Paying for “extras” that are not really extras puts me off the whole brand tbh! It’s like a quick middle finger to the customer as you walk into the showroom… you’re kinda sure you saw them do it, but you second guess yourself.
Ended up buying the Gen3 Evo new after I owned the Gen 1 just before this one came out, 3k (Euro) dealer discount on top of 3k brand discount. Can't say I am regretting it when I compare it to this. Its probably better and more capable, but the one I have now already is really capable. Add to that the horrible front end in my view, I think I'm good for now :)
Soooo many people don't understand this... And it shows how psychologically twisted people are... KTM has the hardware in the bike because it's used for OTHER electronics, they simply make extra software to maximise what the hardware can do, it's in the exact same vein as how phone manufacturers make your phone "better" and do more with existing hardware via software updates... Just for reference honda charges 750 quid for their quick shifter on the CB1000R and 600 quid on the Africa Twin, is that Okay?? you're paying £750 for a £2 switch but because the switch wasn't already on the bike (but the plug in the wiring harness IS) it's all of a sudden okay? Come off it.. It's a dirt cheap bike for what it is and for a single grand you can make it the best value in the category...
@@Jaded-Wanderer Idk, at the end of the day you pay the same as with any other manufacturer, but you have the option to only get what you want and the process of unlocking them is also much less painful than 3hrs labour for honda to take apart your bike so they can connect that 1 plug under the tank..

I got a 2020 1290 GT, and I was very glad that when I wanted the track pack for adjustable wheelie control, slip control, launch control, throttle modes, I could simply ride to KTM, plug it in for 30 mins pay my 300 odd quid and ride away... I don't need Hill hold for 150 or the MSR for 180, already had the quick shifter on the bike, so at the end of the day didn't even need to pay for the full tech pack. I'd rather that than what BMW does, with the non-TE vs TE versions, where even if you change your mind in the future your bike is already locked in. I used to have a 2015 BMW S1000XR that didn't come with the factory DRL but came with everything else fully loaded. I wanted the DRL, asked BMW what's the cost... Well it's 280 for the DRL, 80 for software update to enable it, 160 for new switch gear because the button for it isn't there on mine, and that's "if we can do it still as it's an older bike" No such problems with a KTM with all the hardware already present....

Design language, design ques, visual contrast, finish consistancey, switchgear design consistency, symetre, visual weight of motion, presence, stance, even color to a high degree...just everything. when it comes to bikes.. I've never really cared. I love them all mostly. I mean sure, there are pretty bikes and ugly bikes, I just never cared which one I owned or rode. I'll ride and love any bike that does the thing like things should be done. I've owned 30+ sportbikes over the last 30 years and I've never once put a "tail tidy" on one of my bikes. But, If I'm buying a sports car, I want it to look a specific way. I'm not buying an ugly car, no matter what it offers me otherwise. I'm not sure what my point was.... sorry if you read this whole thing.

better production values don't make better content. sorry, this is the most worn out talking point in the creator space. the magic of RUclips will always be lo-fi, low cost. most of the time it makes the content worse. the more money it costs them the more content they have to put out to stay above the red line and the more ads they have to push. it's as old as business itself; quantity vs quality.

I think while they are pretty good at doing videos, they are quite bad at doing youtube! Try watching a BBB after the fact. They are terrible titled, not good playlists, spread apart. They have good bones, but I think they need some help to really get out there!
I can also imagine their British accent doesn't do well in the US, it's hard to understand to many people. They don't make any effort in articulating their words better, so you really got to want it to hear it.

