Such a fine tune. This engine is a beast, except for the pull starter (which broke at the second time) and it's carb. It heats up with the engine block and mess up with tune.

nice to see the xl is still around after their went under . i have an origional XL i just dug out of the scrap bin i plan on restoring . looks pretty close to the v1 ?
I wish they would have bigger tires for XL version. As it used to be. But nice rig you have there. Sounds like you have rich from bottom and lean on top.
I bought the duratrax six pack mt 3.8 tires for my new gt6xl and it still wheelies and does burnouts like before and traction is alot better than stock and with the f5.9 power just full throttle mid turn and it kicks the ass end out making it highly controllable
I found the big red engine an awesome power plant once it’s broken in and tuned however, the dual pull start/roto start I found was shocking! I went through 7 during the break in process, it’s a great idea but flawed in execution. You have a high torque electric starter twisting crappy cast aluminium against the high compression of a new big block engine, leading to hex socket failure. If you use the pull start, then you have plastic pulling against metal(another genius design decision (hold up sarcasm sign)) which again is up against the high compression etc etc, leading to the internal teeth of the pull start getting chewed away, this can be identified if you get the symptom of 1 pop then a free spinning pull start. I appreciate that this may be not everyone’s experience but it was definitely mine, my engine is now broken in but is now on its 7th pull start. The money I’ve spent on pull starts I could have brought a much higher spec better grade OS engine!
Yeah, I took it off right away. I got the big red and then switched to the lrp then the car kept breaking and sold it. Now I bought an old XL and fully converted it to gt6.
@@NitroRcDr interesting, yea I've read that the new batches of hpi stuff were much worse quality, whatever factory they moved to is a downgrade good thing i have an older xl. ill get an lrp32 if i can find one if not then a big red
How are you the only person who has one that shifts? I want one so bad but it seems like people can’t get them to shift gears. But yours is running good. Is it the new engine?
I shimmed the transmission and while I was there I set the second gear right and then I did the 3rd gear from the outside. I had the original engine, then a big red and now I just installed an LRP .32 SPEC 4.1. It's a competition engine, I'm posting a video today, check it out !
Mine also shifts like that lol. It's pain to get it, but once you set the second gear, it's easier to adjust the third. No need to take apart the gearbox (c'mon HPI? wth)
Deactivate the 3rd gear by turning the clutch around, that means you can focus on the second gear shift point. Start with the grub screw really lose, that means you’ll definitely be in second gear( because the clutch will engage early, probably without you hearing it) and just turn it in half a turn a turn each run until you hear it shift, once that’s done, re activate 3rd by turning the clutch around and do the same thing, remember they work on centrifugal force and the internal gears are spinning slower than the pinion so you need to have the space to allow the speed to pick up, trying to do it in a 30 meter space out the front of your house won’t cut it ( as I found out lol)
Man, the stock engine has a horrible idle and tune. I don't know if it was because I bought it on the first batch but I wouldn't take a tune. I ended up selling it. I also sold the truck, kept breaking and I didn't want to keep spending money, I broke, the brakes, the transmission, differentials, servo burnt etc... Horrible quality, I got into track cars now.
@@FIPackage I built both kits, there will be some videos coming soon, next week I'll post them for sure. I''ve been really busy with work but trust me I'll upload some content next week.
I've been watching every vide and comment I can before spending $700. THANK YOU for the excellent video (with no stupid music!), and the info. I really wanted a Losi eight, was attracted to the xl because of size and 3 gears, BUT- what good is it if it's sitting on a shelf waiting for parts?! Yeah, Losi or MP9 for me, MP9 can be converted to 2 speed from the excellent Kyosho Gt on road, but it ain't cheap...
Yeah, I ended up selling it because it kept breaking. I bought a losi 8ight XE and a losi 8ight XT both with AD3s. Ill be posting some vids soon. Im rebuilding a Jato now and will post a vid. Ive been out of the youtube game for a while because of my job but will be posting something this week most likely.

What motor has more power the stock motor or the dynamite 28 ?

I feel like these tires are more stable than the terrapin. I have another XL and it flips left and right. Thanks man !

@@Jham1994 that’s awesome !!
@@Jham1994 the only problem with modern day tires is that they weight too much for nitro. Wish they could do lighter option tires also.
Buy a set of nemesis genesis wheels if your wanting larger , they're awesome
Way to represent man! Great content!🔥🔥🔥
Thanks brother.

Yes, the engine is great, the pull start is GARBAGE ! I only use the rod to turn it on because the pull start always breaks.
Hey there! That is an epic motor you have put in there I was just wondering where did you get it from and how much is it? Thank you
Hey, thank you ! That's the Dynamite BIG RED .28 engine, it's $169.00, you can get it on ebay, amazon or any hobby shop online.
@@NitroRcDr ok no worries thank you very much for your help
@@brandenbreen2667 Any time !!
Only question I have is where you can pick up one of these unicorns? Out of stock everywhere I look.
Lol, I preordered it in November man.
Did you ever have shifting problems with the 3 speed?
how does the big red compare to the stock 5.9 power wise? did you have to adjust your gearing or anything? runs great in the vid
I hated the 5.9 since day one, a lot of tuning issues. I feel like its the go to engine for the xl man.

Nice video. What brake pads did you switch to. Mine are rubbing on clutch bell. Thanks. Part number would be helpful. Thank you
I did the carbon disks, sorry I don't have the part number but mine rubbed with the bell for a bit and then they stopped.
Awesome Truck !!!
Thank you !!
I just bought one I hope it runs that well.
Make sure you tune the engine super rich
Nice truck ,big red or lrp 32 what do you like more
Big Red, it's a lot easier to tune.

Did you have to heat the grub screws up to adjust them? Like to much thread lock
Yes, I had to hit it with a little torch I have.
Crazy wonderful
Did you do anything to the transmission to shift appropriately?
Just shimmed it. Nothing ever broke, but I sold it already.

Where can I get the roto start back plate for Big Red?
It comes with it already, if you look in the center of the pullstart, it has a hex. All you need to buy is the losi hex rod and you're good to go.
@NitroRcDr where did you purchased it? All I see with pullstart.
Fantastico 💯
Where did you get it. Ive been looking.
I pre-ordered it back in November. I think they are out of stock for now.
Does it still wheelie with the BIG RED
