Van is an extremely unhelpful interview, but this interviewer does as well as you can do. And the intercutting of performances is great and drives home the things she asks him to discuss. Great job.
It's a joy to hear Van explain his background and process. To me, he reinvented soul music by adding the poetic influence in his lyrics. Just as Dylan reinvented folk by introducing poetic influences into his lyrics, Van took soul music in a more expansive direction. It is easy to see how these masters made their way, but the incredible path Van took was boldly workmanlike and yet so unparalleled. The way he turned his concerts into spiritual events was a form of alchemy. As Ray Charles brought Gospel influence to R 'n B and soul, Van brought a Celtic ceremonial vibe to his live shows. He made it just seem like a vocation, but few performers took live shows to the magical places he did.
Van and the interviewer, Michelle Rocca, were married at the time. May explain why it was one of the better interviews...she knew what he'd want to talk about.
And most under appreciated without a doubt. Van walked away from fame at a young age. Decided he could live with being a first class musician. But never wanted to be a star so he gave the vultures and grifters in the industry the finger and did it his way. Sinatra would be impressed.
This is a very good interview; the lady is great at asking good sensible questions and Van looks relaxed. I would not want Van to be any different, why the heck should he explain, his work has got a brilliance about it, you can make up your own stories to go with those songs, and sometimes they will be better than what the writer will tell you. The people of this world are very lucky to have the likes of Van Morrison, Bob Dylan kicking around, writing, recording and still playing gigs/concerts to this day
❤ Van Morrison he is absolutely the best singer song writer in 5- decades 🌹
You got that right...

Van the Man, ever reinventing himself
It was one of the better interviews that I've heard with Van. I'm glad they interjected the music throughout the interview.

@Elisa-im6ll You should listen more carefully to his album Desire 🙏
Does anyone know where to find the video with the poem about Cyprus Avenue?
