Glad it was helpful....geometry was actually one of my favorite subjects. I received one of my highest overall final grades in that class with like a 97 or 98 😂. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾!
Nice to finally see someone knows how to mulch a tree and not cover the root flare. My neighbor is a landscaper and runs mulch 2 feet up the trunk burying the root flare. I call them mulch volcanos. This guy nailed it perfectly. Not only does this method keep the mulch Out of the lawn but keeps the grass From growing into the mulch area. Well done!
Agree with the over mulching. As a MasterGardener, I went to the home of a woman whose foundation plants were failing. They were so over mulched. She said her lawn guy did it. I recommended she pull the mulch away from her trunks and get a different lawn guy.
Too many of these bad volcano making landscapers in business. Did they teach each other bad techniques? Too many trees and landscapes are suffering premature deaths.
I guess this proves how much wrong information keeps getting passed on. Even the village public works department in town have been over mulching trees way up the trunk. All these trees were replacing trees killed by the Emerald Ash Borer. I hear over 100k in town have been replaced, and since, many of them have been replaced because they ended up dying. One would think one person in the Public works dept would have the education on how to mulch trees. Yet they keep doing this and not only killing young trees but waste so much mulch. My landscaper neighbor killed his. Buying a lawn mower doesn’t make me a landscaper anymore then buying a hammer makes me a carpenter.
I have neighbors who take care of their yards, but they are sprinkled throughout the neighborhood. Those immediately left and right have what I call a "different" standard of care...grass reaches 8" tall, scalp to 2.5", no edging, barely blow clippings, big warm welcome to everyone weed known to mankind. 🤣🤣
I bought my first home a year ago, and never thought in a million years I would be so obsessed with my yard lol the young lady before me wasn't much of an outdoors person; however I am glad I found this video. I have two pine trees in my front yard that have mulch I want to remove and make it look better. I have literally spent more money on tools than shoes lol and I love my shoes and clothes... Thanks for this information
I appreciate how you showed your process from the beginning. setting up your string, making the line and your cuts. I'll be trying this out in my yard. have about 4 or 5 trees where I need to do something like this. subscribed!

Aha!!! Use a string to get your circumference! Who knew? Thanks for this tip alone! No edges to hammer home, no spikes to keep them still. Great results, my good man.
great job. I do the same in my landscape business. Only thing different is that I use a flat shovel since a standard shovel is cupped. And I use the flat shovel to cut under to make the ground nice and flat before adding mulch. Flat hovel with a D handle. When trees don't have irregular flares to them, I just use a long stick with a mark on it, and put the stick against the truck and make painted dots all around then connect the dots witht the shovel.
@@ElevatedLawnscapes heck yea! I would hire you for sure! I would be disappointed if you weren't playing some Sade while working on my lawn, but I would still hire you! =)

Looks great ! Love the video editing... I just did this, and after watching your video, it confirmed that I did it correctly. The only real difference was I didn't use the paint method. I tied the end of the string to my shovel at the same hight it was tied to the tree and made my border/circle at the same time.
Very nicely done. I've always done the first dig on the out side of line but never did it on the angle on the inside that really gets the angle you are looking for. tying off the paint can very good. like another commenter said liked your delivery and teaching ability.
Thanks for watching and your feedback. There are a number of ways that you can do this but this is my method that I have found works best for me. Glad it was helpful for you!
I just planted a tree for the first time in my life, and was looking up a how-to for creating a sharp edge around a tree. Thanks for showing this technique !
I have twelve mulch circles around trees on my lawn, all of them are 5 feet in diameter. I use eight bags of cocoa bean mulch annually, and some of the circles are planted with annual flowers. Your local independent nursery can instruct you on how to do that. Big box stores are staffed with local students but most independent nurseries hire horticulture students and have at least one horticulturalist on staff.
Brother the music 🎶is smooth, didn't expect that, you're handsome and on point with that landscaping. I needed instruction on the circles around the 🌳. Thank you. Your family must be extraordinarily proud of you. Keep doing what you do..Proud of you
I truly appreciate that Lisa 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾!!! My family really is proud of me my Mama tells me all the time how proud she is of me and that once I put my mind into something I'm not going to stop until I succeed.
