when it comes to scents my mother taught me this..... part of the smell is the fragrance, the other is how it mixes with your personal skin. My mother loved the scent voodoo on her grandmother, but was disappointed when she got it for herself.... that's just life. Don't let that stop you from trying out new fragrances though as something that someone else doesn't like may smell heavenly on you.

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree! I was at the Portland show, and we were all holding our breath about the screen. I was definitely sad as it was my first concert, but I'm still glad I went.
As a side note, the lightsticks actually aren't synced to the show. There's a button to cycle through the colors! And as far as I know, the reason they usually only allow official sticks is... get this... to not interfere with the projection. So now people are doubly mad that they paid for the official sticks (which were $40 each) when there was no projection to interfere with.

    • @DancingNinja77
      @DancingNinja77 27 дней назад +115

Fun fact, they’re $40 USD. When I ordered mine in Canada I ended up paying over $120 CAD total for 2 light sticks, shipping, and customs 🙃
Not to mention that Mexico’s merch was released super late and I heard they won’t get any light sticks online or in person.

@@Nyabot-mh2zi with the way security was in not checking for official penlights, yours would have been fine 😓
I brought unofficial ones because of a hack where you put paper in the penlight tube to diffusse the light. Rolled up printer paper got them to the same brightness as officl ones and the color match was exact (save foe the extra colors it had). I saw some others too with unofficial ones, so it’s wack they did all that to insist buying official ones and unofficial ones still made it in.

    Other problems:
-Only 95 glowsticks sold at most of the merch booths (Some even had less)
-Not every VIP ticket holder got a VIP goodie bag
-No VIP early merch queue (Apparently this was supposed to be added to the VIP tickets)
-Some places had it where there was no glowstick limit (Which meant some booths had their glowsticks sold out within the first hour)
    -Miku cutout got stolen
-Miku Expo in Mexico only having roughly 33% of merch available. (Of course no glowsticks available)
I really want to go to the Miku Expo 2024 in London.

"we wanted to see the magic trick" THAT'S THE THING THAT MAKES VOCALOID CONCERTS WORTH IT!! coming from someone with no emotional attachment to vocaloids, that is THE thing other than the audience atmosphere that makes vocaloid _concerts_ make real sense, rather than just doing movie theatre showings or online streaming. seeing a cartoon character that even kinda-sorta looks like they're standing on the physical stage in front of you just scratches a particular itch in a way that a poorly integrated screen just _can't_

So much so they've hired us in Afghanistan , Greece, Spain , and yes Japan. Field entertainment, pro sound , rhinos , Rebecca's. These are teams that do most events people ever watch.
I do not know what team was hired for this show. I'm sure the team itself was just following orders as our job is. The added animations for Ten Thousand stars was already there in previous concerts, so they didn't take advantage of the LED screen and add new animations.

So I just took it in with the low batteries and it was fine! (The price of the lightsticks were absolutely ridiculous even back then, especially for something less bright and with less colours)

and honestly, that Miku Expo was so badly organised as well, I feel like its a common thing sadly 💀 When I bought merch, I ticked what i wanted on a sheet of paper and yet they still gave me the wrong things so I had to go back and try to tell them. And when the queue finally happened to go inside the concert hall from the big room they had barely anything to do in (we ended up leaving for food and coming back) it was so unclear where the hell the queue started that we're pretty sure we accidentally cut the line at some point.

In the case of México, Mikuexpo have always had issues with merchandise. Due to Mexican Border customs certain merchandise can't pass without throughly being inspected which can take literally days up to a week. The first Mikuexpo in mexico was a complete nightmare. Not only the merchandise did not make it in time, but even the VIP package gifts bags were missing. Crypton had to issue an apology to the Monterrey concert and the first day of the mexico city concerts for having nothing to sell. They eventually send the VIP gifts bags through the mail to all the VIP tickets holders. I guess is that they are only bringing the merchandise that gives less issues while crossing the Mexican border.

The best way I can describe it -- Hatsune Miku is like Santa Claus -- we all know he's fake, but that's not the point. It's the event, the people, the atmosphere, the cosplay, and everything in-between that manifest her into existence. She is the spirit of the season. The "hologram" is the validating factor, but when the fourth wall is literally broken, it's like telling kids they can visit Santa via a Zoom call. It just... ain't it. And ultimately that's the issue, that the people running the event genuinely didn't care enough about this experience and thought people would spend their rent money to Zoom call Santa rather than meet an old man cosplaying him at the mall.

