I work for Salt Lake Express for 9 yrs as a mechanic Service and maintenance on Mercedes-Benz sprinter and they reach pass 700k miles on original engine, burn little oil over times at high miles, best reliable van I ever seen Thank god the engine design still the same, I don’t like the look of the new transmission shifter at all
Get a transit. I just lost my ass on a conversion I did which was followed by a failed cp4 fuel pump which require the entire fuel system to be replaced. Over 16k. Traded it in.
I remember when we brought the Sprinter to the U.S. through Freightliner. Initially it was to meet a requirement from FedEx for a smaller van. FedEx’s commitment to purchase, maintain and support those initial units was instrumental to the initial success of the Sprinter. They were the pilot customer in the U.S. although they had operated them in Europe. The vision and commitment of Lynn Gorman, FedEx’s v.p. of ground equipment, was the key.
The V6 in sprinter is a pointless engine, always has been, Solely for North America market where big is best mentality. Modern efficiency rules large commercial diesels pointless. In Europe a Bmw 2.0 4 cylinder diesel produces between 190 to 240 bhp on a single or twin turbo 0 to 60 in 7.5 or 6.8 sec up to 140mph and 55mpg on highway. I remember a late 80s Chevy 350 v8 irocs z making less power, what a pile of shit they were , only car worse than them were the Russian Ladas.
And now Amazon Prime is buying them up. Our Sprinter dealership, right in the back yard of MB North Charleston, never has a large inventory of Sprinters. Either supply is low or just not a big demand for them here??
The limo company I work for has 2 Sprinters, a 2nd-gen and one of these new ones. The biggest change for me is the driver seat; the older one feels like it's tilted forward, and you can only raise the rear to make that problem even worse. Makes it easy to get in and out of, life if you're on a mail route, but it's pretty agonizing on an 8hr drive. The new one has more adjustment and is much better for it. General experience with both has been good; they're low-maintenance and use a TON less fuel than, say, a V10 E-450 it replaces. The Transit lacks the Mercedes badge for limo work. That wasn't a problem the Econoline had with the same badge, but hey, brand cachet never was rational in the first place. As a driver, the big thing I notice is the turbo lag on the 3.0 OM642 engine. Holy God. It makes a 250cc 2-stroke feel smooth and linear. The newer one has a power and torque display on the infotainment screen - when the turbo comes on it goes from 120lb-ft to 324 in about 1 second. If you're trying to make a tight left onto a busy street, you're going to be making an insurance claim. Zero to just 10mph takes like 5 seconds, just because it's so hopeless for those first 2,000 revs. One nice feature of the newer one is the 7-speed transmission instead of the old 5-speed. The 5-speed is smoother if we're honest, but the top gear is shorter than a Civic. We're talking 2,800rpm at 65mph, in an engine that redlines at 4k. Has to be that way to deal with the turbo. The 7-speed is turning more like 2,200, which is a much happier place for the engine and contributes to a very impressive increase in fuel economy, bolstered further by a larger fuel tank.
I drive a 2014 4cyl. Sprinter for work delivering products all over southern california...it has 322,000 miles on it...no rust. Gets an average of 24 mpg. I may be in the minority here but I love mine and will buy another when the time comes for it.
you are not in minority, I am driving my 8 yrs old Sprinter, 160 000 miles in So Cal as well, and only just recently had to replace all glow plugs. That's it. No other problems whatsoever. No rust. I have the 6 cylinder, so mileage is not that great, averaging 19 mpg but loaded with construction materials. Still better than Ford gasoline engine. I am anxiously waiting for this new one. I am first in line.
@@syn-techcooling7282 Oh okay because you say so. 🫵😹. It say freightliner sprinter. In 2007 they slapped a Mercedes, freightliner or Dodge on the same van that was made in Germany and reassembled in SC.
Can you please do a driving comparison on the top Vans such as sprinter, promaster, and the transit? How they drive and handle would be super appreciated!