Sometimes when I see more "behind the scenes" youtube stuff, and they have foriegn people working, I am amazed just how bad the english is. So the argument that brittish is so hard to understand, I just don't get. It is really nothing more than a dialect honestly, and some of the slang is whats makes it extra funny. "Annoying" Understatement. I'm a "function" guy and I love the Duke from a function standpoint, but I still like walking into my garage seeing my bikes and thinking "Wow!" Which I do every time I see my Monster and my Harley sitting next to each other. Neither are ORANGE. Not a fan of the mandibles either.
I owned a 2018 1290R and while it was fun to ride it was an absolute piece of rubbish. It was 18 grand at the time with the build quality of a 4k moped from Piaggio, won’t ever buy another fucking ktm for the life of me.
I've had 5 1290 super dukes 2 gen1's.... 2 gen2's & 1 gen 3 so clearly I love the bike. I think the gen 1 is the best looking but the gen 3 a better road bike by far.....So I've tried the new gen4 & it's absolutely fab......But I won't buy one because of that frigging headlight...it's not really because of the looks or the fact it will be a nightmare to keep clean, but it's the finish & the quality. Run your hand around the back & the sharp plastic edges & quality are not what you expect on a premium bike & even worse it's the same unit on the 990 which is a great road but it kind of cheapens the 1390....Sorry Ktm but I'll be looking elsewhere.

Did they fix the "wobbly tooth" turn signal indicator at least? I see the easy to accidentally and unknowingly activate "+" button (clutch side) and "C" button (brake side) are still there. Ug, it is still keyless.
A bike to ridden best at night so nobody sees it clearly 😄😄 Not one clean line. Sure the styling gets attention but not necessarily for the best reasons. Just for giggles it would be great to see one KTM not is orange or black and styled to match Ducati or MV.
Thats a great video concept, one thing I always missed in the motorcycle space was a Doug Demuro style video, one where you just go over technologies and just interesting features on the bike. Basically showing all the stuff you usually don't immediately see in the first 30 minutes of riding the bike
I'm guessing the engine growing is because the power-babies could never handle a new bike that has less HP then the previous year model. So to increase the power without going against regulation ... means a bigger engine. Fear of lesser spec or something? Or am I completely off?
I had a Ducati Scrambler and now have a Trident, on both bikes the tail tidy really helps the looks. The only downside is a load of spray up my back when it rains so I need to invent a clip-on mudguard like we use on pedal bikes aka ass-savers 🤣

Has a Gen 1 and it the wheels were never in line. Fun to start with then it just got tiring and I bought an MT10 which actually went around corners and was just as fast.
“Everything was very much the same”. To be clear I love the styling of this bike but the stacked central headlight seems to be the new trend. Thinking of the new Suzuki 8S or other bikes of the naked variety at the moment.
Good call on the front end looks. Nothing else looks like this, which is good. I never bought a Honda Fireblade because in the pubs of Streatham and Croydon we all called it the Honda clitoris because every cent had one. Different is good. signed ; a happy gen 2 owner
Something about KTM road bikes that leaves me cold, and the reliability issues that they have with electrics and oil leaks etc, yeah I know the HP/torque figures are great to brag about but on UK roads you cant use it properly, I prefer the middleweight sector now like the Triumph street triple the Yamaha MT09, HP figures that are way more useable but still fun, and if I was doing a trackday I would use an R6/R1which would be much better than the KTM.
@@MrWolf2212 What hype? I speak from experience. I had 690 SMR it had few issues only one that was bad was the clutch slave cylinder fail that left me stranded. My next bike was duke 890 R 2 issues only in 20k + kilometers and many track days. The issues were fork seal leaks and coolant leaks which were fixed under warranty. Now i bought the 1390 , already did 1400 kms on it will see how that goes. Cant say bad word for any of those bikes, all of them were amazing fun. Reliability is important but its not the most important, If the bike is bland and boring whats the point of riding it.
@@ewyna4380 to each his own... Where I live there isn't that many KTM dealers. The closest one is nearly 2 hours away. I like bikes that work most of the time and are trouble free.

