Bruh same, I have no idea why I clicked on this video Lmao Edit: I meannn I could try to cosplay. I don’t see why not, I guess I’m just a little embarrassed hehe
Having an "uninterested adult" (read, uninterested in the convention not uninterested in your care) is the best kind of chaperone. They won't be distracted by the costumes and the glamour and the amazing convention-ness that is a convention; they'll be able to see the threats coming long before you will.
Yeah that was the slight disadvantage of having my brother there as a chaperone. But there is a slight advantage to having a tall, intimidating, and fiercely protective brother chaperoning you. As much as it scares me I know he would take a bullet for me if it meant that I would be completely ok.
I'm 19 and when cons start back up I 100% plan on having my mother with me along with groups because I HATE being alone. And shes slowly becoming somewhat interested in furry and cosplay because of my interest in this so I really want to include her in my activities. Especially since my best friend isn't 100% big on furry (not that she hates it. She just did NOT want to help me in suit because it brought down her fun doing things she wanted) So I was going to start having my mom come with me as a bonding thing and as a guard. My mother is very protective. So if someone does something to me, they'll get a shit storm :D
Tip you are legally aloud to carry around hair spray and it has the same affects as pepper spay, if you are going to a place that you may or may not be put into an uncomfortable position go to a store and get a mini hair spray. Its not expensive and it could save you from a not so good situation. Stay safe and have fun!❤ Edit: Someone has brought to my attention I forgot to mention if you are thinking of using self defence methods and or items you always have to consider further consequences, and think about ways you can avoid the situation altogether or find non violent ways to deal with the problem.
So for this type of situation I can only link to my video about dealing with con creeps. If it makes you feel safer, and it's legal, carry it with you. But do not use it unless you are in a situation that requires it. At cons your actions still can have legal consequences. ruclips.net/video/p3AesVIQIMc/видео.html
@@AnnieChieDesigns yes of course and if you are thinking of using self defence methods and or items you always have to consider further consequences, and to see if you can get out of the situation using any other non violent way.
I know this was a long time ago, but I thought it would be important to mention: Hairspray is NOT a good replacement for pepper spray. Hairspray is literally made for your head and to not harm you if it gets on your face. This means is will not have an effect. The worse it could do would be to confuse someone for like a second. It would be a much better option to use the hairspray is a bat or something to throw. Even that would do practically nothing.
@Boom boom I am a prince oh yeah that’s good too!! That’s why I try to find Chara with similar physical traits as me, so it’s easier to cosplay them :)
0:53 This is EXACTLY what happened to me last year LOL. I was 14 and my grandma worked SO hard on a dress for my Alice in Wonderland cosplay!! Puberty had other plans 😭💀
One possible fix: If you replace the buttons or zipper at the back of it with lacing, then you can leave a gap at the back there the sides don't meet, but it might look intentional. Historically fabric was expensive, and people didn't have a lot of clothes, so most European women's clothes laced up so that if they got pregnant or gained weight, it would still fit and they wouldn't need new clothes.
I went to my first con right before the pandemic started here, it was great, i had a fun time with friends. But now i want to go to a another con. Probably some time in 2021. But if you do go to a con i hope you enjoy it.
I remember this thing my friend told me about her first convention, she was about 13 and she was cosplaying as Uraraka from MHA, and then this 15-16 year old dude dressed as Dabi (I think) started hiting on her. It made her uncomfortable but the dude didn't back off, she said that some older cosplayer came to her rescue and got the other dude to go away
good on the other dude for getting the creepy Dabi cosplayer away from your friend. It doesn’t matter what age you are, hitting on a stranger is just weird and uncomfortable, and hitting on a minor makes things even worse!! It’s nasty! and when you’re that young, you’re kinda unsure what to do in that situation. So honestly, I’m really glad that someone knew something was up and came to your friend’s rescue
@@Shoppy08 aww tysm, good luck to you too! I also kinda wanted to cosplay toga, but i realised i would look slightly better in uraraka 🥰 happy holidays!
Here’s a tip that sorta falls into tip #2 of the video(don’t cosplay characters from mature themes) is DONT cosplay characters with super revealing outfits. I’m 12 and love to cosplay Candace from Genshin impact, but her out fit is quite revealing for a 12 year old to wear, thus I wear a deep blue or purple shirt with underneath my top.
