- This concert in the Capitol Theatre, New Jersey came shortly after the album Into The Music was released. The set has most of tracks from the album plus a number of Van's biggest hits up to that point including Moondance and Gloria.
Katie Kissoon on backing vocals and Tony Marcus on violin bring a warm tone to the band who are as tight as ever. This restrained video in moody black and white has some strange lighting changes but the music is top notch. The full concert is recorded apart from the front of Moonshine Whiskey which is inexplicably missing.
Filmed on Saturday October 6th 1979.
Original Video Production team is unknown.
This concert was just after the release of my favorite Van Morrison album, "Into the Music." I've seen Van three times much later, but regretted not seeing him when he was touring with his backup band with horns for this album. What a gift to be able to watch this video of a joyous performance of pure, authentic music-making by Van and his band.
I was there. It was the best live performance I have ever seen.
Wow! Lucky you!
This is absolutely amazing. Van has kept me going through many a day, and his music has made me feel fulfilled like no other. This was the Van I first got into when I was 16. Wonderful memories and nostalgia. Thank you!
I’m glad you enjoyed it. I think he has still got it too!
@@chewvalleyfilms2020 Agreed. He keeps evolving through his brilliance.
Nice. Just don't try telling him 😂
I was also 16 when a heart him for the first time. It was a music special about him on the Dutch radio. I remember Cleaning Windows. He sound different then the rest. A little bit rough with bumps. I took me sometime to really become common with it. But from the first moment it attrackted me very much.
Katie Kissoon after 50 minutes breath-taking. Van brings the best in people too the front
I was 16 years old and was there!!! My mother was a Morrison super fan, even back then and I remember her dragging me to the concert because my father was not interested in going. It was a fantastic concert!!!! We drove back to NYC that night saying my dad missed a great concert.
Hi Vinnie
What a great memory, I'm glad I could help you relive it. My wife can't stand his voice, to me it's the most amazing instrument. Van certainly can divide people!
cannot stop watching and listening to this. Such great versions of so many great songs. To have Pete Wingfield, PeeWee, Platania, and Kissoon all together makes this even rarer video/recording of full concert. So so great!
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
A young Katie Kissoon - I didn't recognise her.
Pee Wee Ellis was such a great addition to Van’s ultra soul sound. I’ve always felt like Van was the closest thing to a white James Brown so it felt like a perfect fit for Pee Wee.
Rave on Van. G.O.A.T. The greatest of the Greats. ❤
YEAH VAN YOU ARE THE LEGENDS WITH YOUR BAND AND SINGERS I WISH YOU MANY MORE CREATIVE YEARS BRAVO
I used to skip into Caledonia records in fairfax in the 70's. I bought a record a week. I took care of a lady in town i lived in w her. Your Mom got to know my taste and would have suggestions for me. Her brogue was close to my moms who was from edinburgh. Your pops would be busy. Both of them busy. 1 was 17. Im 65 now. Still have all those records and i used to see you at lions share. We were all so rich then. God loves ❤you n i do to. Thanks for all the comfort company your music provided the whole of my life.
Great memories. Thanks for sharing.
For me buying records in the '70s, it was mostly Sam Goody's in NYC and Green Dragon Records in Woodstock, NY. 66 in Chico now. We must keep spinning and listening to our records!
(and enjoy all the opportunities brought to us by RUclips to listen to and see extraordinary concerts like this! -- e.g. see BBC's Annie Lennox "Live at Montreux 1992")
This is one of the best Van Morrison concerts I have seen. Really good and only 25,000 views. People don't know what they are missing.
Love this concert. I keep going back to it. VAN at his best! Wish I was there.
I was backstage for this one!!! Van was in peak form on this one
Thank goodness for You Tube. Thank God for Van.

YEAH VAN YOU YOUR BAND AND THE SINGERS ARE THE BEST REAL LEGENDS I LIKE TO LISTEN TO YOU
Love everyone performing. They brighten my day. ❤
Absolute Prime Van and Caledonia Soul Orchestra!
My belief in the Master Van has been waning of late. Faith restored with this showing, next stop: Ireland 1980!
must be kidding, waning? you are reading propaganda , he is better now than ever, have you seen him lately?
@@patmurphy6843 seen him
In Derry
About five years back. His voice is great but
At 78
You can’t expect him to put together a proper band. Too stale for my liking. The records too are nothing special but I’m always willing to give the man a pass 👌🏿
nahh, now he has a better band and a musical director, big diff, much better@@BelfastBoxingNBlues
@@BelfastBoxingNBlues His bands are always top class. He's a perfectionist.
@@allanbriggs9007 seen him most recently at the Ulster Hall, John McCullough on keys is a master. What he’s missing is a hot horn section. And some fresh arrangements, let ‘em know he’s still got that.
This is the very BEST version of Bright Side of the Road!!! 💃💚💚💚
Awesome...the Capitol Theatre. Grew up in Clifton, NJ right off Rt.3. Cannot count how many times we gave carloads of concert goers directions to the Capitol . Turn around...13 lights, turn left, four lights and turn right. Enjoy the show.
Many thanks
Thanks for posting this.
So, yo-yo, a fan on a string, spinning, grinning, digging all Van's years of Musical Kingdom!
I was there. Great show.😊
❤
For fans of Katy Kissoon this is a nice show too :)
Search for Wavelength 1979!
Suzanne love your day, miss you this day, did not get to Paris, but what a pair Us!
I saw this show at the Palladium in Hollywood, Ca.
It is staggering how much of an improvement can be made to music by the addition of a black female session singer .
Who was she - great voice.
Of course - A young Katie Kissoon
@@allanbriggs9007 thanks. I thought so but was not brave enough to say it. Saw her sing with Clapton, wonderful singer.
@@boogieeck Backing singers do not get the credit they deserve. Clapton (and I am a great fan) is one who needed strong backing vocals.
Two even better
Went to the Cap many times, especially for the midnite shows!
Katie Kassoon. Still with Van in concert!!!!
This was in 1979.
Genius!!!
dont need to preach to the converted, but for the newby whose been listening to the almost ordinary start of this concert and dont quet get him, hear the genius build up ... "angelou"...from 37:10
that quality vocal performance live with that backing band, so powerful in so many ways. That performance alone proves what an absolutely incredible vocalist he is. so so good.
G L O R I A
Van the Man!!! Who is the female backup singer? Awesome.
Katie Kissoon.
Scat man Van the man💯1️⃣
Ed Shearing could play Van, if they ever make a movie about Ivan Morrison !
Could Ed Sheeran play grumpy young Van? I’d like to see that!!
