Wacken was 10 months after Floor joined the band, on 48 hours notice - asked to fly from the Netherlands to Seattle, and learn a 15 song set list on the flight over. She pulled it off - they pulled it off (there is a documentary about this whole experience that is really worth watching). Over the next months they slowly opened up the play list, that had been limited by the previous singer, as Floor proved her abilities to sing………….. anything! By the time they reached Wacken, they had realized what they had become as a band, with the ultimate singer that fit their style without limit. Marco, the bassist and other singer, said he finally could sing without worrying about overwhelming the female lead. Emppu and Floor developed a pranking relationship, evident in an earlier track in this same concert where he turns off her in-ear….. You saw in your previous reaction where Floor salutes Jukka, the drummer, at the end of the song. Floor referred to her bandmates as her “brothers”. And Tuomas, the band leader, and main song writer - watch for the smile he has when Floor hits some of her best notes, in this song, and throughout the concert. He had finally found the singer who could bring his compositions to their full potential! This was a band at its best, feeling their best - headlining a concert in front of 82,000 fans! Floor Jansen has done a version of Lara's song "Adagio". She recorded it at her home studio in Sweden for all her fans during the pandemic. You are just starting to hear how many colors Floor brings vocally! This is a little heavier, but still straight ahead. There will be more softer stuff to come. I really think you will love Floor's cover version. She has done many of them over the last year. Since you are not really a metal guy, feel free to skip to some of the less metal ones they do. look for the general descriptions of the song after the link. Floor's performances from the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers in 2019, are also probably more in your wheelhouse. You will really start to see how versatile Floor is as a vocalist. Maybe the best on the planet. She can literally sing almost any genre.
Nightwish themselves also did a Phantom of the Opera, if you want to check out their original vocalist, Tarja. She was/is also quite amazing in her own right, albeit stylistically totally different from Floor. But yeah, Nightwish's Phantom of the Opera (Live!!) rendition is a fantastic performance, and it's quite a bit further back in their band history (2005).

This was Floor’s first show as a permanent member. She toured on invitation in 2012, when they lost their singer Annette. This in itself tells you how good she is. They do look like they have been together for years.
No, she became a member of Nightwish on 9th October 2013, just two months AFTER this show on the 9th August, although she had been a touring stand-in up until then from 1st October 2012 (for which she famously only had 48 hours notice). She was invited a bit earlier, in the hotel bar after the Sauna Open Air at Tampere, Finland on June 8th 2013, and had agreed, but had to finish her second (and as it turned out, final) album "Wild Card" with her own band, ReVamp, and get it released first. There was apparently a contractual obligation that meant she could not become a member of another band until then. That happened on 23rd August 2013 (26th in the US), so Floor had a busy month! She then went to tour the album (during which she met her husband, Hannes Van Dahl - the drummer for Sabaton) and did have hopes of keeping ReVamp going alongside her position in Nightwish, but ReVamp eventually disbanded on 29th September 2016.

this entire concert was magic, the skies opened up the gods smiled down the stars and planets aligned and magic happened. Nightwish came to party and 82,000 fans got to witness it. Floor had been with the band for 10 months at this time replacing the previous and second singer in the middle of the tour. she had to learn 15 songs in 48 hours .

If you're going to react to Floor's Phantom of The Opera, please try Nightwish's version fron "The end of an era" concert, too. It's totally mind-blowing.
I can never get enough of the opening of this song....it just gets my blood pumping when they all come in! And also...while Floor is our queen, our empress, our goddess, we can NOT diminish just how amazing Marko is as a singer as well. He is considered by many as the Godfather of metal in Finland since he has been out there for so long. And one song that I can never recommend enough is their cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" from their 2005 End of an Era concert. Their singer at the time (Tarja Turunen, who is a legend in her own right) sat out for that one and it is ALL Marko driving the boat, and is still, to this day, one of my favorite performances of both his and Emppu's (a.k.a. Thank you for your insightful reaction. I saw your previous, first reaction to Nightwish and specifically the GREAT Floor Jansen. I feel like we're kindred spirits. I am a soon to be 75 year old former professional musician who performed in Greenwich Village, mostly. I started as a classical pianist before rebelling, teaching myself guitar and heading to Greenwich Village where I performed literally thousands of times. I also crave music that is well played, and if the artist can actually perform well enough, anf understands that the best performances are when the singer, or actor, not only feels something, but is capable of making others understand and feel what they are communicating. Very very few can do both. The first time I came across Nightwish was, of course, Floor's Wachen performance, and was totally blown away. She's simply the best vocslist/performer I had ever experienced, and I have experienced many. That performance is simply the best live singing performance I have ever experienced. You crushed your reaction. It was almost exactly the same as mine. Later.
I love how there’s always a moment in their songs where they actively engage with the audience. It’s like, “This our song, let’s do it together!”. How can their fans not feel their love and appreciation?

