I’ve had a 2008 Tacoma years ago, and I plan on getting one soon.. been looking into Tacoma channels, and this one earned my subscribe! Great content! Thanks!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again (referring to the Sport and OR grills,) the 20/21 > 18/19 > 16/17. My truck is a 2017 and has the original, all chrome, cheese grater grill! The 18/19 were much improved, and as you know, the 20/21 are better yet. I love the heritage grill and replaced my original cheese grater back in 2017. Separately, there are two hood strut companies out there to consider. One is Red Line Tuning that I went with, and the Running4Taco guys have another brand. Hood struts are one of my favorite and most useful mods to date! Keep up the great channel!
Awesome video. I would recommend getting a small moving blanket ( harbor freight )or a couple towels to set down for the work area . So the finish doesn’t get scuffed up
The new grill looks just like my 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport. Looks so much better. You are a hard worker and I really respect you for that. You mentioned a new suspension mod. There is only one lift kit that Toyota sanctions and thus you retain your warranty on the TSS system. It is sold and must be installed by a Toyota certified technician. It was just released in February if this year and will fit the 2020 and newer Tacoma’s. It lifts the truck two inches in the front and one inch in the rear(to level the truck). It replaces the 2 inch Bilstein struts and shocks with the 2.5 Bilstein struts and shocks. Basically, they install a new grill that accommodates the new angle for alignment to make the TSS system work properly. The technician installs it, recalibrates the TSS alignment on the radar and window camera and does a realignment of the front suspension. Im not sure what other parts they use to lift the truck. I understand that it costs about $1800 dollars and with labor it is about $2400. You can count on Toyota for quality and you maintain your warranty. Other aftermarket lift kits voids your warranty, putting you and other people outside your vehicle at risk without the TSS system working accurately. You can get bigger tires and have more frame to ground clearance with this Toyota kit. I am buying one soon.
Great job Khloe, I have a 2021 Tacoma with your new grille and I thought about swapping over to the Pro but it has a camera on the front and the after market doesnt have a provision for that. I think after watching your video, I will just stick to me stock grille, it does look kinda nice.. Great video Khloe, thanks.
You can ask the dealership to check the VIN and see if your truck has Campaign for the Radar Cruiser Control. If it does, bring it to the Dealership and they will put a shield behind the sensor to prevent water or moisture from getting in or building up, causing that "Mal-function message". It happened on mine when i drove my truck under heavy rain and somehow water slashed in and that message popped up. After the shield was installed, it's good til now.
That grills definitely better looking. Great choice! I don't know much about the newer Tacoma's. I have a 1999 Tacoma. They're 6 inches shorter, 4 inches less in width and 2 inches lower. I prefer their size and looks over the newer Tacoma's. My opinion only.
You choose a good grille. I know everyone likes the TRD Pro grille but I think it's played out too much. I have the SR5 and I wanted to change mine some. I decided to take out the chrome surround and put in a black one.
Don’t feel bad. I bought a 2019 brand new from dealer. They preinstalled a 3” suspension lift, 17” trd pro rims from the 4 runners, trd pro exhaust, and 33 inch tires. It’s a trd off-road and it looks better than a trd pro. Unfortunately looks can be deceiving because the engine/trans is a complete pile of shit. Wish I would have never bought it.
Chloe Kuo, I currently have the Pro grille and am replacing it with the same grille you installed. I do not have the 8 small screws that secure it to the surround. Any idea what size screws they are?? Planning on going down to the local hardware store and buying some.
Looks great the grill but when your driving any rocks bugs will hit your radiator. I have 2017 Tacoma n i bought a mesh grill and nothing goes through it.
BTW. . Lane departure and collision avoidance work off of the camera behind the rear view mirror. Mine burned out on my 2019 TRD offroad at just 30,000 miles and the warnings flashed on. They did cover it under warranty but it's just more tech that I could care less about making problems!
I just sprayed painted mine flat black, 2014 taco cause i hated the chrome on it. Now all the chip damage on my bumper and grill from tiny rocks is getting to be pretty bad. I asked Line-X how much, both bumper and grill around 350 yucks. So we'll see. That chrome did look like a cheese grader though. New bumper looks much better.
I actually only love the Pro grill compared to all the grills available so far including aftermarket ones. I like the heritage Toyota letters and the all Black look. ]
Just what I was looking for...thank you! But it looks like the grille that you installed is different from the one in the BuiltNco link above. Does anyone have any suggestions on what they've used?
I just got my 2021! Tacoma off road 4x4 And having a great just bearly going on 2 weeks and can't stop adding the small mods slowly working towards the big stuff
I have to get a new foam piece since it was a sticker and the adhesive isn’t sticky anymore. The design of the new grille is made such that water can’t easily get in from the top (compared to the old one), but I should probably put a new one on
Great video, but I was going crazy that you did NOT put a towel or blanket down when you were changing out the grills. You open up the chances of getting scratches. However, you did good. 👍🏻👍🏻
You can test all sensors with Toyota techsteam. It's much safer and reliable than attempting those real world type tests. You can pick it up for cheap on Amazon.
Yes! I’m the turn only one who prefers this grille over the TRD pro one!!
I agree that it looks better than the trd pro grill. Just putting in those trd pro grilles when its not a pro looks cheesy IMO.
@@CodiTheJedi Always thought I wanted the Pro grill but I really like the grill on my 2020
I like my 2020 grill over the pro. I think too many people do it so it's played out.
Yep I sold my pro grill and got a 2020 grill lol looks way better
I prefeer this, it looks so great, congrats Chloe

