@@davidmhead I just told the truth. The tuono was an awesome bike, V4 sound and performance was amazing BUT my very first ride it went into limp mode and when I took it to the dealer under warranty Aprilia would not pay for the repair which just amounted to updating the software and checking the bike over, the dealer ended up eating the cost but it delayed me getting the bike. Also, Aprilia headquarters USA said if I put an exhaust on the bike the warranty will be voided. The bike was still acting like it wanted to go in limp mode on occasion but it never did. Great work you guys do at 44Teeth. So , as I'm looking forward to the 2020 hypernaked model class, I was waiting for the new Duke and the Ducati Streetfighter. For starters, I'm was impressed with the new Duke, but after seeing it live couple of days ago in Berlin's Motorshow, and compared to the Italian Exoticas, it lacks finishing quality at least, not to mention pricing and all the aftermarket stuff you have to add on ( Quickshifter etc.) Also, For some reason it feels cheap compared to Aprilia and Ducati. On the other hand , after seeing the bonkers Ducati Streetfighter in person, it's definitely one of the most beautiful bikes out there, huge wow factor the power / weight ratio, but still noticing the details behind the dash and on the control buttons, it seems like an unfinished project. Not to mention that just an aftermarket exhaust will cost around 4k in €. ( compared to the old all time classic Streetfighter 1098s, this one lacks uniqueness ). Last but not least, the king on modern Hypernakeds, the Aprilia Tuono, which yes it only got some carbon parts and new paint for 2020, yes it might be a 10year old design ( but still an Italian beauty) , yes it still doesn't have led, someone can write no fuel gauge, or reliability issues ( valve check during the big service ), but it's still is the bike to beat. One of the best engines ever built, quality finish in most parts around, sound from another planet, ohlins electronic front and rear, and on fast roads or track, no KTM, no Ducati , no Yamaha will catch up the Thunder, cause Aprilia's frame is far superior than anyone else . That's why the rsv4 is still faster in lap times, that's why the Tuono will be still the king of Hypernakeds. The new s1000r has yet to come, but as the current model, they tried to create a 'German' Tuono, so good luck trying again. And considering the prices of each to reach the standard equipment of the Tuono 1100 factory, for me there's nothing else more valuable out there. Best road bike money can buy as Statham rightly said still on 2020. Taking all this into consideration, I'm ordering the Aprilia Tuono Factory in May, to enjoy the wonderful Summer days in Greece. Having been lucky enough to own the original I’m grateful to still be here. Fab bike, awesome engine, brakes etc but wrapped in a mountain bike chassis that bucks and weaves (even off throttle). Sounds like the newest incarnation addresses a lot of this and I’m stoked as it’s a blast to ride. No offence to SD owners but the MT10 is way better on road, shed loads cheaper and can actually hold a line through a corner.
From no plans to change bikes to picking up a sd1290 in 3 days, 1 km! The rest of the test ride was just a blur filled with giggles, and I,'m used to pretty powerfull 4-cylinder bikes.
After riding Honda Suzuki and Kawasaki. I tried my cousin super duke I never thought one day I will buy a naked bike but the super duke R change my life every time I ride I am happy and smiling it is the best bike I ever own. YES it’s the BEAST!!!!
Do you think 6 months down the line, the extras you need, dealerships will be putting them off as promo freebies, to get that extra sale. Much as they do now. Great review, got to love this channel 💪💪😂😂😂🇬🇧
I've been on an MT-07 for 4 years and it's time for an upgrade. I'm really struggling to choose between the MT-09/SP, MT-10/SP and 1290 Super Duke R. I love the sound of the MT-10 but I know the Super Duke is all around a better bike and I love the lightness/cheapness of the MT-09. I love the look of all three although I'm not a fan of the grey engine/brown exhaust on the Super Duke.
By the way I forgot to mention I’m 65 only have a dirtbike at the time my last bike was an older Yamaha 1100 naked. My first bike was a Rutman minibike then I Honda 50 then a Kawasaki 350 triple in the rest is history started at 10 can’t wait for your next review
I can´t wait till you guys test the Ducati Streetfighter...! All other RUclips channels aren´t that much fun, informative, inspiring etc. to watch! cheers!
