I was 28 years old when Tesla did this cover. Living with friends. The song came on radio... And when I heard that first chord...I reacted and began singing the song... The teen kids of my house-mates were shocked. They asked..."How the f**k do you know this song?!?! It's only been out a few days!".... I replied... I would have used the opportunity to get kids going when they asked me how i knew it because it only been out a few days. I would have pretended that I wrote the song and been making money off it just to get them going and ask questions and see how far i can get them going 😆 lol
shit it's typical of every generation. Many of the most popular songs of OUR generation were covers, from "Nirvana's" Lake of Fire, "Metallica's" Turn the Page (and Die My Darling), to "Rage's" Ghost of Tom Joad
Sal Paradise I hate to tell you but your wrong. Nirvana did it in 93. Many other bands such as Tesla and Pearl Jam did it way before them. Not saying that Nirvana’s performance wasn’t amazing but they didn’t start the craze lol
There have been many artists who have given "unplugged" performances throughout the years but the whole unplugged craze of the 90s was actually started in 1989 when MTV began the series MTV Unplugged. MTV started the unplugged series after Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora performed an unplugged version of Living on a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive at the MTV Music Awards in 1989. I've heard of the band Tesla, but I knew nothing about you until know. You do this song justice! I was in high school when The Five Man Electrical Band broke this song, and it has always been a favorite of mine. You captured the rebellious nature of this song, with great acoustics and harmonies.
This was playing on my high school age daughter’s radio. I started singing along. She said “Daddy! You like this song?” “Oh yes mija,” I said, “and I loved it twenty years ago too.”

I remember jamming this on the guitar in the hallways of heritage high during the first Gulf conflict. We weren’t protesting the war just playing guitar in the hallways and that was how to get away with it. Fun times.