@@AnnieChieDesigns what of I wanna cosplay harley quinn, but the male version (long sports shorts, and a normal t shirt with shoes) is that appropriate?
I sadly don’t have a cosplay because my parents won’t let me cosplay as characters from R-18 media but if my other brother allowed me i (i really wanna cosplay as venti because he’s good for me) (and my other brother is nicer my brother is just watching Quackity all day) (and yes i’m mexican so my mexican mom and dad won’t allow me because they might say i’m “UGLY” Or “Stupid”. my dad wants to watch The Promised Never Land and Hunter X Hunter lol.)
Hey! I was confused about this for a bit so in case anyone else is, here: If your a minor you CAN cosplay a character that’s an adult if it’s an appropriate character. For example, let’s take mha: You shouldn’t cosplay midnight, because of her costume, but hawks would be fine. :) hope this helped!
Guys! Don't forget, cosplay is not consent! I experienced sexual comment on my body in convention when i was 15 cause I was wearing a skirt. If you witness that, please go talk to the person who experience it to see if they are ok and report the person who did it. Cosplay is for fun and it's really uncomfortable when creepy guys say that to you. Please be safe.
@CharredCelestial Yeah! My skirt was pretty small but it’s not a reason. But he basically compliments my thighs with a kinda annoyed tone. It feel like he was legit calling me a sl*t for wearing a small skirt.
i wore a pink maid outfit to a con for my monomi cosplay at anime con bc i thought it looked good and i got multipul stares and sexual comments, i was 12 at the time
As someone who's mum had been helping them cosplay since they were 9, the thought of being in a con without her there is honestly kinda terrifying lmao, especially at the big yearly ones. Also, CHARITY SHOPS/THRIFTING IS YOUR BEST FRIEND!!
Me being twelve and knowing I won’t cosplay until like 1million years and still watching this be like 🥲 Edit : damn didnt think this would blow up lmao thx y'all
As an older person who attends these events it is important for the younger generations especially underage cosplayers who wear very tight clothing you will have what I call leeches hanging around you trying to take pictures or get a close look because my generation in the 80’s skin tight clothing was still not the norm. I know you want to show off your costume but you should always have a shawl, cape or other long piece of clothing to wear when not being asked for pictures it will save you a ton of trouble down the road.
@@yeahbutwhy8788 that is correct. Skin tight clothing was all but unheard of as fashion until the mid 1980s and it was so new that parents right up until the early 2000s would have conniptions if their kid wore skin tight clothing to school or in public.it is now more socially acceptable but it is still wise to be cautious.
@@thelauren760 I'm from the UK and apparently any other con then london con is meant to be pretty crap so if cons get back up hopefully I'll get to go to london con ☺
I started cosplaying when I was 11..... And I was really into Danganronpa... (literally an anime about teens trapped in a school and killing each other) ...yeah that cosplay doesn't fit me anymore. But my mum knew who I was cosplaying, she was fully aware I chose the one actual serial killer in that series (the other characters had other talents, swimmer, author, pop sensation, cook, you get my point) and yet, that convention was the best time of my life! I still to this day don't know why she let me do that, heck, she's even played the 2nd game, but even though it's not a good idea to go to a con like that when you're 11, don't let your age stop you from having fun, okay!? Toodles~! Edit: I should of clarified that I mean I started getting serious when I was 11, I tried it out and got a bit into it when I was about 6-7.
You are right- never let your age stop you from having fun. I have mentioned it in the comments earlier but this series in particular has gotten really popular as of late with kids and young teens. There are so many youngsters cosplaying from it that one can almost assume that when they see a cosplay from it they may be underage. Its a strange phenomenon. But you also give a good example that your parents were aware of what you were cosplaying, and gave you permission. That's an excellent step to take since it helps with the safety issue down the line as well.