I fully agree. The trellis subframe was more sexy. If they wanted to get rid of the trellis, why not add the sexy ass from the RC8R to the superduke ! This subframe isn't sexy at all, who cares it can take the weight of an elephant... The one thing I like more on this iteration is the cockpit buttons, those look very TRON-like :) Also the usable TC sounds a nice to have. I own a 1190 Adventure R , and a 2016 1290 Superduke Special Edition and I NEVER use the TC. In the wet I just drive slower :) ( very nice review by the way, as always 44Teeth )
@@Nerezza1 yep it all comes to production cost, they are reducing factory costs and increasing the price, and theu always use the same excuse "hummmm electronics" FUCK ELECTORNICS, these bikes now cost the same as a car, 20k, and last time i checked a 20k car as like 10x more electronics than these bikes. KTM got fucking greedy, period.
I’m in the market for a super naked so far it’s between Superduke R Speed triple RS and Aprilla Tuono. Anyone have any suggestions? Greatly appreciated!
Jordy Garrido: Good neck muscles SDR, smiles for miles. Race bike with slightly upright bars Tuono and a even better taller screen. Some nice double bubble, ones out there. I came from SDR MK2 to a Tuono. So just my take on it💪💪👍
Great bike. Shame that the quickshifter, MSR and track mode software needs you to buy an unlock code for something like £600. I'm not spending £15,000 on a bike that has the electronics locked behind a paywall and doesn't come with heated grips either. I also don't know why they need 10 different buttons for the dash when a simple joystick would work just as well. And the bezel on the dash is enormousness and the speedo is massive which both make it look tacky and it's got that asymmetrical bump on top. I much preferred the 2017 dash.
Euro 5 is basically coming in two stages, 5.1 then 5.2. KTM have complied with 5.1 which is the emissions etc. 5.2 is as you say the data logging when the bikes come in to the dealer for a service or whatever and gets plugged in with the diagnostics tool and KTM takes info from that for various reasons.
KTM Hype machine at work here - lavishing out on press releases in sunny climes. Read the forums and online reviews to get a true feel for KTM as both a product and a company. 44 Teeth is a great production effort, but you shouldn't use it as brand endorsement, because the reality of ownership for many ain't so glitzy. Factor in some balance by broadcasting issues people have with product and company - maybe then KTM might take some notice, rather than ignore/deny/refuse.
Opened 1290 Super Duke R 2022 forks yesterday to swap springs for higher rate as front was bottoming to hydrostop often and sag was 50mm with +3 preload. Stock springs are progressive (read fucked up badly), strange shape and 9.0N/mm rated (weak). Swapped stock unreasonable springs with linear (good) k-tech 10.0 N/mm springs. With no spring and ventilation bolt on fork cap opened to eliminate air spring intervention measured hard bottom as 19mm from axle casting to bottom of dust seal. Some resistance starts from around 25mm from axle casting - probably hydro stops of some sort. Topout springs start engaging at 130mm from axle casting to bottom of the dust seal and fork is completely extended at 160mm (requires too much of force to extend (compress topouts completely)). So if WP/KTM would to all calculation right front total travel would be 141mm before it would hit hard bottom - that would be very nice, but no... Stock oil level - 70mm which is very high (read fucked up oil level). Changed oil level to 100mm. Springs to linear k-tech 10N/mm. Vented the forks with topouts compressed (fork forcefully extended to the max. This reduces cavitation a bit + more air spring) set +3mm on preload adjuster. With front wheel installed and in the air - 150mm from axle casting to bottom of dust seal, static sag 29mm rider sag 41mm (87kg rider weight in gear). This allows for 131mm fork travel from where wheel hanging on topouts to hard bottom, or 125mm to hydro stop (5mm improvement to stock setup on travel). Stoppie test is good with no bottoming and not reaching hydro stops (gradual and controlled front dive through the stroke on braking). Now forks feel much better in all aspects. Forks position have to be adjusted to compensate for higher riding front indue to sag change (set to your likening and based on shock spring and preload). Compression and rebound - start at 11 for both and go up/down from there. Conclusion - stock fork springs are progressive and way too soft for riding with this fast heavy motorcycle. Stock oil level is way too high. Those two aspects reduce reasonable usable fork travel to unreasonable and low level. At descending tight turns over bumps at high speed stock fork setup was packing and deflecting - dangerous (all chances to loose front) even with +3 preload. Cure for that is to speedup rebound but that was creating all sorts of other issues. Cure for forks is 10N/mm linear springs and 100mm oil level. However for track use linear 11N/mm springs and maybe lower oil level could be better option. Above description can be used as instruction on how to un-fuck front suspension on 1290 Super Duke R 2020 to 2022 (Sarcastic joke: and as a sentence to hang those who made decision on soft progressive front suspension springs and high stock oil level at KTM or/and WP by their balls and beat them gently with those soft progressive 9.0N/mm springs), as forks setup goes they sell stock bike which is is not just unseasonable but (sadly not a joke) actually dangerous to ride on the road in some conditions. Person who decided on toptout spring length and rate (joke: deserves some minor spanking for unreasonable and unnecessary fork travel loss. Same spanking applies to person who designed or/and approved unreasonable for bike of this type spring preload adjusters in both range and steps terms). Above story does not apply to EVO models because I had no chance to test those and I could not care less about semi-active suspension marketing. Thank you for reading, I hope it was helpful. P.S. 114 links chain and 17T/40T sprocket combination seems to bring a bit more fun than stock 17T/38T combination.
