    The tracking of the scale is definitely strange, I tried that on my own. It's useful for surface-tracking stuff (if you place an image on a wall where you want the image to imitate the x- and y- scaling of the wall) but not so much if a person moves away from the camera and maybe turns a bit. In that case, it would be greate if we could lock the ratio between x and y. Maybe in the next update ;-)

    • @dylanjohndickerson

    As for new features / overdue features - Global editing! Being able to apply a an effect to a clip as the first point in the chain and no matter how many times you drag it to the timeline those effects are applied.

    Do you use this method for censoring faces?

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  2 года назад

      I never censor faces. I want to upset as many people as possible.
      You can! I think Coremelt also has a plug-in that can help but yes, the built in tracker with maybe a shape mask made on some Gaussian blur would work.

  • @MichaelSasser
    @MichaelSasser 2 года назад +1

    Very very clear explanation! Nice work. Is there a way to add motion blur to text/objects as they move around? I've found that adding a motion blur onto the text layer doesn't do anything because to the adjustment its not really moving. Let me know!

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  2 года назад +1

      Hey Michael! Thanks man! As in say, blurring out someone's face as they move around?

    • @MichaelSasser
      @MichaelSasser 2 года назад

      @@dylanjohndickerson no, i mean let’s say you want to track text to a finger as it points around. I mean to add motion blur to the text as it follows the finger. It will make it look more natural.

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  2 года назад

      @@MichaelSasser Ah I see. So usually if you were to add a motion blur layer/title over top, it identify's what's moving quickly in the shot and blurs based on perceived movement. So tracking isn't really needed.
      You could drag a directional blur on to the shot, adjust the size and feather, and then use keyframes, but that would be too much of a pain.

  • @Hoootts
    @Hoootts 2 года назад +1

    hey, thanks for the quick vid since the update, how would you use the tracking function to blur the rest of a shot and focus on a face?

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  2 года назад

      Hey Nick! You're welcome! I assume you're trying to create a fake shallow depth of field? It's not going to look that great in my opinion, but what you'd do is use a gaussian blur and follow the steps to track it onto your shot, then create a shape mask of the blur and invert it.

    nice. can this new tracker use like lock on stabilzation?

  • @studioriz
    @studioriz 3 года назад

    I love how the tracking is locked to the clip used not the object itself so it can shift it around and not have to retract! Heaps of time saved.
    They definitely need to keep working on this feature. Would love to actually have a tracked mask (without using a plugin).
    I use it all the time to highlight areas.
    Another thing that I keep struggling with and haven't worked out is to make custom lines (tracking would be great on this as well) and animating them.
    Can you use this tracking to also manually stabilise a clip?

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  3 года назад +1

      Agreed. And if they could create a roto brush for FCP that would be amazing. It definitely does need a little work but it’s a good start.
      As for stabilizing, as far as I know, it can’t. Maybe in the future something will be added.

      Hey Noah! I actually have quite a few videos on how to do that. The best looking way is with the plugin, Color Finale. There's a free way to do it, although it tends to break your colors apart if you push them too much. I've listed two of the videos for you:

    I'm wondering whether the tracking is up to doing a full shape mask. So define a bezier shape mask for the first frame, and FCP tracks the boundaries... automatic rotoscoping basically. I don't think this is yet possible, but if you know otherwise, let me know!
