      The jar was kept in a (dark) fridge, and only brought for a few minutes out because I asked about the clione.
      Of course you can argue they would be happier in the ocean, but wouldn't that be the case with all animals (pets!) living in captivity?

      @@WizardOfOss Not all of them. The common cats and dogs are adapted to live in house, as most of them die in the wild. This only applies to sea animals and exotic animals.

    • @WizardOfOss
      @WizardOfOss  4 года назад +11

      @@typhoonpaws9548 Isn't that even more sad? Whole species that have been domesticated to such an extent that they could hardly even survive in the wild, even if they had the chance?
      Don't get me wrong, you won't hear me say these conditions are anywhere near ideal for the clione. And maybe I should have been more critical back then. But at that moment I was just way too surprised to see these strange little creatures I had never known of before up close.

      @WizardOfOss  8 лет назад +50

      +Minji Kwon , the jar was actually kept in a fridge, and only shown for a few minutes because I asked about the clione. The clione serves as a symbol of Abashiri and you see them depicted all over town, but at the time I didn't know it was an actual living creature, I thought it would be more like some kind of yokai or other fictional creature. It ws only when I asked about it they came up with this jar.
      Of course that leaves the issues of air and filtration, so I don't know how long they will survive.

    Where did you get these? They're so beautiful, and I can't find them anywhere in stores. Also, if you ever do this again, put them in a tank with filtration, cooling, (The water needs to be around 41 degrees Fahrenheit for them to survive) and no decorations or plants. They aren't fish, they're sea slugs. Absolutely incredible!

    • @WizardOfOss
      @WizardOfOss  4 года назад +5

      Sorry, I don't know if you can get them anywhere, these aren't mine. This was at a tourist information center in the city of Abashiri on Hokkaido, Japan. The clione serves as a symbol of the city, and when I asked about it, they came up with this bottle from a fridge. I don't know how long they can survive like this, or where they get those from. I would guess they will have a bigger aquarium with everything they need somewhere behind the scenes. It just doesn't seem practical to me to have to fish them from the sea every few days, especially considering the sea around Abasihiri freezes over in winter: ruclips.net/video/sPpXi8JTAQw/видео.html