I did it, it works great. About the knot I used, where ever you want to join the string make a simple Marlinspikes knot, double over your tag end stick it through the loop in the Marlinspike , then pull on the main line, when your finished just pull hard on the tag end and the complete knot unravels. no knots in the string. I`m not a Boy Scout either, just an old youtuber!
Beautiful natural edge. Well done. I ran with this style edge for two years. Natural edge is considered the best by most good pro landscapers. Best quality edges do require strong maintenance practices. I pulled the mulch back from the grass about eight to ten inches. The soil will naturally compact itself and make trimming easier with power equipment. The shovel will show it’s self about twice a year in Florida. This year I added metal edging that reduced the maintenance by 80%. Still has the same good looks. Good luck.
The beauty of this is that you should be able to mow right around those edges and cut out the extra trimming required with a border around the circle. So a little extra effort to maintain the shape, but a lot less effort when mowing.
A for effort. I've done a few of those in my time. First time, pretty close to what he did. Last time I used my gas edger to make the first cut; when you're older you look for ways to save the back. Also, I'd consider putting landscape fabric down to keep the grass/weeds from coming up through the mulch. Helpful hint to do it on the cheap, turn old carpet back-side up and trim to fit, it works like a charm. Lastly, I like to keep the mulch back from the outer edge by a couple inches. That way, when you mow, you can put the inside wheels down into the trench...without throwing out mulch in to the yard. Keep it up...nice yard!
Nice work! It was the first time I'd seen that technique used to mark the circle. (What I liked the best, though, was your personality! I felt like you were enjoying what you were doing and sharing it with others.)
Definitely one of the best videos I've seen on edging and maintaining your lawn. I tried this after watching and it worked out just the same way. True professional, thank you so much for posting this, respect bro, I'm gona share this with some friends and family for sure!
Great job. You did this perfectly. So, so many landscape companies dump mulch around trees and create tree volcanos which kill the tree. You let the tree root flare breathe which is key. And that circle is on point. The edge around the tree is awesome. Those lines are great.
I just watched your video on edged around your tree 🌳 My wife and I was talking about this the other day. Just happened to run a cross your video so cool thanks for sharing this project with us! I have subscribed to your channel. I watch Pete all the time God bless 🙏
I have taken a note of that. To be honest even with those big trees my back lawn gets probably 4-5 hrs of full sun in the morning. Then shade for most of the day after that.
The key... seed type tolerance. I have big Oak trees in my yard and started overseeding with Perennial Ryegrass and Fescue... maybe 3 to 4 hours of sun, and it's full green and thick! ... Location: MA... my seed type isn't ideal for southern lawns...
Some kids were doing a fund raiser selling mulch so I bought some to make one of these around one of my trees. Just what I needed! When the mulch arrives I will know what to do. Great video.
Give it a try, it not that difficult. Follow the tips shown in the video and make sure to keep the string tight when making the circle and you will be good 👍🏾
Every time I use that marking paint, I end up with orange shoes! My method is to attache a rope from the tree to a half-moon shovel to make the first cut. It makes a perfect circle every time.
If you want to save yourself a *ton* of money at the expense of a little more effort, you can't beat WDG-65 as a Pre-M. I keep a sprayer with a gallon mixed at all times, it will cover 1,000 square feet, and best of all costs me around 16 cents. I have brick walkways which I treat three times a year with the sprayer. It is a game changer.
When you mentioned you were doing this kind of job out of season, it only made sense when you mentioned the word: WIFEY. lol. Wow! That's one beautiful lawn by the way. The final product just looks Amazing.
Thank you for this amazing instruction! Beautiful yard. What would you recommend for a row of trees (20) that vary in size to make them match? Our HOA doesn’t have the money to hire out so it would be many volunteers at different times. So appreciate any kind of advice you can share.
