my gripe with this video is the sit bones measurement. 90 degrees torso angle is not the typical riding position, the sit bones are going to be closer together the more you rotate the pelvis forward, resulting in a smaller measurement for saddle width. As long as he's comfortable on it i'm good, but that test is recommending a saddle for leisure city riding instead of proper road riding.
Mate, I had the worst time in a retul adjusted position. mad saddle sores when i increased my average volume from 8 to my current 14-16hs/week. I don't want to be negative on your promo things and, by all means, do your thing, but after I had my fit with James Thomas (yes, the guy in the francis cade videos) I became really comfortable on the bike and am able to push myself harder esp in 12%+ inclines.
i think one of cade's videos has that fitter saying the sit bone saddle width thing is irrelevant. but given a 100% increase in volume, surely some new aches and pains weren't entirely unexpected? what did he change in your fit that helped?
Saddle height and setback. Bar width. Cleat slammed all the way to the back and orthesis for my insoles were the most notable changes. With the exception of a cheap handlebar i had to buy no new parts
I have a narrow ish saddle (shimano griphon pro 142) and we tested a few and came to the conclusion i really have a good saddle for my body (im 190cm tall and very long legged)
I had wider saddles and i literally broke them with my own pedalling movement, Just with The rubbing of my thighs, even though i have a very wide stance
this is a great video and you have a great story. i have been riding 40+ years and you reminded how important a pro bike fit is, i scheduled it the next day and saw improvements right away. I'm not a zwift guy, but excited to see your progress (i was the same, out of shape as a youth, went on to do Ironman). Can't wait to hear your TdF recaps, I'm so sad Roglic isn't there, want him to win so bad! Best of luck, its a great channel
I have had a few 'standard' bike fit sessions, this past year, with a new bike, I had my first bike fit using the ReTul system. The ReTul system was an absolute game-changer. My biggest issue last year was some significant 'hot foot' on longer rides, this is completely gone. Additionally, I do not have any specific post-ride discomfort issues no matter the length of the ride. Highly recommend the ReTul system!
Awesome vid! Keep this type of content coming. A lot of the foundations of cycling are skipped like having a proper fit. I went for a retul fit and afterwards, I no longer had back pain and went from only being able to ride for an hour or two to being able to be in the saddle all day. Also noticed that my efforts in terms of power were improved and more consistent after the fit.
You're so lucky to be able to get this fit and see saddles in stock, I got a romin evo 155m saddle last year and they haven't been restocked since in my country :(
Awesome video!!! The one thing I wish I would've done earlier in my cycling journey is a bike fit. I only did it after almost 4 years of cycling and I immediately beat all my PBs at local climbs. And as feedback; I really enjoyed how you got someone else to do the "serious talk" and you made funny comments like when he asked where's the discomfort? and you say everywhere hahah
I would like to stress that the most important part of a bike fit is often the time spent before actually changing the fit of the bike itslef..really nice to see that in this video, the most important measurements are taken on your body to understand potential asymmetries, unfortunately most of bike fits are software only and fit you inside a predetermined "box" which is deemed optimal for a prototype human being..last but not the least, bike fit should be incremental, with small modifications leading to the optimal position, avoiding the risk of a massive and thus traumatic change in your riding position..great to see all these elements in this video! power should not be massively influence, unless your initial bike fit was total garbage...however, you might feel a better "endurance" as the load should be well balanced between hamstrings and quads..once you find your "optimal" position, you should be able to ride more, so eventually, it is an improvement in performance
Benji this irl content has been fantastic, informative and you’ve really come along cycling wise but will we see an end to the Tudor career or new pcm content soon?
amazing video Benji! Both informative and entertaining. I've been thinking about getting a bikefit as well, might just make that call right now! Have fun riding
Another fully “indoor/zero road” bike fit! With new saddle, footbeds etc. $800usd? I’ve been riding since the late-80s and if I had a dollar for every time I’ve ridden with someone who got a fit and within 2-weeks was fiddling with saddle height/angle; I’d almost have enough to buy a Cervelo :). Benji you should ask some real pros how they REALLY fit…even dudes who set up in wind tunnels carry tools.
Benji, when you went to have the bike fit did the fitter and yourself go out on a ride together so he can see what your like pre-fit. That's the 6 million dollar question.
That was really interesting! Great to do that early on in the journey to avoid injuries :) I wonder though, how often does one have to repeat this to stay on top of it? Once per season or so?
Often wondered if I should have a Retul fit, sounds like its a bit meh, and at £200 for the fit, £125 for the footbeds if needed, and possibly a saddle at £150. From the UK you can have a long weekend in Mallorca for the same money!
Well good vid mate, great narration and you're as wonky as me! No idea you were so tall. Also, without being rude, losing a bit of timber will do you a world of comfort. You cant cheat the physics. Us guys at 100kg sitting on the same mobile carbon vasectomy machine as someone of 50kg.... yeh. It's going to be different.
No adjustments to handlebar width, shifter position, stem length or forward/backwards saddle positioning is interesting, must have been pretty close beforehand
Yeah, shockingly my bike itself was basically on point, without ever adapting anything to the second-hand bike. It's both lucky, and a bit unfortunate for the sake of the video. 😂
I was supposed to do home stretch exercises to get more flexible which would fix that but... I'm not good with homework. 😂 I'll try and get on that soon.
That pillow you sit on the measure how your weight is distributed makes no sense. You aren't in a riding position when you sit on it like that, the angles are completely wrong.
Be very careful about bike fitting/ers, it is a very smudgy grey area in the bike industry. The best way to look at it is, it's a rule of thumb. I have been looked at 4 time and they all got it completely wrong, 100% Fact.