@@MyFictionalChaos yeah, most standard props wouldnt be allowed given the limits on what you can bring in. though remember that not all props are held! i'd argue that rin and len's headphones, when making a cosplay, would count as a prop of sorts. even if you dont consider them props, i feel awful for the len/rin cosplayers. you dont really wanna be getting actual headphones wet, and you dont really wanna be getting cardboard/styrofoam/other foams wet either, even if they're sealed.

My first Miku Expo was the 2016 tour in Toronto and seeing the hologram after nearly a decade of being a vocaloid fan was such an amazing experience. It was also my last since they didn’t include Canada in the 2018 tour and the 2020 tour was cut short. I’m still going to the Toronto show this Thursday and I’m pretty sure I’m going to have a good time, but I’m also really disappointed by the screen/lack of effort put in to make the screen look good- especially since their ads for the tour said they’re using the projectors. Generally though, I just feel really bad for everyone who has said this is their first Miku concert ever. They’ve been waiting for years for this, just like I had back in 2016 (and still have been since 2016), and they won’t get the same experience

Same hat! I was there in 2016 too. I have ALSO seen the first "test performance" of Miku '""live""' in Toronto a couple yrs before that too (2013, I think)? She wasn't hologram for that performance. It was basically just a screening of the pro-recorded Japanese concert from that year. But that made sense, it was the first time they tried a Miku concert in Canada they weren't gonna invest in tour travel & setting up the venue for a big hologram concert unless they knew they were gonna sell enough tickets to profit. But they were upfront about it in the advertising too.
      THIS? Is sad.

14:53 NERD ALERT HERE time for a mini history of lights in k-pop and j-pop :D Penlights have been used in jpop as early as 1974 for Saijo Hideki. They exploded in popularity in the 90s, and began coming in all shapes and sizes (notably A.B.C-Z’s “Wolverine claw” penlight). K-Pop light sticks were popularized by the group BigBang in 2006! Member/leader G-Dragon wanted a way to identify the group’s VIP fans at concerts, so he designed a light with a crown on it and called it the BangBong. Before BigBang, fans held up balloons in support. J-pop penlights and k-pop lightsticks most notably differ in that penlights tend to be your specific, vs k-pop’s artist specific lightsticks which only get updates every few years (if ever). The classic light stick we know of today (dome with a logo inside it) is credited as being popularized by the BTS Army Bomb in 2015.
Please do correct me if I got any details wrong!

I was at the DC Miku show, I got standing room General admission tickets. NGL I cried once I found out she was led since it's been my dream since I was 12 to see a Miku concert (I'm 25 now). My biggest complaint by far was her size, she took up maybe a 3rd of the screen (half being generous lol) and I literally could not see the first 3-5 songs because I was towards the back of the crowd. My partner was literally helping me jump to see some of the performances. The crowd eventually shifted and I could see, and I overall had a great time! I just wish I could've seen her the whole time.

I think any further back than where I was it would've been near impossible to see them at all. And also for just an hour long show?? I was surprised it wasn't longer given how many songs they all have, like everyone had two songs and then the rest was just Miku. It was a long way to drive just for an hour long show!

miku looked trapped in a box the whole time and i expected it to at least go on 30 minutes longer than it did. I paid about 90-100 bucks for GA, and i didn't realize it was going to only be an hour show. i did have fun but that's a lot of money for a tv show where i had to look at miku through another tv (my phone) despite having an good-ish spot on the floor.