I would recommend that you pick a circle diameter that you like that will fit your largest tree. This will mean that you will have more actual mulch area round the smaller trees but the circles will all be the same size. If you do not like that look then pick a circle size for the large trees and a circle size for the smaer trees. You will use the same methods as the video. The key is make sure you have the same measurement from the center of the tree to your desired edge. The tree as the anchor will do the rest to make it symmetrical no matter the actual size of the tree. Hope that helps!
wow! im kind of obsessed with keeping all my edges sharp and clean... you, my new landscape hero😉 are on a whole nother level! I got a little choked up and a bit teary eyed when you just pulled the pieces out in strips🤩 im starting on this tomorrow morning... I have 3 trees and 1 shattered ego to repair now.... thanks for sharing your talent. can't wait to see more of your elevated landscapes.
I appreciate that! It's the result of good aerating, overseeding with quality seed, and good fall fertilizing. Depending on where you live and the type of grass you have June can be tough on grass. For cool season lawns we prepare 9 months out of the year for the hardest 3 months of the year June, July, and August.
This is 💫 ,Beautiful way way to enhance the charm of an old tree and maybe by adding a welcoming bench under it's shades people will appreciate your talents for putting the jewels on a ignored old tree . They often get ignored and attention is to draw the eye away from them instead of pulling you under it's umbrella ❤. It's just BEAUTIFUL . GET A BLANKET ,LOOK UP ! There's so much Life in those trees . You have made a perfect circle oife 💫. Thank you for the life lesson in this ❤
In my opinion, I do not see the benefit of the additional cost and labor. You will still need to apply a pre emergent like Preen or Snapshot for the best control of weeds in your beds. I only use a pre-emergent and I reapply my pre-emergent at the label re-application duration. I have very few weeds in my beds during the season with this method.
@@ElevatedLawnscapes My home had this done, but weeds have been growing due to negligence by the previous owner. Thanks the this video it's inspired me to revitalize the yard! I wish I could show pics for tips!
I always lay landscape fabric down... Sometimes I double it if there are a lot of weeds in that spot.. I use the grey vigaro from Home Depot... Cost a little more, but I don't even have to think about weeds in my bed anymore. I like to do things once. Lol **I also use stone instead of mulch... No need to refresh every couple of years like mulch. Again, I like to do things once, but to each their own of course. 🙂
@@chris_favreau I agree with you on doing things once. My thing with the fabric is eventually weed seeds get on top of the fabric and start growing from there. The fabric works well for keeping weeds from growing from the soil up but not from top of the fabric up. That is my experience with it. Like I say, there is more than 1 way to do lawncare and people have the right to do what works best for their lawn 👍🏾🌱. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾!

🤣🤣🤣 I completely understand that. The pollen has not been too bad on me this year....thankfully 🙏🏾
Looks NICE!
I’m going to try that out this weekend.
I can’t tell what’s sharper.....
That ring around that tree, or your beard! Looking good brother!
Thank you sir! Get out there and get after it. I think you will be happy with the results.
I don’t know. You seem more like a boot kind of guy to me! Just found your vids and have enjoyed what I’ve seen so far. Very nice lawn. Good job.
You are right. Normally in the yard and winter I am. Im between pairs of boots right now 😂. Summertime I will do shoes for a quick mow and done.
Some kids were doing a fund raiser selling mulch so I bought some to make one of these around one of my trees. Just what I needed! When the mulch arrives I will know what to do. Great video.
I saw a sign over the weekend that boy scouts was selling and delivering mulch which was new for me. Thanks for watching!
Man that was genius making the circle the way you did.
Just a little trick I have used a number of times and just wanted to share.
Huh?
The end result is absolutely gorgeous, I don't know how you created that initial circle there's no way I could have done that that way
Give it a try, it not that difficult. Follow the tips shown in the video and make sure to keep the string tight when making the circle and you will be good 👍🏾
Nicely done! That looks fabulous.
Thank you very much!
Every time I use that marking paint, I end up with orange shoes! My method is to attache a rope from the tree to a half-moon shovel to make the first cut. It makes a perfect circle every time.
Thats a great method also. I just like to see my outline before I cut so I can make changes if necessary.
Amazing work! That's how everyone should spread the mulch not like a volcano.
Thanks 🙏🏾! I hate to see them volcanoes
Great job . This procedure is the best I have seen so far. Like it.
Thanks 🙏🏾! Glad you liked the video and found it useful.
Awesome job! Roger Cook would be so proud!!!!
