The second free quest circle you get(from the Shaman lady's quest in the upper left of the first quest) has a catapult that can knock out a dozen guys for full exp so you can build a unit of purely low level units and farm them all up at once.
Later on (pretty much around the time you unlock promotion) this is also an incredible fast honor grinding map. A (promoted) Flying squad can clear the map on Story (just lower it for that) between 4-11 seconds depending on which base is selected as the command post by use of Hastened Call and just rushing to it. This nets you 1780 gold, 17 honors and 8 Renown every time. You can promote almost your entire army in relatively fast time here.

I just recently realized I should have had the golden eggs on the main flyng guy the whole time. I went back today to get points to promote and gave 1 lucky egg to each guy, and a miser's bracelet. So I'm getting 7x gold for winning fights.
Regarding money, you also can do the mining game for 200g to dig up Iron Ores that you can sell for 250G. Sometimes you can find Divine Shards too. You can easily get 4+ ores per run and at the minimum 2 and that's still worth more than what you paid for.
The golden egg thing actually works better long term due to there being 5 eggs, 1 goblet, 1 sword, 1 axe, and one additional thing that all stack their effect, in endgame you can build a team with each member holding an egg, one aditionally holding the sword and one holding the axe and remaining goblet and other thing, makes any farming mission boss from elfheim owards a guaranteed 10k if you don't use a fortune drop. Otherwise it's 20k + the 2k from a speed clear plus any additional enemies killed on route to the boss.
Along with the two valor skills it’s great to pop liquid fortune on a unit when you’re really close to the end- double xp and gold. You can buy them in most stores for 2k gold, so early on they pay for themselves if you just kill the boss, but if you can wipe like 3 units and plunder all of them first it can be huge.
You can't buy Liquid Fortune till the latter half of Drakenhold, so this only applies around that point forward. However squads with flying units should be prioritized as they can literally invalidate some side and chapter battles. In the battle to reclaim Soldraga, I invalidated the entire chapter by throwing my Wyvern Master and Gryphon Master squads directly north and just rolled over the whole chapter, Berengaria and her nonsense included, before the NPC units even touched the first capture point directly south.

Also, I used my Wyvern Master squad because I was mad that the game took Berengaria from me, and she was on the aforementioned squad, so it was a vendetta battle that was very much in my favor.
Thanks!! Good to know I'm off to a good start; I essentially do all these. When I got to Renown C, I was able to 4-member two of my units at once. I think 5 squads is perfect. I was fine with 4, but had so much honor that even with a floor of 50, I was able to open that 5th unit up. And yeah now I'm hard stocking. I'm just about ready to go fight Renault.
Make sure that the unit you give Alain’s XP boost valor skill to get’s a KO. That will maximize the XP you get because the effect only lasts one battle.
I've discovered that you can also farm honours by defeating enemies in an area before liberating that area. You don't gain any exp but you gain 2 honours per battle. Plus there's no stamina limit, no risk of a game over and you can select any squad unit to fight them. I usually do this and then, when they're all defeated, I start the stage itself.
Keep in mind, you get all the honors from these enemy squads once you clear the liberation mission in the area. Any genies you hadn't yet defeated will be destroyed, and you'll get the honor for all of them. So you don't need to take the time to beat them prior, if you don't want.

