    Congrats good video! We produce only for Europe market by no tyre rubber mulch and at the moment after 10 years from the installation it has the same shape and the same original brown color.
    Only at first, after one year, the customer had to increase the thickness around four cm because he had used few and some weeds had spilled. since then it's still ok!

    Nice video thanks. Just wanted to share I also use the red rubber mulch mine is more coarse little chunks compared to shredded. I have had it down for 5-6 years holding up great no color loss purchased at home depot. when I purchased a couple extra bags over the years there was a slight color difference but average person would not notice. I think it is great because you do not need to replace every couple of years and it does not break down into soil on top of your weed block and allow weeds to grow on top. one other note on really hot days you may smell little rubber odor but nothing to worry about. go for it!

    • @MB-yw6rd
      @MB-yw6rd  4 года назад +1

      This is our primary "small bed" mulch, mostly on the front of the house. We use standard mulch for the "big" beds, lol. I can see on maybe really hot days you could get that smell but based on where we have it can't say that I have ever noticed. We buy ours through BJ's chain which is like a Costco or Sam's Club which if where I get the Rubberific brand. I found it has the best reviews for the real shredded look. I think HD carries the Vigoro brand which did have that more chunky consistency. As long as the color stays, both are great!

    Great video. I have the same rubber mulch. How do you clean the dirt and grass clippings from your mulch bed. I’ve seen people use a blower, but I wanted to get your thoughts.

    • @MB-yw6rd
      @MB-yw6rd  5 лет назад +1

      I will use a blower on a very low setting for clippings but need to be careful so I don't blow the mulch everywhere. A light soak with the hose helps with the dirt build up but honestly, the rain tends to do most of the work. Thanks for watching and the comment!

    Hi. Thanks for the video. I think I saw that you had rubber much around your roses, did you notice any negative affect? Like poor water drainage, chemical leaking onto the plant, etc?

    • @MB-yw6rd
      @MB-yw6rd  4 года назад +1

      The roses seem to do pretty well, I have three double knockout bushes and the two bushes to the right perform very well and the one on the left seems to be a runt. Wife and I think it's because of the azalea bush right next to it but don't know for certain. The only thing we do is Preen and spread Milorganite, that seems to keep them in good shape. Last couple years the gypsy moth caterpillars have gone crazy but I think we're past the main cycle now.

  • @sandycruz952
    @sandycruz952 4 года назад +2

    Do you have issues with it blowing away in the wind and therefore spreading in your lawn? I switch to rubber last year and I'm happy with it but I regularly find pieces in my walkways and driveway. Not sure if mine is piled too high since I lay it down on top of my existing wood mulch. Thanks!

    • @MB-yw6rd
      @MB-yw6rd  4 года назад +2

      Sandy Cruz Hi! Generally, no. I have about a 2 inch layer and it seems to do fine in the weather. I have had issues with landscapers blowing it off when doing Spring and Fall cleanup. This stuff doesn’t lock and mat together like traditional wood mulch

    Have you had any issues with the shredded rubber mulch blowing away into the yard or sidewalk during storms or even with a blower? One place I spoke with said that the shredded rubber mulch is easier to be blown away than nugget rubber mulch. I just wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks.

    • @MB-yw6rd
      @MB-yw6rd  2 года назад

      Not during storms but leaf blowing can be a pain if the landscaper is not careful. I agree that shredded is easier to blow around than nugget

    Any negatives to using rubber mulch that you've noticed? Is there any chemical smell when it sits under the hot sun, how is it at suppressing weeds etc? Thanks

    • @MB-yw6rd
      @MB-yw6rd  5 лет назад +3

      #1 negative is cost! It’s not cheap ☹️
      However, the thought is that you don’t need to replace it every other year so longer term it’s a wash.
      Zero smell, and it gets a ton of sun in the front of the house.
      We use Preen on all our beds, both rubber and conventional and the combination makes for excellent weed suppression. I can’t comment on it’s weed suppression all by itself, sorry!

  • @lorriedinwiddie5723
    @lorriedinwiddie5723 3 года назад +1

    This may sound like a stupid question but here goes, when you put the Preen down, do you just sprinkle it on top of the rubber mulch? I'm a new gardener by the way, I have lots to learn.

    • @MB-yw6rd
      @MB-yw6rd  3 года назад

      Lorrie Dinwiddie Not stupid at all! Yes, sprinkle it on, need to stay away from small sprouts though. Once you put it down it needs to be watered in, so we just time it with rainfall which obviously works well in the Spring! Another thing we did was start with the jug size and when that was empty bought the larger bag and just refilled the jug. Never did the math but assumed it was more economical lol.