Hello That's Not Acting Either! Sadly, I didnt catch your first Nightwish reaction but I'm thrilled that you reacted to this song. It's one of my favourites - except for all the others. The hallmark of this band is variety, and every song sounds different. You could certainly do much, much worse than following Gabriel's suggestion list and I'm happy to hear you will seek out more of Floor's work apart from Nightwish. You mentioned her performance of "The Phantom Of The Opera" in the 2019 season of the Dutch TV show "Beste Zangers". That song was done with her childood hero, Henk Poort, who played the Phantom in the original Dutch stage production (and was allegedly Andrew Lloyd Webber's favourite Phantom.) That version used a variation of the Nightwish musical arrangement of the song, and I think it is worth checking out the 2005 Nightwish performance of the song with their first lead singer, Tarja Turunen. That is an epic performance, with the Phantom sung by Nightwish bassist Marco Hietala, and I think you would find it interesting to compare and contrast with Floor's version. I can already tell you are going to love your journey into the music of both Floor and Nightwish. Have fun!

The keyboardist composes everything and there’s almost always a deep meaningful story behind the songs. TGSOE is the peak of amazing story telling, song writing and performance.
I must say that its always amazing to see reactions from new people having heard Nightwish for the first time. Army is perfect description for their fan base!!! Floor is our Valkyrie Queen and thee true musical Goddess!!! There is none greater and none more worthy of being given this title!!! They are the GREATEST band today. While other bands of the same genre are good( Epica, Moonspell, Therion) to name a few, Nightwish are the true masters!!!!!! You have now been baptized!!!!!
This is our Valkyrie Goddess for you. And you witnessed first hand a "Dutch Windmill" and you felt it 😁. Floor has 3 distinct styles. Head banging(straight forward, then back), hair whip(almost like cracking a bull whip) and the Windmill(continuous 360 degree revolutions). Why Windmill? Well she is Dutch. And to finish you off, The Operatic "Cruise Missile" !!!! Awesome tune , although it is kind of a popish sound (originally sung by Anette), but Floor gave it soooo much POWER !!! Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist and songwriter of Nightwish) is the main composer for Nightwish. Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. Nightwish lyrics are often a bit interpretive, and not as "straight forward" as many other bands, because Tuomas prefers people to put their own interpretations and life experiences into the lyrics. you connect with songs on a personal level when there is something there that relates to things you have gone/are going through, and you may even find new connections later on in life when you have gone through other big events/emotions. there might be songs you are quite indifferent about (oh, nice song) and then you go through something big and all of a sudden it makes you break down in tears because now you relate to something in the lyrics you didn't before, and see it from a whole new perspective. imagination and life experiences are powerful, and Tuomas has great appreciation of this. Excellent reaction 👍 Last time you opened the door to the Nightwish Universe - this time you took the first step into this world of phenomenal storytelling. Yes Floor is a phenomenal singer and performer - probably the best in our time, maybe ever (you ain't seen or experienced nothing yet!!) - and yes the compositions and the lyrics are - incredible. This band has what it takes - and more. Just wait until you experience some of their ballads and power ballads - epic stories, performed so the onion ninjas might give you a visit. Floor is that good! And you are very observant - that is great, because you might get a lot of details already in your first listen to their songs. But still, they are built and performed in so many layers that it is impossible to get it all - especially in their more epic ones. And still, the songs are written to be individually interpreted, from your own memories and experiences - from the red line in the lyrics. I’ve come as a youngster from the days of Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple and followed by the likes Judas Priest AC/DC and Heart I can safely say nothing has affected me like Nightwish and Floor Jansen. I’m like a 17 year old kid again
Having been around metal since the same heady days, and getting utterly off my face with Hawkwind before their set at Stonehenge Festival the last year before Maggie went power-mad and banned it, I can only agree.
Smiling Tuomas (Maestro, on the keys) is one of my fav part of this one performance 🙂 And of course nice reaction, I love to see how new memebers of NW army are coming in 😉
It is interesting to see how intense he was during the earlier years, trying to write to the voices he had available. When Floor came on board and gave him an almost unlimited palette, as well as utter command of an audience, you can visibly see him relax and enjoy the show. The smile was rare up until then. Check out the live video of Amaranth from this concert, and see the moment when Floor has the crowd so under her spell that Tuomas puts his hands on his head in amazement!
The drummer is a pure master, and he was playing while dealing with insomnia and intense migraines. The man was dedicated. He has since left the drum seat, now dealing with more background operations of the band.
Another soul well and truly snatched by our Valkyrie Queen! Very cool how you already recognized the interaction between the band on stage and how that spreads to the audience, Nightwish is more than a band, it is a family and by that interaction the crowd becomes one of the family as well. Nightwish Army is, for sure, one of the best fanbases on this planet. Beeing part of it feels just right! We love the music, we love the band, we love everything and hell do we love reviews of their Songs ;-) Everyone of us is here for a different reason but listening to the music together and talking about it just adds SO MUCH MORE to it. Usually you just listen to music and may watch a concert but having a huge and active community that shares insights, talks about all kinds of details and, of course, listens to their favourite songs without borders and restrictions over the internet that's just great. I know, there are other communities that do these things but I think the Nightwish Army is a very special and unique one... LOVE to all of you! Oh and WE KNOW Gabriel... for sure!

