Thanks for putting these videos out. I run an in-home daycare in VA. I'm limited to 4 children, so my budget is very small. I'm trying to incorporate more Montessori and Waldorf environments, which uses natural materials. I'm concerned with plastic borders cracking and chipping or breaking in the temperature changes of VA. With the treated wood borders, the kids can use those as balance beams too. I think asetically natural wood will look better in our country setting. Again, thanks for your opinions.
The only place a removed it is where the playset contacts the ground. On the remainder of the area I just put the heavy geotextile fabric on top! It seemed to work well for me and I haven't had any issues! Thanks for stopping by!
Hi, thanks for both your videos- really good review. My question is how i would go ahead to ensure the structure is level. I am planning on putting it on a slightly sloped part of the yard. Thanks
Do by chance have a link for the liner you used? Planning on doing the same thing but want to make sure I get a thick enough one. Did you nail it to the sides of the woods almost creating a bowl? Not sure if you have a video on how you built the area Edit I actually found the liner but still am curious about the build of the border itself
Check out the description for links on the geotextile. For how ininstalled it, it ran it up to the outside border and tucked it under the edge. I hope this helps and thanks for stoppinf in
Good evening Sir, it is nice that spring as landed 👍 Great product Rubber mulch base 👍🧐 Great Review on your playset 👍😉 Have a great week Sir Cheers 🍻😉👍
Hello, thanks for sharing this info. Did you remove the grass from under the play area or is that not necessary? We just bough the exact same set from Costco and are about to install it in a couple of days. Also, what are the dimensions of the play area that you bordered with 4x6? Thanks!
I removed the grass from the specific areas that the playset touches the ground. The remainder was left under the geotextile. The 4x6 area is 24' x 28' which is slightly smaller than what is recommended, however it seems to work well with how it's laid out. Thanks for stopping in!
Thanks for the great review and video! Can you tell me more about how you fastened the wooden borders to the ground and to each other? We’re having ours assembled this weekend! Also, what did you put over top of the wood - is that what they call deck tiles? Is that to make it softer in case of any kids falls onto the wood? Thank you so much !!
Thanks for stopping in! I used concrete stakes driven into the ground 12" and then used 2 screws to attach the boards. I did this on the inside of the boarder and then sprayed the pieces with a rubber coating. In the corners I used galvanized corner pieces and screws. Where the 4x6 butt up I toe nailed them with long screws and it is all holding together! There are many options on how to do this but I found this to be the easiest for me. I've also seen people cut overlaping joints for where the 4x6 pieces butt up and then screw them together. I didn't place anything on top of the wood for protection. Hope you found this helpful!
I bought the same play-set but my back yard has a decent grade on it. Do you have any videos or recommend on how to level the yard for the play surface?
I've seen people do many things, ranging retaining walls and filling it with dirt, to digging it out to make it level. Each situation is different and I am guessing that the use of fill material compacted would likely be the easiest route. Preparing the foundation is often the biggest pain in the rear but is obviously one of the more important. Thanks for stopping in!
Thanks for stopping in! It didnt fall off, what broke was a ring connecting the twistly slide tubes together. They quickly sent me replacements and they have been fine since!
Great update/review video. Very helpful! I live in a similar climate, so it's good to know that this set holds up to hot humid summers and cold snowy winters. Thanks for posting this! Just a couple questions, if you're not busy. Do you think this set would still be good/fun for 2nd/3rd/ 4th graders? Or is it more geared to the younger crowd? Also, would this set still function ok if the swing set was not installed? Thanks!!
Hey thanks for stopping in, glad you found it helpful! The say it is recommended for kids ages 3-10, and my 4 yr old and almost 2 yr old love it. I wouldn't advise installing it without the swing set, as it adds a lot of stability to the entire setup. You could always change what is on the swing part to whatever you choose!! You could also run that by Kids Kraft to see what they think as well. Let me know if you have any other questions. -Kyle
Awesome details and thorough review , thanks for taking the time to provide all of this, very helpful! A few questions...I saw you mention in a response to someone else that you installed the sub base after you built the swing set. Which way would be best to approach this? Would you suggest installing the sub base after swing set is up or before assembly? You said yours is 24x28 do you feel that is the smallest area to do safely or could I knock off a few feet more? Thanks again!!
Hey thanks for stopping in! So if I did this all over again, I would do it the same way. I'd assemble the playset and get it level and in place. Build the outside border and then stake down fabric and cover with mulch. I built the entire thing by myself and think it turned out well! As far as the play area size, I'm not sure I would advise making it any smaller. The size it is now covers the accident falling out of the swing and if the kids come to fast down the sides. Let me know if you have any other questions! -kyle
Thank you so much for the review, it was very well done and thorough! We wanted to know if the mulch gets hot in the summer sun and if it smells like a tire shop?
Honestly my expectation was it would be a smelly mess, but we have not experienced that. On occasion when it is pushing 100 degrees F, you can get a faint smell of rubber but its nothing to complain about. I highly recommend the rubber mulch. Money well spent! Thanks for stopping in!
I made sure that the playset was on flat ground and then placed it first. After that I installed the border, geotextile and mulch from there. Thanks for stopping by! -K6
Hello, We just bought this playset. I’ve watched both your videos, very helpful! Did you assemble your play set on the ground first, then fill in with rubber mulch? Or did you lay the fabric/mulch down first and assemble right on top of the mulch? Thanks for your help!
I assembled they playset first and the built the boarder around it. At first I wasn't going to put the boarder around it, but after a few times having my daughter play on it I decided I better do something, plus it's much easier to mow around! Happy assembly and thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for your video! We just picked this set up for our 3 kids so it's nice to see how it looks a year later! What is the size of the play area with the mulch?
I bought this playset but the assembler did not attach the id plaque and the box is thrown away and also he damaged a wood piece and i need that serial number is there any way i can get the serial number ?
That’s a great little play area! I’m sure your girls really love it! When all this blows over I bet all their school friends will be asking to come over and play! I know my girls would have loved to have had a play set like that! Jon@SBYD! PS Congratulations on the Subs! Almost there brother!