Agree with most things wholeheartedly disagree with recruit gear for the whole first kingdom just be decked out except for your most powerful characters in recruit gear most of the "powerful" things on the starter island arn't particularly powerful and even if you have everyone decked out in recruit gear you will be able to afford the good gear when you need it as buying everyone some recruit gear costs about the same as 1 solid item also recruit gear is just a straight upgrade on what most of your units are using anyway.
Honestly though, what equals up to more gold with the Golden Egg? Selling it for 30k *immediately* or double gold on a *single* squad? Average gold per battle seems to float around 50/100g an elimination. So, optimally you get 200g on average per elimination. That's 150 eliminated enemy squads. That's like, a dozen combat missions easy. I really believe that the developers intended for you to just sell it for a quick chunk of cash to start you out in the beginning of the game.
That's completely incorrect. There are multiple eggs, as well as other gear that boasts gold income, and it all stacks. By selling them, you deny yourself massively increased income down the line. I've had squads earn upwards of 15k from one kill with these items stacked on them.
@@TitaniumLegman Feels like they would be useful on your strongest squads that are already at the level of the stage or above it to be honest. I still feel the 30k boost at the beginning of the game for selling it would be more useful than the 30k earned through an odd 10 hours of combat or so. Then again you get more than one so you can still have your cake and eat it too.
With my fire emblem history, I thought Jagens are xp thieves but does he really take any in this case since the whole squad gets xp instead of each unit like FE? Does each member get their own amount or is a bulk amount split between them?
He still takes his fair share of exp but makes leveling newer characters far easier early game. Also in FE I’d recommend making use of Jagens, their often fantastic and don’t fall off as hard as many people say and it’s easy to replace them with a later prepromote if they do fall off.
technically he is stealing xp by being in the formation instead of another low level unit. the game does not have a lack of xp so i don't think this power levelling method is useful - indeed coming into elfheim a lot of my units were over levelled even though i spread xp between 10 formations
@@lowbearful I think it’s more that Josef is still useful later in the game and doesn’t really fall off is why you would use him. If you really want to bench him after Cornia you might want to but before then using him isn’t going to impact you with how many replacements you get.
I am recking my brain, is the game more rewarding on hard difficulty or is playing it on normal is fine? I like to play tactics based games on hard, but not sure that the extra time it will take to beat the game will worth it.
While I haven't compared the difficulties to one another, playing it at it's hardest setting, doesn't seem to make the units damage sponges. It seems, the challenge is based on knowing what units counter what, and what types protect/boost the others to shore up thier weaknesses. Any mistakes you make, can still be negated with items, to an extent.... So, it's no Devil May Cry 3, non-special edition.
If you're satisfied with your progress/choices in the demo, just continue the save, if you feel you can get a better start and dont mind starting over then make a new game
One of the best valor skills I found is the griffin hasten call. It doubles movement for all units in an area for 30 secs. Using it on cavalry or fliers just makes them zip around the map so it’s pretty broken. And only cost 1 valor too
Fun fact about that alain, berengaria, yahna, shannon, and sylvie(the druid i forget her name) is one of the best teams ive had for the story, when alain is boosted with the griffen movement speed you can beat almost any objective in less than 25 ingame seconds. Its crazy, add a witch to a team with a doom knight, and for 3 additional valor you can get an instant telport to the final fight with a free attack call
As a corollary to point 10, a lot of the resources are region-specific, so your stationed guards will fill up your stores with them when you're in a different region using their resources. Don't forget to go back and spend them! Near the end of the Drakenhold questline I went back and got ~100 honors just by filling auxiliary requests in Cornia.
You can also use the mini map to view all the town deliverables requirements and whether ot not you have enough resources, by pressing "more info" button when hovering over the town.
Ah right. Leaving a unit in the town doesn't affect your army? I had avoided doing that until now as I was using every unit I had unlocked at this point.

Town guard benefits when you spam free exp stage. You will unlock all Max 5 very soon. Team tactics are very powerful in this game. You can reach No.1 coliseum at LV20 but to win need LV30 or better tactics than I am.
Here's a pretty big tip that plays well with the idea of favoring unit depth over breadth: Compare your units against the enemy before committing to deploying them. Deploying a unit directly onto base camp at the start of a battle will allow you to check predictions versus enemy units, and then immediately retreat to make changes without unpausing. Swapping a couple characters usually suffices to answer any hard counters, so it's much more resource efficient to look at the calcs and compositions, then make changes to existing units when necessary, instead of investing in entirely separate units for specific use cases. This also has the added benefit of ensuring that certain mainstays are always leveled to their peak potential.

