I have GH5 with Viltrox and Sigma 18-35 - it is an amazing combo, as you said. But sometimes I'd love to have something more compact, for example while going for a walk or holidays. Otherwise I have to carry my work horse cinema setup all the time haha 16mm is a great option for that!
Hi saw this. I have the panasonic 25 and thinking of a second lens.... might this 16 be it? I make docs on personal stories. Or should i go wider? Thx.
I've been thinking about getting this lens because I hate taking my 18-35 when I go out for the day. Its just so heavy and not weather sealed. I'm hoping that the 16mm can replace it and give me a similar look when I want a lighter set up.
Hi Caleb! What is the focus breathing like? The sensitive focus by wire is a deal-breaker for me! 😔I just wish Panasonic would give us the linear focus settings that they have in their S1H and S5 cameras in a firmware update while we a patiently waiting for the GH6, plus finally give us ProRes Raw to the Ninja V. If Olympus and Z CAM MFT cameras can handle it there is no reason why the GH5’s processor should be found lacking. The only reason for holding back these software upgrades is to have them included in the GH6 so as to make it a must have upgrade!😉🙏🏾
i couldn't agree more on the focus by wire and the pro res raw. i'm actually pretty surprised that pro res raw isn't an option with the gh5. seems like it'd be an easy thing to do.
This lens is my talent walk into gimbal- stay 6 ft out and shoot wide open. looks like full frame-insane! its also great for macro work- 6ft and closer to your subject it looks incredible- gh5 focus transition works beautifully too.
Just snagged this lens today for $150. Figured I have my 42.5 1.7 for long low light and this will cover me for wide low light. It's interesting though going back and watching so many channels and everyone on forums hyping this lens up for a few years and then just crickets ever since. Even on forums people barely mention this lens, but it has some of the highest resolution and contrast on all measurements. It really is in an insane performer on M43 systems. I wonder if the weight/length of lens made it annoying for people and everyone moved on from it? That's how I was able to get it for so cheap. Previous owner hated how huge it was on his GX85.
I used to have the Leica 15mm f/1.7 and liked it a lot, but wasn’t blown away with the performance for the price. Been thinking about the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for a long time as an alternative in a similar focal length for my G9. Helped to see this breakdown on the Sigma with the GH5, thanks Caleb! 😌🤙🏽📸

I have the telephoto for being far away 70-200 2.8, but for my gimbal the 18-35 is too heavy I don't mean too heavy but with the adaptor it makes it to top heavy and I can't get it balanced on my gimbal. I've been using the tamron 17-50 but that's 2.8. It finally came to me that maybe for my gimbal shots to use a prime lens and at 1.4 would be perfect for all the wedding entrances first dances. Do you think this would be a good choice? I also like that it's $400 and also comes in a 4/3 mount. Last could you maybe give me some good ND filters I would want saying if I'm filming a wedding outside. Great Video

Just notice that 18-35 1.8 becomes (with speedbooster) 1.3 only lightwise, not bokehwise. I've got the 16 1.4 for the pocket 4k, but it is really weird using it with this digital focus ring and distortion. I got it just to have a native m43 lens but i only use it for personal projects. Try following objects with this non autofocus camera and you will hate the digital focus ring. And also this lens doen't give you a 32-35mm lens look. It gives you a 24mm full frame look, which means that close portraits are distorted, just like in any wide lens, only that you get a crop of that distorted image in m43 sensors. I hope I make sense.
I got lucky Caleb! I got hold of a used Summilux 12mm for 600 usd! It's beautiful! Works great in low light situations. Works best inside. Outside, for night street filming, my old AF Nikkor f1.4D is still tops with a 0.64 Metabones. So now, I'm completely covered!
@@OceanieZeros right, for video it is very true. I find no need to buy any prime lens around the focal range of sigma 18-35. Unless it is a f0.95 lens. But those lens is not very good wide open anyway.

