Great walkthrough, I’m definitely doing the rubber pit, makes sense and don’t have to worry about cutting the grass around the play set. Might wanna sand those edges on the 4x6s and round them off. Those things look sharp enough to split skin.
I might throw a router down the edge, 2 years later and injury free! Thanks for watching

Awesome review! I was thinking of buying this, would consider the rubber mulch now instead of sand or that wood pieces, much safer! Very detailed, might but a safe fabric over the wood pieces when they climb to prevent slits. Overall sounds amazing!

Just bought one week ago, and started putting it together but at the begging we have an issue one of the boards are too short..... Bit hopefully I can get this solved someway....
With me working 50 hrs a week hope I can squeeze 14-16 hrs in on the wknd.....

Great job! We just got the same set, what did you used to connect the 4x6 lumber around the perimeter where 2 pieces would butt together? Pocket screws? A flat galvanized plate?
I just toe nailed them together using long deck screws! They are holding just fine but I've seen people used galvanized plates or cut out the mating pieces and over lap them, hope that helps! Thanks for stopping in
Hi - thanks for posting this. Looks great. For the timbers, did you dig up the ground to bury them a few inches or just place them on top? Did you also use rebar to secure them into the ground?
The ground was flat enough that I was able to lay them on top. For securing them to the ground I drove concrete stakes down on the inside and attached them with screws! Thanks for stopping by!

Great review,on your 24x28 area how many rolls of weed block and how many packages of stakes did you use to hold it down? also 150 bags covered area at three inches deep?

I used 2 rolls of 4' x 125' geotextile Fabric (had a little leftover) and a bought a couple boxes of stakes and stake the seams every 3 ft or so just to keep it all locked together. 150 bags cover the area with about 3 inches, its a little thicker around the swings. Thanks for stopping in!

Thank you for the review. Did you have to secure the playset to the ground in any way?
It came with a few anchors. Surprisingly enough it survived a storm with 80mph winds that ripped through our area.

Hey man, 9 months later what do you think? Any drainage issues? Looking to build a similar setup here in the next few months. Want to do the rubber mulch and was told I should put mesh covered drains under the rubber. Have you had any puddling in the rubber? Thanks. A fellow Iowan.
UNI graduate here! We have had zero issues so far. We can go out right after a downpour and play in it with no issues. We were on it Saturday while the snow melted and was not wet! Just make sure your not putting it in a hole and the water will run away. Highly recommend the rubber.
@@k6outdoors Awesome. Thinking i'll be able to handle this after tax season. Has the black coloring came off at all? The uncolored is cheaper but the black looks better.
We got the earthtone colored mulch from menards and it came with a 10yr color warranty, no issues so far!

Great video! I used a lot of your advice on mine. So you bought 150 bags of it off Amazon? Unless I’m mistaken, they are $45 per right now… That seems like a heck of a cost. Just curious if I’m missing something.

You mentioned that the rubber smells when it gets hot but does it actually get too hot to walk over barefoot?
Ive never walked on it barefoot, I don't think it gets hot enough to hurt anyone but id caution walking on it barefooted as it is recycled tires. Thanks for stopping in
How far down did you dig for it.
I didn't do any digging at all. It was pretty flat and the playhouse needed minimal digging to get it flat. I laid the geotextile over the remaining grass and it turned out great! Thanks for stopping in

@@nikecortez123 very minimal, the backyard is flat. It can down pour several inches and the kids can play on it right away!

I'm not 100% certain the limit (i will look in the instructions) but I am 205 lbs and it holds me!

My wife and I just purchased this also. A question on yard prep ( yours looks great) how deep did you go when you stripped the sod and soil?
The only place i removed sod is where the playset touches the ground and i only went deep enough to remove the sod and to be level. The remainder of the area i laid everything over the sod and its been perfect (my backyard is pretty flat). Hope this helps and thanks for stopping in!

That’s the surprise part. I never thought about the media under the play set. Costco had the same play set on sale for 799.00 this week. But now it spending the $1000 on the base. Always something

Over a couple of years the rubber will break down and it will release toxic chemicals into the ground. I’ve seen it at my moms house. It almost seemed like it was disappearing.
Rubber takes many many years to decompose naturally. Likely what you were seeing is the material underneath decomposing. Thanks for stopping by

Everyone love rubber mulch until it gets out of the play area or leaves and needles get imbedded into it.
The only perfect solution to what you are referring to is a solid safety play surface. Unfortunately that is usually not affordable for home owners. Shredded rubber is 100 time better than wood chips and yes it's not perfect. I have yet to have any issues with it myself. Appreciate you stopping by.
