIA F1, Blancpain GT) they call it 'Pouhon' while on the track itself it is called 'Double Gauche' that means 'Double left' in French.
Like this, the circuit officials don't recognize turn 11 as the Jacky Ickx corner because that is already a coner name at the other circuit 'Zolder' in Belgium.

Could someone just make a website where the F1 community could suggest names for the corners? I know that would certainly descend into "Corner McCornerface" territory and almost certainly worse areas, but I think there's a project for someone to mastermind the mass naming of corners at Tilkedromes.
Maybe it's a public vote, maybe the community bring suggestions to a panel of F1 experts, like yourself, who then make a final decision, or draw up a shortlist which then gets voted on.
Let's just do it unofficially if F1/circuits themselves won't do it.

Ideally corner names are relevant to the circuit locally though, referring to local features, people or what have you. Suggestions are fine, if only to provide a reason to bring out real names better than what fans come up with.

Think on Interlagos. Corners like Laranjinha, Ferradura, Bico do Pato, Junçao or Arquibancadas may have no meaning for non-Brazilians, but they do have a meaning for them. _Laranjinha_ had once an _orange tree_ , _Ferradura_ was once _horseshoe_-shaped (before the re-layout), _Bico do Pato_ is _duckbill_-shaped, _Junçao_ is were the new layout and the old layout _join_ , and _Arquibancadas_ was once the only place with _bleachers_

In Interlagos (as in most brazilian tracks), each turn has a name with a real meaning to it, each attributed in the good old days (mostly 40s and 50s):
Curva do Sol (Sun Turn): When drivers approached it (in the old layout, not happening anymore), the sunlight would affect drivers vision.
Curva da Ferradura (Horseshoe Turn): Self explanatory, just look at the shape of the turn.
Curva do Pinheirinho (Little Pinetree Turn): There were a pinetree after the turn, where drivers used to collide with.
Curva da Junção (Joint Turn): Where the oval and mixed track layout merges.
Curva do Café (Coffee Turn): Has this name because in the early days, commentators and journalists would prepare coffee in a shack over there. The smell of the drink was so strong that drivers could smell from far.
Subida do Lago (Lake Climb): Has it name because there is a - guess it? - lake after the turn. In the old layout, it was Descida do Lago (Lake Descent), since it was backward at this point.
BONUS: The track is called Interlagos, the name of the neighborhood where it's located, and it means "betweek lakes". The track is located between two dam reservoirs and not actual lakes.

Baku has no corner names with any official recognition, while the names you mention for Singapore are those of streets the track runs along, not of actual corners. Singapore does have named corners, but only a handful of them and I doubt you could tell me which they are and how they're named without looking them up. I certainly couldn't name you more than one.

@@Quintinohthree I think that the Castle section will eventually become "official", that chicane is challenging and Leclerc will not be the last driver to crash there.
Isn't Chain Bear's suggestion to name corners and sections in city circuits after the actual street names anyway?

@@Ramboost007 Certainly, given enough use eventually it could become an official name, but the point is that it already should be.
And yes, usimg street names to name sections of street circuits is fine, it certainly works for sections of Indycar's street circuits, but named corners are important independent of named streets.

a decent idea is making a meme blow up about a corner that is may be Implemented . We need GLOCK Corner at Brazil or Val'terri, eto Dzheyms at Russia (turn 11). (it means valterri its James) in Russian.

Thank you! I have argued the same for years, since danish TV announcers started referring to corners with numbers.
Every time a corner is referred to with a number, you have to mentally drive through the entire track to figure out what corners they talk about. Refer to corners by name; Tosa, Spoon, Pouhon, and I’m there in a flash!

"It's much easier to pick out and remember the best parts of them (the tracks) if they have an identity". And that's were the problem lies: most of these racetracks lack an identity related to their heritage as sites dedicated for motorsport.
Most of the examples given in the video are references related to the nearby places located right next to these corners, or were given after famous local drivers.
The chase of F1 for newer destinations and markets has led up to this, a championship that altogether lacks character and identity. Instead of keep building new tracks, they should go back to the historical sites that have fallen apart in terms of infrastructure and renew them. Get back to the root.

3:32 The left at the bottom is Eau rouge because the Eau rouge stream pass under it and the left on top it's called Raidillon.
4:55 In Belgium we unnofficially name it Speaker's Corner because you can see it from the old speaker's tower
