There are lots of different ways to style wigs but this is just how I do it. :) I will say You probably don't need a steamer for a lot of things if you are trying to save money. @MollieznLolliez thanks! The character in question is Ruby Gillman. How do you section off each group of hair/spikey bit? Like do you divide the hair into pie slices, or do you have to do the upper and lower layers separately?

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  Год назад +1

      @TheRogueCommand keep referring back to a photo. I section it off according to a photo. All at once. Then you can crimp/backcomb the section from there. :)

    • @TheRogueCommand
      @TheRogueCommand Год назад +1

      @MollieznLolliez once its sectioned off, do you only keep it bound at the tips, or along the whole thing if its a longer wig?

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  Год назад +2

      @TheRogueCommand ohh I see. For longer wigs you can tie top and bottom. More near the top as if you can only tie in one area. As when you brush future parts on it if you only have bottom tied it can caused the wig to get tangled. If super long (I did for my raiden) I think I tided 3 times each strand.

    I appreciate you going from start to end of the tutorial, i dont see many eesteam with the fabric steam to get specific volume but i may try that as i started my first wig last weekend and am going back and trying to continue where i left off

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  8 месяцев назад

      The fabric steam can just help reform any stubborn bits of hair which are comming out at the wrong angle. It's not so much volume. It's a crimper that does that.
      It can also be good nearer the end to steam where you have sprayed with got2b as for some reason I find it helps to solidify it.

    • @ViktorErikFade
      @ViktorErikFade 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@MollieznLolliez well watching your video made me realize as a newbie to this too that I don't have to rigidly follow a guide
      I re-steamed a bit I kind of messed up and went back and restyled it and now it looks so good (so far that is).
      I'm combining crimping and teasing
      Just whatever works or makes the most sense to me within reason.
      I added volume in the beginning with the fabric steamer by turning the wig upside down and steaming it, let it dry, then styled, I heard it helps with volume

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  8 месяцев назад +1

      @ViktorErikFade ohh that could help yes! And no you don't have too follow a guide. There are many techniques out there that can work and help! The only thing I have learn is thar I'd advise not crimping on a peice of hair which is already sprayed with lots of got to be hair spray. As it makes it a bit weird. But other than that any order works. Have fun experimenting and learning :)

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  8 месяцев назад +1

    • @MollieznLolliez

      Hey! I use a hotter setting but have power/pressure down on my hair dryer. To help dry without fully pushing out of place. Crimping came make it a bit dryer, but really helped with holding it style I find. If it's too frizzy you can straight the top layer to make it look neater, but want to keep some of that crimp in. If you find it too dry maybe turn crimper down next time. Sometimes for some of the frizz bits I do give a little trim at the end. Feel free to ask any questions. :)

    Whats difference of hair steamer and dryer?

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  6 месяцев назад

      A steam helps reform the fibres of the wig. So it a peice or hair is naturally going one way. You can use a steaming to make it go another way normally. Where as a hair dryer Is brilliant for drying a hair peice in place after using styling spray. (A steamer would make it wet and not let the stlying spray work).

    What heat is the Straightener? How can I be sure the the wig doesnt melt xD

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  7 месяцев назад +1

      My straightner doesn't have a tempature on it. But I use 220c on a crimper I have. And it's fine. But it is a great quality wig.
      Allways test on a piece of your wig that you can't see - bottom where neck is. Then, if it melts it, then don't use it on the rest of the wig.
      Most wigs won't melt (don't spray than heat as it will burn the recently sprayed product on it). That's why I crimp/straighten the spray.
      Hope this helps

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  4 месяца назад

      I'd say a steam is the least important part. Basically what a steam does is help to reshape the fibers. So if you have a peice which doesn't naturally sit/fall in the way you want it, if you steam ig and hold it how you want it. It will make it so it then falls how you want it. Heats fibers up then cools in position you want it. Nothing to do with drying. I also found after sparring got2b hair spray it can help solidify the spikes. :) hope this helps.

    • @MollieznLolliez

      @parad0x.76 no worries. Yes you can, hence I said it's the least important component and not fully needed. Thanks for the tutorial! This might be a stupid question, however I was wondering if a flat iron would also work to crimp the wig? I sadly don’t own a crimping iron so using a flat iron would be my only option. :/

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  Год назад +1

      No such thing as a stupid question. A straighter won't do the same thing as a crimp. Infact it does the opposite. If you have a crimped wig and want to undo it you straighten it.
      My crimp cost around 12 pounds from amazon. Its only cheap but does the job.
      You also don't have to crimp a wig but I does help with styling and volume.

    Could you explain the difference between crimping and teasing? I can tease the wig so I'm not sure if I should invest in a crimper
    (opened ended question anyone please answer 😭😭)

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hello! Sorry just seen this. Teasing can really help fluff up a wig. And I think can look more natural. But personally I find it doesn't hold as well. If you crimp a wig I find it alot easier to style. Crimping generates friction between the hair. And I beleive can add more volume. I've never been that good at teasing though.
      It's all down to personal preference. There's no right or wrong. The Downside to Crimping is that it takes longer to do and can leave marks. But if you have the money to spare I'd definatly say its worth trying.
      For any bits you really want to stand up I'd still recommend teasing the bottom a bit to help.
      Hope this helps a bit

      A straightener has the opposite effect of a crimper (crimpers can be found on amazon or in any store with hair electronics - can get for like 13 pounds). So wouldn't do the same job. You can style a wig without crimping but I have found it doesn't last as long. :)

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  Год назад +1

      You don't need a steamer. Id say that is the one tool you don't need. It can just help reform the fibres. Just try and go over with hair dryer. The heat from the steam is what helps to reposition the fibres and its just more gentle than a hair dryer, as well as help bits stick together but just keep doing over the spikes with hairspray and hairdryer and you should be good. :) really glad the tutorial helped

    When you use a crimper, do you have to use a specific temperature?

    • @MollieznLolliez
      @MollieznLolliez  Год назад

      My crimper is only a cheap one from amazon, so I cant actually change or adjust the heat. It only has one setting. I have attached the link of one i have in description. May tell you what heat it is(i know its quite hot as i have accidently burn myself a little, so its not low - pls check if your wigs are heat proof, most cosplay wigd are :) ). But id advice getting or having a bigger crimper, mines so small and takes so long xD.
      If you worried about the heat, test it on a bit of the wig which isnt visible. I would say make sure not to spray it before crimping (if its wet whildt crimping it can affect the wig).