I was a Venue Stage builder from the Austin concert.
First and foremost all of the stage elements are 2D, all of the Buildings are straight lines and use diagonal perspectives while hung from the overhead Trusses in layers. Nothing like the R3 Cubes.
2nd the issue with the glass panel is likely weight and fragility, the longer glass is the thicker it needs to be or it will fracture on the road between shows. All of the equipment is road crew, nothing locally sourced. The Road crew Iirc was 3 or 4 semis and a penski truck. Each truck loaded Full without long slabs of glass.
3rd as stage crew manipulating the glass from truck to stage would be an anxiety nightmare. If crew broke it you bet we get docked on it.
LEDs are far lighter, break down into road cases 10-20 panels per case and those cases can be stacked 2-3 high.
LEDS also take only 120w/h per panel to power at max brightness and a full video wall can cost 10k. Where as a single projector on the low side is 1,700w/h the body costs upwards of 30k and the lenses are 3-5k each. Mind you 60-80% of the LED panels are off at any one time for the majority of the show, and they pay for electricity at each venue.
As much as i would have loved to see the projectors. Crypton was likely waiting for LED tech to reach a resolution and density thats on par to the projector, and likely to keep it that way.

While I'm happy to see more videos talking about the whole Miku Expo thing from bigger creators there are a couple little misconceptions I guess? That I wanted to point out.
The visuals talked about at around 10:55 , this is the song "Ten Thousand Stars" by Circus-P which was the song contest winner for Miku Expo 2016. You can see this exact same choreo/visuals being performed on the "holographic" screen if you look up recordings of MikuExpo 2016. The LED does not give them the ability to use these sort of graphics and imo it looks way cooler on the "hologram" screen
The penlights are NOT bluetooth I have 2 Miku Expo 2024 official glowsticks that I used throughout the Newark, NJ show, the people changing their glowsticks ahead of time just memorized the setlist.
And the message talked about at 15:14 about 3rd party glowsticks, *usually* this is because 3rd party glowsticks are brighter than Miku ones and cause excessively bright reflections onto the panel (and thus could ruin the show a little), not because of them 'syncing' to the music. This year I (personally) fully believe that this rule was still in place so that they could just milk everyone on $40 penlights under the illusion that it was still a "hologram" since the glowsticks went on sale a month before the Vancouver show even happened.

The asking price for attendance in modern economy is literal theft without the one thing they're known for even being provided - I get what you mean, and I'd be the same. If I bit the bullet and spent that much money for a disaster of an experience I'd be less likely to ever take that gamble again - these aren't a weekend movie, these were a quarter to half of someone's paycheck in entry fees. I was at the Prudential center in Newark at may 7th to see the show. The stadium has two main entrances, the m and ms tower and the citizens tower. Originally the merch booths were supposed to open at two but around a week before they changed it to 6 PM because they could not secure a spot outside for the merch booth. Which I think they should have planned to set up inside sooner, as anyone who’s been to there before knows it’s on the middle of a busy street with basically no safe areas to set up the booth🤷‍♀️.
Me and my friends waited 3 hours in front of the prudential center to get in and buy merch, which at this point in the tour had been known to run out quickly. The door were supposed to open at six but at six no one was even near the doors yet to start set setting up the security checkpoint. They started showing up around 6:30 PM to 6:45 PM I’m not exactly sure but around then. We could see the Prudential center employees arguing with some guy who had some company uniform on. I’m not sure which company tho. at seven they started playing the Prudential Center opening warnings which sounds like you’re going on a fucking roller coaster. By the way everyone thought that oh since they’re playing the warning, it should be when the warning is over the warning then was blasted into our faces for 30 minutes.
At this point remember that the doors are opening an hour late and now you have to sit there for 30 minutes as the credential center warning audio is playing and it sounds exactly like the voice opening for a lot of roller coasters at Six Flags in New Jersey, people start to get a little rowdy.
People started being called from the back of the lines at our entrance to go around the building, which I thought meant the doors weren’t open yet they were just splitting the lines because there were too many people there. Turns out they let the entire line in at the citizens tower. The VIPs were not lead in first as they were promised, and an entire entrance of the line who had been there for like three hours was let in after the entire line at the citizens Tower was. The second we walked in the line for the merch was running literally around the potential center hallways going in a circle around the stadium. I was genuinely confused when I got there cause I couldn’t find the the end of the line. The merch booths were on opposite ends from each other and they literally looped so much that the lines got tangled. Only 20 minutes until the concert so most people left the birch lines, but people stayed in the merch line for the entire concert just to get merch. Literally thousands of people in that line and there were only six people working at three at each booth.
Of course they ran out of light stick pretty fucking quickly, and the crowd was left diminished visually because around 2/3 of the people were missing light sticks .
After the concert, people wanted to get back in the merch line, which at this point was only selling stickers and canvas bags. However, around immediately exiting the concert We were rushed out by staff not even being let to Use the bathroom. I heard from a friend that the merge lines ended up getting kicked out to around 10 minutes later which was still an incredibly long line.