False info on the first one. I'm on the final continent and i found multiple ports that take you to different continent if you can beat their mission which are usually 10 or more level higher than where you are.
In my experience in the demo, it doesn't matter. Plunder picks a random value to steal from every unit. Tested across reloads and it could nab anywhere from 200 to 900 from the same enemy, mooks and bosses alike, Golden Egg or not. It seems the game just decides how much gold an enemy has when you use it and you can only steal once per enemy. It's also arguable that a Valor Skill doesn't count as "the character's unit."
@@donniecupples6721 Yes, harbours in Cornia will take you to islands. But at the end of Drakenhold, there will be a harbour that takes you to the beast continent.
Omg I’m so glad I saw this before starting my new save, I’ve never been this impressed by a tip video! I’ll definitely have to remember that upgrades unit slots is better than unlocking all the slots for 10 honors 🧐
I can see arguments for both, by that point it's easier to farm honor if you need too and snowballing one or two units is really effective. I went straight north at the beginning just to see if I could and I got through most of those fights by making just one unbeatable unit with 5 you can counter anything.
Definitely better to focus on building up versus wide. By the time I got to the quest about upgrading max unit size from 3 to 4, I had most of my squads at 4 members. Every time I get a new character from the story, I'll try to build up first. Luckily the game has given enough story characters that I have not bought any mercs yet, since the story characters have filled out all my open member slots. I'm currently working through Drakenhold.
At the way it's paced, I'm assuming you can get by with only story characters the whole time if you want. At that point, the main reason to recruit generics is to fill out more specific unit setups, like triple soldiers, or to get more flyers early or smth.
@@TitaniumLegman For those who take the forgiving path and recruit everyone, yeah the game seems to give a lot of characters. I will end up getting mercs at some point, as I want to setup dedicated assist units with max assist potential. Also, I'm aiming for a second playthrough where I just execute everyone and that will force me to fill out my team with mercs.
I'm at level 28 without spending a single gold or using items. the game was absolutely designed for you to be able to win through tactics and the items you can get for free throughout the game. that said, I believe that the best items in the game are the +1 AP/PP pendants you can buy from Black Merchants. You're basically getting an extra team member just for gold
I had the same idea about the boat with my first playthrough of the demo, which is why I avoided it. In many games (most I've played), once you hit the boat, you're progressing the story and going to another land. Similarly, with stationing guards in towns. It makes absolutely no sense that you still have full access to them during skirmishes, but you do in this game. So stationing is really just an unlock for free stuff, because you aren't really stationing anyone. Also, you can switch who has the Golden Egg equipped at any time as long as the units have not yet engaged. Similarly with any of the rare or unique weapons. Lastly, you keep saying "et cetera" so much that it makes me think of Hedwig from the films Split and Glass. 😂
Loving the game so far. My favorite team at the moment is Travis, Leah, Virginia and berengaria Basically, Travis poisons, Berengaria debuffs and follows up to regain PP. Leah takes out scouts and uses impale to finish off any leftovers to gain PP and regains AP when attacked. Virginia deals with any extra flyers and armoured units.
You get multiple golden eggs later in the game and the boost to early game equipment is a big deal. I'd highly recommend selling it immediately so you can buy the life steal blade and the runic blade and be able to afford literally anything you want. I'm only level 20 and after selling my golden egg I still have two more plus a myriad of weapons that also double gold earned. Sell it!
Is there any benefit to defeating the enemies for honors before starting battles? It seems like you don't get experience, but I'm not sure if this also takes the enemies out the battle when it actually starts.
One thing I can add about town management is that if you don't have a guard available for a town, just hire a cheap mercenary for the job. 3-7 honors is nothing compared to the resources that guard will get you in the long run (those resources will easily get you that 3-7 honors back and then some in time).
A stationed guard will automatically collect the resources that spawn in the dig points in that town's area, which spawn one new resource after every few battle stages cleared. You also get a small amount of money after every battle from your stationed guards

Save some honour so you can promote more units as soon as you unlock it

I have the Golden egg on Travis and then plunder like crazy getting anywhere between 500 and 1500 gold per plunder.
I am very early on in the demo, I'll definitely be restarting to recalibrate my approach to these recommendations. Great and very needed demo.
Pro tip: start the elven story line until you get the first story unit. she is a beast, and it requires no battles.

The egg also doesn’t seem to boost gold from plunder, from what I saw. My plunders are getting in the 400-500 range with it on.
I didn't realize these sell for 30k o.o I almost never look at the sell menu unless I'm clearing out old bronze weapons from merc hires

There is no XP stealing in this game, whether they are partnered with Josef or another lowbie the XP that an individual character gets is the same.

Btw promotion for most characters is 25-35 honor, Alain and Scarlet both cost 50 though.
There are a few other 50's too, Liliana is 50 for example. Basically the "important uniques".

Absolutely, the lower difficulty modes don't require much finagling, and there's also auto Equip and auto setup abilities for gear and skills.

False info on the first one. I'm on the final continent and i found multiple ports that take you to different continent if you can beat their mission which are usually 10 or more level higher than where you are.

