    I think Chlorotic is really nice early on. It gives you your first "board nuke" skill. It's conditional, but it's pretty easy to make that condition happen.

    I've got a mod that plays Darude everytime I cast Sandstorm... the jury's still out as to whether it's an actual QoL improvement or not, but I thought it deserved a mention.

    Citadel guard's sabatons is good for tanky classes that don't use PP very often. Alain for example can get a high enough block rate to not need noble guard above 50% hp, depending on unit setup he may not use rapid order, and luminous cover isn't something that's always useful either depending on unit setup and who they're fighting. May as well turn the unused PP into more attacks.
    Of course the kicker is there isn't very many classes/characters I'd use it on other than alain due to the prevalence of things like looping AP attacks, or universally good PP abilities.

    Thawing sceptre is actually one of the best staves in the game once you get to the albion blacksmith.
    To not worry about frontline survivng:
    1. use an evade tank with a silk scarf.
    2. Have a shield unit in the backline to cover the evade tank when attacked by hunters.
    There you go. No need for cavalry hunter bucklers and the like. Evade tanking>guard tanking>hp tanking.
    Interrogators bow is an excellent bow that lasted me to the endgame. Just needs the blacksmith.
    On a sidenote, i hate the mining quests. Perhaps a mining quest guide like which items treasure maps are acquired in which quarries and then the locations of those treasures.

    • @purplatypus7405
      @purplatypus7405  3 месяца назад

      Thawing scepter is great but ive not needed it much in the late game as my damage is so high it tends to not matter if they guard and if they do I can use warcry to make them unable if needed.
      I think the Cav buckler is very good and makes tanking much easier with less slots.

    • @TheRobversion1

      @@purplatypus7405 while i agree its not needed, it is excellent when you do need follow up dmg. Same way pursuit skills are touted, this is essentially better than everything outside of the situational healing hunter, wide pursuit and shattering pursuit.
      A good use case for this that i've found is tackling the coliseum early which imo are the toughest challenges in the game. try taking out the level 50 enemies with a level 30 squad. Stuff like guard hunter starts to matter. Your board/row/column nukes wont be enough as the defenses/hp are higher and you dont have enough atk yet to punch through the def in one shot due to level differences. Theres also the fact that there are featherstaffs there that go early and cast holy cradle. Follow up dmg starts to show value even after board nuking.
      i'd disagree on cav hunter as evade tanking is simply superior. Evade tanking is basically ignore all non-truestrike dmg at no PP cost which means you can allocate that PP elsewhere. Early in the game enemy accuracy is typically low, you easily reach 1% hit rate on S growth evasion classes with just 1-2 evasion gear. Makes having a dedicated healer also unnecessary that you can sub another damaging or support unit to help end the battle quicker.

    • @pdraggy
      @pdraggy 3 месяца назад

      not a pro at the game yet, but I'd think getting a proper evade tank in the early game (at least 100-130 evade) is impossible, there isn't a lot of evade items early and accuracy STARTS at 120 so you'll have an extremely tough time with what, 70 evade? It catches up quickly as more and stronger evade items appear (and not many acc items appear at all, many things add evade in addition to other things though), but like before elheim I do not remember much more than the base scarf to aid in the evade stat.

    • @TheRobversion1
      @TheRobversion1 3 месяца назад +2

      @@pdraggy theres the mistletoe charm (20 evade) IIRC and the 2 lucky coins. Getting 100-130 evade early is indeed impossible but you dont need to hit those amounts until endgame. Early game if you can hit about 70-80 you're set. Maybe use a mirror to switch to lucky, lucky. silken scarf, lucky coin, heavenswing/bandit sword is a base 50 evade without adding any stats.
      theres also the flight bonus which you arent accounting for if using a flying evade tank.

    When I was testing Aerial and Cavalry shift, their abilities were affecting all allies in the row for the Crit increase, not just Flying and Cavalry respectively. I think it’s either a translation error or a visual glitch, or maybe it means it only grants the 40% Crit if an enemy of that type is present(which loops back to bad translation). It would explain the default tactic on it

    • @ZX-Gear
      @ZX-Gear 3 месяца назад +2

      Yeah. This is especially egregious as games with story is take it or leave it most the time but not properly translating gameplay texts is a REAL blunder. Like seriously,it is as bad as Radiant Dawn not properly translating some skills.

    • @TheRobversion1
      @TheRobversion1 3 месяца назад +4

      From my testing heres the breakdown of the general equipment:
      1. checks if enemy type is present (like cavalry for general's lance).
      2. activates if enemy attacks regardless if hit, miss, guarded.
      3. buffs a row that you specify in the gambit (or default targets). buffs that row regardless of who's present in it (like a general's lance wont care if a cav is on the row you target).
      4. those bonuses work regardless of who your buffed units attack. So the general's lance buffs work on anyone targeted as long as cavs are present. It also continues to work after you kill the cavs.

  • @CherryBlossomStorm
    @CherryBlossomStorm 3 месяца назад +4

    yeah, generals bow is a translation error. it affects damage against those enemy types, not for those unit types.

      @@TheRobversion1 I think AP is really valuable in the early game when you only have 1-2 of it per unit. That's what makes this item really nice on certain classes. Feels like it is getting unnecessary shade

    • @TheRobversion1
      @TheRobversion1 3 месяца назад +2

      @@JoyDivisionIsHere Fair point in getting extra AP early on which is useful for when you dont have access to promoted units, carnelians, rubys, etc. Though tbh i never found the need to use it early on for that purpose as i used alot of warriors and knights on my early teams. So there was always someone with a looping skill to finish of enemies when everyone else has used their single AP. but yeah if you dont beeline for the knight/warrior recruits, the sabatons has that use case. If you do beeline for the knights/warriors, then it becomes unneeded.
      My guess is it gets shade because like me, alot of people probably went after adel, mordon, nina and kitra early on.

    • @purplatypus7405
      @purplatypus7405  3 месяца назад

      if AP is low then PP is probably low also early game. Id rather my units use their PP to block or cover than get extra ap, most units that can self guard are kinda mid at attacking especially early game imo. To me it feels like an item that reads as good but is to inconstant on most classes and other classes where its more consistent its not that good anyway.

    • @JoyDivisionIsHere
      @JoyDivisionIsHere 3 месяца назад +2

      @@purplatypus7405 These are fair assessments and I would agree that this item does fall off a bit or at least, becomes much more niche as the game progresses. As someone who just started a new run this item remains one of my favorite early game pickups.
      I find it has the most impact throwing it on Alain, Clive/Adel, or Miriam (all below lv10 at this point) as a 2nd lean edge, assaulting lance, or a Hache > Sabatons cycle / two hits of Runic Blade are significantly better than whatever you would use that single passive point on otherwise.

    I know this is old but I started my TZ playthrough so I’m back in the beginning. Patches have fixed the translation issues.
    I think you’re overrating the Cavalry Buckler. It’s not bad it’s just too situational. Plenty of enemy squads that don’t have a knight at all and there are too few classes in the early game to actually use shields and the extra PP effectively.
    Azure Crest Shield from the first walled town is very good for Alain, Josef, or Lex though. And it deserves a spot.
    Also odd that the True Thrust lance isn’t mentioned. It’s pretty difficult to take down thieves and fliers without it since you only get one hunter unless you use precious honor to grab more mercs (you should get at least one anyway though).
    I use the Ice Conferral Tome on my Gryphons or Housecarls for big row effects. I still think people sleep on Housecarls a bit.