I think there us something special in the DNA of KTM bikes. I have a 2007 950 supermoto, I love it and have no desire to upgrade because the bike they made is so bloody good. This new SD is a belter though.
I got the 2020 one and it dont wheelie like they can, may be to do with my suspension setup as im a light weight and have little preload on but not sure why my one wont go up, only 1st gear will do it and 2nd gear is where its at for others, let me know if anyone has any ideas, the bike is in track mode with anti wheelie off by the way, thanks for a great vlog letting us see what this bike can do guys
I remember a few years back when you did the launch of the MT10SP and i loved how much fun you said it was, a year on in 2018 i got my own MT10SP and love every second of it, not cause its the fastest, not because it has the best lap times but because its just fun, i find myself laughing and giggling like a school girl all the time and i can see haw this new Super Duke R is the same thing. If i'm concidering upgrading my bike this will now be on the list for sure. Great review guys ;)
I had the mk1 1290 and thought it sucked ass after getting used to torque tank slipper out of every corner and that’s road use Would you say it’s a big step up compared to the mk1
The Ducati Monster inspired header looks great and I absolutely love that stupidly huge high torque V-twin engine. Something about that UI on the screen with that absurdly large speedo though, it just doesn’t work for me. No its not a dealbreaker but an odd design choice, seems quite out of place on a bike like this. The speed on my bike is like 1/3 the size and I never felt it was hard to read. Also miss the old trellis front and rear frames which looked much more “exotic”, but also not a dealbreaker. Can’t wait to demo ride myself.
Another great review from you guys and thanks for the answers on the electronic questions on the minds of most possible purchasers in the simplicity of the new settings and no more having to reset the modes or buy a dongle 😍thanks fellas
Is it too much bike for the road though? Would something like a Street triple RS be more fun because it's lighter and you can use it to a larger extent than you can with this bike?
I dont think anyone can deny it looks great and will be fun to ride. But where I see ktm let themselves down are in smaller details. Like did they ever fix the bearing issue in rear wheel that plagued so many. After spending 16k you can understand why people were pissed off.
Looking back at this video a bit down the line, I bought a 2020 1290 SDGT, not even the R, coming from an S1000XR i was like "it can't be THAT powerful" Then the wheel came up in 4th at a 110...
I have the 2017 gen 2 with full akra, lots of carbon after having had the 2015 model but this new one i just don't like the looks, that plastic round the tank, no trellis, the seat so won't be changing this time maybe gen 4 will do it for me.

Dave P prudent buyers always wait for deals - I got a smoking deal on my 2019 SD buying it at the end of the season. 0% financing too
The sexiest beast on the road.
Fagan or the KTM?
@@6ynessxD Both😍😍
The two of you have progressed into the best motorcycle RUclips show. How does the KTM compare to the Ducati Street Fighter?
Why is it that every time I see a video about the Super Duke, the front end is hanging in the air?
"The Church of Braaap!" I'm quite religious when it comes to the SDR, as well ;P At 11:50, what a VIEW!
All other RUclips channels aren´t that much fun, informative, inspiring etc. to watch! cheers!
i aim for this. replacement for my aging 990 duke.
Damn I miss mine so much!
The exposed trellis subframe was a defining feature of the old model. Shame it’s gone
agree with this.
I fully agree. The trellis subframe was more sexy. If they wanted to get rid of the trellis, why not add the sexy ass from the RC8R to the superduke ! This subframe isn't sexy at all, who cares it can take the weight of an elephant... The one thing I like more on this iteration is the cockpit buttons, those look very TRON-like :)
Also the usable TC sounds a nice to have. I own a 1190 Adventure R , and a 2016 1290 Superduke Special Edition and I NEVER use the TC. In the wet I just drive slower :)
( very nice review by the way, as always 44Teeth )
The 790 Duke sorta is to blame for this. They realised they could make a simpler steel frame with a cheap and light cast aluminium subframe.