Have you priced any other oil changes lately? Ford or GM diesel trucks? GM gas trucks? What are you expecting? 8.00 oil changes on a $40k (bare bones) diesel van? Plus you can go well over 10,000 miles
MrBertstare no but I can make up a ridiculous number to support my point though? It’s higher cost of parts and labor rates of MBz dealerships. So you’re saying cost per mile is equal with Ford? I’m sure that’s why all the initial Sprinter fleets have been replaced now that buyers have options. Google Sprinter emissions issues and you’ll figure out way.
no need to google, replaced my 2006 with 256k miles with a 2014 with 50k miles. Love my vans, loved my duramax trucks too but to get pissy about expensive oil changes on a diesel is ridiculous. All oil changes are expensive, new honda accord? almost a 100 bucks, chevy cruz, same, most new vehicles require a synthetic oil to maintain the powertrain warranty, most synthetic oil changes on passenger cars are creeping on a 100 bucks. As far as speaking with fleet guys its a love hate relationship with any of the eurostyle vans. We service all makes and models and its pretty even on the amount of bitching we hear on the transits and the sprinters. only one that out weighs them all is the promaster guys, still have yet to meet a pleased driver/owner/fleet manager.
Does anyone else prefer the days when a van was just a van, basic workhorses, basic mechanics, handles for winding down the windows and a price tag that meant that independent tradesmen didn't have to work like a dog to pay for it.
When an average midsized SUV costs about $33k, a big Mercedes cargo van that starts at around $35k isn't that expensive. Your mind must be still probably stuck in the 90s or 80s. Cars overall nowadays are actually not significantly expensive despite inflation. And if you want something cheaper, there's plenty of used ones between $20k and $30k.
Just bought a 2021 Midwest Automotive Designs Passage 170 which is sitting on a dually 2019 Sprinter 3500XD chassis. Excited take delivery tomorrow and get on the highway with it!
i drive one as delivery guy, super reliable but it is a 2006 model with over 900k km on the watch. Only real problem is the old handbrake...Would buy a new one directly
I loved my Sprinter Sportsmobile conversion....however Mercedes neglected to establish a world class network of in dependent sprinter DIESEL shops. That leaves a person to limp mode to the next MB dealer and a repair bill that gives a person nosebleed. Even though the Chevy Express is shoddy work it is easy to repair from Anchorage to Miami.
Love this videos guys! By far the most comprehensive reviews of trucks out there! Hey, could you please do a video on the towing capacity of vans? Maybe a comparison between the Sprinter and Promaster? Thanks.
The company I work for has a 2014 and a 2020. The new one legit gets AT LEAST 50% better range on a tank. The top gear is much much taller for one thing, and although I don't know the specs, I swear it's a bigger tank too. The '14 might do Portland to Bend and back, but only just. The new one will do Portland to Bend, plus a 6hr tour out there, and back with fuel to spare.
I will keep my 3500 Chevy Cab Chassis with the 6.6 liter diesel-powered v8. Has 16 ft. Van body. 8 speed transmission for my own livable rv and expediting van. Even has a locking rear differental.
The only reason I see companies paying the premium for a Sprinter is if they need a big van. Transit is a big van but the longest Transit is still almost 2 feet shorter than the the Sprinter. For most configurations a Transit is a no brainer, the base 3.7 has enough punch for say a high roof 2500 and you still have the diesel and the big 3.5 ecoboost. The highest configurable Transit falls several thousand short of a loaded Sprinter.
I drive the 2.0 Turbo gas 2500 for work. It’s seriously lacking in power. That’s why it has so many gears, to keep the engine in the powerband. Funny thing though, its computer keeps the RPMs around and below 2k rpm which makes it feel sluggish. I highly recommend driving with the paddle shifters. It gets agile around 2500rpm.
no thanks,, I am glad I sold mine at 146K km... let's talk about maintenance .. basic oil chance service B $850, service A $1500. glow plugs replacement $3000 every 2 years very likely occurs. brakes $1500 for per set. Oil heater cooler sealant problem $3000, for any other problems $180 per hour labor charge plus material. They will just rip off your pocket!
Kenan, wow! I am so happy I decided to check YT about these vans as I was considering replacing my beloved Ford E250 for one. Thank you for all those price quotes, I didn’t realize maintenance was that expensive on them. I will look for another E250 instead.
Considering the experience you stated are from Mercedes dealership services. They don't own much from the sales of the car but on services and maintenance you bring for them.
I am so looking forward to seeing a overall review on the gasoline powered version of the 2019 Sprinter. And I for one, appreciate that the shift lever was moved to the steering column as in this configuration it won't get in the way of my right knee! Nice Job.
