You don't need a "metalhead certificate" to appreciate Nightwish's well-composed and well-performed music. I think it would be easier for you to fit them into "known patterns" if you consider that you are attending an opera, or a piece of musical theater, performed with modern instruments, specific to the metal genre. I understand your surprise, but in my opinion, with your training, you are closer to their music than you think.
You can find the list you're talking about in my comments on your first reaction to Nightwish (Ghost Love Score) - I noticed that one of the fans already copied it in a comment. It's a collection of their most popular songs, and you've already reacted to some of them. You're cool.
Yes, sir. The very first commenter actually posted it here for me. And I do agree. Watching them perform a piece is absolutely likened to experiencing an opera or an exceptional piece of musical theatre. I honestly was just not aware that there is a music genre out there that could wield the same power until I found -- or rather, was led to this band.

@@tnae Ayreon is another 'band' that you might check out. Arjen Lucassen is another great contemporary composer of, in his case, (rock) opera's. Most people start with The Day That the World Breaks Down and then do various songs from the Ayreon Universe and the Electric Castle live performances. I have not made my mind up if Nightwish Wacken 2013 or Ayreon Universe is the best concert I have ever seen (online, unfortunately not in person)

Something that just occurred to me - when the band members are seated around the drum kit during the last section, Tuomas is all alone at his keyboards. It really was a profound statement about the isolation he must have been feeling. Then as the song progresses, Marko and Emppu move to him, then the end, Floor stands and looks over to him. It's a "You're not alone anymore." moment.
In case someone didn't know, it's very much by design. They've done it since the song was first performed live back in 2007.

Nightwish healed my broken soul. I´ve released buckets of tears and pain in the past years after discovering them. I´m left with awe and beauty of the world. Life will never be the same.

@@tnae Thanks, I didn´t even realise this was a thing until I experienced it myself.Nightwish is literally medicine for the soul and so much more potent than any therapy, conventional medicine and rehabilitation in hospitals after dealing with chronic illness for a decade. Nightwish changed the way I look at my life and the world around me. I pinch myself everyday, so grateful :D
@@laudatosiadastra1218I always say I’m grateful to the pandemic because it brought me symphonic metal and nightwish. I’ve not found a band in so long that has touched me, and continues to touch me everytime, like this band. Even with tarja. Her and floor are so diff but both so extremely amazing in their own way. And the band chemistry has been there 100% for both. I prob heard this song 10 times before I realized the beg was the end and the end the beg. It’s those purposeful moments that thuomas writes that blow me away. My life has been shit the last couple years, really bad, and this song always makes me feel less alone and like someone else gets it. The hopelessness he felt wanting to end it all and him showing what that would’ve looked like. But then at the end he shows the love of his family was what saved him. So many of us can relate to that. Their music just hits you next level than anything else I’ve ever heard.

This song is something so personal to Tuomas, and he expressed his inner self, and the torment he was going through after firing his dear friend Tarja. He wrote the song, in which he commits suicide, so he wouldn't do it for real.
For those of us who have lived with depression, silently, without any hope of finding a way out...this song gives you a way out without taking that final step. I spent 15 years trying to get out of the pain by drinking! I always had a fifth of rum, a few 2 liter bottles of Coke, and plenty of limes in my apartment! I put on a happy face at work...but it was just a facade.
In 1999, July 31, I stopped...stopped being depressed, drinking...all of it! I am happy to say that I am 23 years and 13 days sober! I don't miss it at all!
Reading your comment I wanted to respond but as I opened the reply window I found myself wishing I was starting a video call or dialing your number on my phone. First, let me say that it brings me a lot of joy to hear that you have been living so long in sobriety and that you are still here on this earth with me and all these other wonderful people. I am 100% certain that this world is a better, more complete place for having you in it.
I have struggled and battled against depression and su^^idal thoughts and ideation most of my life. I too can proudly and happily say that I am...well, working toward being happy and that I have my family and these videos to bring me a sense of purpose and belonging.