Whether you use earbuds or good headphones, if the come w wifi, they prolly have an EQ setting you can tweak... you want high volume and maximum bass! Speaking of bass...you have yet to discover the second vocalist in Nightwish...bassist (w the top shelf beard game!) Marko Hietala...you're in for an awesome surprise when you hit a song where he shares (or leads) vocals! Dunno what order The List is in, but good to keep it simple, you'll get there! Let's talk drummers! You are enjoying original drummer, Jukka... (really, could you even imagine a mediocre musician in this band?!) Who is so talented, and he plays w a style that actually makes his job more dofficult...you'll notice that he's not just fast, but also a hard hitter! For each crash down, he actually lifts his arms UP to come down...which takes a ton of energy! In more recent shows, you will see, on drums, Kai Hahto...and he *might* be even better! In time... I recently discovered Nightwish while recovering from Covid with NO JABS in my past NATURAL recovery from a weapon meant to kill us all from CHI-NA! I feel like I was fighting for my life and NIGHTWISH gave me HOPE! STRENGTH AND LOVE!
Totally agree man i think you were trying to say that she has this incredible ability to convey the different emotions that the song is meant to make you feel not only with her presence and her body language but shes truly mastered her instrument to the point that it's like she is a SIREN. Shes such an Empathic person that she knows exactly how to make someone that's paying attention feel what shes wanting them to feel from song to song. I've seen many reactors be in tears and be smiling and cheesing so hard. There will never be another Floor Jansen in our Lifetime. I hope she gets her flowers while shes here because she deserves it.
Hi Brandon, The Nightwish Army is here! Gabriels list is a good guide, you don't have to stick to the order :-) I like the bit of research and history notes, learnt something new today. She moulds and shapes her voice in so many ways. Yes, the whole band are obviously happy, having agreed in private to keep Floor. The mixing desk at this show was on top form. Jukka has a great style on the drums, like a sprinter on the starting blocks. Love the way Floor usually ramps it up over the length of the song (Ah, ReVamp). Clear tone, yep, for this one... Oh, they've got "Noise"! Awesome video too. Her being a vocal coach too, she admits to being a vocal explorer and nerd.
You do have me litteraly down in tears right now. Not only was this litterally the most defining moment in Nightwishs history, still sporting Yuca and Marco with the band, but at the same time: me really finally hooked to them. Since you are not really a metal guy, feel free to skip to some of the less metal ones they do. look for the general descriptions of the song after the link. Floor's performances from the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers in 2019, are also probably more in your wheelhouse. You will really start to see how versatile Floor is as a vocalist. Maybe the best on the planet. She can literally sing almost any genre.
Nightwish themselves also did a Phantom of the Opera, if you want to check out their original vocalist, Tarja. She was/is also quite amazing in her own right, albeit stylistically totally different from Floor. But yeah, Nightwish's Phantom of the Opera (Live!!) rendition is a fantastic performance, and it's quite a bit further back in their band history (2005).

This was Floor’s first show as a permanent member. She toured on invitation in 2012, when they lost their singer Annette. This in itself tells you how good she is. They do look like they have been together for years.
No, she became a member of Nightwish on 9th October 2013, just two months AFTER this show on the 9th August, although she had been a touring stand-in up until then from 1st October 2012 (for which she famously only had 48 hours notice).
She was invited a bit earlier, in the hotel bar after the Sauna Open Air at Tampere, Finland on June 8th 2013, and had agreed, but had to finish her second (and as it turned out, final) album "Wild Card" with her own band, ReVamp, and get it released first. There was apparently a contractual obligation that meant she could not become a member of another band until then. That happened on 23rd August 2013 (26th in the US), so Floor had a busy month! She then went to tour the album (during which she met her husband, Hannes Van Dahl - the drummer for Sabaton) and did have hopes of keeping ReVamp going alongside her position in Nightwish, but ReVamp eventually disbanded on 29th September 2016.