@NADIA CHRISTY I TOTALLY AM! I'VE NEVER FELT MORE FREE IN MY LIFE! When I put on the cosplay, i instantly felt like Fukawa! I know that may sound horrible, because her backstory is not really the best but imagining that I'm her makes me feel extremely flustered.. but good! Normally I'm the loner of school and even with pastel colours for clothing no one notices me. Even so.. cosplaying her made me realize how people feel when they become someone else. It's a powerful yet frightening thing, to bear the power of someone else.. yet deep down your still you no matter what. M-maybe it's because before I cosplayed Fukawa I never was in full cosplay and doing so gave me an epiphany.
Woah I didn't know so many people instantly knew who I was cosplaying! Toko was my first cosplay ever and I have another one (that fits me) because.... Wow she is so great to cosplay as and brings back so many memories! (I love her so much, she's been my favourite in the series since the anime, all the way to udg, not even V3 characters changed that for me)
It depends on the situations you put yourself in. If you plan on going to conventions or posting the cosplay, research the intent of the conventions or sites. Be safe and make sure you’re comfortable in what you wear :)
Depends on what you will be doing Going out? Bring some friends Tiktoks? Go ahead! Just be safe while going out, and try to avoid people who give off bad vibes. I bet your cosplay will look great!!
me who has BASICALLY been cosplaying for a couple months (lmao old closet cosplay) yes helo me too hii (i consider if ur cosplaying for 2+ months u technically arent a beginner anymore just a starter)
Extra tips: 1. When cosplaying a character with a mask with minimal vision u should always be accompanied by someone as a "spotter". 2. Pay attention to weather. If you're gonna be outside you'll want to know if it's going to rain so as not to damage your cosplay. 3. Make sure your cosplay is comfortable to wear. U don't wanna be stuck walking around a con all day in a cosplay thats too hot or uncomfortable. 4. Have fun and be confident! Cosplay is a form of creative expression, show it off to others and be proud! ^^
Great tips for sure 👌 this video was just covering tips specific for younger cosplayers! I do intend to do a video about more general "cosplay safety" and "con safety" eventually with similar tips to the ones you mentioned
@@AnnieChieDesigns Thx! Btw I liked that u mentioned about making a cosplay that might not fit u later a lot of younger cosplayers don't think about that and a lot of cosplayers don't bring it up so it's good to hear someone mention it ^^
The last one I need to do/work on. Two days ago I went outside in my Himiko Toga cosplay and...I was so embarrassed! I love to cosplay but I get soo embarrassed!
i started cosplaying when i was 11 and have had great experiences. i bought my entire cosplay for the first year, didn't worry about makeup and stuck with my family rhe entire time. at the time i didn't want to and wanted to go off with my friends or on my own but i quickly learned that it was better the way it was. once i turned 14 i was allowed to go with my friends but that was only because i was much more mature than i was at 11 years old. it is annoying at first having to stay with other people, especially family, but it is a lot safer and will be a better experience than getting harassed.
I actually have supportive parents on this topic. My mom is huge on photo shoots, makeup, etc. and my dad is big on RPGs and such, I was exposed to weird stuff for my age: though they helped me find my in-between! My first cosplay was bought online (I love it up death still to this day.) , it’s a Violet Evergarden cosplay. I can’t do them often though due to price, I’m surprised they even let me use that much money on something. It was 136.00 US dollars.. my dad took me and a friend of mine to a con, and it was great. I head out near a cosplay convention and I even had a junko cosplayer ask for a photo, etc. and they had pre-mature activities. Something I suggest is finding the right guardian and convention.