I use a cane so I was pretty nervous about hitting people on accident or dropping it but everyone would move to let me through and would make sure I was okay when I did eventually drop it. Also the nicest person who sat next to us pre-show had extra earplugs and was handing them out!
imo, it was worth what we paid and I would recommend going if you have tickets, even if you’re bummed about the hologram!

I was always skeptical about the "physicality" of the holograms but once you see it in person... Just wow. Absolutely crushed that a lot of peeps' first experience with Miku/Vocaloid concerts fell so short of expectations.

    i was also at ATL!!!! i REALLY enjoyed myself, but to be fair i;
    1) only paid $130 for floor tickets because of resale
    2) was in the very front. like 3 rows of people away from the stage (got to witness the garfield vs miku plush battle up close!)
the illusion up close was obviously better than if you were sitting on the sides or up higher, but still evident, and a hologram would have been miles cooler. to their credit, the screen quality was AMAZING up close. but for the majority of the venue not getting to be close enough AND the screen being so small to enjoy that is SO unfair. glad to hear you enjoyed yourself nonetheless! the live music was sooo good, and the energy from everybody can't be compared.

ARE IN FRONT OF IT i had so much trouble finding like side views and far away one, cause my place is seated and a bit on the side so i am anxious, and omg on your vids you cna barely see Miku i am soooo scared to not be able to see heeer ToT (i have garbage eyesight too) so thank you for including so many images you found AND took, very insightfull
I will very much still go to the Paris concert because it's only the 3rd time she is coming in France and the first I can go, i CANNOT miss the queen 🙏 but omg i am containing both rage and hype regarding this concert 😭

I was in Toronto on the floor and it was amazing for me! I really thought it would make a bigger difference to the experience than it actually did. The images definitely don't give the same impression as it's hard to get good pictures of a screen or projection for that matter, I hope you have fun!

I went to the Newark NJ concert, it had the normal complains of the screen is jarring and the merch line is impossible but we did have an extra issue. I think the venue wasn’t ready for the amount of people because they had the VIP line and general all messed up to the point that we had VIP’s entering the venue after the concert already started. It was really a mess I’m Lowkey glad I’m ADA because there wasn’t a chance I would had gotten inside in time otherwise

Oh hey we went to the same show!! I think I managed to spot my friend and I in some of the footage though and now I wish I had complimented you on your cosplay because I do remember seeing you and getting excited when I saw a Teto
Anyway, the reason I bring this up is that as someone who went to the exact show you're talking about, I found myself agreeing with a lot of what you were saying because I was actually there. While I didn't mind the screen too much, it was a little difficult to see from where I was in the floor (which looked to be ever so slightly in front of you from what I could see) especially since I was shorter than a lot of the people ahead of me. It was also a little disappointing to not have the actual hologram or for the screen to make it easier to see the performance itself, but just being around everyone was such a fun experience. I think the standout to me was when that one person pulled up a picture of the lesbian flag during Gimme x Gimme and Luka's song (I dunno if you were able to see it but I know I took pictures both times), but hearing everyone singing along to World is Mine was one of those moments that made me so glad I decided to go
I do want to correct one thing: at 15:00 you mention that the official light sticks sync with the songs, but you actually had to press a button to cycle through the different colors. I remember trying to anticipate who was going to be on stage and preparing the right color only to have to go back around because it wasn't who I thought it would be (AKA I was expecting Luka and it wasn't her). Unfortunately, that makes the "no outside glow sticks" rule even stranger since it's not as though they messed with the projection or anything. Maybe it was just for the official colors, but that wouldn't explain why they said only Miku Expo light sticks and not just Miku Concert ones

If the person I was going with wasn't insistent on still going and it was my decision alone, I would have definitely sold my tickets upon learning about the screen.
I still had fun, but I really wanted the hologram effect. I was pretty underwhelmed, especially by the effects like you said. They could have done way more to make up for it. This was the most expensive concert I've ever gone to so I'm just a little salty.
That being said, the band did really well ~

