    Edit: Tabac chicane cannot be removed due to lack of run off, noted thanks! Either way though, smaller cars in 2026 ideally and an extended circuit would be nice. Perhaps the Tabac chicane could just be made less harsh and maintain a little more pace through it.

    • @somethingdifferentprobably
      @somethingdifferentprobably 3 года назад +3

      @Cristián Salinas How so? Removing dirty air from being a massive problem helps bring things closer, because of ground effect not caring too much. Cost caps reduce the advantage rich teams have, and making ERS more complex would introduce more strategy into the mix. Have you seen any team compete for 1st in the v6 era that isn't named Mercedes, Ferrari, and now Red Bull? There are huge gaps, and everyone deserves to win if their team is ingenious and their driver fast enough.
      These new regs will shake things up in the first few years, but afterwards things will fall back to being more stable.

    • @tempest20000
      @tempest20000 3 года назад

      He’s the problem. Look at Monaco from the last decade. From 09-16, were there any really good races? No. Honestly, I feel the 09-13 regs were a misstep as well. One that could have worked out, but the introduction of DRS and Pirelli tires put an end to the intrigue after 2010. And the 14-16 regs were even worse.
      The previous era cars I think were the perfect example of F1 cars. The 98-08 cars. I feel the length was perfect, the aero looked great and the noise of both the V8 and V10s were fantastic. The 95-97 cars looked excellent but they just like the modern cars, were to wide.
      F1 should be more nimble and agile. I think back to the 70s and early 80s design of F1 cars or the late 90s to late 00s. I think a mix of the two is the correct size. The smaller, less aero dynamic designs would reduce costs and the smaller size could create more action. I feel that’s the change that needs to be made. Go smaller and more agile.

    Have 3 ferries lined up right b4 the tunnel (basically where the track starts running along the coast). Twice during the race the cars have to stop and take the slow ferry across to Rascasse. You can't just wait to take the ferry at the end when everyone else already has cuz there are only 3 ferries, you can only use them when one is back from dropping off a previous driver. My 2 cents, before watching the video! (so I don't get influenced by it)
    Quali in Monaco is amazing, so make it longer! Add a Q4 top 5 shootout (1 lap only maybe).
    And since the race is boring, make it shorter, with 2 mandatory pit stops (most of the overtakes and the action happen there, usually). Also, make it so every one has to use all of the 3 different tyre compounds.
    Edit: also, award points for quali and decrease the amount of points for the race.

      The race though? Make it a 100 lap test of endurance, like it was back when Moss won his first. The added specter of reliability concerns will spice up the show in the absence of overtakes. Oh, and one more thing....

    • @bradwavemb

      @@mitchell-wallisforce7859 I've seen this idea of smaller cars brought up quite often. How though?
      Make teams invest tens of millions into a smaller car just for one race? Only a bunch of teams would have the resources to do that.
      Make cars smaller in general? Well... they just agreed upon the new regulations. Good luck changing things now, just to accomodate for better racing in Monaco.
      Use other cars? Not F1 anymore, sorry...
      Regarding your other ideas, i don't know. An endurance race at Monaco would kinda be a torture to watch. Excitement doesn't come from retirements or crashes, in my opinion.
      (Edit: I'm not saying endurance is about retirements and crashes, far from that. It's just that Monaco is not suited for endurance imho and F1 cars aren't either...)
      My "proposal" focuses on already existing rules. So no major changes would be required, it would be easy to implement and easy to follow for viewers. Just one more stage of quali and one more pit stop, which are the areas were Monaco shines! More of that, less of the rest.

    • @EmyrDerfel
      @EmyrDerfel 3 года назад +1

      Attack mode always starts at the activation zone, in this case going way off line to the left of Casino Square. The three key differences are
      1: attack mode always lasts a defined period, versus DRS resetting the next time the brakes are used
      2: you can begin an attack mode period on any lap except the first two (unless safety car or full course yellow which is basically VSC) so long as you're not already in attack mode
      3: activation is essentially a mini-joker, you have to go off-line and lose time and possibly track position to activate it and get the higher power. F1 aero means the space within a few seconds behind any other car is a perma-joker, making you work harder to hold the gap until it's small enough for DRS.

    I'll be honest. I have never liked Monaco as an F1 circuit. It's usually the most boring race of the year unless there are some crashes. The only reason they keep going back year after year is that Monaco is a playground for the rich. If this race was in any other city with a cramped circuit like this it would have been dropped years ago. Personally, Monaco is one I can do without. Also, I don't think adding a joker or mega joker lap would work any better because it would still be on the cramped streets of Monaco.

The best "Monaco Fix" I've seen prior to this (there's been a spate of them) was on Josh Revell's channel, to bridge over the track and take the hairpin in the opposite direction. Search Josh Revell Solving Monaco's overtaking problems (kinda), it's the last suggestion in the video.

    You can do a few minor tweaks to the track as well. First get rid of Anthony Noghes corner and open up Rascasse. 2nd move the Nouvelle Chicane down further to allow a bigger breaking zone. Finally widen Casino Square and Mirabeau just a little bit. This would only require minor structural changes that could be done between seasons.

    The "super qualifying sunday" might pose a problem, as in: if starts to rain, or if it started wet but after one hour the track is dry again.
    Also, it looks like the best solution is indeed the car. But then F1 should use 'custom' parts, which, if I reckon correctly, is an abominable idea in the F1 community.

    • @IanMcCloghrie
      @IanMcCloghrie 3 года назад

      No "might" about it, changing conditions with single car qualifying create grossly unfair situations where driver A is allowed to do his laps in the dry and driver B is required to do them in the rain. To preserve fairness the conditions need to be the same for everyone and that's only possible with an open lapping format like we have for qualifying now. Yes, if you wait too long you might get screwed by a red flag or rain or something, but it was your own choice to wait that long.
      Also the sliding time window "super qualifying sunday" would likely just turn out like elimination qualifying did, where it just kind of peters out towards the end.

      It would be interesting, for just one or two seasons initially, to abandon Monaco and use, say, Circuit Paul Ricard. During those two seasons redesign F1 cars to be shorter and more compact, which could offer just as much grip on a lighter car, while reducing the "clear air turbulence" effect, thereby helping overtaking and wheel to wheel racing. If successful, this would allow Monaco to be used once more.

  • @sd3693

    Make the Mega Joker add up to exactly 1.5 times, or exactly 2 times, or some convenient multiple of the standard lap, and run the race as the Three Hours of Monaco, endurance-style, with drivers able to go off on the joker lap any time they feel like it, and have it count as 1.5 or 2 or however many laps.

      Smaller and lighter, yes. Basically, the FIA missed a trick not making the teams work with the 2008 length and width restrictions when drawing up the 2022 rules.
      Make the cars smaller and free up the regs to gain back the lap time. Let the teams utilize F-ducts, tuned mass dampers, blown diffusers, double diffusers.....whatever they feel will give them lap time. Boom. Now we have the fastest racing cars of all time AND they're small enough to pass.