I wish I could have had a trusted source like this when i started cosplaying 🤧 Thank you for being a guiding light for these kiddos, I wish I had these tips when I was 12
Thank you for this video, even though I’m 16 (I started cosplaying at 13), I’ve never thought about (or barely considered) some of the points you made. At this age, sometimes it’s difficult to realize you are not invincible, and even though I consider myself to be mature for a 16 year old, I also sometimes have trouble with that. Please everyone who is cosplaying (underage or otherwise) stay safe, because the world can be a dark difficult place, and even if you think or feel that are safe, things always happen to the best of us. ❤️
Everything she said about it made it sound like she was trying to tempt people into breaking the rule. People will assume you’re mature and treat you like an adult? Oh no, no teenager wants that! 😱
Adult cosplayer here! These are all great tips! I also 1000% recommend walking around with someone else, even as you get older. I've always had great experiences at conventions overall, but even as an older teen/young adult a few years back found myself in a couple situations where I kind of froze up and having someone with me helped a lot (older dude hitting on me at 19 where my younger sister helped me get out of the situation; that one time a girl pelvic thrusted at my friend and offered to "repopulate the clan" with her while she was dressed as Sasuke Uchiha and me and another friend had to turn around and be like "she's underaged please don't"; etc.). Another tip I'd like to add is that, if you feel uncomfortable always head to the bathroom if you can't get to con staff for help or find another way to kind of shift away naturally. When I was getting unwanted attention from that guy I mentioned earlier, I was able to duck in and kind of recollect my thoughts which was helpful. But more than that, usually if you're younger there are adults in there that will notice you're distressed or you can ask someone to get a con staff member. There was a group of friends in the bathroom touching up makeup that overheard my sister and I talking about being worried that the guy would still be out in the hall waiting, and one stayed with us while the other two went to look in the hall. After they told us the coast was clear, they told us to come back to the bathroom if we had anymore problems with him because they were going to be there a while. I've found bathrooms are almost always crowded at conventions, and usually creepers don't like to try and be creepy in a crowd. So, the bathroom can be a good spot to collect your thoughts, break away from uncomfortable situations, and sometimes even get help if needed.
I was going to cosplay as Dabi and my cousin was going to do Toga for Halloween. My parents would never take us to a con/know why we want to go so that's out. I'm actually going to be Saiki k in regular clothes and just make TikTok's lol. I know I am still 11 but I have a tip too: If your character has regular clothes or even stuff you _think_ they would wear, you can wear that instead! Like, Ima do Saiki but not buy a uniform so Ima do his casual clothes. DO NOT ever compare your body type to others cosplaying!!! You are beautiful the way you are even if you don't believe it!! I struggled with body appearance too and now, I'm trying to eat healthily, be positive (which is really frikin hard), and work out more. You *CAN* cosplay a character if it's not your race, your body type, hair/eye color!! I know most anime/video game characters are white and there are many other people who have different nationalities and want to cosplay as them and I say go for it _(As long as it's appropriate)!!_ Don't be afraid to ask for help from somebody if you're making a costume! YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A CERTAIN BODY TYPE TO DO IT!!! You can be overweight, a little chunky, skinny, etc. Don't let that stop you! Also, I love your Sailor Neptune and Uranus figures!!
Thank you this is really sweet and true, I have darker skin but always wanted to cosplay lighter characters but I was always so scared because well I was dark and they were light but obviously nowadays I know that its okay!
Thank you for making this clear xx I'm the same age as u lol btw- I'm getting stuff to cosplay as one of my au ocs in a roleplay I'm in and now I'm a lot less insecure 👌🏻
I’m 11 and I really want to cosplay, I might just start off with just tiktok. Then maybe I’ll move to cons, this way I can be safer from pedophiles, etc.
Honestly Tiktok isn't that safe either, tons of creeps on there. If it was before the pandemic I would say wear it outside when you're going shopping and things like that (if you're allowed) Since at the age of 11 you're probably gonna be shopping with other people so you won't feel uncomfortable because there's people to confront whoever and they don't want that-
I'm not underaged, but still curious to know. Thus it's why I'm still watching your video ;) TY for bringing this up, it's really engaging to hear about it!
I have never really sewn before so me and my grandma are making a Klee cosplay together! Since Klee has a pretty simple outfit design (also the fact that her outfit is baggy anyways) I'm pretty sure it will still fit by the time we finish it! Another thing to add to that, I barely ever get taller :'D. Love the cosplay advice btw!!!!
It's fine, as long as you're not toxic, and if people jump at you try to fight back, idk to be honest, also, go with people you trust or people that you know will defend you! ^^
Oh I thought you were being literal for a second. * *FLASHBACKS TO WHOLEWHEATPETE* * He's this dude that cosplays as Zenistu. He often jumps at nezuko cosplayers screaming "NEZUUKKOOOO CHAAANNNN". It's pretty god damn funny.
