I ordered the sigma 16mm lens and get the delivery tommorow. Looking forward to getting good footage off of it. Thank you for your thoughts on this lens also.
Thinking of switching from Sony APS-C to Fuji and love my Sigma 16 and 30 mm primes. Considering adapting them to Fuji. Would love to know if that is worth it vs just buying Viltrox.
Hey Patrick, thanks for stopping by. I love Fuji and I think you will luv it too. I really like Sigma over Viltrox (for the little use I had of Viltrox that is). You might want to keep your sigma with an adapter, at least that is what I’d do. But you might want to give Viltrox a try and see what works best for you. Take care
Thanks for the comparison. I have the Sigma 18-35 which I use handheld on my GH5 but I'm looking for something smaller and fairly wide for my second GH5 which I can have set up on my gimbal. That way I can switch between the two cameras easily. I only have a crane plus gimbal, which definitely won't take the 18-35 but I think might cope with the 16mm. I was going to go for the Pana 15mm but I think you've pushed me towards the Sigma 16mm with this comparison. Thanks.
Hello, thanks for stopping by. If you are planning on doing video vs photography (which am sure you will with a GH5) definitely go with the 16mm from Sigma. I've used it handheld on my GH5 and its amazing. I tried on the 5S also and for film like recordings (small to no stabilisation) it is great. Glad the video could help you chose - take care ;)
Hello Malik, I shot this B-Roll with manual focusing only. I have been a G9 user for a while and I now use a GH5 and 5s. I either use a Gimbal or a rail and have a follow focus wheel or, like in the b-roll of this video, I pre-focus where I want the focus to be, I set up the scene and give the instructions to the cook (in this case). I then shoot that scene a few times until I am satisfied with the focus. Don't necessarily need to have a wide aperture all the time, you can also go with a greater DOF as long as you have enough light in the scene. Hope that answers the question. Take care
Hi Chris, thanks for the review... I think you can change the aperture with the small ring on the top of the GH5, without going throw the menu, have you tried it? how do you find the focus on the Sigma? i've heard it's a bit annoying as is focus by wire.... cheers
Hey man, thanks for stopping by. Yes I change the aperture with the small ring indeed, that is very convenient (having an aperture ring would be much better but so be it). The wire focus is ALWAYS a pain in the butt... at least to me, be it is very usable once you get somewhat used to it 😉 take care
Dude I can't find the 16mm anywhere here , only for e mounts here. But I managed to find the 15mm for the same price. But I wanted it so bad but still went with my gut and didn't get any. I really want the 16 but they only have 15 pani :(. I kinda like to hold the Lens when vlogging though. So I think the 15mm us too small
Hey David, thought I answered this message before but I just found it in the spams for some reason. Did you end up getting one of these 2 lenses? Cheers
Hey man, thanks for stopping by and I understand the struggle! I might do a video on that to share my techniques. Stay tuned! And otherwise, I did the New York institute of photography pro course and lots and lots of searching online. Take care!
I agree 👌🏼 even though the focusing ring is very small on the small Leica lens vs the Sigma and when using a follow-focus wheel on a gimbal it makes it really hard to use. Take care
I bought the pan/leica 15mm in 2018 and it’s great for photos but (as you mentioned) it’s really not ideal for video so now I’m looking at getting the Sigma 16mm because of the larger size and larger aperture. I will keep the pan/leica too.
@@colinthecameraguy for the gh5 I want the sigma but can't find it anywhere, but can the pani. I want to do vlogs and stuff, so videocentric. Do u think I shouldn't get the pani over sigma even tho can't find sigma?
I'd like to know if there's a significant difference between the two in low light performance.
Good question! Unfortunately I don’t own or use these lenses anymore but if anyone knows I’d be curious to know. Cheers

What's the weather sealing like on both???
The Lumix lens ain’t WR but the Sigma one is. Haven’t tested the WR on it but am sure it’s ok. Take care
Do you know if the sigma uses "focus by wire" (the ring controlling a motor) or does the ring actually move the focus mechanically directly?
Hello there, it is focus by wire
I loved the cook B-roll but it was way too fast, It would've been better if it was a bit slower with some slow motions, overall you did a great job :)
Thanks for stopping by Madjid and thanks for the feedback! 😅
Thanks for the feedback and advice Josh - appreciated 😉 take care
Does Sigma 16 mm need adapter on GH5 Panasonic or its allready on MFT and ready to use with no adapter?
Hello Alvis, no adapter needed it is a M43 mount. Take care
Hi! What camera and lens did you use to film the video?
hello Valentina! The broll ? A lumix GH5 and the Sigma 16mm
Take care 😅
I meant what you used to film you talking and stuff (main camera and lens) sorry if I wasn’t clear😅
Oh ok! I shoot with a GH5s and lens wise a Xeen 24mm m43 mount and a Xeen 85mm for the closeups and broll. Cheers 🤩
nice shots, love the camera movement!
Thanks!

Loved the outtakes! Great video editing. You got da skills.👍
Thanks Keith!
Nice review. I went with 15mm due to size. Btw I thought the transitions in your broll was too much. Image quality looked good. Liked and subbed.
Thanks man!
Are u happy with it? I can't find sigma anywhere but can pani so idk what to do
@@davidvictory9764 yes, I am! There's a bit of color cast and flaring in the sun, but otherwise I love the size of it.
Dès les premières secondes je me suis "tiens, c'est un frenchie" lol. Nice work bro 😉

I have question for B.roll which focusing option you using.? manual or contineu foucs.. If manual then how man can maintain focus? I am G9 user

Helo did you film this video with the sigma ?
Hello Amir, no i did not - only had one which I show in the video unfortunately... I did shoot the broll with it though.
Take care
ok, I have 16mm sigma. But the focus ring fly-by-wire is not very good...
True, not my favorite focusing method either
Man is there a course where I can learn how to edit like that? I struggle to even stitch 3 videos well.
Hey man, thanks for stopping by and I understand the struggle! I might do a video on that to share my techniques. Stay tuned! And otherwise, I did the New York institute of photography pro course and lots and lots of searching online. Take care!
the f1.4 and weather sealing makes the lens great
Very true
I focus manually 15mm Leica on gimbal Zhiyun Crane.. and it is so easy to do.
Cool 👌🏼
Great review! Helped me decide which lens to get. Sigma!
Awesome Rick! Glad it could be helpful 😇
I don’t have either but I do have the sigma 30/56mm and wanted to get the 16 sigma or the 15 Panasonic. I’m also on a budget 😂. Thanks for the honesty
I see! Hope you’ll find the best fit for you! Cheers 😉
For gimbal work the Pana-Leica is nice but for image I have to go with the Sigma.

yes i hear you Colin! Did you end up getting the Sigma lens?
@@cris_photography I did, I traded in a 45mm Pan/Leica f2.8 macro lens and an extra £50
Nice!

i think the f1.4 compared to 1.7 makes a big difference.
Wide opened it does indeed
Your broll was worst. You do good explaining.

The BRoll was too fast.. my eyes cant keep up.
