  • "Displaced" takes viewers to Columbia, Missouri, where Ray, a homeless veteran, struggles under a new state law that criminalizes homelessness. The film starts with a poignant scene of Ray being displaced during a sweep, an action now legitimized by state legislation. As Ray scrambles to salvage his belongings, the documentary underscores the harsh measures of this law, showing sanitation workers and law enforcement in action.
The narrative exposes the flawed approach of penalizing homelessness instead of addressing its root causes like poverty and inadequate housing. Ray's interactions with city officials, police, and other homeless people reveal a system more focused on criminalizing the vulnerable than helping them.
Set against Columbia's urban backdrop, "Displaced" critiques the criminalization of homelessness and its impact, highlighting how such policies fail to tackle the underlying issues. It calls for a shift towards compassionate, supportive solutions that provide real help to those like Ray. The film is a powerful plea for rethinking how society deals with homelessness, emphasizing empathy over punishment.

    About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

Being a Homeless Veteran for 10yrs if any of you think it's easy it's not. Nobody cares about our situation but Mark and our organization called "NaVu for short. If Mark reads our comments. Tell you this. I'm a Service Connected Disabled Veteran and I'm taking names to sue everyone involved for three things pertaining to the illegal law making homeless a crime. I know the Senator's names that signed the bill. Let's hold them all accountable. I'm sick and tired of what we're facing because of them all. Every Senator in the Congress and House are responsible for our homelessness.

@Mike-tu7uw Homelessness has less to do with money and more to do with lifestyle. Mental illness and drug abuse are the most common problem. Even if offered housing, many people prefer living on the street. We must concentrate on those who need housing the most, parents with children, and move outward. We're spending too much for too little!

Like politicians, ones with hearts? I see jerry below, his comment about Canada is more civilized, etc. I don’t know about you, but thots about that is, no sadly, too too many Canadians are homeless or close to it. Cost of living doesn’t match with any liveable wages, young middle old senior, it is all shitty. And, again depending where you live ditilley, but i see more every year how Canada’s enabling the 2 tier med. system, forcing one to have med. insurance.....ugg i am so sorry to dump on you like this......this was so well done, wasn’t it? @bevgordon7619 I also reside in British Columbia, approximately a 6 hour drive north of Vancouver. I was recently medevacced down to St. Pauls hospital back in February 2024 to figure out what was happening with my defibrillator. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw firsthand how out- of-control the drug pandemic is. My curiosity got the best of me when I looked into the homelessness issue in the DTES on RUclips. I was appalled at what I saw...I used to hang around in the E. Hastings & Pigeon park area back in the late 80's, early 90's. This issue was never this bad until the pandemic hit everywhere & the rising costs of living went thru the roof. I was heartbroken to watch the way that the homeless Veterans are being mistreated on the streets, especially by the city employees hired to sweep these "illegal encampment." NO compassion or empathy whatsoever. 😢

They already have pre built camps. They are called Prisons and County jails. That is why they want to make homelessness illegal.
Camps cost money. FEMA camps are a myth. Our Government doesn't want to pay for camps. Money allotted to homeless is invested into camp removals and homeless diverting. Why no bathrooms? They don't want to pay someone to clean them.
Our Government puts tiny bandaids on broken things that we call homeless.

In Honolulu from what I've observed is most of the homeless are disabled. The one man with no feet from diabetes lives in his wheelchair in front of the ER. He told me he can't get medical insurance because his wallet with his ID was stolen. So he lives in front of the ER because the law says the ER 's have to treat everyone who comes in. The 80 year old man in a tent a block from me. He said he gets social security but it's not enough for even a studio. He's on the waiting list for a low income subsided apartment but there's a six year wait. He's already 80. The list just goes on and on.

This is sure a video I'm glad Mark and his video production guys got out here on RUclips, to raise more awareness on the criminalization of homelessness. I really couldn't help feeling angry for those homeless people, when I watched it. It really made me glad that in the chorus of my Criminalization Of Homelessness Must Stop song I got the lines, I hate every day that the cities got the galls, judging people for not having a ceiling and four walls, when they push the homeless around can't help shaking my fist, instead of help all they offer is just a waiting list. There's one of the past Invisible People videos I'm glad I watched when it comes to that last chorus line, because when Mark said in the video instead of help all they offer is a waiting list, I thought yeah that will make a good line to have after the third chorus line, when they push the homeless around can't help shaking my fist. It just came to my mind that it would probably be better to change that to clenching my fist.

Tell that to be thousands of homeless people that die every day while you sit on your phone and type about how God loves everybody meanwhile churches sit empty 90% of the time when they could be housing them.
Tell that to the millions of people who die every year because hopes and prayers is all anyone ever sends.

@@Kerry-ft2zf Last I checked, a rich guy didn't murder people at the convenience stores near me. Last I checked, a rich guy didn't bust all the shop windows down a strip of several blocks. Last I checked, my neighbors didn't lose their daughter to a rich guy who kidnapped her when she was outside playing. These were all homeless people, and I could list a lot more, but I think I've made my point. This is the reality on the ground, not some theorized rich boogey man a thousand miles away pulling levers, but real reality.
I've been insulted by homeless people, I've been attacked by homeless people. I saw a person once who had a "will work for food" sign, so you know what I did? I went home, filled a big bag full of food, from a sub sandwich to bananas, fruit cups, soda, water, crackers, condiment packages, wet wipes, socks, and more.....I went back and handed it to them. They looked in the bag and you know what they said to me? "Can I just have some money instead?". I've seen several different people use the same "I'm a veteran, spare some change?" sign. They just drop it at the street corner in the bushes, and whoever comes along picks it up and starts using it. I've seen all of this and more. I have very extensive direct experience with the homeless, every single day. Not just driving past them in a car, but on the street, in person.

So sad. I'm homeless too, but at least I have a car to sleep in. Same fascist attacks in Australia for decades now, due to the exhorbitant rent rises in the early 2000s because of low interest rates, and then there were many people including whole familes sleeping in their cars, and so the councils made laws to get rid of them. Them now means us.
Good news is that some are speculating that the recent earthquakes in Taiwan might be CCP military technology. Hopefully China, or maybe Russia, (but please not Iran), will defeat the USA and the rest of the so-called western world fascists and bring some humanity back to our lives. At least there'd be enough homeless people to not make us the exception if we couild please lose just one war

You apparently dont have a right to own anything unless you pay a for-profit business to store it for you. Its forcing people to pay for things that should be a granted right. If they buy an RV, their only option is to PAY a for profit RV park to stay in their own property. What does "public" even mean then? I sleep in my SUV regularly when traveling, and it annoys me endlessly that police always harass me. No matter where i park.

Help support housing. Pushing homeless people to another city and then that city pushes homeless people back all while homelessness is growing is literally insane.