Good job Chloe! It really does enhance the facia
Wow that grill made a huge difference and looking great!

That’s funny cuz I have the same problem you have. Camera on front lol. So I’m staying with it
Just installed the same grille in my SR5. Thanks for this video, it was very helpful!!
The front end looks so much better with your new grille!
Awesome job! You are hired. Like the new grill over the old one.
Great video Chloe. Keep up the awesome updates. You really bring excitement to Tacoma's and modding. Cheers.
I'm going to change my front grill. I got an all chrome grill for my Suburban.
Awesome! I love my 2020 off road grille too. Everyone at work wants me to install a Pro grille, but I love this grill more. Great pick!
Been a fan of this grill! Definitely a keeper
Agreed.....good thing a lot of people with this grill are changing to TRD Pro ones and selling these used cheap.
Gonna get hood struts later? Makes popping the hood open so much more convenient.
I did the grill on my 2017 Tacoma it was really easy thanks to you’re video . I want with the same grill as you did
Great choice! Personally, I’m getting tired of everyone switching to the pro grill. It’s overdone.
I agree
I like original. 😂
Same, its very over rated, always thought the trd offroad grille was more sleeker
Totally agree. Love the heritage but let the pro people have their special grill and stop diluting it. Be proud of your vehicle whatever it is.
Just replaced my OR grille with a PRO one, thanks a lot for the video!
My 2020 Tacoma TRD Grill didn't need washers on the TSS..just plug and play ..no issues..Hi Chloe!! Looking 👍
Looks awesome! Great video!
Looks way better than last gen grille lol
Jesse Rizo I think you called the old grille chicken 🐔 wire? 🤣🤣🤣
Nice video and the grill looks amazing. What do you think of hood shocks instead of the rod?
They would come in handy, and I’m thinking about installing some
Awesome!!! I watched your video and was able to change my grill!
Hi Chloe how has the reliability been? Any repairs or recalls?
Cool grille, I put the pro on my TRDOR back in 2017 when I purchased it. I think you convinced me for the upgrade. Thx for the demo 👍🏽
Literally EVERYONE does the pro grill. Good for you, doing something different and tasteful
Great video and nice improvement. How long did it take you to install the new grille?

Another great video. I think your updated grill looks like the grill on my 22 TRD OR it's Canadian so I am not sure if it's the same as US version
I have a 2020 and I actually like the grille more than I thought I would.
That grills definitely better looking. Great choice!
I don't know much about the newer Tacoma's. I have a 1999 Tacoma. They're 6 inches shorter, 4 inches less in width and 2 inches lower. I prefer their size and looks over the newer Tacoma's. My opinion only.

Awesome look, wonder if u can add raptor lights to it
Here I am wishing I even had a Tacoma! Just graduated nursing school so I'm hoping to be able to afford it soon!:)

Very nice choice of grills and awesome video… nice job switching over to the updated grill. 👍
Good choice! Love this grill. You've got some great taste in parts/mods.
Can’t wait for my lunar rock TRD pro!
That grille looks really good!

