    Does the 1x4 overlap on the beadboard or is it placed directly above the beadboard?

    • @mrsashleyfrench
      @mrsashleyfrench 10 часов назад

      So I have done this same beadboard accent wall a couple times over the years and typically I just place the 1x4 right on top/above the beadboard and then caulk the seam between them. This particular wall that I made the video with, we actually used a router table and routed out a small channel/groove on the back of the 1x4 so that it would sit slightly flush over the beadboard a hair. It is not necessary at all to do it this way and I didn't include it in the video because I thought it was a little advance and most people don't have a router.

    How easy is it to remove with the nails in place?

    • @mrsashleyfrench
      @mrsashleyfrench 3 дня назад

      If you mean, how easy is it to pull the boards off the wall, if you haven't caulked the edges you can just give the boards a really good tug and you'll be able to pull them off the wall. If you have caulked the edges, then you would want to use a carpet knife to cut between the caulk and wall and then pull the boards off. I like to use a trim puller also to pull the boards off.

    • @luke50469
      @luke50469 3 дня назад

      @mrsashleyfrench awesome thank you. Great video by the way. I ask because my wife and I live in an apartment and we have a baby on the way and I would like to do this in the nursery so I wanted to see if it was easily removed (renter friendly)

    • @mrsashleyfrench
      @mrsashleyfrench 3 дня назад

      @@luke50469 If you are renting, I would just skip the caulking where the boards meet the wall. Then the boards will pull off pretty easily and you'll only be left with tiny holes in the wall from the brad nails that can be filled with nail hole filler or maybe even just paint.

    A good tip, instead of using tape to remove lint from a roller. Give it a wash and scrub with your finger nails, also leave the roller slightly damp. This will aid in making the roller absorb paint easier as opposed to using a dry roller.

    You already had 1x6 as the floor trim and 1x4 cased widows without a sill. Most retrofits will need to deal with replacing/ retrofitting these which will be a big job. You probably should have pointed this out.

      I added both the baseboards and window trim myself, however neither are needed to accomplish this accent wall. This accent wall can be done exactly the same without adding either of those. People can do this right on their existing baseboards. If you were a follower of mine, you would have seen that I have shared a tutorial on how to add this and keep your existing baseboards.

    Hi Ashley I just bought the materials to install this board and batten . I love the style you created very much! I’m not a DIYer by all means, but I’m willing to try. This will be installed in my front entry. The wall is 9 ft wide by 10 ft tall. Using the inch calculator, it states that if I want 4 , the width should be 20 1/4 inches. I’m wondering if the top boxes should be that size box, or if it would look better if it was a bit narrower. What are the measurements you have for the top boxes? What is a good rule of thumb for the top box measurements? New subscriber. Love your channel Tfs

    • @mrsashleyfrench
      @mrsashleyfrench 17 дней назад

      So the top boxes should be the same width as the bottom boxes, that way the vertical boards on the bottom line up with the vertical boards on the top, but the top boxes will be smaller in height than the bottom.

      I cut in only once and make sure to do a thick coat on the cutting in that would be equivalent to if I had done two coats of cutting in. So I cut in just once, then I roll on two coats.

    Are you punching nails into wood behind the wall?

    • @mrsashleyfrench
      @mrsashleyfrench 28 дней назад

      Not all the nails in the vertical boards will hit a wood stub behind the drywall since the studs are spaced 16" apart and my vertical boards don't line up perfectly with the studs. But you don't need to hit a stud. In the video I show how I angle my nail gun a bit and shoot the nails in a bit at an angle to create an X which tightly hugs the boards to the wall. A 2" brad nail is sufficient to hold these kinds of boards to the wall without hitting a stud.

      Yes, most table saws have the ability to move the saw blade and do a beveled cut. I would only do this if you need a beveled but along the edge of a long sheet of wood like plywood. I wouldn't use a table saw for smaller boards.