Wow, I feel like we ride the same timeline! I started cosplaying about 9-10 years ago too when I was in middle school. I did start off doing simple things, like Marshall Lee, and it was really fun and enjoyable! Anyways, all of your advise is spot on. So glad you made this video so that the young ones can feel more prepared and at ease
I can't stress that first point enough. In high school, I was growing two cup sizes per year, so it's good I didn't get into cosplay until my senior year. There's also no way to stress that second rule enough either. I see 13 year olds cosplay from media with lots of implied gore and pedophilia on TikTok and it's quite disturbing that they're into these franchises. This really bothered me when I was at a con and a girl's mother was asking me about some 18+ panels her kid wanted to attend and if it would be okay with parental supervision. The girl seemed to be well under 15 and we were at an event for DDLC, which is completely inappropriate for her age group to attend in the first place. I straight up told the mother the panels were pornographic, that it would be very awkward to attend it with a parent and that if my mother knew I was planning on attending those, I'd die of embarassment or get disowned. Kids these days really, truly, firmly believe they are "above" other kids when I come to this "comparison of maturity" thing. I don't think there's any way of stopping them, even with close parental supervision.
i cosplayed as Juddy hops for my 1st con, i was 15 at the time. now im 19 looking back i realized how dangerous it is for minors to be left alone even for a minute..long story short i was harrased by random adults and i stopped cosplaying until i turned 18. Now im almost 20 and i developed a stronger self defense barrier against con goers and online ppl. really good advice for everyone. ever since my first con i take my 6'4" brother to every event i go to, jeje.
Here’s some other tips: • Plan your cosplay out before you start! • if you plan to use your cosplay for years on end, make it a little large so you can still fit into it in the future (I usually borrow my mom’s clothes) Hope this helps :)
Yeah last year me and my dad were going to go to one for my birthday but there was a hurricane and since we live in the south on the east coast of course there was alot of damage and we didnt get refunds
Last year in September while I was 17 I was going to go to my first con. My grandma and aunt were going to be my chaperone, but the con was canceled for no reason.
This is a very important set of tips - I hope you are able to reach all who need this. Thanks for sharing (especially the "age appropriate" part - I have been doing the cons for years and I have seen things no one should see, and met the parents who allowed it)
"go in groups" me and my friends ready to go as the whole karasuno volleyball team and coaches/managers: 🤠😎 edit: crikey- I hate when people edit their comments to say thanks for likes but holy stromboli- over 400 likes on a comment that's a lot thank you fellow weebs :))) and for yall saying you need friends I got chu covered because if every one of us cosplays together we can be every team! from karasuno to Nekoma and even Ubugawa! :)
Hey anyone new watching this *please* don’t share your age!! there are real creeps out there, even if it only happens 1% of the time that’s still 1/100 people who will get harassed by creeps due to revealing their age
@@horsecrazycrafter omg I’ve never heard someone talking about cosplaying from ons !! I cosplayed Mika at an anime con once and I was the only ons cosplayer there (also heard there releasing season 3 soon and I’m hyped )
same tho- my parents are completely okay with me cosplaying, and my mom and aunt actually encourage it (they want me to be more social), and yet every time I almost convince myself to start cosplaying, I get super embarrassed and end up not doing it.
When my brother is older, he's going to be the one accompanying me to a convention when the world gets it's crap together. We have another older cousin, her name is Melissa, she loves cosplay and anime! She'll be coming with us. Can't wait for my first con!
#4 rings true for me a lot. I was never a minor in my cosplay life (since I started at 18), I'm always cautious with underage cosplayers. Ok yeah I was relatively open with you when we first met but as I've gotten older I distance myself a lot from under 18 cosplayers. Not that I don't like them just... in recent experience cosplayers who are minors can cause a LOT of issues for older ones by twisting things and being believed without hesitation or proof.
3:17 i understand this, but as a stubborn 13yo who has already ranted to almost every adult on the internet and irl about omori i am still searching for a basil cosplay
I'm an underage cosplayer who's wanted to cosplay since years ago, and only started cosplaying recently. I REALLY want to go to a convention, but my parents are very concerned about me attending conventions (because I'm the first cosplayer they've known). I'm showing them this video because I want to educate them about conventions and other things, so thanks for making this video :D
Glad my video could be of help. I highly recommend showing them Kirilee Cosplay's video meant for underage cosplayers and their parents as well. It's also very helpful!