Ray Jones I don’t like the new column shifter. Really loved its position on the first gen T1N. Put it in park yesterday rolling through an intersection trying to de-ice the windshield. 🤦♂️
Great review. I’ve been thinking about a Mercedes van ever since I saw them in China about 5 years ago. It seems like they’ve been updated quite a bit over the past few years. They have never been the cheapest option, probably more like the most expensive but from my point of view you get so much more for the money that you spend. I like it
In Europe, they need a narrow van due to their narrow streets, but in America we need a wider van. This will help with the over turning in a high cross wind situation. The cross wind stabilizer may flip the high top over on to it side easier. The high cost of repairs for Sprinters is a big draw back. There are more Ford dealers available for any repairs and it is cheaper in maintenance.
We want to know about the catastrophic rust problem. Has the rust problem been fixed? Are they still doing one coat of primer and one coat of paint? Are these going to rust like every other Sprinter?
I do own one of those really nice vehicle it really in high maintenance usually something wrong with dpf or EGR swells only dealer can fix or some shops who has license from Mercedes dealer it is a little bit costly
You never experienced crosswind assist. I can tell. If you would have - your voice would have sounded totally different and you would have elaborated on it ..... coming back to the chicago area from nebraska last month, i had the questionable joy to whitness it at work on black ice. Lets put it his way. Tons of people in the ditch and in the median on i 80 and i am here back at home. First time that that crosswind assist got to work in dry weather daylight as i was going from milwaukee to chicago and i was going 80 mhp i almost had a brown spot in my pants. As the crosswind assist applys the break on only one front wheel at 80 mph whithout any warning it is a feeling that definitly takes some gettine use to..... as other vehicles where blown 1 lane over on the interstate at the same time in the same place, MY SPRINTER NEVER LEFT MY LANE it drove perfectly stright ... all i can say - on a vehilcle that size and i have ling wb high roof it is a feature that i didnt ask for, that i didnt know about but apparently 2014 and newer all of them have that built in standard .... it is one of the greatest features i have ever experienced!!!
ZILA Exactly!! I’m glad you reminded me of that. The driving assistance tech in current gen sells it on the first test drive. Especially in 4x4 Passenger suspension config. Feels safer than anything else I’ve ever driven. Glad your Sprinter saved you, Z.
Cherry 99 all Sprinters in USA brown and hols between , super bad quality , I can give you proof with my lawyer if you like to pay me second time for the lemon low i did and got money )
I have a sprinter and I don`t haul anything:-) it`s so comfortable for camping or very long trips. beside that, there is no other 4x4 van on the market.
Don't buy a diesel there emissions system sucks. we had a def level fault come on and took it in to Mercedes and of course it was not just the def level indicator it was the whole def system needs to be replaced. and of course the extended warranty did not cover it because it is emissions and that is not covered. So over 6000.00 later they can fix it and give you a 90 day warranty , on there work. looking on the internet it seems there is a problem with this system, I have seen a lot of comments on it. Maybe the should move the plant back to Germany where the workers are proud of there product not just looking for a big union paycheck
Cristi m what the heck, are you Faulkner’s about, FYI the 4X4 in MB, is NOT MADE BY THEM,,it is an MB AUHORISED DEALER, BUT MB COVERS IT ,FYI,, THERE IS a QUIGLEY conversion available for 4X4 for THE FORD TRANSIT , so help smoking whatever is is you smoke ,, CHEERS from NJ
Marcel Deman Until Merc reinvents the whole system, you can’t rely on a new Sprint that hasn’t been kitted, unfortunately. But, thankfully~ there is a fix. Rawtek sells a DEF delete kit~ exhaust, resonators, etc. Bye, Bye DPF... But, yes- pre 2008 Gen1’s like my 2.7litre CDI with over 350k miles are sensational. The classic Sprinters are a marvel. Also, a heck of a lot quicker & with better economy than the new 2019 Diesel 4x4 170 that’s been in my driveway for a just a few days now. 😁 The new ones do, however, feel like a dream to drive. Damn, I love being in it. I love looking at it. But, you can’t do either when it’s in the shop, curtesy of the Gremlins installed free of charge right at the factory.
When a new car is bought, the front door is flooded, and the back door keeps ringing. After a week of maintenance, the back door still has a sound, and the driving heart has a shadow.
I've always liked these MB vans and Frightliner vans driving one for work if I owned a fleet I'd get a MB van there oil change intervals are some crazy 25k miles.
