I tried this amazing wide angle beast of a lens on my Lumix G85 to see what kind of sharpness, color rendering, dynamic range, stabilization, low light, and video autofocus it delivers. Juicy bokeh balls ensued.

Hey Ben, like ALXMNR said, I too have the Laowa 7.5 for real estate pics and my company vids, and I LOVE IT!!
BUT, what I also love is my Rokinon 12mm f2, that was like $279!!
At some point when I have time ha ha Ha, I’d love to do a couple reviews on both those lenses.

Looks like an awesome lens, the bokeh balls are great! At the moment i'm very interested also in the newly announced Pana Leica 10-25 f.1.7 even if it will be very expensive and heavy i think it can be one of the greatest lenses for the system and will go great with my 42.5 nocticron!

Thanks Kim! I still have the lens and used it for a bunch of videos, but I’m mostly using my a6400 and G9 w 12-35mm lens these days for RUclips stuff and photos.
Ben Aqua thanks for the reply man and hope you’re doing alright under lockdown! Honest opinion, do you think the lens is worth it for photos? I currently do it with my 17mm 1.8 but wonder if the 12 is a tad too wide?
Yes, it is worth the money. Look all the stunning videos here on YT, and take a look to the technical aspects! Extreme low distortion for that angel, extrem low chromatic abberation, 1.4 usable(!), the elegant nice looking background, the big plus the mechanical outstanding quality with dust and moisturing covering (sorry, I'm German), ok, just on Panasonic GH series, but yes, the overall judgement must be a big YES to this lense.
If it's to expensive for you - than it is not your lense.
If you have the money - you get an awesome peace of hightech for your camera. And you will love it...

This is the first lens I bought and it is my go to lens! I use it on my G85 for vlogging and also for a walk around on my G9. There hasn’t been anything it hasn’t done well. While it was a tad pricey it is worth every penny!

Thanks David! I use the Natural profile on the G85 and G9. I think it looks the best out of all of their color modes!

I used the Natural profile with everything set to 0. I didn’t use any color correction or grading in post! All of these clips are straight out of the camera. I think the G85’s Natural setting does super well at creating a nice looking image!

It's rather unusual to have wide pair up with shallow depth of field, so that's cool. 12mm of course makes it fun for vloggers.
But indeed... the price. That's really where one would have to figure out if the gains are worth the price.
Of course there are as well the Olympus 12mm f/2 and the Laowa with that same aperture but even wider 7.5mm focallength and being all manual.
And I do love my Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO that's rectilinear like the Laowa, but is way too massive for vlogging. So I guess the 12mm f/1.4 does create its own niche.
Agreed, the price is p crazy. 12mm for selfie vlogging shots looks awesome, but is a little too close for comfort lol. It’s like “check out my 4K pores!” I think 7-10mm is my sweet spot for vlogging focal length. But the 1.4 def adds that extra juiciness, which makes this lens super versatile and quality af.
Alright Ben! Nike Flyknits! I ordered one in black with red logo and red sole! I appreciate the thought process that might go into buying this lens, with the consideration of price and weight as important factors. With my current 1.4 lens being the Sigma 16mm, the Leica might be a little too close - nudging into the redundancy category for me. Still, I appreciate the review. An interesting shoot out would be between the 12mm Leica and the 16mm Sigma. Thanks Ben!

Hey Ben. How is the autofocus on the g85? I consider it for vlogging with a 7-14mm lens on. I own sony a7iii but i lacks the flipscreen, which makes it hard to use proberly
Casper! Hi. The G85’s video AF is probably its weakest and most unreliable feature imo. Here’s a vlog I shot using the 7-14mm set to AFC: ruclips.net/video/Zht_bXd9JOU/видео.html - that lens is so wide that the out of focus shots aren’t too noticeable most of the time. The G85 excels at just about everything else tho!

It has been a weirdly Leica day for me today. First I listened to a podcast about how the owner of Leica saved Jews in Germany during WW2, and some other socially responsible actions he and the company stood for. Next I see this video in my suggest feed...finally I find this very lens on eBay for £250 mint condition..so I buy it! Now that is a Leica day for you! I am looking forward to trying it out :-)...A good day for lens I reckon.

You should check out some of the lenses by Laowa. They have a 7.5mm f/2 lens that's great for vlogging (and it's tiny compared to the panasonic 7-14). It's only $500. It's manual though, so I don't know if that's a deal breaker for you. They're also gonna be coming out with a 12mm f/1.8 lens for M43 sometime next year.
Those Laowa lenses look amazing!
The 7.5 is my favorite m43 lens. Although the Panasonic 15mm is quickly catching up.
What do you like about the 15mm? I haven’t tried it yet, but so many people love it!
I really like the field of view. If I compare it to what I see in front of my eyes, it's very close to what I can see directly in front me. It just feels very natural. It's really sharp and I enjoy having the 1.7 aperture. I switched it to it from the 14mm f/2.5. I really liked that lens. It was mega sharp, but I kept getting frustrated with it's speed. The 15 was a huge step in the right direction. If you buy it, I reccomend going for the DJI version on ebay. I was able to get min for a little over $200. That's a really good price, but they commonly sell for around $300.

hi im currently using 60d canon. but planning to move to mft because of stabilization for run and gun shooting on handheld, better sharpness and smaller compact camera easy to carry around. because im tired carrying around the monopod especially during special events like weddings, its kinda took long time to move from monopod to flycam/gimbal. do you think its good? im planning to get g85 with 14-42 lens and 25mm 1.7 because thats the only camera with kit that suits my budget. do you think its kinda miss moving from aps-c to mft? since i always love to shoot scene bokeh for more cinematic, i realize that panasonic have 25mm 1.7 but when converting to 35mm focal length is actually 50mm 3.4 so do you think the bokeh are good enough? i dont really mind about autofocus since i prefer manual focus, on gimbal seems no problem as well for autofocus since its able to tap focus or using focus wheel on gimbal. so i would like to know your opinion since im planning to change my camera very soon. thanks
morpheusmorph yes the G85 w those lenses is a good MFT starter camera for sure! The 25mm f1.7 produces pretty good bokeh.

Yes! It’s an awesome lens for both stills and video. Image quality is super sharp and I love the colors.
it does photography really well. Top notch. Great for landscapes, groups and traveling.

Those prices for for 1.2F lenses are like full frame lenses. Why the heck it's so expensive if I'm getting equivalent of 2.4F on lens that is 1.2F on m43? 🙄

if you compare the ois to 12-35 ii, does it has massive different or just slight? i mean, i bought 12-35 because of the power ois, now im considering to buy this lens.
The 12-35 will be noticeably more stable! But bokeh won't be as juicy

I haven’t tried that lens for m43, but I have it for my a6500 and it’s INCREDIBLE. Super sharp, nice colors, quality build. But it’s gigantic and heavy! Even bigger than the 12mm f1.4, but much cheaper.

It would be almost impossible to sell N/C/S FF 24/2.8 lens for 1300$ and call it "Bokeh BEAST", but not for Panasonic !!! :)

@@ericrjennings it has f/1.4 only for AF points. Weird is that lens for noisy sensor with eq DOF f2.8 costs like 24/1.4 FF lens.
log0log I understand what you’re trying to say but regardless of your opinion of the sensor, it’s still a f/1.4 premium lens. The sensor size has no impact on the lens construction.
@@ericrjennings some people care about numbers and labels, but some - about result. Honor 20pro has also f/1.4 lens, probably also premium.
log0log still missing my point. It’s difficult to make an optically superb lens with an F/1.4 aperture and the other elements besides the aperture this lens has