Honestly this one looks better! Minimal and classy in my opinion
So which would you have, the 2020 KTM Super Duke or the 2020 Ducati Streetfighter V4S?
Statham, what's your take on this?
This is the conundrum!
I understand why the changed the trellis subframe but I think the old rear definitely looked better
You boys look like you had a disgusting amount of fun there. Excuse me while I look out the window and behold a cold, windy, rainy day in Holland.
Maybe you should make a video about this bike and show everyone how it’s done!! 🙄
is that boothie at Fastbikes at 23:05 you passed?
Aprilia bases the Tuono on their hypersport because they *have* a brilliant hypersport
@Bernd DasBrot haven't tried the "beast" yet but coming from triumph nakeds the the tuono is way better bike imo
Bernd DasBrot It’s a great road bike if you have great roads.
26:44 is that really true?? I heard that C1 and C2 only brings you to your favourite setting. But doesn't save a specific setup!?!?
Id love to see a 1290r superduke cup in the bsb series, would be great to watch
The frame reminds me so much of RC8's frame.
When are you getting to review the new ktm 890 duke r?
I got the 2020 one and it dont wheelie like they can, may be to do with my suspension setup as im a light weight and have little preload on but not sure why my one wont go up, only 1st gear will do it and 2nd gear is where its at for others, let me know if anyone has any ideas, the bike is in track mode with anti wheelie off by the way, thanks for a great vlog letting us see what this bike can do guys
I remember a few years back when you did the launch of the MT10SP and i loved how much fun you said it was, a year on in 2018 i got my own MT10SP and love every second of it, not cause its the fastest, not because it has the best lap times but because its just fun, i find myself laughing and giggling like a school girl all the time and i can see haw this new Super
Duke R is the same thing. If i'm concidering upgrading my bike this will now be on the list for sure. Great review guys ;)
Stick with the MT10, at least you know it will start in the morning!
that exhaust config is masterful
I had the mk1 1290 and thought it sucked ass after getting used to torque tank slipper out of every corner and that’s road use
Would you say it’s a big step up compared to the mk1
I rode both, new one is massively better. Totally different bike, better in every way and even more fun.
Another great review. This is my grail bike and someday, someday it will be mine.
Al, who designs your leathers, Ru Paul?
Not sure about the huge looking tank but the black one looks fantastic with the orange frame. Fancy it though
Huge tank is necessary to support the huge balls of the lucky riders! :)
that HP4 Race in the background is so distracting
Is it too much bike for the road though? Would something like a Street triple RS be more fun because it's lighter and you can use it to a larger extent than you can with this bike?
No
Hp 4 race is still gorgeous 😍
With a full exhaust system and flash its near if not 190 rwhp. The perfect second bike if you can afford it. Ksenia where are you? 🇨🇦🇨🇦
I love superduke. But didn't you guys think this bike a bit too small?
Super Naked shoot out this year 🔥
I dont think anyone can deny it looks great and will be fun to ride. But where I see ktm let themselves down are in smaller details. Like did they ever fix the bearing issue in rear wheel that plagued so many. After spending 16k you can understand why people were pissed off.
I have superduke 990,and in corners I am fighting with front end way too much, my hands hurt when i do some nice cornering
"Not so much squat and tug" (Fnarr, fnarr!) - Finbar Saunders.
Why do you drive so fast on the open road?
That sneeze at 7.26 was epic 😂
Can't wait for the release of the new bikes, allready signed up for the new 890R when it launches
Great review. I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these.... A stable mate for the equally bonkers V4S.
👍 thanks top review
Add on cost
Yet the 790 everything is enabled as standard . All depends on the competition price range .
Lomate * it’s KTM! Keep Taking Money for a reason
If I was buying new . I be pointing to the 790 in same showroom to the super duke asking for the same fair treatment/ price or walk away .
mark smith 890 Duke looks like a good buy
KTM finally getting it worked out. I'll stick with my Aprilia, with the correct number of cylinders, and a free up/down quick shifter.
Now that ye have tested the Streetfighter which is best for road thrills...
Looking back at this video a bit down the line, I bought a 2020 1290 SDGT, not even the R, coming from an S1000XR i was like "it can't be THAT powerful" Then the wheel came up in 4th at a 110...
i wonder if next years mike technology will go wireless? i stand corrected that baby must be the 2020 factory racing wireless model he has tho
I love the zero miles per hour up the start straight coz the front wheel was not on the floor
I have the 2017 gen 2 with full akra, lots of carbon after having had the 2015 model but this new one i just don't like the looks, that plastic round the tank, no trellis, the seat so won't be changing this time maybe gen 4 will do it for me.