It's a shame that they left the cargo space unchanged. It really needed to be widened at least a few inches. I know they wanted to make it an easy transition for upfitters, but as someone who's planning on building an RV in one of these I think more width would have been nice. It's also very disappointing that they didn't increase power output at all. I mean, this engine has been in production for nearly 2 decades and they couldn't squeeze out any power bump? Seriously Mercedes?! Really, the only significant changes are the new infotainment system, enhanced active safety tech and the new cockpit layout. Finally, the price should have dropped WAY more than a few hundred bucks, considering Mercedes no longer has to pay the cost of shipping them in and the cost of manufacturing is significantly cheaper here than in Germany. Basically, they just massively increased their profit margin instead of passing some of their huge savings to US costumers. So the Sprinter was a nice van and it's still a nice van, but it's now even more overpriced.
That only the body is assembled in South Carolina with step by step instructions that come from Mercedes but the engines and transmissions are all made and assembled in Germany the only reason they’re doing this is to avoid tax
Ryan Ramos What you are referring to is called an SKD Plant (Semi-Knocked Down). They used to be one, but since the $500million expansion they are now a full assembly plant. Engines and Transmissions are rarely assembled in the same facility as the vehicle (unless you’re in a boutique vehicle like Zonda or Koenigsegg) as they are simple a part for the vehicle. Just ask the BMW Plant, and Volvo plants also located in SC 😁
They fully jacked up the front end of this new Sprinter, the headlights look way too small / narrow for that big front end. The previous gen looks way better and more to proportion....
+1. .. A comprehensive '20 Sprinter review. .. Any word on the fitment of rear axle Super Single tires? .. I'm told an MB Sprinter Super Single tire selection has been offered. .. Can't say I've heard much about this though . . . Mr. Andre, what say yous?
I've cursed my '16 from day one, for 3 years. 1st, don't assume Mercedes relates to good quality. The windshield will scratch just in cleaning as I have every vehicle for 50 years. The side glass will scratch on the inside raising and lowering and there are splotches I thought were a spray wax or the like, but will not come off with chemicals or light abrasives, I can only think they are in the glass. Complained about vibrations since new, service will not do anything, "it's operable so we can't". Have decided it is in the brake sensors as I understand they can be faulty anytime. The 'blu tec' electronics (Alpine I believe) are insane. Must do 3 steps to change any operation no matter how simple. Stored radio on the column is different than the dash., and so much more crap. If you drive western speed limits the fuel mileage is about 13.5 . Paint, it hardly qualifies and will chip even on the sides because of what I don't know. Push on a door with a thumb and you have a dent. And it is the loudest vehicle ever owned and I drove a ford for many years, which I wish I had kept. I bought this to convert for travel and so I could stand in it. If I had not immediately spent a bunch on converting, it would have been gone long ago. Offered a discount on another new vehicle. Won't happen, never Mercedes again. Cheapened in all the wrong places.
I bought the big sprinter LWB THE WORST MISTAKE I have ever made in my life The 4x4 system broke down And Mercades Will not fix it The Mercedes main dealership Even made it worse after they tried to fix it Please all stick With the 2 wheel drive options And hopefully not a Mercedes
All sprinter with wider rear track than front track bodyworks : the lowest traction 0.7g, extreme tail flick, extreme slide, over 100 l/100km on path curve road, changing lane roads, all turning path roads. From Mercedes Benz sprinter database
Excellent review, straight to the point. Regarding the vehicle itself, I'm concerned about the power of the smaller engine versions of the passenger vans. I'm thinking of starting a business where I would be traveling and transporting about 12 passengers and I'm concerned about power. I know turbocharged engines deliver more power, but they also run very hot with possible engine and turbocharge issues. Any thoughts?
I used dually pickup trucks for years to pull cattle trailers, then in the 90's I noticed you could buy a one ton pickup truck with single rear tires, so I thought why pay for two more tires if I didn't need them, so I bought one. I immediately found out that four tires on the rear of a truck makes a huge difference with a heavy load, I didn't have that single tire one ton very long before going back to dually's
Just a few of questions to this presenter... Will all new sprinters be made in the US or just the left hand drive US versions ? Is the US just assembling the parts or actually making panels from scratch ? In other words - will your US versions be rust buckets like ours ? I'm being honest and genuine - I own a sprinter and am a fan but I do hate the fact that on the whole Mercedes couldn't give two shits about their rust issues. I'd really like to invest in a large 4x4 version but there's no way I'd shell out 55k for a van that rusts within 5yrs, I want my van body to last as long as the engine. Another question - you mention a petrol / gasoline 2ltr version - what's the mpg of this and the diesel ?