When I went to a con before, my parents went to meet an actor and my friends left me to take pictures. I saw this person who was dressed as the same character as me and i asked to take a picture. He realised I was alone and he became my dad for a good 10 minutes 😂
Adding onto the first tip- If you’re minor and in the fnaf fandom like me, I recommend making a head cosplay and gloves. This is my plan and i’m so excited for my first convention!
I've seen a lot of minors cosplay from danganronpa (including me) I feel like danganronpa kinda passes tho cus it's not really fitting the rating tbh but idk
Yeah I have also seen comments saying that people who are as young as 10 cosplaying Danganronpa characters and honestly I really think it’s fine as long as the costume isn’t really revealing or something. Most kids will just wear their cosplays for Halloween or just for fun.
I’m a minor who cosplays from Danganronpa too. I would say the rating fits. Minors make up a HUGE part of the fandom. Honestly, I think it’s fine as long as you’re dressed appropriately and don’t act out or say anything sexual or anything. I’m a little biased but you know
as a young danganronpa cosplayer, 12 to be exact, I believe the games aren’t “too much” (at least for me) and some people can handle the stuff that happens and enjoys it. although it revolves around classmate friends killing each other, it’s quite interesting. I haven’t gotten many dr cosplays I only have ibuki sayaka and I’m ordering a toko one rn:)
I’m so happy and lucky that my mom is such a huge fan of me doing cosplays and surprises me and my sister with wigs and costumes all the time She also watches anime with me. I’ve been to a comic con but never like dressed up and I can’t wait to go to my first con in cosplay one day and Ik she will 100% be just as excited as me
There are a lot of you asking about telling your parents about your interest in cosplay. My friend Kirilee Cosplay did a video addressing this exact topic, as a video you can show to your parents and such. I would highly recommend it! Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/Dh9TN1DBNbk/видео.html EDIT: Be sure to check out m'ladylemon's video about asking your parents to cosplay as well: ruclips.net/video/aeyJoGjsV8g/видео.html
im 14 and ive pretty much stopped growing taller lol, just quarantine weight. and also, thanks lol. this is super useful knowledge, as over the summer im turning 15 and getting a job, 1 so i can get pokemon diamond remake and two for cosplay supplies! so this is super handy to have
@Mossy Lou honey... first work on your spelling, lol. second, i am 2 years older then you and you shouldn't be watching that content. and your not acting 16, your acting like how a kid your age THINKS 16 year old's. and self defence doesn't help when a man 3 times your size comes up behind you because this cute little kid could make them a lot of bucks on the black market. stuff like that happens in real life, their not just stories people make up on the internet. plus, all those shows and 18+ media your consuming can do horrible things to your mental health, its not good for you. someone looking out for you and making sure you don't get killed or raped is not a bad person. if you truly acted like a 16 year old you would know how dangerous it is. you are not as grown up as you think, and you don't act as grown up as you think. you may think the world is all happy and rainbows and that nothing can happen to you, but sorry to crush your hopes and dreams, but the world is dark and scary and a horrible place to be. i say this because if you truly acted like a 16 year old, you would know this. hell, i'm 14 and already understand it. a phone at 100% doesn't help when your kidnapper takes it from you and smashes it against a wall. being in a small town can be just as dangerous. stranger danger doesn't matter if you're being dragged away from safety. this is for your own good.
@Mossy Lou I was sincerely not trying to be rude. As said in the video, these are tips and not rules, and you don't have to follow them. All my tips came from a good place from my experiences when I was 13-18 years old, and based on some of the scary things I saw happen to friends as well. I mean my tips out of concern for safety. Sorry if it offended you
my mom always teased me for watching anime and when i asked for a wig she was like for what? and im like to cosplay and so i can wear dis for halloween so yeee
I am not a huge fan of makeup, and since I’m not an older cosplayer, I don’t really own any makeup. The person I’m cosplay looks a little strange without any eyeliner/makeup but I’m not sure how to make it look a bit better without much eye makeup. (Sorry this is a little complicated) Is there anything I would be able to do to make it look better?
