  • This is my cover of The Flashdance Love Theme, an instrumental track featured in the 1983 movie. It was written by Helen St.John and produced by the legend Giorgio Moroder.
    You can watch my instrumental cover of 'What a Feeling' by Irene Cara from the same movie here: • Flashdance (Irene Cara...
    You can watch my instrumental cover of "Lady, Lady, Lady" by Joe Esposito from the same movie, here: • Lady, Lady, Lady - FLA...
    My cover version here was recreated by ear from the ground up, and produced in Cubase 13 Pro.
    Each individual sound is a blend of multiple VST instruments, including 5 digital pianos, 4 bass instruments, 2 pads and 2 pluck sounds playing an arpeggio that runs thoughout.
    I recorded each instrument layer separately (rather than just copying and pasting it) to achieve a less mechanical sound.
    The Flashdance Love Theme is one of my favourite Giorgio Moroder tracks from the 1980s, so I wanted to do it justice.
    Hopefully you enjoy listening and watching as much as I did making it.

      Indeed 👍. Although I don't know how much of the productions he did himself, he was a master of pushing the envelope while respecting the musicality of the song itself... Everything made so much musical sense!
      Big fan 😁.

      If I don't think I can improve upon what's already out there I'll scrap the idea.

    • @juliancroot
      @juliancroot  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you my friend 😁. Maybe I nailed this one because it's slower... Much easier to decipher what's going on under the hood. Although I don't think the arpeggio is quite right in some places, it's good enough I suppose and I'm trying to be a bit quicker, lol.

    • @ge0music307

      @@juliancroot arpeggios must be one of the hardest to recreate by ear, I slow it down to about a quarter of the speed but with that comes distortion. It's probably only you that notices if it's wrong though since you spend so much time listening over and over....

    • @juliancroot
      @juliancroot  8 месяцев назад +1

      @@ge0music307 yep, sometimes you just can't hear exactly what's going on so you have to make a musically informed guess. There's usually a repeating pattern of some sort in each section, so as long as you can hear what's going on somewhere you can figure it out.
      Giorgio Moroder though often seams to use two different arpeggios running side by side... It creates a sort of chasing effect that is very cool but difficult to follow.
      In this track he doesn't do that but the pattern is constantly changing so it messes with your brain! Lol.

    • @ge0music307
      @ge0music307 8 месяцев назад +1

      @juliancroot that's my task today lol, figuring out some string arpeggios for my latest song. They are quite fast so I've worked out as long as I know the starting and finishing note, then follow the key of F major scale in this case, it seems to sound very similar. Hopefully lol.

    Very good. I still can't believe your videos don't get more views. I do recreations also (by ear) and I'm not sure that everyone appreciates the time it takes to deconstruct a track into its constituent parts, chords, melodies, arps/ostinatos, and then the time it takes on top of that to get the sound of each part as close as possible to the original. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks. Yes it's a labour of love , but maybe one day the RUclips gods will shine a light on our content. I just listened to a couple of your tracks and you're doing well....Deer Hunter 👍 and axel f was one of the better versions I've heard. Only Kosmusic's version tops it but he seams to have stopped working on stuff.

  • @vladisgol

    Great. Very similar to the original. If it's not a secret, which instruments are included in the arpeggios (the 3rd second of the video plays 4 tracks)?

    • @juliancroot
      @juliancroot  7 месяцев назад

      Ive used 2 sounds on the arpeggiated part, 1 panned left, the other panned right.
      The left side is a sawtooth oscillator, the right side is square. Both are custom patches I made in Steinberg's Retrologue 2.
      In isolation neither sounds right, but put them together and it creates that spikey sound that still has a soft feel too it.
      I get asked these kind of questions a lot, so I'm hoping to experiment with a new video format where I'll discuss the sounds I've used or created in certain tracks.
      However unfortunately that won't be for a while as I'm currently unable to get to my studio for any length of time, but its something I hope to do as soon as I'm able.

    hi very super every song you do.
    can you make a video about the drums. what kind of vst instruments do you use? maybe what kind of samples?
    And a video about mixing tips
    thanks in advance

    • @juliancroot
      @juliancroot  8 месяцев назад +1

      Drums are always tricky for me. But I mostly use Native Instruments Battery 4 for the samples, and for a lot of projects I try the linn drum kit first.
      I don't know that I could teach drum mixing methods as I don't really have any...I just experiment until I think I've got something close.
      They one tip I do have is probably to mix the snare drum a lot lower than you think. It doesn't need to 'stick out'.
      But even then, if you're doing big trap style music that's probably bad advice! Lol.
      So drums are tricky.
