  • I shot this video on April 9th and now a couple of days later the temperatures are in the 80's! We still have a danger of frost until May 15, but I'm going to have another look at the garden centers at the end of April and hopefully get some nice vegetable plants for a small garden this year. I miss my large garden in the old house, but I'll have to build a new one here in this house. I hope you enjoy the video, thanks for watching!

Get seeds, grow your plants, save the suckers for overwinter. Keep them cut back and water less frequently. It's possible to keep them for the next year.
Support your local greenhouses. They may be more expensive but will likely have more variety.
I work at a top performing greenhouse and nursery in CO that supplies a very large portion of the rest of the US. We are seeing shortages like you wouldn't believe.

I totally agree...get seeds and grow your own plants! I didn't know there were shortages up the supply chain, I thought it was because its been too cold here for them to put out the inventory. I hope they have more inventory at the end of April. Thanks for your comment Grumpy, I really appreciate it!

Thanks Tikki! I wonder if they didn't get their inventory or if the newly revived interest in gardening is this great. $14.00 for parsley is pretty much my annual parsley budget. LOL!
I love pansies! Really nice memories of my Dad tied to pansies!🌸
Hope you have better luck next time!

It's been too cold to plant up until now, so I don't think they were sold out, but I don't know. I will revisit in a month. The temperature soared yesterday and today, and tomorrow the forecast is cooler and rainy....yes $14 for parsley is beyond my budget as well, I can buy a seed packet for way less!
Thanks for the comment Marty Rose!

We're in Eastern NC. My hubby went to the local Lowes on April 21. He said there were hardly no veggie plants except for some almost dead ones. We went back the next afternoon and they had a new shipment in. Mostly tomatoes and peppers and a few herbs. A tremendous amount of flowers and empty shelves.
    Thanks for the vids.

Thanks Ce Mitchell for letting us know! Lesson learned is to grow from seeds early. Unfortunately I didn't get my seeds started this year. I just posted a video showing the Lowes in Union New Jersey, they had a terrific selection. My New York location had nothing. Welcome to my channel, I really appreciate the sub!

You have beautiful weather in San Diego, all year round...which may be why you have great inventory. Great weather, great inventory.....I was in San Diego a long time ago, you have a beautiful zoo and we also visited Sea World, and of course, the weather was superb! Thanks for the comment Alexander Monzon!

We are in So Cal and the same here at the homes depot. Didn't check Lowes but we were very surprised they didn't have more yet. Seems like the price at your stores are more than here. I started all my veggies from seeds this year, first time I've done that. Haven't put them in the ground yet. We are having very cool days right now. Happy spring!!

Just the opposite for me, this year I didn't start my plants from seeds like I normally do, so I'm at the mercy of these insane prices! Enjoy the spring when it finally comes, and thanks for the comment Q Moonwalker!

Hi. Tikka. I was thinking of getting the blueberry bush you showed myself. Surprised there were not many seedlings out. The prises are definitely high especially this year.

    • @TikkiOOO

Yes, I'm having sticker shock, especially since I always started my plants from seeds. The blueberry bush looks like a winner, and maybe I'll plant a grape vine. Good luck with your growing, and thanks for the comment Rocky USA!

Our local Lowe's only had 4 racks of veggies but they did have lots of tomatoes, peppers and cold weather crops. They had one side of a rack of herbs but the majority was all kinds of flowers just like in your video. They seemed to be getting more and more mulch, soils and fertilizer instead of plants. Walmart had more variety of trees and shrubs. We're in zone 6b. If you wait too long you'll miss out on any stock they do have so I suggest you go now

Thanks Genevieve, are you on east coast, west coast, or in the middle? Are you suggesting I go back next week and check it out again rather than wait until the end of April/beginning of May?

@@TikkiOOO I'm in WV and people here are really ramping up for the gardening season. I would check again as soon as possible, and if you find someone who actually works in the garden section, ask them when they'll be getting in their plants. It can't hurt. More people are waking up to the fact of the food inflation and are going to try to grow something this year

Every thing in gardening is so high. I make my own potting soil every year buying peat moss and perlite. The price now is triple . At 24 dollars for a bale now which was 11.00usd 3 years ago and perlite is really high. We also have low inventory of plants in our home depot . Our price for those tomatoes are 7.98 heh in south cali

    • @TikkiOOO
      @TikkiOOO  Год назад

So 5.48 is a bargain! Sorry to hear your inventory is low as well, thanks for the comment and good luck with your garden Tonyrayray!