To be completely honest, I didn't start using make up until I was 14, and didn't even touch eye liner until I was maybe 17. Mascara is much easier to apply and a little goes a long way, or just darker eye shadows if you want to avoid eyeliner all together
A small amount of eyeliner or dark eyeshadow instead of liner should level up your cosplay and be less enough for you to be still comfortable enough xD
3 years later, and it’s recommended to me at the perfect time. I’ve always really wanted to get into cosplay, and have been (as of recently) starting to try put together cosplay outfits for possible cons I could go to soon enough (I haven’t yet.) I also want to get into making my own cosplay outfits at some point. This is really helpful for learning what to do with this stuff, and I’ll definitely remember this for years to come! I fully appreciate your tips, thank you :]
Beautifully done! You hit everything while being respectful to everyone. You're right, stuff happens and the last thing anyone wants is a minor to get hurt in a place where people are supposed to be having fun.
Here's another tip: Know when to say "no." If someone wants to take a picture of you in your cosplay that you're uncomfortable with, speak up! Don't be afraid, because that's your body and your work being portrayed.
"Don't cosplay characters from media that is 18+" 10 year old me dressed up as Freddy Krueger: Edit: Lmao I guess a lot of people got into danganronpa at the age of 10
Hey thanks for this, im 11 years old and i am getting my first cosplay for Christmas. I brought one and im not sure if im aloud to get some accessories for it but its ok! I hope that i will get better and seeing these videos will help alot! Thanks so much for the tips
Me, who is aware of mature themes: *_a small price to pay for salvation._* I’M JUST KIDDING! I completely agree with not Cosplaying 18+ characters. If I saw a Cosplayer that’s dressed as a Character that’s in a more grown up Anime/Manga, I would assume they were around the age it was suggested for as well! If I ever cosplay, I would prefer to Cosplay characters that were more Covered up(Obviously not all ‘Mature’ characters dress inappropriately or whatever), or were more..Noticeable as Non 18+. I personally prefer being covered up though so that might just be me.
Everyone has different things in cosplay that make them feel comfortable or confident. Some it's being covered up and others its wearing a tad more revealing things. But for those revealing costumes it's definitely nest to be 18+ 😎
Remember there’s no shame in adapting a cosplay to fit your comfort level as well! If a skirt is too short for you or you don’t like their sleeve length, ether make it longer or wear skin tone pants/leggings/sleeves for it! If they wear a body suit and you aren’t comfy with that, maybe go for an AU or casual look. Your comfort is what’s most important- after all, you’re the one in the costume! As long as you are having fun, you are doing cosplay correctly.
These are some amazing tips! And I have to admit that 5.) really hit close to home - I remember my first cosplays, and trying to get materials and having such a hard time with it. Now that I am an adult, the resources are so easy to get it's still baffling to me every time
@@twib9330 I can definitely relate I have to have my friends buy me wigs and outfits because I’m not allowed this means I need to find ways to make money without my parents knowing

I'm a younger person who's been thinking about cosplaying for a few years! I've always pushed the idea down because I was scared of how safe it was and I hate how I look, but this has made me feel way more confident! I might start cosplaying thanks to this video!
Thanks for helping us stay safe! I'm ten and don't plan on going to many big conventions but I do go to comic-con with my mom and dad. I've been cosplaying mainly as finn the human
Hello I'm interested in starting cosplay and i have a few Cosplays I wanna from my hero academia and some other shows Could you please tell me if these cosplays are ok for me to do?, Eri from mha, Catra From the she-ra, Izuku midorya (Female. And school uniform), Luz noceda from the owl house, Shirayuki from snow White with the red hair, That's my list I'm planning on making my cosplays since i don't grow Very fast besides for height, I also have some Clothes in my closet that could work for them.
Hi! Welcome to the cosplay community. I personally can not tell you what you can and can not cosplay, I am not authority and there are no rules on who you can cosplay. I just recommend not cosplaying as characters from 18+ media nor anything terribly revealing if you are under 18. I do not know all these characters, but I know a few of them and most of these are appropriate for youngsters. Have fun making and putting together your cosplays!

me, who is not underage OR a cosplayer:
Having an "uninterested adult" (read, uninterested in the convention not uninterested in your care) is the best kind of chaperone. They won't be distracted by the costumes and the glamour and the amazing convention-ness that is a convention; they'll be able to see the threats coming long before you will.