Floor had been only 10 months in Nightwish before this concert and she was not yet even an official member of the band bu she leaned the songs quickly and made them her own.

Those of us that were in the industry and are now coning into the industry, this is what we strive to get to. I used to do Rock Symphonies and this is so in my wheel house and I LOVE it. In my opinion this is the best.
this entire concert was magic, the skies opened up the gods smiled down the stars and planets aligned and magic happened. Nightwish came to party and 82,000 fans got to witness it. Floor had been with the band for 10 months at this time replacing the previous and second singer in the middle of the tour. she had to learn 15 songs in 48 hours .

I can never get enough of the opening of this song....it just gets my blood pumping when they all come in! And also...while Floor is our queen, our empress, our goddess, we can NOT diminish just how amazing Marko is as a singer as well. He is considered by many as the Godfather of metal in Finland since he has been out there for so long.
And one song that I can never recommend enough is their cover of Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" from their 2005 End of an Era concert. Their singer at the time (Tarja Turunen, who is a legend in her own right) sat out for that one and it is ALL Marko driving the boat, and is still, to this day, one of my favorite performances of both his and Emppu's (a.k.a. The Elf). In fact....

Thank you for your insightful reaction. I saw your previous, first reaction to Nightwish and specifically the GREAT Floor Jansen. I feel like we're kindred spirits. I am a soon to be 75 year old former professional musician who performed in Greenwich Village, mostly. I started as a classical pianist before rebelling, teaching myself guitar and heading to Greenwich Village where I performed literally thousands of times. I also crave music that is well played, and if the artist can actually perform well enough, anf understands that the best performances are when the singer, or actor, not only feels something, but is capable of making others understand and feel what they are communicating. Very very few can do both. The first time I came across Nightwish was, of course, Floor's Wachen performance, and was totally blown away. She's simply the best vocslist/performer I had ever experienced, and I have experienced many. That performance is simply the best live singing performance I have ever experienced. You crushed your reaction. It was almost exactly the same as mine. Later.
I love how there’s always a moment in their songs where they actively engage with the audience. It’s like, “This our song, let’s do it together!”. How can their fans not feel their love and appreciation?

Sadly, I didnt catch your first Nightwish reaction but I'm thrilled that you reacted to this song. It's one of my favourites - except for all the others. The hallmark of this band is variety, and every song sounds different. You could certainly do much, much worse than following Gabriel's suggestion list and I'm happy to hear you will seek out more of Floor's work apart from Nightwish. You mentioned her performance of "The Phantom Of The Opera" in the 2019 season of the Dutch TV show "Beste Zangers". That song was done with her childood hero, Henk Poort, who played the Phantom in the original Dutch stage production (and was allegedly Andrew Lloyd Webber's favourite Phantom.) That version used a variation of the Nightwish musical arrangement of the song, and I think it is worth checking out the 2005 Nightwish performance of the song with their first lead singer, Tarja Turunen. That is an epic performance, with the Phantom sung by Nightwish bassist Marco Hietala, and I think you would find it interesting to compare and contrast with Floor's version. I can already tell you are going to love your journey into the music of both Floor and Nightwish. Have fun!

The keyboardist composes everything and there’s almost always a deep meaningful story behind the songs. TGSOE is the peak of amazing story telling, song writing and performance.

I must say that its always amazing to see reactions from new people having heard Nightwish for the first time. Army is perfect description for their fan base!!! Floor is our Valkyrie Queen and thee true musical Goddess!!! There is none greater and none more worthy of being given this title!!! They are the GREATEST band today. While other bands of the same genre are good( Epica, Moonspell, Therion) to name a few, Nightwish are the true masters!!!!!! You have now been baptized!!!!!