Sigma 16mm f1.4 was the first lens I got for my mft system and I love it. Sharp and great for low light and has some decent out of focus background. But lately I got the Voitlander 25mm f0.95 and am thinking of letting go the Sigma 16mm. The only problem with the Voigtlander is the color shift at wide open aperture and also that is not weather sealed, but the focus ring is the best there is. Any feedback on which lens I should keep? I also own the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8.
I get some wobbly footage (similar to warp stab in Premiere Pro) with the Sigma 16mm and the option to set the focal length is greyed out for me.. Anyone else with this issue? Or does anyone know any other solution to get rid of this? Thanks.
I was going say because you saw my 1st impressions video. Lol. Just kidding, Besides your video was uploaded before mine. So that would be kind of impossible. Enough jokes. Great shots. I shot with a M50 but the glass brings out the best of the sensor of what ever body it's on. Nice work.
Love that lens! I bought the 30mm too, and now I'm looking for a good deal on the 56mm :-) It's a pretty great series of lenses and covers a lot of ground. Awesome value!
Regarding the stabilisation - my GH5 must be broken - not really amazing stabilisation... At the "video/tripod/stabilisation" its ok of course - as long as you don't move the camera much :-)
That’s interesting. I have a lot of gripes with my Panasonic but the stabilization has never been one of them. I’ve tried every brand of camera and I can’t find one that beats a Panasonic GH5 in terms of its in body stabilization. Do you have the Panasonic 12-32? That is the lens where I really see the stabilization work in the regular shooting mode. And mine is the original 12-32 not even the one that is supposed to have better stabilization. From my other lenses they do best in variable mode but with the 12-32it looks buttery smooth at 24FPS. After writing this I’m now confused is it 12-32 or 12-35. I’ve got to stop commenting after midnight.
Thanks for very useful and inspiring GH5 related videos.I am in the market for a wide fast prime for my GH5. In my list "Sigma 16mm F1.4 405 g /0.89 lb" VS "Leica 15mm F1.7 115 g /0.25 lb". My aim is to have a very light weight, carry around wide prime fast lens. It will help me to carry GH5 with me daily to practice and learn video techniques. I am leaning towards to Leica 15mm F1.7, which it will make GH5 super portable.

tell me your thoughts about this 2 lenses, so I can decide, thank you! I hope for an answer! Ciao
I use this lens on my Sony a6400. I want a gh5, think the two cameras will pair well?
they're a bit different but if you can get the colors to match up you should be good
@@CalebHoover any way to adapt my Sony apsc lenses? I know you and Bobby talk about canon mount but to get me started would my Sony glass work? Thanks for the reply!
I also own the Olympus 12-40mm f2.8.
i would much rather have the voitlander focus ring but the clarity of the sigma wide open. maybe in the perfect world 😂
Keep them both. Different lenses for different scenarios.
hubiera sido ideal que pongas el numero de DN que estas usando en el video y ejemplos ......ND32???
Caleb can u tell me where to buy a eyecup like yours?
absolutely! such a great piece of gear amzn.to/2IpaaXx
Love my Sig16 on my Sony A6500! Great video thanks !
Thanks for watching!
Sigma 16mm f1.4 or Leica 15mm f/1.7 ? how autofucus?
auto focus meh. always wishing it was better. 🤷♂️
may I ask if you ever got round to testing the LUT I sent you a month or two ago?
Yup. All about that lens.
🙌
Great video bro
Appreciate it
Is this lens good for film making ?
Just got the same lens yesterday for my gh5 😙
Amazing lens, but does anyone else get a bit of resistance when mounting it on the gh5?
Its nice indeed but impossible to pull focus with.
My favourite lens. Use it with the GH4.
right on!
Nice work.
😂 i'll have to go check out the vid! link?
@@CalebHoover lol. Here it is if you want to take a peek. ruclips.net/video/6cvIuLoG23k/видео.html
so can i use sigma 16mm f1.4 in lumix s5 ???
Love that lens! I bought the 30mm too, and now I'm looking for a good deal on the 56mm :-)
It's a pretty great series of lenses and covers a lot of ground. Awesome value!
yeah i totally agree. i'd be down with having this set of primes.
this is one of the first lenses I got sold it had some regret ..how do you feel this compares to the 18-35 in terms of image?
i feel like the image is really good but maybe not totally on par with the 18-35. still really good tho
@@CalebHoover wow..idk if i had a bad copy or bad setup..I had the nikon version with a really cheap speedbooster made by viltrox
Hi bro, i use a Sigma 16mm Sony for my sony camera. Can i use this same lens in GH5 or i need an adapter?
Thanks bro 🙏🏻
there might be an adapter but not totally sure. the sigma 16mm has an actual version of the mft mount
Regarding the stabilisation - my GH5 must be broken - not really amazing stabilisation... At the "video/tripod/stabilisation" its ok of course - as long as you don't move the camera much :-)
try it with some of the variable frame rate options and it's really good. i actually think that's when it's best.
How do you manage the X-pattern that the K&F variable ND creates?
I have the same filter on the same lens and I've got that problem
i haven't noticed it too much. i try not to close it all the way
It is just the connector which is weather sealed, not the whole lens...
I have no Sigma glass.
This video makes me want to go get some Sigma glass lolz
link download firmware 16mm mft
sigma 16mm uncompressed? Sharpnes=massacre! compressed? sharp like a katana but nobody get hurt^^
I am leaning towards to Leica 15mm F1.7, which it will make GH5 super portable.
yeah the leica would be a bit smaller but the sigma 16mm is a bit cheaper i think. both are good options.
