Your instrumental of What a feeling is the best cover I've ever heard- I would love to re-record a live vocal singing with your backing track- thank you for your consideration 🙏
Absolute masterpiece! Amazing how you found all the sounds and elements to put this piece together so accurately. Interesting to hear this song without vocals... on it's own it sounded like a piece written by Jean Michelle Jarre. Great video too Julian ... only missing the lovable studio assistant this time.
Thank you very much. You're right .. I hadn't made the JMJ connection but now you mention it there are some distinct similarities. 👍 Re my feline assistant... He's having a week off 😁.
I wrote about the previous version that it is better than the original, this one is perfectly refined, you do a very good job and I can see that it gives you a lot of satisfaction. Greetings from Poland
Thank you. I saw your comment and appreciated it. I'm my own worst critic though and there were things I did in the previous version that weren't quite right... So I had to fix it or it would've been on my mind all the time. Lol
que belleza ver decodificado todo lo que hizo Giorgo Moroder pero en ese tiempo fue una aventura exquisita que aun nos deleita en el 2024 gracias Julian por tu excelente trabajo
There's a video on my channel where I talk about the VSTs I use for my 80s covers. The short version here is I use FM8 and Retrologue2 a lot, and I blend lots of sounds together for each part.
For an aspiring musician who'd like to learn to play this type of electronic music as well as you do, would you recommend getting a midi controller + DAW or just start off with a digital piano and forget all about the DAW?
If you want to learn to play piano then absolutely get the piano. I could never live without mine. However its perfectly possible to produce music on the computer without any kind of MIDI controller, it just takes longer and you miss being able to deliver a more musical performance on the keys. The reality is you probably need both at some point, so it just depends whether you want prioritise mixing parts you program in on the DAW, or learn to play an instrument first. Most digital pianos have a USB MIDI output these days, so you can still use it as a MIDI controller, just probably without access to modulation, expression or pitch bend controls. Music production will eat your money very quickly if you get seriously in to it. And its not something you can learn in a week... it takes years, so I'd start out with cheaper equipment and see if its something you want to persue more seriously.
Yeah, I never normally do this intentionally .. It was a mistake after referencing the movie version on an older format that plays at a different speed.
I can picture Jennifer Beals as alex dancing before the university panel of judges...this song in the stage musical Flashdance when alex is dancing before the university panel of judges.

Thanks 👍. Unfortunately I don't remember what I used now, but I do always use many synth layers together to create what I want in a single sound, so its never as simple as saying 'I just used this or that', and its usually a long explanation anyway. Normally, a few days after I release a new cover track, I do a livestream (usually a Friday night UK) for people to ask questions about that release. Maybe that will help in future. Thanks for watching anyway 🙏.
@@Kalamardo2010 my view is that adding the vocal melody using anything other than a real vocal very often makes it sound cheap... I've done it a couple of times but it doesn't usually work.
@@juliancroot I agree totally - just don't do it. Every time I hear someone trying to emulate a vocal melody with an instrument element it's just bad. It's an instrumental, or nothing. Feel free to sing along though (I know I did, badly!) I for one loved hearing this in it's purest instrumental form! (Unabashed Moroder fan talking here). Doubt you'll find anyone like Irene to do the vocals justice anyway!
I'll always remember dicovering this song on the 28th of December 1989 on a Kawai K1 connected to an Atari ST.
I just discovered your channel . immediately subscribed to it. Awesome content.
Thank you, and welcome aboard 👍
Masterpiece. RIP Irene Cara.
Awesome work, sir!

El mejor instrumental cover de What a feeling ❤️
Awesome. 🇵🇭
Brilliant production, you've certainly done it justice. Keep up the air drumming 😀
It's the best kind of drumming 😁. Thanks as always 🙏
This song played a lot in the summer of 1983.
👍❤ Julian, GREAT WORK !! ❤👍
Brilliant Julian - I have mixed Irene Cara vocals = Backing vocals on to your instrumental version sounds great.
A master of covers😊

Thank you. I'm afraid for this track there's already a vocal version in the works, and it'll be exclusive.

Now the song lives on in the musical flashdance..when Alex is dancing before the panel of judges we will remember the late Irene Cara.

Same here also! Try to give us some tips about VST's used on the song :)

Uno de fame de Irene cara
cual es tu DAW ?????
wow, very awesome! I especially like that punchy bass :) I don´t know if some of the subtle arpeggios are in the original, but it´s amazing!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.👍
The arpeggios only feature in the opening bars, and yeah they're in the original.

Its an 'instrumental' cover! 😆