Exactly this!
Yes! Absolutely! I am so thankful my mother was there in my younger years when I started cosplaying.
She just did NOT want to help me in suit because it brought down her fun doing things she wanted)
So I was going to start having my mom come with me as a bonding thing and as a guard. My mother is very protective. So if someone does something to me, they'll get a shit storm :D
But with that, they probably won't help me cosplay at all :(
Tip you are legally aloud to carry around hair spray and it has the same affects as pepper spay, if you are going to a place that you may or may not be put into an uncomfortable position go to a store and get a mini hair spray. Its not expensive and it could save you from a not so good situation. Stay safe and have fun!❤
Edit: Someone has brought to my attention I forgot to mention if you are thinking of using self defence methods and or items you always have to consider further consequences, and think about ways you can avoid the situation altogether or find non violent ways to deal with the problem.
Also, try closet cosplay! It’s basically just finding random clothes around your house with your cosplay wig!
Yes I love closet cosplay. Sometimes it’s fun to also make outfits inspired by characters, too.
This sounds fun I’m going to do it 🏃♀️💨
Or without a wig!! Helps if you have hair that works for the character or a wig though-
@Boom boom I am a prince oh yeah that’s good too!! That’s why I try to find Chara with similar physical traits as me, so it’s easier to cosplay them :)
I don’t have a cosplay wig-so the only person I can really cosplay that I know is Kenma-(the hair)
A lot of excellent advice, not just for underage coplayers, but for everyone.
To be fair yes a lot of it does apply to all cosplayers!

You shouldn’t cosplay midnight, because of her costume, but hawks would be fine.

@@BuzziConCtr I did it when I was like 10 😭✌️ what was my mother thinking

@@yeahbutwhy8788 that is correct. Skin tight clothing was all but unheard of as fashion until the mid 1980s and it was so new that parents right up until the early 2000s would have conniptions if their kid wore skin tight clothing to school or in public.it is now more socially acceptable but it is still wise to be cautious.

I agree. Do whatever makes you happy.
Did you cosplay as Scissor guy/gal? Cuz thats cool, how many scissors did ya have on ya XD? (I forgot their name but I think it was Jack/Jill)

That sounds very fun! I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

As an ADULT who has been put in uncomfortable situations by oThEr aDuLtS.... I can confirm that Tip #2 is VERY important....
Everything she said about it made it sound like she was trying to tempt people into breaking the rule. People will assume you’re mature and treat you like an adult? Oh no, no teenager wants that! 😱
@@csrjjsmp We don’t want to be treated *like* an adult, we want to be treated with the *respect* of an adult. Slight difference there ;)
Adult cosplayer here!
I know I am still 11 but I have a tip too:
If your character has regular clothes or even stuff you _think_ they would wear, you can wear that instead!
I know most anime/video game characters are white and there are many other people who have different nationalities and want to cosplay as them and I say go for it _(As long as it's appropriate)!!_
Don't be afraid to ask for help from somebody if you're making a costume!
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A CERTAIN BODY TYPE TO DO IT!!! You can be overweight, a little chunky, skinny, etc. Don't let that stop you!

Honestly Tiktok isn't that safe either, tons of creeps on there. If it was before the pandemic I would say wear it outside when you're going shopping and things like that (if you're allowed)
Since at the age of 11 you're probably gonna be shopping with other people so you won't feel uncomfortable because there's people to confront whoever and they don't want that-

Ok yeah I was relatively open with you when we first met but as I've gotten older I distance myself a lot from under 18 cosplayers. Yeah I have also seen comments saying that people who are as young as 10 cosplaying Danganronpa characters and honestly I really think it’s fine as long as the costume isn’t really revealing or something. Most kids will just wear their cosplays for Halloween or just for fun.
@@AnnieChieDesigns Danganronpa has gore plus swearing but all the gore is censored by a hot pink color so I would say it's okay for the most part.
I’m a minor who cosplays from Danganronpa too. I would say the rating fits. Minors make up a HUGE part of the fandom. Honestly, I think it’s fine as long as you’re dressed appropriately and don’t act out or say anything sexual or anything. I’m a little biased but you know

I’M JUST KIDDING!