What’s the cost of that grill and where can I buy it. I too prefer the look of this grill over the heritage grill.
Look on Facebook Marketplace, I've seen them go for $80-150
Finding a take-off from someone else is cheaper than buying a new one and the garnish from a dealership
Best looking Tacoma grille.
I bought the same one(no sensor) for my 2017 Toyota tacoma!!!
Thanks for your videos!!!
Where did you get it?
Chloe you’re amazing!! Next time I’m in SD let’s go to cali tacos!
It’s cool that you like it. I swap mine to the heritage grill. I like both. I still have it, in case I wanted to switch it back.
Awesome video. This made it super easy. Thanks so much.
Love this new grill, and of course the video as well.
Looks amazing! I just ordered mine. Pretty excited.
I like that you did your own thing and didn't go with the PRO grill.
Yeah the new grille is fire...2016-2019 grill < Pro Grille < 2020+ grille :)
I was wondering if there was any lights ( emergency - hazard- running )that would attach to the grill
I like the 2020 Grill over the TRD pro because the pro grill everyone has it
Looks great the grill but when your driving any rocks bugs will hit your radiator. I have 2017 Tacoma n i bought a mesh grill and nothing goes through it.
I am just starting my build and getting into over landing ran across your site great videos.
Good luck with your build!
@@ChloeKuo thanks
Nice! I did the same thing. The 2020 grill was beefy compared to my 2018 TRd.
BTW. . Lane departure and collision avoidance work off of the camera behind the rear view mirror. Mine burned out on my 2019 TRD offroad at just 30,000 miles and the warnings flashed on.
They did cover it under warranty but it's just more tech that I could care less about making problems!
Great tutorial and a nice update for your truck..!
Chloe, great choice of grille. I love the look also. I have it on my 2021 TRD Sport.
I’ve done it myself. I did the TRD Pro grill and Rigid Industry TRD Pro Fog Lights.
I have one similar to that that the dealership put on it. I wonder if thats why the cruise control doesn't work right?🙄
Nice grill I have the same one ,I have a 2020 off-road 5foot bed in white and love it so much !!!
Looking good Chloe! Cant wait to see it with new fox shocks.
I got the same grill on my 2018 OR!
Love working at Toyota! I could see a lot of peoples rigs
I just sprayed painted mine flat black, 2014 taco cause i hated the chrome on it. Now all the chip damage on my bumper and grill from tiny rocks is getting to be pretty bad. Excellent video. Very detailed, I dig that. 🤙🏼
I switched to TRD Pro grill and yes I have a sensor malfunction. Toyota wanted 600$ to recalibrate it. I need to try this washer idea.
Thanks for the video!! Awesome content
Another great video, thanks Chloe.
i'm so glad you didn't go with the TRD Pro grill!!
I actually only love the Pro grill compared to all the grills available so far including aftermarket ones. I like the heritage Toyota letters and the all Black look. ]

@@TNAWWE only gross if you don’t actually have a pro 🥺
@@dan13no i agree! i think it looks very tacky when someone throws it on a Limited or a Sport or Off Road. just doesnt look right.
might as well plastidip everythin lol
Nice like the look of those
Definitely looks better than the old one lol
Did you have to disconnect your battery before disconnecting the sensor?
I have a 2020 OR, I swapped to the heritage grille when I first got it, very quickly swapped back to the OEM. It looks great! Good choice.
Its a really nice swap!
Just what I was looking for...thank you! But it looks like the grille that you installed is different from the one in the BuiltNco link above. Does anyone have any suggestions on what they've used?

Did you get the water proofing patch back onto the sensor?
I have to get a new foam piece since it was a sticker and the adhesive isn’t sticky anymore. The design of the new grille is made such that water can’t easily get in from the top (compared to the old one), but I should probably put a new one on
Very nice job! You made. It look so easy! mahalo for the Video!
Awesome grill
Looked on that site but this grill not listed any longer. ..Damn. Great video though.
I really like my 2020 off road. The grill reminds me of teeth on a file. IMO it's the best looking grill, not to mention easy to clean and dry.
wait does ur adaptive criuse work all the way from zero? or 40 and up?
It works from 30 and up
Good Job Chloe. Love you. Love your channel.
I’m one of those nut jobs that loves the chrome 16-17 Sport / Off Road grill.
There's a part of me that really likes the chrome too, which is why I keep all of my badges chrome and have chrome tailgate letters!
Yoooo did the same on my Sport. Reason being because up here you see so many of the non pros with the heritage grill now.
You forgot to slap that moisture foam thingy back!!!
I personally like the grill that says Tacoma on it😊 and ur Tacoma looks great,
Good switch Chloe ! They are a better looking grille.
Great video, but I was going crazy that you did NOT put a towel or blanket down when you were changing out the grills. You open up the chances of getting scratches. However, you did good. 👍🏻👍🏻
I totally should have, especially since my bed mat is dusty 😂
I like this new grill better
Nice work. What did you do with the old grill?
It’s in my house just for decoration haha
You can test all sensors with Toyota techsteam. It's much safer and reliable than attempting those real world type tests. You can pick it up for cheap on Amazon.
I was unaware this existed. Thank you, I’ll check it out!
Did you put the water shield back on the sensor that the dealer added later on?
I’m glad it’s wasn’t the pro grill lol. I was over mine that’s why I got a 2020 grill for mine 🤙🏽
Where can I buy that grill lmk anyone
Great content! Subbed !
So... no links to that aftermarket grill website in your description huh?
Unfortunately since it was a take-off from another Tacoma, I don't have a link. The best bet to get a brand new one is to call your local dealership
Good job girl.....excellent DIY!
looks great!
What about mounting forward camera?