Awesome that they sent you the new chain! Nice review.
Great Video and tips! Do you have a video when you did the base installation?
Appreciate it! Unfortunately i do not have video of the base installation
Good review. Just curious that do we need to remove the turf before put the mulch?

The only way to verify the area and playset atr level is to use a bubble level or a laser level. Id start off by getting the area flat

What about wind? How’s its holding up
Wind has not been a problem, had 90 mph sustained winds and its still upright

Thank you so much for the helpful reply! Really appreciate it! Lots of great content on your channel. Happy to be a new subscriber. Take care
If you had to outsource building the wood edging and such, who would you go look for?
I would think any contractor or person doing landscape work could handle it. Thanks for stopping in!
Did you use a wood sealer prior to construction or just applying a sealer/stain each year after it was built?
It came pre-finished, I havent needed to do anything since it was built.

How much do you have invested into the playlet foundation? rubber mulch, 4x6, stakes, etc?
It was right around $1000, thanks for stopping in!

What is the square footage of your mulch area?
About 670 ish sq ft, thanks for stopping by!
THANK FOR THE UP DATE
Thanks for the info, man.
Appreciate you stopping by!
How much mulch did you end up using to cover that area?
About 150ish bags! Thanks for stopping by!
Was your mulch from Playsafer or NuPlay? I just ordered from Playsafer and the pieces are much smaller than yours.
Mine was from NuPlay, thanks for stopping in!
Great 1 year review.

I bought this playset but the assembler did not attach the id plaque and the box is thrown away and also he damaged a wood piece and i need that serial number is there any way i can get the serial number ?
I am not sure, but i think the serial number is specific to each playset and i already have mine registered.
Cool, how long do you think it took you to build the playground alone when you first did it?
About 18-20 hours.. its quite the assembly. Thanks for stopping in!
how much of the weed barrier did you buy?
I believe two 125' rolls did the trick for me