Micheal from MCN has got one for his long term test bike this year, it would be great if you three could go out for a ride together and chat bikes sausage together! Really shows that KTM are pushing this bike out to their target market, showing that they really confident in their 1390!
over designed, headlight looks junky, its only 49cc bigger so meh. its heavier than they stated, they lie about hp and weight. still prefer Gen 2, looks, frame, and performance. Gen 2 was simple, very fast, and iconic design. the newer exhaust looks like a cappacino machine or ducati. fugly. A Gen 2 like Chis Fillmore rode / won Pike's Peak on was the iconic Super Duke R.

not the hump on the tank and fairing make the bike look like the hunchback of notre dam. It's ridiculous how massive they made the front end. sleek and stylish is not in KTM's future. And when you do go down because of a soccer mom, im sure the fairings won't fair well.
A point of interest with these increasingly influential 'influencer' bike vlogs like the two dads...sorry....the two 'lads,' here, quipping away about labia and tarts, is that they dont have to live with the consequences. I suspect KTM is quite probably the most unreliable European manufacturer, for example, and many wouldn't take the risk of lashing out £20k when they may well end up getting back home courtesy of the AA. And then there's the orange, as the boys do rightly mention. Not exactly everyones favourite colour, but they dont have a choice. It does help the AA find them on a dark, rainy day, though, I suppose. It's not an easy balance, of course, providing content that is both very entertaining like the Budget Bike Battles, and then also giving an experienced assessment of new machines every few months on road and track. (Though I'm not sure where this video comes in; It's not a review. Yet. An entertaining walkaround talkaround, then? Yeah. ) And possibly only Von Grumble could afford to be the two wheeled Andrew Tate. Still, a question the lads should perhaps sometimes ask is not would, but 'will' you buy one? I'll say this for the Baron though. At least he plants his flag with his dogged GS ownership (he might just be the youngest GS owner in the UK? 😉).
Let's face it..the headlights are the biggest controversy...I personally don't mind the look...Im an old school 63 year old that still loves sportbikes and adrenaline...this one has power...and an upright riding stance for my old back...Sold!

Can't buy KTM here in the US, I mean you can but dealership support is minimal, KTMs have a bad rep for breaking down a lot and the wait on parts I heard is way long. I chose a 2023 MT10 SP for this coming season. Yamaha dealers on every corner in the USA and I never had any Yamaha break down on me.
KTM and DUCATI are following the auto industry, like BMW charging to unlock the seat heater function in some of their new models, outrageous. Their not happy to make a reasonable to good profit, their following the Apple doctrine: Praying at the alter of Greed and Avarice

The color things with bikes is annoying. Triumph has good colors and not a "brand" color, but they don't have thousands of kids riding brightly colored dirt bikes either.

Not enough of an upgrade over the previous version, and its much uglier. Hard to justify an upgrade from the 3.0 EVO for this.

Did they fix the "wobbly tooth" turn signal indicator at least? I see the easy to accidentally and unknowingly activate "+" button (clutch side) and "C" button (brake side) are still there.

the front headlight looks 100 times better and most of all the angle of it, the bike looks proportionate and complete....KTM did a great job
A bike to ridden best at night so nobody sees it clearly 😄😄 Not one clean line. Sure the styling gets attention but not necessarily for the best reasons. Just for giggles it would be great to see one KTM not is orange or black and styled to match Ducati or MV.

Thats a great video concept, one thing I always missed in the motorcycle space was a Doug Demuro style video, one where you just go over technologies and just interesting features on the bike. Basically showing all the stuff you usually don't immediately see in the first 30 minutes of riding the bike

I'm guessing the engine growing is because the power-babies could never handle a new bike that has less HP then the previous year model. So to increase the power without going against regulation ... means a bigger engine. Fear of lesser spec or something? Or am I completely off?

I had a Ducati Scrambler and now have a Trident, on both bikes the tail tidy really helps the looks. The only downside is a load of spray up my back when it rains so I need to invent a clip-on mudguard like we use on pedal bikes aka ass-savers 🤣
Until KTM start taking care of thier customers, and get the software sorted.... I'll pass indefinitely!

Has a Gen 1 and it the wheels were never in line. Fun to start with then it just got tiring and I bought an MT10 which actually went around corners and was just as fast.
“Everything was very much the same”. To be clear I love the styling of this bike but the stacked central headlight seems to be the new trend. Thinking of the new Suzuki 8S or other bikes of the naked variety at the moment.

