The last outside zone was a disaster this round. Unanimous complaints from all the drivers, and also using the wrong concrete barriers as James Dean mentioned. The last two years, Formula Drift has turned into a destruction derby instead of what it's meant to be, a contest of skill and precision. Boo-hiss.
In all fairness, Adam was saying in his video that the wall location in OZ4 was the track’s decision, not FD. Same with the type of wall in OZ1, that’s also the track’s decision. As for the destruction derby comment, that’s because the cars are so ridiculously twitchy and hard to drive now due to the crazy tires they run. The only way to truly rectify that would be to reform the current tire size rule to be like one or two sizes down for their given weight, or just have a hard cap at 285, or whatever size.
@@jeremycook5836 I wish all the drivers would just switch to the same tires. It would make all the driving that much better and more competitive. But they can't cause sponsorships...
@@daltoncampbell7579 Well you’re in luck! There is this neat series called ProSpec… In all seriousness tho, I disagree. At the top level competition more tire brands drives a secondary competition amongst themselves which drives innovation - and EVERYONE benefits from that. Seriously, if not for FD, we would not have some of the awesome drift tire compounds we do today available to everyone. Plus a lot of these newer drift tires also make for good track and street tires also. I do stand by my earlier statement about size limits being a potential solution though. Edit: that’s not to mention the amount of tires one company would have to manufacture for the whole series! GT Radial is already fighting for their lives trying to keep up with their Pro/all the Prospec drivers as is lol
In full fairness to FD, they were fighting the stupidity as well. There was a LOT this round that went wrong with track setup, and the final zone was the most obvious. A decreasing radius on an already very tight corner is just not hardly going to work with cars that are this gripped up, and having an extremely treacherous wall exactly where every chase driver who pushes just a little too hard through that decreasing radius is just plain irresponsible.
You've got a lead and a chase car, the lead car is supposed to drive at as much angle, fluidity and be as tight (on inside clips / cones) or as wide (on outside zones, the marked boxes on the outside) as possible while the chase cars job is to match the speed, angle, fluidity and timing of the leading vehicle. If the lead driver makes a mistake the chase driver is obviously IDEALLY not held accountable for that mistake UNLESS the chase driver caused it in some way. The 3 judges can decide between giving one driver the win over the other OR if the match up was basically even or just very good but with equal small mistakes, an OMT (on more time)
I was there and the majorityof the crowd including me were confused saying wtf? when odi lost that battle. Freddy shouldnt have won odi couldve won it man. He was on another level ALL night.
Constructive criticism: Jorod, please fall back to some supporting role, your nonsense is getting on peoples nerves. Maybe start doing the interviews (see below). Please find a way to make the whole event run faster. I dont even watch live anymore, I just wait until its over and then rapid skip to the battles. Some dead time is to be expected but its pretty bad now. Ive been told that the lady that does the interviews in an amazing and lovely lady, I dont doubt it, but having someone with more technical knowledge of cars is going to be able to ask actual relevant questions. As it is she is just providing mediocre filler. I know you guys are doing the best you can with the tracks that will let you hold events, but some backups need to be explored. Bonus points for starting your own track. Call in Chelsea and make a dream layout. Hell, take over an old track and just make changes. Incredibly hard I know, but worthy of trying.
@@formuladrift I disagree with these guys. Jarod is part of the essence of FD USA and an excellent caster, I don't know what they're smoking I can't believe the first guy is complaining about him AND Laurette Nicoll lol
Realistically, I think if the dude would just stop talking during the runs he’d be perfect. He does a great job casting, but I’m trying to watch the cars and hear those not Jarod. Especially when I’m at the track in person. I totally don’t understand why his casting is broadcasted to the grandstands. No other sport or Motorsport does that except for the occasional big moment recap at the most.
@@XJR15ftwI did think he did a great job of communicating well what was going on for new fans. Same with Loretta, for people who are still trying to understand scoring I think they did a great job dissecting and explaining the runs. Only issue I noticed was the speakers went out quite often and we weren’t able to hear what was being said during the pit interviews.
minoa has so much potential.
The more drifting I watch the more I'm amazed! Amazing hands!