This is our Valkyrie Goddess for you. And you witnessed first hand a "Dutch Windmill" and you felt it 😁. Floor has 3 distinct styles. Head banging(straight forward, then back), hair whip(almost like cracking a bull whip) and the Windmill(continuous 360 degree revolutions). Why Windmill? Well she is Dutch.
And to finish you off, The Operatic "Cruise Missile" !!!!
Awesome tune , although it is kind of a popish sound (originally sung by Anette), but Floor gave it soooo much POWER !!!
Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist and songwriter of Nightwish) is the main composer for Nightwish.
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.
Nightwish lyrics are often a bit interpretive, and not as "straight forward" as many other bands, because Tuomas prefers people to put their own interpretations and life experiences into the lyrics. you connect with songs on a personal level when there is something there that relates to things you have gone/are going through, and you may even find new connections later on in life when you have gone through other big events/emotions. there might be songs you are quite indifferent about (oh, nice song) and then you go through something big and all of a sudden it makes you break down in tears because now you relate to something in the lyrics you didn't before, and see it from a whole new perspective. imagination and life experiences are powerful, and Tuomas has great appreciation of this.

Last time you opened the door to the Nightwish Universe - this time you took the first step into this world of phenomenal storytelling. Yes Floor is a phenomenal singer and performer - probably the best in our time, maybe ever (you ain't seen or experienced nothing yet!!) - and yes the compositions and the lyrics are - incredible. This band has what it takes - and more. Just wait until you experience some of their ballads and power ballads - epic stories, performed so the onion ninjas might give you a visit. Floor is that good!
And you are very observant - that is great, because you might get a lot of details already in your first listen to their songs. But still, they are built and performed in so many layers that it is impossible to get it all - especially in their more epic ones. And still, the songs are written to be individually interpreted, from your own memories and experiences - from the red line in the lyrics.
You will enjoy this journey into the Nightwish Universe of Symphonic Metal.

Having been around metal since the same heady days, and getting utterly off my face with Hawkwind before their set at Stonehenge Festival the last year before Maggie went power-mad and banned it, I can only agree.
Smiling Tuomas (Maestro, on the keys) is one of my fav part of this one performance 🙂

It is interesting to see how intense he was during the earlier years, trying to write to the voices he had available. When Floor came on board and gave him an almost unlimited palette, as well as utter command of an audience, you can visibly see him relax and enjoy the show. The smile was rare up until then. Check out the live video of Amaranth from this concert, and see the moment when Floor has the crowd so under her spell that Tuomas puts his hands on his head in amazement!

The drummer is a pure master, and he was playing while dealing with insomnia and intense migraines. The man was dedicated. He has since left the drum seat, now dealing with more background operations of the band.
Another soul well and truly snatched by our Valkyrie Queen! Very cool how you already recognized the interaction between the band on stage and how that spreads to the audience, Nightwish is more than a band, it is a family and by that interaction the crowd becomes one of the family as well. Nightwish Army is, for sure, one of the best fanbases on this planet. Beeing part of it feels just right! We love the music, we love the band, we love everything and hell do we love reviews of their Songs ;-) Everyone of us is here for a different reason but listening to the music together and talking about it just adds SO MUCH MORE to it. Usually you just listen to music and may watch a concert but having a huge and active community that shares insights, talks about all kinds of details and, of course, listens to their favourite songs without borders and restrictions over the internet that's just great. I know, there are other communities that do these things but I think the Nightwish Army is a very special and unique one...

Dunno why your audio kept going up and down thru out. Whether you use earbuds or good headphones, if the come w wifi, they prolly have an EQ setting you can tweak... you want high volume and maximum bass!
Speaking of bass...you have yet to discover the second vocalist in Nightwish...bassist (w the top shelf beard game!) Marko Hietala...you're in for an awesome surprise when you hit a song where he shares (or leads) vocals! Dunno what order The List is in, but good to keep it simple, you'll get there!
Let's talk drummers! You are enjoying original drummer, Jukka... (really, could you even imagine a mediocre musician in this band?!) Who is so talented, and he plays w a style that actually makes his job more dofficult...you'll notice that he's not just fast, but also a hard hitter! For each crash down, he actually lifts his arms UP to come down...which takes a ton of energy! In more recent shows, you will see, on drums, Kai Hahto...and he *might* be even better! In time...

First time I saw Floor live was in 2002, with Penumbra, Autumn and To Elysium. Floor was still singing in After Forever back then and boy was it awesome! Got her autograph on the back of my ticket and still clinging on to it dearly. Love your reactions good sir. Keep it coming! #subbed ;)

Totally agree man i think you were trying to say that she has this incredible ability to convey the different emotions that the song is meant to make you feel not only with her presence and her body language but shes truly mastered her instrument to the point that it's like she is a SIREN. Shes such an Empathic person that she knows exactly how to make someone that's paying attention feel what shes wanting them to feel from song to song. I've seen many reactors be in tears and be smiling and cheesing so hard. There will never be another Floor Jansen in our Lifetime. I hope she gets her flowers while shes here because she deserves it.
