Very helpful! I did a lot audio panning tricks lately, with stereo……. Dam, I lower my volume for further subject and louder with close up! Panning left to right right to left! And I just realise there’s a surround sound!
you have no idea how you saved me, for the first time in my life I am making a film, the clients wanted 5:1 sound, you helped me a lot with your video. Because I have never encountered such a thing, thank you very much)
Dude! Every time I watch one of your sound design videos, I want to redo all my projects! This is soo good! I am starting to add more ambiance and fill SFX than ever before...Thank you for your dedication to education! You truly make us better editors! Goes to show you're never too old to learn something new!
Haha no need to do that! Just apply the concepts to your future videos 🙌 Thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback. I really do appreciate the support, Scott. Have a great holiday season!
@@weeklyfascination I literally have to pace myself watching Dylan’s videos! Every time I end up redoing 2-3 projects and then I feel bad I didn’t do better. Lol
This…..THIS!!!!!! I’ve wanted to know how to do this since forever! I’ve had to bounce my audio and import into Logic Pro X to have more mixing control. Now, I don’t have to! Oh man!!!! This has made my day!
Hey man! The is the 2nd video I watch with you explaining Great techniques and I am loving it. I really don’t know how to thank you enough. I just gave you 2 thumbs up one from each of my accounts.
That was a great tutorial! I learned so many good tips that I will use on every edit from now on... I'm happy that I listen your video with my headphones. Surround sound is awesome... Thank you! 🙌
Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it useful :) Utilizing surround sound for drone videos is a big help. That way if your say, filming a waterfall, you can set some background 'forest/jungle' sound effects to ambience and use 'create space' to animate a waterfall sound as the drone is moving around. Thanks for watching and letting me know you enjoyed it!
I forgot to mention is that you'll need to make sure that your project says that the audio is '5.1 (L R C LFE Ls Rs)' when exporting. Usually you'll have to export in ProRes or you can bring it over to Compressor and adjust the audio from there. I truly hope you'll be able to take what we learned today and create something awesome! Hi Dylan, great video thanks for creating it;) Quick question - when you export for use on RUclips, I assume its in stereo format? As far as I understand RUclips only supports 5.1 on its Tv and Movie content. Can I ask what this video was exported to RUclips as, to preserve the examples of your amazing panning of surround sound? You mention compressor, did you use any 'special' settings for RUclips export?
@@CharlieSilverlock Thanks so much Charlie! I exported it out from Compressor I think using the basic 'Up to 4k' RUclips & Facebook preset, but I switched audio to 5.1 Surround I believe. If it's true that RUclips only supports surround in certain situations, then the surround panning that you set up will sound good even when it's converted to stereo audio.
@@dylanjohndickerson Thanks for your reply Dylan, just to clarify, you exported and uploaded to RUclips as a surround project 5.1? I suppose RUclips then converts to a stereo/binaural 3d like experience for the listener?
@@CharlieSilverlock That is correct. It's a great question my friend. I have no idea what RUclips does with it. All I know is I'm okay with how it turns out when I watch the uploaded video.
My pleasure! Thanks for commenting, my friend. Definitely give it a try and let me know what you think. Also feel free to shoot me an email or message if you have any questions 👌🏼
Hi! Thanks for the video. Thaks for your FCPX cheat sheet too. It's great. It's worth checking out what RUclips does to the surround mix by comparing it to a stereo mix you have previously done. It's strange to mix in surround when 'the audience' is gonna use stereo sets, as 'a machine' is going to make the choices, if you will. I'm not saying it's not gonna work, just that it's worth making sure it does as it's not common practice. Thanks for your work once more! :)
Great tips - including the use of the keyboard shortcuts. Stupid question - does the use of the surround channels require the person playing back the audio have a surround sound system? What happens if they don't?
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it. Definitely not a stupid question. It's something I probably should have brought up in the tutorial actually. They don't have to have a surround system to notice the difference, but obviously they can't be listening out of phone or laptop speakers either. You can hear a difference just by listening to the video with decent headphones.
It’s been awhile since I’ve done so, but I believe by exporting as a master file and then bringing it in compressor and making sure that the audio settings are set to 5.1

What’s the transition do you use at the beginning?
It's a transition from the plugin pack, mJourney, from MotionVFX.
How do you export so your video is in 5.1?
It’s been awhile since I’ve done so, but I believe by exporting as a master file and then bringing it in compressor and making sure that the audio settings are set to 5.1
