I thought I was the only idiot that did this. I'm glad to know there's at least nine of us. Thanks for the video. I would have never figured it out otherwise.
Glad I wasn't the only one who did this. Quick note, you can also use needle nose pliers to compress the spring and pull it out at the rear of the receiver.
Thank you for this video. I'm sure everyone who has ever removed the extractor to check headspace was baffled when the bolt got stuck. This video is a great service!
I expect a no-go gauge to be delivered today for a Russian captured 98K rifle that I bought a few years ago. I've never fired it yet, because I wanted to double check the headspace first. This video just randomly popped up in my feed. THANK YOU in advance for most likely saving me a great deal of aggravation!
Thanks for the bullschit scare at the beginning ... I thought that I broke my dad's gun! lol and then WEW you said it can actually be fixed. Yep I installed the bolt without the extractor just to see if I had put everything else back together properly after I had disassembled it for a cleaning and oiling, and then I spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to get the bolt back out because it got stuck! Man I was sweating and made up a bullschit story to my dad for why I wasnt done yet with his gun. Now I just have to find some dental floss 😲
Great video, but the way I fixed it, was getting a pair of needle nose pliers and pinching the collar from behind. Took 2 seconds, although your method is safer
Thanks! I had stripped the rifle down by time I found this, including removing trigger & bolt release. Tried the floss but I was all thumbs………but I could see the part and was able to pinch it together with needle nose pliers and slide the bolt out. Optional method for anyone making the same Bonehead mistake.
Dude I can do anything on a gun. But u saved my rear. I popped in another extra bolt I had to see if it fit. And it was missing the extractor. I told my gf I said well babe looks like I'ma have to go to the gun smith n look like a idiot. 😂. Thanks dude for saving me my embarrassment. I will never ever stick a bolt in again wo a extractor
I removed the bolt with it in the fire position and it's not cocked now I can depress the piece to spin the safety off , but it will not rotate and I can't undo what I've done please help me .
There's a video on that now if you haven't figured it out yet, there's a groove on the firing pin striker you put a cartridge case / rim in it and pull back while rotating the safety
It never occured to me to install my bolt WITHOUT the extractor in place. If I ever do, I now know how to get the bolt back out. Why would you do this? I MAY learn something with that answer!
The correct procedure for measuring headspace on a 98 pattern Mauser pattern is to place the bolt in battery with the extractor removed. Not knowing how to work with you firearm under the full range of operating and maintaining conditions is not "smart".
@Triangle 26 where exactly does one find information on ones particular weapon? I have this super old bolt action Remington, I think. The bolt is currently stuck in it, hence my looking up videos. I'm not sure where to find a manual on a 123 y.o. rifle.
So if you need to check headspace , remove the extractor and extractor collar, now you can insert the bolt and do all of your magic and not have dental floss to get it out. Just use a expansion plier or thin needle nose and widen the extractor-colalr lips and pop the collar off the bolt.

One more dumbass checking in
That seems easy enough. My problem was REMOVING the extractor! Thanks Man! I'll remember this.

4 years and you’re still saving people!! THANK YOU!!!

You are most awesome! Thank you for solving an otherwise frustrating situation.

Thank you for this video! Had the same problem but didn't know how to fix it...
God bless you. I was really nervous there for a bit.
U and me both man I thought I done jammed up my Mauser n had to see a gun smith

What do yo do if no extractor collar is removed as well? the bolt wont come out and appreciate any and all help!!!
Another way to do it if you knot challenged, i used your method with a twist, i taped the flaps together then tied the floss on it and it came out.
My extractor is still in place and I have the original problem. Any help?

Very cool.

Checking Headspace is probably the most common, was my brain fart.
Maybe someone might need a new extractor and just wanted to keep the bolt with it until they get the part
Thank you very much for this!a
I cant see the ears on the right
Good 👍👍👍😍🙏
Happend to me a few months ago. Managed to get it out after what seems hours. I used very thin copper wire. Should have searched youtube as usual.
🙄🤔🤣👋 ...
Don' do that to your gun, be smart and don't do that.

Don't fix it?