Congrats on your sobriety. As someone who lost a brother to drugs, I REALLY mean that. Know that you have an entire afterlife full of those that didn’t make it rooting for you. And I know they are. So you are never alone!! Let’s just say my life the last couple years has been the worst, and the most gut wrenching I’ve ever had. And I’ve not been handling it the best. I hear this song and it’s like someone else gets it. Gets how that feels, and I’m not alone. I bawl everytime I hear this lately it touches me so much. So you’re not alone there either. Your reactions to this one and The Greatest Show on Earth were incredible. Unlike any reactions I've seen with Nightwish and believe me I've watched several. There have been many great reactions that included professional musicians, vocalists, classically trained, producers, and others that just appreciate the musicianship, vocals, the compositions, lyrics, and everything else that goes into creating the music of Nightwish. Your in-depth descriptions of what you are feeling and experiencing are appreciated. It doesn't matter how many times I watch a Nightwish live video, I still experience the chills, goosebumps, hair standing on end, and the awe that moves me to tears in a good way from Floors vocals along with the musicians that put on a great performance. I also experience the same emotions that you have expressed. I'm 70 and I hope to attend a Nightwish concert, as it's my favorite band and Floor is my all-time favorite singer. Thank You for your reactions, this is the 4th one I've seen, and I look forward to all of the other ones you've done for Nightwish.
There are actually two more versions of this song, one sung by the former singer Anette Olzon and another sung by only Marko. Both are really good but seem to lack the power and intensity that Floor brings to it. She took a really good composition and turned it into a truly epic one. Her emotional connection to this is simply unparalleled. And Tuomas - what an absolute genius.
I do agree with your thoughts about Floor's contribution to this song and any piece of music she sings. A willingness to surrender completely to a moment and bend to its breathing is something that too few artist possess as she does.
Sorry but the album version by Anette is totally lacking in empathy, control or ability. Agreed the Marko demo version is good but Floor takes it to another level.
@@tnae Floor is an empath, which I believe adds to her ability to bend to the meaning of the song. I read somewhere she could not look at Tuomas during this song as she is afraid she could not continue knowing how much of himself he exposed in writing it.

The song "The Poet and the Pendulum" is a 13 Minute journey through the mind and turmoil of Tuomas Holopainen after the year 2005. It was in that year the band parted with their long-time singer Tarja Turunen and had a personal falling out with her. The pain of the separation was big on both sides, and shown in this song. There is guilt for what happened, there is the responsibility that the band and Holopainen had to show towards the fans,. It was the End of an Era for them, and reason for Holopainen being lost as described in these lyrics. We can only of course to a certain degree suppose how much of these are truly Holopainen's feelings, wishes and pains - but we do know that the lyrics of Nightwish have been up to then very personal. Other songs on the album also digest this separation and falling out of the members with Turunen.
However personal and "real" these thoughts are, I feel like this song definitely takes us not only on a journey with Holopainen but also into ourselves. The music underlines the emotional gravity of the song extremely well. And I believe a lot of people can actually relate to a sense of guilt and being overwhelmed that all they desired for is the safety of home and innocence. While being personal, the song can still ring true to it's listener. That's a quality Nighwish possesses in many, many more songs. The emotional journey is one we can all share and very few bands know how to put that journey into song and especially into sound as well as Nightwish does.
The band remains through all it's shores and Oceans, one of my main favourites and I hold special place for the band in my musical heart. I hope you have enjoyed reading my analysis and share some of my thoughts. If you do have any comments, please feel free to let me know. And remember the beauty of interpretation is that it is subjective; we can see all and feel different things in the same song and continue to love it endlessly.

Now that you know more of the context of the song, I hope you don't get too much shit for describing how much fun the band appears to be having...I get what you're seeing, but in this case, you've misread the visual ques...the band, (Tuomas, Marko and Emppu) are reliving their pain in this performance, and are gathering, specifically, around Tuomas to make sure hes ok. He actually has the vocal feed to his in-ear monitors turned off for the song...even 10yrs removed, it's painful. But holy crap, what a performance, right?! Pure emotion. I hope after learning the deeper meaning, you rewatch the video with fresh eyes (and read those lyrics!) I've seen hundreds of reactors just weep thru this...its so important to the pathos of the band! Thanks for the appreciation and tact you showed us!
This song always makes me want to give Tuomas the biggest hug. He killed himself in the lyrics in this song instead of real life. He was very depressed and thinking about ending it all. I'm glad he found the spark that kept him alive.
I have said before and say it gain: Floor is not just a great singer but also dives to the world of each song,she lives songs thru and that is very rare skill....But that is not all, she takes also listener with her to that same world of song.