Great review. I loved the pictures flying though all the interior features, A picture is worth a thousand words, as they say. I hope you can get one of these back to Colorado for a fuel economy test and "Ike Gauntlet" like you guys do with the pickups.
Any chance you can help me get my hands on a used sprinter? I’m in lexington and I am planning on purchasing one this week. I have a guy at ford trying to help me, but I just saw this amazing video!
What about fuel? Mercedes says do not use greater than B5 diesel. You could have warranty issues using diesel B5-B20 which is at the pumps in the Midwest. Their emergency breakdown response is terrible. They do not have enough shops that do work on Sprinters. Just got rid of 2016 Sprinter chassis motorhome with 3000 Miles. But I guess if you breakdown you have a bunch of features you can play around with while your waiting for help!
How does Mercedes-Benz sell these vans in states such as Minnesota, where the state's biodiesel fuel requirements automatically void the engine warranty?
Gregory K That state is the aHORSES ASS, WHY ? Bio does NOT WORK BELOW 10^F, & I forgot what year when they started, but EVERY MUNICIPAL VEHICLE BROKE DOWN, he’ll even REAL DIESEL TRUCKS were having problems, also. You can change STUPID, ,,,, Cheers from NJ
How has the poor paint quality and rust problems been resolved ? I've owned two Mercedes Benz Sprinter's and those two problems were VERY bad. Also dealers are very limited. I live in Upstate New York and we only have one dealer in the area and others are more than 50 miles away. Many electrical problems as well. Have these problems been resolved as well ?
I'm really happy these vans (sprinter, transit, promaster )are taking over. I think there is alot of ignorance about these vans. I won't be able to change there minds so I'll let sales speak for themselves. ☺️
If the Promaster is anything like the original Fiat Ducato/ Citroen Jumper / Peugeot Boxer, I'd stay far away from it if electrical problems is not your favorite thing. They are plagued with all sorts of mysterious gremlins especially when the outside temp is hovering around 0°C.
@@user-bo8yt4uc8b my employer just ordered a high roof promaster so we shall see. It's a super versatile chassis. They are also assembled in Mexico along the side of most of the ram truck line.
I bought 2019 Sprinter 2500, diesel engine, long wheel base and I did only 9168 miles and transmission is broken, waiting 30 days on new transmission from Germany
Great you sold me! Is there a way to order one without getting a dealership involved? I've made up my mind but I don't want to give away a bunch of cash unnecessarily.
I’ve always loved the sprinter but I’ve never been a huge fan of the Ford Transit, I do like the connect though. I for some reason prefer the Express and Savana from GM. I drove the Savana and have ridden in the others and the GM vans are old school but really aren’t that bad to drive.
Ford Transit was build in Europe for European. It s modelled on european van concept. So in reality it s very close to Mercedes Transit. Same with Dodge ProMAster.
In my city, the best Sprinter maintenance is a couple Ukrainian guys who literally don't speak any English, but they charge half of what Mercedes does, do it in 1/10th the time, and we've never ever had to take something back. Mercedes shops and dealerships in the US absolutely hate Sprinters because everything about them is so different to the dentist's cars they normally work on. They're not equipped to deal with fleets so they treat commercial customers just like the GLA-class owner. "We'll have that done by early October. Here's a base CLA loaner, surely that will be adequate to replace your Sprinter in the meantime. What do you mean $400 is too much for an oil change? Can't you see how fashionable our lobby is?" If it weren't for Viktor and his guys, we probably couldn't use Sprinters for business in this city.
Nice rundown! But getting a Transit fixed will always be far cheaper than getting a Sprinter fixed. In a fleet of vehicles, those costs really add up. Until Mercedes does something about that, Sprinter will always be an also ran.
This is the worst vehicle I have ever unfortunately had to deal with on a professional level. the Mercedes sprinter is very expensive to maintain the average diesel in America only cost $0.01 to maintain per mile the Mercedes sprinter cost as much as ten cents per mile just to maintain the bluetec system. Average cost to replace is $7,500 up to 10,000 I cannot see how this system could possibly cost much to replace. Wake up people don't let Mercedes tell you there's nothing better. All these people who are in these videos are being endorsed by. if they say they are not being indoors they are getting something from Mercedes in return for their positive review.
I really like the sprinter van this was a great video the only thing that I would like to see is more towing capacity with the Mercedes and preferably an exhaust break for when you're up in the mountains
Thank you for the video,I’m planing to purchase a Mercedes sprinter 319 CDI 4x4 V6 3000cc 2012 what do you about this Van is it reliable ?? Thank you in advance.
