- With all the tire options out there, what kind should you put on your ebike?
Let's compare slick tires vs knobby tires in this video and get an answer!
I was sent a pair of Kenda 20x4-1/4 slick tires for testing from Mihogo. Since I use my Mihogo NX ebike on a lot of asphalt and paved roads, Mihogo thought it might be cool to do a comparison between the stock knobby tires and these new slick tires. Are the slicks more quiet? How was the feel of the ride with these tires? Check out this video for my results!

Yes if you like knobby tires be prepared to replace them every few months , I'm @ 240lbs. and found my tires were needing replaced about every 3 months because my bike is my only transport and on average $70-$80 was too expensive for me , cutting costs was why I decided to only ebike in the 1st place . I've been using a set of Chao Yang street tires that I picked up on ebay for about $50 a piece and have over 3000 miles on them , glad I went ahead and bought a 2nd set before they ran out .
I think the knobby tires wear out too fast I'm going to get the regular tread ones next time
Same. Most knobbies are paper thin. Street tires are way thicker rubber. 700 miles on my fat tire folder, tires were past the wear indicators. I don't ride in the rain or off road. Knobbies are incredibly noisy, and annoying imo.
My knobby tires were done after 700 miles. Went with slicks and the ride is much smoother. Time will tell if they last longer.
@daxc1972 They will. My Chao Yang knobbies are very loud, and flat easily. I'll be changing to motorcycle tires before winter.
Great info, thanks
I've gotten two flats in 300 miles on my street tire style tires ( ride swift bmx) definitely excited to try out some crown gem mpgs 💙
New sub, dope video
Cool video subbed liked
Do you find the slick road tires give you more distance per battery charge as compared to the off-road tires?
Thanks for the helpful info. I just purchased a new e-bike with slick tires and had some concerns. PS. I’m in love with the orange 3-spoke wheels on this bike. Bad ass.
You have your front forks locked out? At around 5 minutes in it looks like it. Good video
My bike uses knobby tires 20x4. Never had a flat in 3500 miles. Brand CST but I have to change them the lifetime is out
That neighborhood looks very charming what town is this
The major issue I found using slick type tires is you have to watch out for any loose sand or gravel in cornering at certain speeds, the bike can slide right from under you. I prefer knobbies. 😁
Combi is cool too
Can you do a video on Tannus or Cushcore inserts and whether their rotational mass depletes more battery and cuts down range?
dude its not ASHphalt it is asphalt as in ass-- fault
HAHAHA!!!!
Drove me crazy too.
Wonder where he’s from and if other people over there say it like that. Lowkey cringe
@@marquell1001 if it was my guess he doesn’t want to say the word ass
I just ran my knobby tires till they became almost slick. They work great for pavement riding. Had about 4500 miles before they got that way but I like the way they are now. I still get to run softer air ride too.
Hi Tedwalker What brand of tires do you have that got 4500 miles? Im in NYC (Queens) and while we don't have the best roads I can say that so far between both ebikes I have rode about 2700 miles and only got ONE flat. Keep in mind im very careful and always on the look out for broken glass and debris!!
You should try tannus armour will give more cushion on bumps
what about on wet roads slick vs. nubby tires if you hit some dirt or something around
a corner you can slip which ones are better
I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF THE SLICK TIRES WOULD IMPROVE BATTERY LIFE AND BY HOW MUCH
Slick for more range and speed, knobby for more gripping offroad.
You seem to have wisdom regarding Ebike tires, so one big concern I have about Ebike Fat Tires is the treadlife seems really short in many cases. I really don't like the idea
of having to change the tires because the treads are wearing out after less than 1000 miles. Most likely the Ebike Im going to choose won't have puncture resistant tires
anyway, so I was thinking about the perfect Ebike tire and I think that would be a tire with above average treadelife (from long city commuting on paved streets) and be either tubeless
(which is almost non existant in Fat tire form) or comes with a puncture resistant innertube: (any thoughts anyone on my comment) ?
Im glad you mentioned this! My Ecotric 26" fat tire Ebike has about 2200 miles and I'd say the rear tire is about 55-60% worn and the front about 35-40% worn. I also have the Aniioki AQ 177 Pro Max and its an early one with no name tires and the rear looks like it is almost worn down at about 650 miles! For some reason I think my bike was a "return" and not new and had some miles on it. It didnt click with me until I noticed the tire wear in the rear. Could be just cheap tires too not sure,
No response...Just like Mihogo!
Mihogo's support team has been amazing with their fast and helpful responses. We've had our RX4 for over a month and we are very happy campers.

How long did it take to get the mihogo bike delivered to your home?
My time really would not be accurate for you because it was sent to me free for review. I needed to wait until the demo units arrived for review. My family and I have been having a blast with it!

What was your top speed with the road tires?
i wish i could get them for my full size fat bike. 26 inch. if you know wher to get them please drop me a link, thanks. i have looked but there are so many, and all nobbys
@bobhartwell3262 I know what you mean. I've been looking endlesly for non-knobby tires for my 26x4 fat tire bike. check these out: Origin8 Supercell Wire Bead Fat Bike Tires, 26 x 4.0", Black/Black. I just ordered them after seeing several reviews and videos. Good luck on your search! 🙂
knoby or not i see i lots of people riding ebike with not enough air in the back tire. PUMP IT up and you must save a lots of riding time on one battery
I agree but not just E-Bikes even regular bikes. Many ride around with under inflated tires. Both of my Ebikes call for about 20 PSI but I inflate them to 21.5-22 and never had an issue. I go a bit higher to get more range and also so I have to check the air pressure less frequently! As I know it goes down after a month or two by 1-3 PSI
Where can I buy these tires? I cant seem to locate them? What model Kenda are they?
Is accelerating affected on asphalt between the two tyres ?
Would it be crazy to mix match tires. Or use the tires already on the bike?
The mountain tire is better in my opinion. It grips better and can handle wet ground. The “car” tires look to me as though there may be issues down the road. I’m in NYC so I’ll be stopping by Mr C’s Cycle for all my tire gears and repairs if necessary.
The streets in NY are far from forgiving. All those potholes could be tough to deal with.
Open (knobby) tread has less traction in the rain and on other slick surfaces.
Deep mud is about the only environment where knobs are preferred.
It would be nice to test on a rain days...
How can I become a ebike reviewer?
Moral of the story, stay with what you have and stop worrying and spending stupid money.
Faster acceleration and better handling - slick tyres
But I have stock after three days in about 45 miles took in a large piece of glass and even though my tube sealed the tire looks terrible
It took me about 55 years to learn this. I'm a daily ebike elderly rider. My new ebike has 300 miles, and it shows no noticeable wear yet. Yes, I will be installing motorcycle tires. But I dont need them until this winter. The knobbies are better in the winter, and dirt desert roads.
@@shahan1465will it be easier to get flats with these type tires or will it have the normal chance of getting a flat tire?
Have I been pronouncing asphalt wrong all my life
Rolf
Hi, You wear glasses & have a Baid head so you must be very smart. Just messin with ya. I am convinced that dogs don't like the sound that knobby tires make. Been riding 60 years. Had to shoot a dog that was trying to hurt me. Looking for better street tires. Something that will last. BFT has held up well but noisy.
What is the top speed with the street tires? Do they handle better on the road?
