This is probably one if not the best bike fit video I have seen (and have seen a lot) simple, straightforward explanations and demonstrations and easy practical steps you can take.
After seeing the hand position at 12:39 and recognizing myself, I went down to the bike, measured bar width (42cm), estimated the required width, and ordered a 38cm bar. Had it delivered and installed yesterday - definitely more comfort to the palms, though I can feel a less stable ride. Will have to get some core strengthening and getting used to them done - but very positive first impressions! Huge thanks for the video and help ❤
I would love to hear more on why the 7 mm saddle width is the point to measure. I have a short nose and regular saddle and the 7mm spot is in different spots, as I’d expect. Are you saying the body naturally finds this spot regardless of saddle type?
I liked the way they use the mark on the saddle to create a uniform point for position, my only question would be can the saddle shape not change that position and therefore move your overall position on the bike, IE is it something to be aware of?
Custom insoles. Many people, including myself, are wearing barefoot shoes to avoid over-supporting the foot which can actually lead to weakness. How does this translate to cycling shoe inserts?
Yes, good point. I’ve never had knee issues using flat pedals whereas I do if my clip-less ones are not set up precisely. I always use ones with the most float and this definitely helps.
@@mariog4707 yes , we love flat pedals. We often actually prescribe flat pedals to people with alignment issues. No loss of power also and you will learn to pedal properly. Whats not to love!
I've tried a few models, and found the Giro Rumble good for wider feet (especially with bunions!). I've got a very old pair of heat molded insoles (37 years old), so where can I find new ones... Ski shops, shoe shops? Lastly, if you can't get your hands on a laser level, is it better to measure with a tape measure directly to the 7cm point - can't see how that laser trick would work for hiring situations.
you dont actually need a laser. just measure to the floor to the bb and deduct the figure, then measure from a wall to the bb and deduct that. we did a video about this on our own channel. Just search for " dont measure your bike, measure your position." Good luck.
@@leeaprescott Don't know why this didn't occur to me. I'll check your channel out, presumably there's something on measuring the set back too. Thanks.
Feels like I’m sitting on the saddle with uneven sit bones. My left sit bone is taking most of the pressure than the right in the saddle. I’ve tried rotating the hips forward, seems to help with the even-ness, but still seems off. Thankfully no saddle sores. Anyone have this situation or have guidance?
I still not understand how far I have to set saddle from stem, why always set 7cm under seat tube and why use 70cm system? Is it system for all people?
All very well saying make sure the bike fits you but if you can't get to or don't have a bike fitter local and you rely on the sizing charts that vary from brand to brand, then what? Even worse if you are between size S and size M. It's time the companies had an international sizing chart.
We chatted about this and well be doing another video on choosing the right size bike a lot, as I get a lot of questions on this topic. It's certainly not easy sometimes
8:39 I've seen so many profesionals show how to sit on a bicycle saddle using a skeleton piece like that, and to them it probably makes sense. But to me, a person who hasn't cut up a human before, it doesn't make much sense to see how I should be sitting, specifically in what angle. I don't know in what exact angle my skeleton looks like when I'm sitting, or standing or whatever. So when you tell me to "not sit like that", I can't picture what "that" looks like in real life. I can't see my skeleton to compare. (yes, I know *roughly* the angle, but here we're talking like 3 degrees matter a lot. So no, I don't know how my skeleton looks like when I'm sitting on the saddle.)...
Ok but widths are a problem as there are very few brands making a Wide. A specialized regular are a Shimano Wide. those Lakes CX330 are absolute garbage, after 30,000 kms wearing leather Lakes, 2014-2020, the new generation are more synthetic do not breathe and cook the foot. So top leather with a synthetic heat trapping plastic and no ventilation holes. And heavy as heavens… Went for specialized and beat any PR any lake ever provided. So if you buy that Lake the feet will suffer. saddle wise, the rails got shorter and many bikes ship with 15 mm offsets. So limitations in saddle choices. Good staddle check tip.

@@bugeyesprite119 Because click bait titles drive me crazy. No tips are going to CHANGE EVERYTHING. That is just ridiculous. Sure they can be helpful but change everything, nope. @@edhill8568 buddy sorry but you are being extremely unfair here. I am watching ‘tons of cycling videos’ also and David’s channel is surely one of the most honest and informative. Why you are extremely unfair? Because 1. You immediately dismissed it without even watching it (and you changed your mind after watching it) and 2. Because you are misinforming other viewers by saying things they are not mentioned on the video title. We (the viewers) need to criticise content but also need to be fair and careful of our comments as they might influence others. Hope you get that…

100% the most understandable bike fit video I've seen. Thanks for talking to me like a human! 👏

This guy was excellent at explaining this whole area- I’ve shared the video with my mate who has neck issues- thank you 🙏🏻
Thanks for sharing! Really pleased to finally be able to bring Lee’s insights and experience onto the channel

Excellent video, at last explained simply and easy to apply in practice.
Very informative and helpful, thank you.
Really the best bike fit video
This is great value video!!Every cyclist should watch this video!
Excellent,not click bait
Thanks for the video, some things to check in there for sure 👍
Really appreciated the 7cm saddle width point of measure, thank you 👍😅
Watch out for the different lasts on Lake shoes. I needed shoe plates to pull my cleats back.
Excellent and informative video David!
Great video. And great campy 11 speed Super Record rim gen 1 on that bike sir!
David.... Very much useful. Thanks.
What an amazing video....PLEASE do more of these....
Glad you enjoyed it, and we plan to do more don't you worry. Any topic requests?

Gonna look at my 7 cm fit right now, i always just used the saddle tip. Later... I discovered a 10mm offset (from the tip) from one saddle to another
Excellent video!

Brilliant thanks you
I wonder what tge stats are regarding flat peddals? I imagine that the freedom of movement and the variability of positions reduce injury and stress.

How do you accurately take XY measurements if you don’t have a laser coming off the BB?
Use a spirit level. A plumb line too for vertical measurements.

That’s completely incorrect. Lake still offers their classic Kangaroo leather in a number of their models.