These things are absolutely all over the place, where I live. Lots of companies small and big are employing them, and there are even people living in them. Frankly, it's quite annoying... but, I can't deny how cool these things are.
Reviews like this one is why I enjoy TFL so much. I say more Andre and less Sarah. If I wanted to "car chicks" I'd go to a Hot Import Nights show again.
Wait, what's with the Freightliner vans? Are they also going to sell them as Freightliner too? I thought they were keeping the brand for the heavier vehicles.
On a budget I think the RAM Promaster is the better deal here. Especially with their existing available rebates. I would love to have a nicely equipped Sprinter van though. Good report. Just wished you gave the RAM equal spotlight as the Ford when discussing cost.
Well, since the Transit is the market leader, it makes sense to primarily compare it to that. The Ducato / Promaster with front wheel drive is kind of boring to me as well. I don't even like how it looks.
$70,000 in Canada... Ford is killing this van up here you can get a 1-year-old transit for %50 less than this without all the rust issues for the sprinter, and if you've ever driven the eco boost transit it is a rocket and fun to drive.
I would have liked to have the Merc badge lopsided, or sliced. I've hit mine multiple times, I came from Ford Econoline series and it's a great replacement overall.
The new gas engine might be the change they needed. The tiny diesel engines with their fuel system problems were expensive to repair. The whole Mercedes line is expensive to repair. When the dollar rises in value they raise their repair costs. When the dollar drops again their prices do not follow that trend. Mercedes gets you one way or another.
I like the new interior, much better than the previous version. However, the new front looks old, reminds me of a Volkswagen. Ford did the same thing with the new rear drive Explorer.
I work for Salt Lake Express for 9 yrs as a mechanic
Service and maintenance on Mercedes-Benz sprinter and they reach pass 700k miles on original engine, burn little oil over times at high miles, best reliable van I ever seen
Thank god the engine design still the same, I don’t like the look of the new transmission shifter at all
There is a lot to be desired in the interior cabin design. It is very American looking in design. Not attractive. You cannot out lipstick in a pig.
I would love to buy one and convert it into a tiny house for when going on vacation!
Lets get you a new Sprinter van! Come see me VAN BAE :)
Get a transit. I just lost my ass on a conversion I did which was followed by a failed cp4 fuel pump which require the entire fuel system to be replaced. Over 16k. Traded it in.
The rain makes the Merc look even more beautiful. My buddy has a 4matic assembled in America- goes like a rocket. Love it.
The vision and commitment of Lynn Gorman, FedEx’s v.p. of ground equipment, was the key.
are they still using Sprinters?
MetaView7 I still see them
Yes with the 4 cyl diesel..ONLY because of MPG reliability is second when you run the miles we do.
That's neat! I didn't even know that Mercedes had a plant near Charleston! Love the features also. Great review Andre!
benz, bmw and now volvo. benz also has a place in bama
I'm sure they have some repair shops there too
So is volvo and bmw is in spartinburg
I just drove a brand new sprinter 1200 kms this weekend. Best van ever
I have a 2007 freightliner diesel 190k miles and have had very few issues. Gets 18 mpg@73mph.
Thinking they don’t use much road salt in SoCal.....they that in Michigan...
@@scottdavis5749 That's not a Sprinter, so your not in the conversation.
Has any one else noticed this "van life" trend the last year or 2? It's..... interesting. They love these Sprinter vans.
@@sgbradley way b4 the "glampers"!
Yeah, they’re really easy to drive and get great mpg when they work. Too many emissions issues and oil changes are $200
Have you priced any other oil changes lately?
Then industries wanted more money, my 1988 car has everything i need minus cupholders
Chevy Express is still in production
No I don't miss those days. Those old trash vans were a dog to drive. Give me a Sprinter any day!
No
Just bought a 2021 Midwest Automotive Designs Passage 170 which is sitting on a dually 2019 Sprinter 3500XD chassis. Excited take delivery tomorrow and get on the highway with it!
i drive one as delivery guy, super reliable but it is a 2006 model with over 900k km on the watch. Only real problem is the old handbrake...Would buy a new one directly
I have a 2006 "Freightliner" Sprinter Gulfstream RV. It looks dated but what a quality driving experience the sprinter is.
I have a 2006 sprinter with 372000
Miles runs and drives perfect, needs just cosmetic attention.
It's my full time home I love it.