Golden egg stacks with plunder????
In my experience in the demo, it doesn't matter. Plunder picks a random value to steal from every unit. Tested across reloads and it could nab anywhere from 200 to 900 from the same enemy, mooks and bosses alike, Golden Egg or not.
It seems the game just decides how much gold an enemy has when you use it and you can only steal once per enemy.
It's also arguable that a Valor Skill doesn't count as "the character's unit."
Unfortunately for some reason there was not a single delivery of the game where I live so I have to wait till the coming week to get my copy.

There are harbours that give you access to other nations.
Just little islands that have like 5 divine shards on one, one has an island with two towns.

But at the end of Drakenhold, there will be a harbour that takes you to the beast continent.
Omg I’m so glad I saw this before starting my new save, I’ve never been this impressed by a tip video! I’ll definitely have to remember that upgrades unit slots is better than unlocking all the slots for 10 honors 🧐
When you already have 4/4 teams it is just cheaper to create a new squad than upgrading to 5/5
I can see arguments for both, by that point it's easier to farm honor if you need too and snowballing one or two units is really effective.
I went straight north at the beginning just to see if I could and I got through most of those fights by making just one unbeatable unit with 5 you can counter anything.
Definitely better to focus on building up versus wide. By the time I got to the quest about upgrading max unit size from 3 to 4, I had most of my squads at 4 members. Every time I get a new character from the story, I'll try to build up first. Luckily the game has given enough story characters that I have not bought any mercs yet, since the story characters have filled out all my open member slots. I'm currently working through Drakenhold.
At the way it's paced, I'm assuming you can get by with only story characters the whole time if you want. At that point, the main reason to recruit generics is to fill out more specific unit setups, like triple soldiers, or to get more flyers early or smth.
@@TitaniumLegman For those who take the forgiving path and recruit everyone, yeah the game seems to give a lot of characters. I will end up getting mercs at some point, as I want to setup dedicated assist units with max assist potential. Also, I'm aiming for a second playthrough where I just execute everyone and that will force me to fill out my team with mercs.
I'm at level 28 without spending a single gold or using items. the game was absolutely designed for you to be able to win through tactics and the items you can get for free throughout the game. that said, I believe that the best items in the game are the +1 AP/PP pendants you can buy from Black Merchants. You're basically getting an extra team member just for gold
I had the same idea about the boat with my first playthrough of the demo, which is why I avoided it. In many games (most I've played), once you hit the boat, you're progressing the story and going to another land. Similarly, with stationing guards in towns. It makes absolutely no sense that you still have full access to them during skirmishes, but you do in this game. So stationing is really just an unlock for free stuff, because you aren't really stationing anyone.
Also, you can switch who has the Golden Egg equipped at any time as long as the units have not yet engaged. Similarly with any of the rare or unique weapons.
Lastly, you keep saying "et cetera" so much that it makes me think of Hedwig from the films Split and Glass. 😂
Loving the game so far.
My favorite team at the moment is Travis, Leah, Virginia and berengaria
Basically, Travis poisons, Berengaria debuffs and follows up to regain PP. Leah takes out scouts and uses impale to finish off any leftovers to gain PP and regains AP when attacked. Virginia deals with any extra flyers and armoured units.
These are such good tips I wish I knew before I sank 30 hours into the game. Especially the golden egg thing.
You get multiple golden eggs later in the game and the boost to early game equipment is a big deal. I'd highly recommend selling it immediately so you can buy the life steal blade and the runic blade and be able to afford literally anything you want. I'm only level 20 and after selling my golden egg I still have two more plus a myriad of weapons that also double gold earned. Sell it!
Only a select few units cost 50 honor to promote. Lex takes 25, and Melisandre takes 30.

Is there any benefit to defeating the enemies for honors before starting battles? It seems like you don't get experience, but I'm not sure if this also takes the enemies out the battle when it actually starts.
Only thing it does is get you their honors early. However, once you liberate the region you get all the honors for any you didn't defeat yet anyway.

One thing I can add about town management is that if you don't have a guard available for a town, just hire a cheap mercenary for the job. 3-7 honors is nothing compared to the resources that guard will get you in the long run (those resources will easily get you that 3-7 honors back and then some in time).

Stationed units will give that regions overworld lootable items when you do battle stages iirc
A stationed guard will automatically collect the resources that spawn in the dig points in that town's area, which spawn one new resource after every few battle stages cleared. You also get a small amount of money after every battle from your stationed guards