😂 Thank you!
Outstanding job....and awesome beard!
I appreciate that man 🙏🏾
I am going to pull up my edging , then do that. It really looks good
Thanks! Give it a go!
That’s beautiful! And love me some Preen! I get that on first thing in the spring, makes life so much easier!
It definitely makes life easier!
When you mentioned you were doing this kind of job out of season, it only made sense when you mentioned the word:
WIFEY. lol.
Wow! That's one beautiful lawn by the way.
The final product just looks Amazing.
Thanks! Yep, you know how it goes when wifey wants something done.
Great video man! Never would have thought to use the tree as the center pin for your radius. The slow mo mulch is awesome too lol
Thanks man! I was pretty excited about that shot when I reviewed it. It it came out great on camera.
@@ElevatedLawnscapes Perfect! Thank you so much!
That looks nice and crisp!!
🙏🏾
wow! im kind of obsessed with keeping all my edges sharp and clean... you, my new landscape hero😉 are on a whole nother level! I got a little choked up and a bit teary eyed when you just pulled the pieces out in strips🤩 im starting on this tomorrow morning... I have 3 trees and 1 shattered ego to repair now.... thanks for sharing your talent. can't wait to see more of your elevated landscapes.
You can definitely keep those edges sharp clean and I know you do. I appreciate you for watching 🙏🏾!
Wow! I thought I was perfectionist but never thought of this. Thanks, I have to try it tomorrow
Give it a try. Im a little bit of a perfectionist myself....you are ok here in this community 😂
Liked, subscribed and SAVED!
Excited to learn more
Totally inspired to get to work 💪
Thank you and welcome to the Elevated family 🙏🏾!
I'm crying over here with heavy clay soil and bermuda runners all the way across my beds, lol. Good video.
Clay definitely makes it tougher. Try doing it when the soil has more moisture in the ground like after a rain. Thanks for watching 🙏🏾!
Your yard looks better in December then mine does in June. . .
I appreciate that! It's the result of good aerating, overseeding with quality seed, and good fall fertilizing. Depending on where you live and the type of grass you have June can be tough on grass. For cool season lawns we prepare 9 months out of the year for the hardest 3 months of the year June, July, and August.
Absolutely beautiful results....thank you for the excellent video...
Thanks 🙏🏾! Glad it was helpful.
Thank you for the life lesson in this ❤
Thanks I appreciate that. I strive to take care of everything on my property. It gets challenging but I do my best.
Is it better to laydown a weed barrier beneath the mulch or no?

Lol
**I also use stone instead of mulch...
Thanks for watching 🙏🏾!
holy shit, ive been wondering how to do something like this. Cant believe a string would have solved my problem. Thank you for sharing
I aim to keep it simple when I can. Thanks for watching!
OMG! I’m so glad we found you! We moved into our almost three years ago and still have no landscaping. So overwhelmed by where to even start.
Just subscribed to your channel. Found you from Lead Farmer. We’d love for you to check us out too!
Thank you for the sub! I have some videos coming up to explain some basics of lawncare that will help yall out. I will definitely be checking your channel out!
Your video is absolutely amazing!! I have a tree in the backyard that I’m going to do the same thing as you did. When I first saw the base of the tree in the beginning I thought you had either some plastic or metal casings around where you cut the lawn but was surprised!
My friend that is beautiful and I hit LIKED & Subscribed!
Thank you SIR !
Thank you for subscribing and I'm glad the video was helpful.
I’m now ready to step up my yard game after seeing this amazing presentation.
Go for it you can do it!!! Learn some foundational practices, put in the work, stay consistent, and have some patience with it.
Idk how you made spray painting an orange circle on your yard majestic, but god dammit you did it!
😂😂😂 I have been getting that type of response from a lot of viewers. As a content creator, thats the ultimate mission accomplished and compliment. Thank you 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Oh man! Now you've created work for me. Gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.

Been wondering how to get a circle round a tree. Obvious when you see an expert doing it. Great video and thanks for the tip. From Scotland
I appreciate that 🙏🏾! Thank you for watching from Scotland 👌🏾
Great explanation of how to do this with string! Looks awesome, thank you!