ReTul was trash for me. F'ed up both my knees. Asked the shop about going back and they told me just to email them about my issues.

Any other foundations you'd like me to cover that I haven't?
@@BenjiNaesenTV Feeding would be awesome. That is one thing I struggle with; ensuring that I get the right nutrition while on the bike.
Just like golf club fittings, I love watching these
Benji is doing great. I have not been on Lanterne in some time and all I can say is keep it up!

Good video once again!
Benji you legend!
Awesome benji makes me realise i should get one too, its way more involved than i thought
Wow - your first EVER! First EVER EVER EVER?
Nice video thank you for the insights! Do you mind sharing the stretches you did?
He seemed good fitter
Great video Benji, your wahoo mount is designed to be positioned on the other side of your stem btw 🤗
Can't put it there because my camera mount is in the way. 😄
I am very impressed with your sprint power. I have been riding for a while now and I still don't have it
When does the review of pcm2023 come out

Really interesting to see this.
I go to the fitter once a year to make sure everything is tip top. Wise choice Benji.
Was there any discussion around stem length, handlebar width, handlebar height? Or was it focus solely on seat and pedals?
Nice one Benji 👍
Benji, when you went to have the bike fit did the fitter

They're not cheap, so I'm planning to only do it when I feel like I need it. For example, if I lost a lot of weight, or have discomfort or an injury.
is the BTWIN / TRIBAN now only for the shelf ?
That one's the bike I have in Belgium. This Specialized is currently in UK. 😄
ahahah that belly looking at me from bibs))

£100 - £200 for a whole fit.
Is MAAP kit big in Europe? Nice to see Aussie brands out there!
I love their stuff, wish they'd sponsor my content.
@@BenjiNaesenTV If you do more of this stuff, they just might 😉
I love the current crop of Aus kit companies. MAAP, NeoPro, Black Sheep, Scody... Such good designs.
I'm currently seeing quite a good amount of MAAP on my local roads in Flanders yeah
@@stopbanningmeonets3514 Same actually. Noticed a few MAAPers around Oudenburg last week.
Benji, do you feel the same temptation I do, to purchase a new bike whenever you go into the bike shop? feels like a candy store to me.
They are just too expensive for me to even contemplate it. 😂
@@BenjiNaesenTV 🤣 Same here. I really want to get a cervelo S5, but then I look at the loan on my automobile and I owe less for that 🤦♂️

Béni great your channel came up in my feed. Latern listener since b4 you joined.
This sitbone width stuff is nonsense, you’re not sitting upright on a road bike saddle so your sitbones as measured are nowhere near the saddle.
You are still sitting on your sitbones though, just not at the widest point
Too wide of a saddle is also bad.
i have same footbeds, because i also was a fatass. it sucks for 5-10 hours and then it's top notch and u never want to miss them again 🥰🥰
Ok 2 min in i call bs and not watching 😂😂
Those old cleats were fine....
Haha, someone is getting 'SKINNY' and one day . . . unrecognizable

Fact.
The feet part was interesting (not that I am the type of person to Google "Celebrity Name Feet") and the quick turn around of the custom footbeds.
