    What’s your favorite prime lens?

    • @WIDEARTMEDIA
      @WIDEARTMEDIA 5 лет назад +3

      25mm f/1.7 on M4/3 (right now) and Sigma 30mm f/1.4 for E-mount :) Those I've used

    • @FlyByFrancis

      My favorite right now is the Panasonic 42.5mm F1.7.
      It's a native lens that's great when paired but with my Lumix G85.

      My favorites would be my Sigma 16mm f1.4 and my Helios 44-2 (with speedbooster).

      20mm f1.7 no doubt. It's versatile, it's a pancake so the camera is super compact. It's sharp and fast.

    I’m thinking of the 12mm but I’m waiting for the 10-25mm f.7 from Leica. That lens will be a game changer.

    the thing is, sensors like the G9 have 20mp and only need the center 8mp for 4k video, which is the sharpest region and gives you 1.4x zoom (extended teleconverter mode) before compression. for stills, you can mount the camera and use High Resolution for equivalent 2x zoom, or just use a format less than 20mp and it will be tack sharp at a fast 1.4 shutter

    Coming from a tv/film background, I always associate wide angle lenses with establishing locations or group shots, but never really for single subject shots (except for perspective effects). It makes so much sense in a smaller home studio though.

    hey nigel i am not even at internmediate level at making videos but i am making fitness related videos on my fitness channel which is 'fitnessinfinity', i need your help. i mainly shot talking head videos indoor and other times brolls in outdoor light or exercise related videos. i am having standard kit lens of 18-55 when i got canon 80d. i have purchased 24mm pancake lens second hand after watching your videos, can you suggest me lens apart of 18-55 because thats too dark in low light and definetly not good with talking head videos. i would be glad if you suggest me which budget lens to get which can help me with talking videos as well and shooting brolls as well, and how and when to use my 18-55 standard kit lens efficiently, or shall i sell it ;)

    Thanks for the video. I really never took the sigma seriously because it lacks on lens aperture control and for photos i almost always use aperture priority.
    For video though, this lens could make a lot of sense, and it is much more rectilinear than the 12mm. The warpy hand motion effect on the 12 is distracting.

    Maybe the Olympus 12mm f2 is a better choice for vlogging. It’s light and you get an extra light as compared to Panasonic 14mm pancake.

    This sounds, but if it all comes down to budget, what would be the only lens you'd shoot with? A sigma 18-35 for example with a viltrox speedbooster? If I am right it would be 36-70 on mft, but with the viltrox 0.71 it is a 25-50. I see, it is not for vlog, but it seems like it could be a way more versatile option.

    I wanted a fast prime for my GH5S with the best autofocus on a gimbal. You have the sigma 16mm F1.4 from this video but also the summilux F1.7 15mm and the 2 from olympus 17mm F1.2 and F1.8. I don't know what to choose.

    Hi Nigel! Great video as always. Was wondering how's the continuous AF on the Sigma 16mm. I am using an Olympus camera and have always worried about the C-AF performance of third party lenses on Olympus body. I know you use Panasonic bodies but if you have any info on that could you let me know, please? Thanks!

    The Sigma is sharper than that Panasonic.. wow! You down played it a little bit, but I see a great difference with a shallower depth of field and sharpness coming from the Sigma. The Sigma also has a more dramatic look. Great video!

    I know you probably don't have these lenses anymore to test but is there anyway you can test the light transmission of each if you have them laying around? My biggest worry is with the pany having a higher t stop. When in Japan I was set on buying an Oly f1.2 but when I tried it I realized it was actually darker than the Pani f1.8. for video this makes a huge distance. I know with those lenses there was way too much glass. Maybe they are identical but just thought I'd ask

    Hello Nigel! Congratulations on the channel and thank you for the videos. I use panasonic gh4 exclusively to record videos and use gimbal a lot for broll. I'm wondering which lens to buy for the gimbal: sigma 16mm 1.4 or olympus 17mm 1.8? I currently use the panasonic 14mm 2.5m and would like to use a faster lens. My gimbal is a Zhiyun Crane V2. Thank you, friend!

    I'm looking for image sharpness for landscape photography. I can't see any need for the 12 over the 16. Is there something, based on your experience, that should push me towards
    the 12? And please, no bokeh :-)

    if not the summilux, i would get the metabones EF ultra and an APSC Sigma Art lens. I’ve owned the 18-35 but don’t like how touchy the focus is, and it’s massive. Something like f0.98 or f1.27 depending on 1.4 or 1.8 original with ultra 0.71x
    wish they made this sigma 1.4 for EF mount, not just sony E or m43

    Hey, I'm kind of a beginner and I just saw the meike 16mm T2.2. What do you think is better in comparison with the sigma 16mm or what's the difference in general?

    • @NigelBarros
      @NigelBarros  5 лет назад +2

      I’d say the sigma is a better option unless you’re wanting to have a follow focus. The meike 16mm has a long focus throw and is designed to be used with a follow focus. The sigma is better for all around stuff but the focus throw is focus by wire

    Hi Nigel! Great comparison - especially because you didn't go into details for geeks haha
    I've got a question. I'm a proud user of G7 with 25mm f/1.7, Viltrox EF-M2 and Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8. Is it worth it to buy a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 and maybe 30mm f/1.4 and get rid of the lenses I have right now? Or maybe the better option will be to get Sigma 18-35mm instead? I'm usually filming weddings and some small commercials by myself using gimbal. Best wishes and can't wait to see more content from you :) BYE!
