      so much of modern cosplay tricks is just people re-discovering what furries and homestucks did 10 years ago, tragic that the knowledge wasn't better preserved or shared across fandoms. That said, there are def some awesome techniques that weren't available to us back in the day, i look forward to having a chance to start cosplaying again

    As someone who is making hats using Fosshape (the thicker stuff is a B*tch to sew through), you may want to try butting the edges against each other and zig zagging your seams, then heat set it as it will glue itself to itself with heat, and you won't have bumps dealing with the seam allowance where you might not want it.

    I don't know if this would work for cosplay but there is something in the BJD & Doll repainting communities that might be helpful since it involves synthetic hair/fibers for wigs and glue. BUT; if you have a bunch of loose fiber that you need to make into wefts you can get those page protector sheets people use in school, and glue a roughly shaped line of the fiber using tacky glue on there from like about 1/4th of an inch from the top of the fiber down. Let it dry completely and then trim a straight line where the glued edge is to even it out and bam! You have a weft of hair uniformly lined up and the weft itself is almost invisible. It might help when you have to glue those small bits of fiber in the back of the wig and save you some time from having to trim the fibers.
    I'm so tempted to try the fosshape base since I've been wanting to do a 2016 magical mirai miku cosplay for years but pigtail wigs that are super thick and heavy are far from my current comfort level. Great video and thank you so, so much for all of these tips!

      @tumblingstarmoonchild Месяц назад +11

      That's what I was thinking the whole time she was doing the part for the pigtails-I forget that doll customizing isn't all that common a hobby, and that people don't know about it! I hope your comment gets popular enough that she sees it and can try it out next time!!

  • @vivishii_
    @vivishii_ 2 месяца назад +33

    i dont know if this would help at all, but since you commented about the hair being in a weft helping, here we go!!!
    I see wig makers usually make their own wefts by just.... gluing the hell out of one side of the hair before starting?? like if you've ever seen doll customizers make doll wigs, they lay down the hairs on plastic, then use a brush to glue down an end, and then trim it to make it prettier. it might also help with the parts and stuff!!!
    idk if it would work with how you've been making your wigs, but it might make it easier on

      @Elirum Месяц назад

    I'm very curious about this process on a darker wig! Like, would it be harder to cover all that white if a wig was a dark blue or a black. I wonder if it would be worth dying the fabric somehow to match? But at the same time, fabric dye has to be hot, which would set it and that's a no no....maybe some kind of colored spray....? Its insanely cool, I really love how it turned out.

    • @hope7317
      @hope7317 2 месяца назад

      couldn’t you die the wig after you’ve sewn it together? in this video sarah didn’t start gluing the wefts on until after it was already shaped to her head. it probably warrants some experimenting, but if the material doesn’t come in the color of your wig, that could do it?

    Indestructible wigs are my passion xD Also thermoplastics or epoxy putty (or even blobs of hotglue) are great for covering sharp wire end and metal bits. Though I still recommend hammering and/or filing first tbh. EVERY cosplayer should spend some time in the nuts&bolts section of the hardware store you will absolutely find useful things! I've always wanted to play with fosshape (and that other mesh stuff, I think its called varaform) but yeeeeah the price, whew! ANYWAY I recommend a full size garment steamer! Itll hold at least a liter of water usually, it's absolutely worth it even if you get a cheap one.

    i recommend a conair steamer i have the larger one with the blue water reservoir and i just borrowed it from my mom so i cant compare it to anything but it hasnt failed me yet and i think they also make one in the same shape as yours if it's more convenient for you to stand it up

    This was a great video I’m always learning something from your channel! Do you think you could make a video or like a short or something on showing one of your build books? I’m having trouble figuring out exactly what I should put in mine. I’m definitely the type too much too much! Thank you!

    I do a few crafts that need a lot of glue but no gluey hands , I use an embroidery hoop with a damp rag in it , I can get the glue off my fingers one handed if I'm already holding something in place

    One technique that I do with my wigs is I crimp the entire wig before cutting and modifying it, It takes a while but it gives you so much volume and it's easier to manag:D you also don't need as much hair for the wefts since the hair fibers are already thick enough