The 'orange' puts me off buying one.
Something about KTM road bikes that leaves me cold, and the reliability issues that they have with electrics and oil leaks etc, yeah I know the HP/torque figures are great to brag about but on UK roads you cant use it properly, I prefer the middleweight sector now like the Triumph street triple the Yamaha MT09, HP figures that are way more useable but still fun, and if I was doing a trackday I would use an R6/R1which would be much better than the KTM.

@@MrWolf2212 What hype? I speak from experience. I had 690 SMR it had few issues only one that was bad was the clutch slave cylinder fail that left me stranded. My next bike was duke 890 R 2 issues only in 20k + kilometers and many track days. The issues were fork seal leaks and coolant leaks which were fixed under warranty. Now i bought the 1390 , already did 1400 kms on it will see how that goes. Cant say bad word for any of those bikes, all of them were amazing fun. Reliability is important but its not the most important, If the bike is bland and boring whats the point of riding it.
@@ewyna4380 to each his own... Where I live there isn't that many KTM dealers. The closest one is nearly 2 hours away. I like bikes that work most of the time and are trouble free.

over designed, headlight looks junky, its only 49cc bigger so meh. its heavier than they stated, they lie about hp and weight. still prefer Gen 2, looks, frame, and performance. Gen 2 was simple, very fast, and iconic design. the newer exhaust looks like a cappacino machine or ducati. fugly. A Gen 2 like Chis Fillmore rode / won Pike's Peak on was the iconic Super Duke R.

not the hump on the tank and fairing make the bike look like the hunchback of notre dam. It's ridiculous how massive they made the front end. sleek and stylish is not in KTM's future. And when you do go down because of a soccer mom, im sure the fairings won't fair well.
A point of interest with these increasingly influential 'influencer' bike vlogs like the two dads...sorry....the two 'lads,' here, quipping away about labia and tarts, is that they dont have to live with the consequences. I suspect KTM is quite probably the most unreliable European manufacturer, for example, and many wouldn't take the risk of lashing out £20k when they may well end up getting back home courtesy of the AA.
And then there's the orange, as the boys do rightly mention. Not exactly everyones favourite colour, but they dont have a choice. It does help the AA find them on a dark, rainy day, though, I suppose.
It's not an easy balance, of course, providing content that is both very entertaining like the Budget Bike Battles, and then also giving an experienced assessment of new machines every few months on road and track. (Though I'm not sure where this video comes in; It's not a review. Yet. An entertaining walkaround talkaround, then? Yeah. ) And possibly only Von Grumble could afford to be the two wheeled Andrew Tate. Still, a question the lads should perhaps sometimes ask is not would, but 'will' you buy one?

Let's face it..the headlights are the biggest controversy...I personally don't mind the look...Im an old school 63 year old that still loves sportbikes and adrenaline...this one has power...and an upright riding stance for my old back...Sold!

Can't buy KTM here in the US, I mean you can but dealership support is minimal, KTMs have a bad rep for breaking down a lot and the wait on parts I heard is way long. I chose a 2023 MT10 SP for this coming season. Yamaha dealers on every corner in the USA and I never had any Yamaha break down on me.

Two or three colours are generally offered on bikes! They don’t sell enough of each colour to make it economically viable without needed to charge a good bit more!

To be honest no! I just bought the 1290r evo absolutely happy the engine is bullet prof, but ktm should include all the software packages and add all in totall price , put that way easy.😂

Paying to unlock something that is already installed on the bike is shithousery on a grandiose scale from all manufacturer's that do it. I'm surprised there's not a company selling jailbreak type unlock kits to counter this...
The front end gives me Predator vibes and looks menacing. Up charging owners to unlock features already equipped on the bike feels deceptive.
The color things with bikes is annoying. Triumph has good colors and not a "brand" color, but they don't have thousands of kids riding brightly colored dirt bikes either.
Genuinely why do motorcycle brands only offer such limited colours? Then if you wanted to go off and repaint it, I imagine it would significantly reduce the resale value?
