Looks great! Just placed an order for these materials all from one company so they could just deliver on pallet. For us in Florida we decided to go with a 6” barrier to allow easier maintenance with weed trimmer around the barrier and hopefully keeping out the grass and other debris, and to keep that expensive mulch inside
I wish I had ordered it by the pallet! We are in FL too.

A pallet usually comes with 50 bags and you get "bulk pricing", I work at Home Depot.

Thanks for answering so many questions unlike other videos! Especially about the odor. One more Q: does the mulch have the tire rebars ground up in it that poke through or injure the kids while playing on it? I’m curious whether it’s softer on bare skin than wood mulch is. 🙏🏻
So I did hear that was a problem in the past but we have not experienced that. My son has played barefoot on the rubber mulch with no issues. I do remember the bags we got (from Home Depot) had some kind of “kid safety” or “playground safety” approval stamp on them. Id recommend looking for the bags that have that advertised on them.
Did you end up using the complete 100 ft weed control fabric? And also with the no dig edge kit 20ft did one complete this look or did you purchase longer edge? Hope I'm making sense I'm trying to do it myself and not go the super expensive route
The 20ft edge was enough and I didn't need extra. I ended up being a little short with the weed fabric and ended up using a few of the empty mulch bags in the corner as a weed barrier.
Love it! Nice video. Looks great when done. Just reading up on the rubber mulch cuz I saw some at my local landscape supplier and seems to be the answer to my fustration with the wood mulch loosing its color and seeming to disappear every year. Sounds more expensive, but worth it for lasting results.
Hi! Yes it was more expensive. I am hoping that the price will be worth it since it won't break down over time and need to be replaced like regular organic mulch :)
Hi! Any idea how deep your mulch is? Trying to get an idea for a play space that needs 3 inches of soft landing area and curious what yours ended up being? :) thanks!!
I would say mine is 3inches deep. It definitely takes more bags than I thought it would :)
So helpful! How do you feel about the height of the no dig edging? Too short? Does the mulch come out often?
We really haven't had any issues with mulch coming out of the edging. The grass against it has grown about the same height as the edging though so if I did it again, I probably would look for edging that was maybe 1inch higher.

Hi! It's holding up great and we have no complaints. The only thing I would do differently is add a couple more bags. It has seemed to settle just a bit and there were some bare spots under the swings from my son playing so I ended up adding a couple more bags recently. Other than that, super happy!!

Hi Ashley, just wanted to do a follow up on this, since you installed the rubber mulch have you noticed if it left any stains?
We have not had any staining to the playground, toys, or my son's clothes. There has been no stain/color run-off when it rains either.
5 months later....how has the weed control held up? In particular, along the edges?
The weed control fabric has worked 100% without a single weed growing through or between the fabric. I had overlapped the fabric pieces when laying it and so far, nothing has grown between those seams. On the edges of the mulch we have to use a weedeater where our grass grows tall along the edging.
Trying to get rid of that grass is a giant painnnnn. Did the grass and weeds die under the weed barrier and mulch?
Yes, it died and has not broke through the barrier. It’s been 6+ months and we’ve had zero issues.
I use weed block then put down shower curtains to cover that in my flowers beds and I haven’t had any issues. I’m going to try that theory out in the playground area I’m doing next.

It was bought 4 years ago and I think it was actually just from Walmart online.
How does it feel in summer heat? Doesn’t burn kiddos bare feet?
No, not at all. We live in FL and haven't had any issues with it hot at all.
Can you spray it with mulch glue to keep it in place?
Edit: Yes, they have "rubber mulch glue".
Absolutely! I've seen that stuff and it would be a great idea to use it!

Does the rubber get smelly on hot days?
Not at all. The first week after we laid it we could smell just a rubber smell but it went away quickly.

Does it turn the toys in your clothes and hands and face black because a teacher was claiming that’s what happened to the kids when she put that rubber mulch on the playground
It hasn’t at all. We’ve been barefoot too and it doesn’t turn our feet black.
I hate the fact that they are selling this for childrens playground in the US. they are banning this in europe because reused rubber has to many connections to cancer cases.
