I bought an old stainless steel sink from Craigslist and used some
products to refurbish and polish the sink. I will take you through the steps
I used and you see the sink from refurbish to what it looks like after
it was installed. Read more for links to products I used.
You can purchase and find out more about the products I used in this video by using the following links:

Thanks for the video! Still helping out after 6 years! I followed your steps but used Flitz metal polish, since I had a tube. Looks pretty darn good, IMO!

I’m a bit confused on the steps. Would it be possible to type them out? not sure if you use the first grit with the polish on it.

Same sink, when changing out the faucet, I scrubbed it with barkeepers friend, then used Wrights Silver Crème .... it brought it to a Mirror Shine.... Now I'm going to it all over again, starting with that sanding sponge... to get out some minor scratches first....

How hard and what motion did you scrub? I can't get the barkeeper's friend to work for me.

@@bobbrock4221 likewise! In my situation all I had was hard water spots and barkeeper did nothing 😕

@@thekellers5041 I found that you need to scrub with the grain of the metal. You have to be very careful because bkf will damage your sink if you let it sit too long. For the hard water stains I've been using CLR. You let it sit for around 20 seconds or so similar to bkf. It can also damage if you leave on too long and don't wash right.

Before the cleaning begins I always use a product called "CLR". That stands for Calcium, Lime, Rust. It removes all lime and water calcium deposits. Wonderful stuff. Then go ahead and deep clean the metal.

  • @stephendutton1284

Depends on the quality of the stainless steel as to whether that effort is worth it or not... not all stainless steel is the same...

did you use the polish BEFORE you started the sanding? Video does not how. Or are you sanding with just water.

Thanks Jeff. I just started on mine with some skepticism, but now I feel somewhat optimistic. Before I start, did you experience any dead spots on your lawn?

    • @jburckhard
      @jburckhard  7 лет назад

+Timothy Smith sorry for the late reply on the question regarding the lawn. The lawn was fine afterwards there were no dead spots caused by the cleaner. Honestly I never even thought about that :-)

Is it me or did you not show how or when you used the Weiman polish? I saw you wet the sink with a hose and that was it. Please clarify. Thanks.

Thanks for the question. I used the Weiman polish a few times: The first was after I rinsed with the water and before I used the 3M sanding block (I may have sped up the video too much during this part). The second was not filmed--after I installed the sink I used the polish one additional time. Thanks for taking time to watch the video.

Hard to believe this video is almost 4 years old! As I mentioned, this was used when I bought it. Now it's time to buy a new faucet as it is starting to leak. Any recommendations? I need a similar style as the taller ones will not fit with my window ledge that sits above the sink. Please reply if you have a good recommendation. Thanks! Jeff

Jeff Burckhard, I recommend the Flow Faucet by Bio Bidet. It’s a SS touch-less faucet that has great features. We’ve had ours for approximately 1.5 years. Replaced the batteries for the first time a couple of months ago. We liked it so much that we bought one as a Christmas gift for our #2 Daughter. We got ours on sale for around $100.00. The regular price at Home Depot is $229.00 - $269.00, but as I mentioned they do go on sale. It has almost 5K reviews, with close to a 5 star rating!

Jeff, you may want to correct the video title. The correct spelling is “refurbishing”...not “referbishing”. 😉

Hello, without a lot of detail on your situation, you might try baking soda first as a non-toxic option. Baking soda is pretty versatile. Take a small amount, add a little water, use a small brush or Brillo pad on the metal. If you are just on the metal, should not impact the plastic.