# Vanlife
I loved my Sprinter Sportsmobile conversion....however Mercedes neglected to establish a world class network of in dependent sprinter DIESEL shops. That leaves a person to limp mode to the next MB dealer and a repair bill that gives a person nosebleed. Even though the Chevy Express is shoddy work it is easy to repair from Anchorage to Miami.
Jot Singh oh, Limp mode... hello darkness, my old friend.
No doubt! Buy an obd2 reader and clear them to get the stupid things to the shop
Love this videos guys! By far the most comprehensive reviews of trucks out there! Hey, could you please do a video on the towing capacity of vans? Maybe a comparison between the Sprinter and Promaster? Thanks.
Im not a van guy but i enjoyed this video
Would really like to know if Mercedes increased the fuel tank size for 2019? 26 gallons is too small especially in an RV built on the Sprinter Chasis
Not for 2020 or 2021, but it's extremely fuel efficient! Lets get you a new Sprinter van! Come see me VAN BAE :)
Well, lets get the 4matic up GoldMine
Lets get you a new Sprinter van! Come see me VAN BAE :)
Eco is a gas hog
But the transit is just plain garbage. I drove tested all the full size van and it's no brainier the Sprinter is twice the van
It gets agile around 2500rpm.
no thanks,, I am glad I sold mine at 146K km... let's talk about maintenance .. basic oil
chance service B $850, service A $1500. glow plugs replacement $3000 every 2 years very likely occurs. brakes $1500 for per set. Oil heater cooler sealant problem $3000, for any other problems $180 per hour labor charge plus material. They will just rip off your pocket!
Kenan Kilic then change it yourself its cheaper
Kenan Kilic and the closet dealership is 6 hr away.
Can't you just fix it yourself if you're mechanically inclined?
I bought one from KEYS Mercedes in van nuys CA Not such a good purchase and my FORD breaks down far less I wouldnt buy one again
You guys put out the best reviews.
In Europe the Van is King! In the USA the pick up truck rules the road.
These days there’s more and more vans
Love to see the mpg loop with high roof versions of both the 144" and 170" wheelbases.
Lets get you a new Sprinter van! Come see me VAN BAE :)
I like it
They're actually the same price as a transit.
Buy a ford
In Europe, they need a narrow van due to their narrow streets, but in America we need a wider van. This will help with the over turning in a high cross wind situation. The cross wind stabilizer may flip the high top over on to it side easier.
The high cost of repairs for Sprinters is a big draw back. There are more Ford dealers available for any repairs and it is cheaper in maintenance.
We want to know about the catastrophic rust problem. Has the rust problem been fixed? Are they still doing one coat of primer and one coat of paint? Are these going to rust like every other Sprinter?
ArcolaBridge everyone Of them that I see here in New England is a complete rust bucket!
@@joshthomas8986 same in Minnesota
read or heard (maybe even on this channel) they moved to a galvanized body?
@@MrBertstare that would be slightly better! But where's the proof.
Well they said everything behind the B pillar is the same so I'm guessing they didn't change.... lol
I do own one of those really nice vehicle it really in high maintenance usually something wrong with dpf or EGR swells only dealer can fix or some shops who has license from Mercedes dealer it is a little bit costly
corrosion warranty. is the body going to rust like the last 12yrs.
ernestjbmwrider1200
Fixed now is the claim.
Still junk
Why o why is there no crew cab for the chassis cab, like they have in Europe.
Stephen fielden Because it's America and Mercedes wants you to buy two,
Have they kept the industry leading fastest rusting body panels?
All those vans you just saw we're sadly vacuumed up And sent the landfill after the taping.
Yes! In terms of corrosion these vehicles are probably the worst on the road.
Imagine carbon fiber sprinters! But alas...they'd still find a way to rust.
I heard all of the rust problems was caused from shipping overseas. American produced should remedy that issue.
evilcnil they rusted here in Europe as well without any overseas trips.
ZILA
Exactly!! I’m glad you reminded me of that. The driving assistance tech in current gen sells it on the first test drive. Especially in 4x4 Passenger suspension config. Feels safer than anything else I’ve ever driven.
Glad your Sprinter saved you, Z.

Cristi m what the heck, are you Faulkner’s about, FYI the 4X4 in MB, is NOT MADE BY THEM,,it is an MB AUHORISED DEALER, BUT MB COVERS IT ,FYI,, THERE IS a QUIGLEY conversion available for
4X4 for THE FORD TRANSIT , so help smoking whatever is is you smoke ,, CHEERS from NJ

Until Merc reinvents the whole system, you can’t rely on a new Sprint that hasn’t been kitted, unfortunately.