Same here! The concert was pretty good, but I had to rely on the band to get energy from the concert. Every time I looked at the vocaloids and their completely dark background it just took me out of it and made me remember that they weren't really there.
Hopefully I can go to a different Miku concert that actually has the projection

I went to Miku Expo 2024 in Detroit a few days ago. Yes, I was disappointed about the screen and the illusions not working. However, I had an amazing time! Some of my favorite songs were played. Heck, I cried at the end (I’m not an emotional person so if that doesn’t say something idk what does). I’ve been a VOCALOID fan for years now and I’ve dreamed about going to a show. I finally did after years upon years of dreaming. It was amazing!! I really enjoyed it, but I do wish there were holograms and the true Miku illusions. I guess I’ll let this slide because it’s my dream come true. However, next time, I’m seriously going to be very disappointed. I traveled 5 hours for this too. I really want to see the magic happen :(
(Everyone was really nice at the venue so that was cool! I also saw someone dressed as Elmo referencing that one show ((I think it was San Josie but idk for sure)). Everyone put their lights to red and started cheering! The energy there was incredible!!)

They should've done the led like how they did for magical mirai 2021, for that concert some songs had miku projected on the led screen above the hologram screen and used a huge projection screen and had full on decorations and visuals around the screen

The speakers on the edge of the stage during Hyper Reality Show have always been there since they started playing that song live (I'm like 90% sure of this), so it's absolutely not LED-exclusive and I'm revoking any points you've given them for that. It does look absurdly cool though, and the song itself is hype enough (VOCALOMETAL YEAHHHHH) for even the CRT-est of rollout school TVs. :')

As someone who lives in NYC and saw every single live show minus the very first one, this was a huge disappointment. Every other show was glass projection. you'd see people in the very front basically leading the wotagei. I used to grab seats in the balcony and I'd still be exhausted from the energy in the room. I'm so glad they moved her from the Hammerstein to the Jersey because I didn't feel the urge to go anymore.

My experience with Miku Expo was incredible. It was the happiest I've ever been in my entire life. The crowd was amazing and we did not care that it was a screen, we all still treated it like Miku was there. The band was having the time of their life, and the energy of the building made it easy to forget to be worried about the screen. I thought the stage layout was ugly in videos, but I liked it more when it allowed for so much color to be present on stage at once. The song choices made it feel like it was the Miku Expo I was meant to go see. I had never felt so connected to so many people at once and it was enough to make me cry, and I still do when I think back on it. It was such a double edge sword because with it being such a happy moment for me, I've had horrible post-concert depression since then and want to go back so bad. I would give up so much and go through every negative thing in my life a second time to re-experience it.
Everything outside of the show however is very disappointing. The lack of communication and merch stockage is horrendous. I feel bad for VIPs that didn't receive a VIP bag after they spent so much on their seats. Not to mention this morning, they announced they're not even going to try to sell light sticks at the Mexico show for "shipping seasons" 🙄 and while having exclusive merch, there's also not even close to the number of selections they have for literally every other show. It feels like such a trainwreck and scummy. The show was life changing, but Miku Expo as a whole has a lot of BIG problems. I really hope things are made right with merch and that future shows are better handled in every way if they even do any. I'll only get to experience a Miku concert for the first time once. While mine didn't get to be a projection, I hope other's first can have that experience.

I was at the Dallas show and I personally had an AMAZING time, our venue was a lot smaller than the others and I feel like this had a big affect on the experience. From the angles I saw of the concert the illusion was pretty solid and it only really looked like a TV when I thought about it or when they used a lot of white lighting. The crowd was amazing, the live band was great, and I would go again in a heartbeat!

I was actually at that first show in Vancouver. Paid 200 for VIP too and I got there early to try and get some merch but they sold out the entire stock in the outside merch tent before the doors even opened for the vip. Bc instead of having two different stocks for the outdoors and indoors merch booths they just continued to sell everything through the outdoor tent. I didn’t see a single person in the show even inside the venue after the doors open or after the show with 2024 Miku expo merch. To the point someone asked my friend (who had merch from the canceled 2020 show) how much they would take for the shirt on their back because people wanted merch so badly.
