    This is exactly what I want to do. Just paint the chrome trim to black and keep the grill. Glad I got to see what it will look like. Thank you.

      Hello Ron Oh.
      Thank you for your positive feedback. Switching the grill is the fastest way to make your truck look newer, Toyota has not changed any of the body panels or headlight style. 2020 Tacoma will have the updated headlights, tail lights but keep the same body.

    I purchased a black grill surround from a dealership back east for $125 shipped. No paint chipping.

      Hello Pyrate.
      My grill is currently chipping so I've decided to vinyl wrap the out portion of it. This way it won't chip, cost me $75 to have a shop do it.

      Thank you for the positive feedback, I think the 2019 grill looks great when you paint the outer part of the grill black. The actually grill piece is a gloss dark blue.

      Hello Mario Sanchez Jr.
      Thank you for commenting, this video is intended to show the installation and re-installation of the grill only. If someone wants the 2020 grill and has a 2016-2019 truck, it'll work perfectly. Basically if you own a new 2020, you can't install any of the previous generation grills.

    I'm hoping this is the same for the 2020 SR5. I ordered a black surround for $85 to replace the SR5 chrome one. Also plan to darken to chrome toyota emblem with tail light tint film.

      Hello Michael Parks.
      Yes the 2020 Tacoma is apart of the 3rd generation of Tacoma (2016-2020) are the same except for the front sensor introduced in 2019

    • @MrMikey1273

      @@pentzwerks yeah the radar sensor. That should not be hard to deal with. Since I'm not changing the grille entirely I should be able to unplug it and disconnect any wire management and put it back or zip tie it down again on reinstall.

    Very nice video! Today, on my way to a V.A. Medical appointment I took a bird strike to my grill on my 2019 Tacoma. Luckly, the only damage was to the black trim ring on the grill. Just wanted to ask a quick question. Would I need to remove the entire grill section, like you did, in your video to replace just the trim ring? Thank you in advance. Poor Turkey Buzzard did not fare as well. :(

      Hello Rockbay79
      You can remove the outer trim without removing the center grill. Pay attention to what clips you are loosening and you should be able to remove it with ease.

    I’ve done everything you said and my grill will not come off. I don’t know how I could possibly be doing it wrong. I’ve even tried removing so addition clips. I’m at a loss. Everything is disconnected as it should be.

    Great job, I have a 2019 , Question what Paint did you use on top of the chrome.

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  4 года назад

      Hello Drone Pilot Bob
      I simply used some plastic spray paint that I bought at Home Depot. Make sure you make the chrome rough by using some light sand paper, and clean the surface before painting.

    If I just want to paint the existing chrome bevel on my existing 2019 trd off-road grill, would I still need to remove the entire grill for it to pop off? It seemed like it had its own snaps and one could carefully pry that off without removing entire grill unit. Is t that not correct? Thanks.

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  4 года назад

      Hello Mark Duke.
      The spray paint has began to chip on my grill so I'll be removing it to repaint it. I would suggest dissembling the whole grill piece because it makes things easier for prepping for paint. I can upload a video of the whole paint process as well so I'll be doing it in 2 weeks.

    Where do you pick up the black copping for the grille? I’m finding chrome everywhere.

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  5 лет назад

      Hello JHR_Silence_.
      The black trim around the grill is the OEM chrome piece that would normally come with it. I sanded the chrome, then used very fine sand paper to smooth it all out. The last step is to paint it with a plastic gloss black paint or matte black paint. I took it to a shop to get a wrapped but they wanted $125, so I just painted it.

      Any plastic spray paint will do, only cost $8-$10 at most. Do multiple coats so you don’t have chipping later on from rocks.

    There are at least 6 extra clips to remove. 4 on the bottom and two inside near head lamps. They can be very difficult to remove and sure as hell doesn’t take 5 minutes to do this but I guess that’s how you get clicks

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  4 года назад +1

      Hello JohnConnor333.
      If you look at the video again, at 2:20-2:20 I show you a pair of needle nose pillars. This tool allows you to compress the clips and push them out without any struggle; maybe 5 seconds a clip (in total 30 seconds). It took me less than 5 minutes to do this install as I've done this install multiple times and it's very simple. It might not be simple to you due to the fact you did not use the tools I suggest to use. These videos are not about "clicks" these videos are about helping people with installations by showing them how to do them; I do not do this for money. Thank you for commenting, I suggest you use the tools show next time you do any install.

      I’m not sure if the ones by the headlamps need to be removed. Those may be for the bumper. However, I removed all of the clips that you mentioned and my damn grill still won’t pull off. And there is no possible way that I am not “doing it right“.

  • @yaddi3434
    @yaddi3434 4 года назад

    Those clips are a pain in the ass. As soon as you get one popped, the other goes back in. You didn't show removing them or the screws. Not a 5 min job for ANYONE. More like a half hour.

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  4 года назад

      Hello Matt.
      I've installed 4 different grills on my Toyota Tacoma and I can do it all under 5 minutes. The key is to know what to do; and use needle nose pillars to compress and push out the clips. I did not show the screws as it's hard to record while doing it; the next video I do I'll make it a time lapse.