They are truly amazing quality vehicles
20 k… but after 100k mechanics say to cut that back to 8-10.
at 14:02 seems like a walk through area between seats,, but other views seems like a full front seat... is the middle area removable? thanx.
This... is just a dream van! 🤤
D LG
In reality money only flows uphill to execs and shareholders.
Sad but true
I would like to ask, why hasn’t GM got into this market in the US?
38 seconds in, WHY must you post background music? It make it harder to hear the dialog! Otherwise looking forward to the video.
Not sure about US, but here in Canada most of Sprinters get rusty extremely quickly.

Paul Wicklund There may be a lot of “discounted” sprinters after the hurricane...watch out.
LMAO 👍
not as cheap as a the katrina floaters, though
How do you keep these units out of the dealership shop? Too many brake failures, engine sensor, and turbo issues too soon.
Great stuff, thanks for covering a wide range of trucks and work vehicles. PS Andre, dinner was 10 miles away, maybe next time :)
I bought the big sprinter LWB

Especially with cross winds on the highway.
Alfred H not could, will
Well Done Andre! Camera work was excellent as well.
Does the Sprinter have "trailer-assist"??
You may sse more Sprinters on the road if now they are made in the US no waiting see many on lots

What I want to know is when will the RV outfitters be getting these?
I’ve always loved the sprinter but I’ve never been a huge fan of the Ford Transit, I do like the connect though. I for some reason prefer the Express and Savana from GM. I drove the Savana and have ridden in the others and the GM vans are old school but really aren’t that bad to drive.
Ford Transit was build in Europe for European. It s modelled on european van concept. So in reality it s very close to Mercedes Transit. Same with Dodge ProMAster.
Looked at them. Nice features, but expensive to buy, expensive to maintain.
Do you guys have a video like this for the Ford transit?
Nice rundown! But getting a Transit fixed will always be far cheaper than getting a Sprinter fixed. In a fleet of vehicles, those costs really add up. Until Mercedes does something about that, Sprinter will always be an also ran.
Yep, when the cp4 fuel pump fails in a sprinter it’s over 16k to repair them. Speaking from experience.
Can you get 2.0L turbo with 4wheel drive in Canada?
This is the worst vehicle I have ever unfortunately had to deal with on a professional level.
the Mercedes sprinter is very expensive to maintain the average diesel in America only cost $0.01 to maintain per mile the Mercedes sprinter cost as much as ten cents per mile just to maintain the bluetec system.
Average cost to replace is $7,500 up to 10,000
I cannot see how this system could possibly cost much to replace.
Awesome can’t wait to see it person. I wonder if the 4x4 action comes with F&R locking diffs?
Any video of the lane keep assist? How is it? Will it lane center?
It's a shame they don't seem to come in the super high spec, just normal and high-ish, if I understand the video correctly?

Why did you leave out the new sub cargo called the worker? Msrp $30k
Bring back the 2.1 liter 4cyl turbo diesel please.

Nice video. I prefer the Ford due to lower cost or service and repairs. Ford has approx. 13,000 dealers in the USA, MB approx. 320.
Can you guys use international unit rather than the typical american units
Wait, what's with the Freightliner vans? Are they also going to sell them as Freightliner too? I thought they were keeping the brand for the heavier vehicles.
Yes, they are. They've been selling them as Freightliners since 2003.
The addition of USB C outlets and removal of smokers package should be different from 2018
Did you ever test a 2019 with the gas engine?
On a budget I think the RAM Promaster is the better deal here. Especially with their existing available rebates. I would love to have a nicely equipped Sprinter van though. Good report. Just wished you gave the RAM equal spotlight as the Ford when discussing cost.
BTW I "liked" your review. I'm not one of thumbs down voters.
Well, since the Transit is the market leader, it makes sense to primarily compare it to that. The Ducato / Promaster with front wheel drive is kind of boring to me as well. I don't even like how it looks.
@@cr0ft-2k Fair enough. I can see your point.
If you buy one of these vans, good luck on finding a dealer who'll work on it.
All of my local MB dealers will work on them
Ford has approx. 13,000 dealers, MB approx 320.
MB Sprinter Private Jet Van for sure
I like the new interior, much better than the previous version. However, the new front looks old, reminds me of a Volkswagen. Ford did the same thing with the new rear drive Explorer.