As I am discovering, lol, yes. Every time.
There is just something so beautiful about this performance in-particular. Tuomas's open vulnerability. Emppu and Marko checking in with him throughout the song. Floor and Marko performing their respective portions of the vocals with just the perfect emotion called for by the meaning of each movement. Tuomas singing along with some of the deeper, more emotional parts. Emppu and Marko going over to Tuomas and the three of them playing together in support of each other as the three remaining members of the band from this particular incident (I don't know that I can express how deeply moving it is every time I see these men showing vulnerability and emotional support; you just don't see that in positive ways in much media.) And finally that very soft but hard-hitting 'Thank You' by Floor at the end, said very specifically to Tuomas. Just the perfect people come together to create the most beautiful and perfect piece of art.
What gets me about this performance is... - well, one of the many things - They perform this magical journey of emotion, with absolute beauty, through despair, a train to the gut, then gently letting you down .... And then Floor ends with a simple, single, heart-felt 'thank you', letting us know that it was their honor to take us on that journey.
I completely agree. I don't know if it was obvious, but the last, sort of, "act" of this performance completely took me by surprise and stripped me down to the studs. It is such a powerful performance.

It's always good to see a reaction by someone who understands the performance side of Nightwish and, particularly, Floor. You also read the body language, which is great and to be expected from your profession. I'm sure others will fill in the backstory, which is lengthy.

This was an experience, watching you watch this and experience the feelings without the background of the story itself (which I'm sure people will fill you in on) but it was like you got it, you got the feelings behind the story which was beautifully emotive. As an empath/hsp myself it was like a double whammy feeling the songs emotions as well as yours! Can I ask sir if you are an empath or hsp yourself because I reay do get that from you x
I asked Floor on her fan Friday videos on RUclips how she manages, as an empath and hsp to be able to sing like that with all of the emotions expressed whilst not breaking into tears herself, she said that she has to prepare and cry the tears beforehand to then perform but that at very emotional parts she can't look at the audience or she would break down!

I am not afraid to admit that this is a reaction that made me a little nervous. I go into some reactions with this anxiety that I won't have anything to say or that the song just won't affect me in a way that the fans of that artist may expect it too. Especially when I know from so many just how invested the Nightwish fanbase is in this song in particular. Thankfully, and I'm sure to no surprise of anyone else, this song just floored me.

Tuomas’s most personal and emotional piece, and in my opinion, his magnum opus. Pure genius. They only performed this 20 times with Floor and not since 2016, likely never again. The whispers at the beginning are intentionally unintelligible, representing people talking about him behind his back. The final piece, Mother & Father, was inspired by words his mother spoke to him during his depression, and is just perfection. Keep exploring Nightwish!
The End (of an era) and the beginning (of a new one). This song is about what happened between the one and the other.

awesome reaction. This piece has a very special place in my life. I know the back story but this piece is also an anthem for those people with mental health issues such as depression with suicidal thoughts, Yep I am one of those! Also in the Pit and the Pendulum Poe talks about the point at which you both give up hope and accept the end, which you really get the sense of in this.
If I may I would like to give you my interpretation of the lyrics and what they mean to me.
The first part, which you note starts with the words the end!! Is taken from Stephen Kings Tower series, the white lands were the home of a type of vampire that fed on emotions, (empathy), so a person left feeling nothing, empty and without emotion.
In the second part, those lines expressing a feeling of futility, all same old same old yet, hating how you feel, then the verse seems to express the effort of trying to pretend to be ok, hence those two faces, one for everyone else and the real one that is private, no one to turn to for help as the people around you seem as upset as you so no shoulder to cry on so you just carry on pretending becoming that whore for the cold world. Then there is the remembering back to when all was good, yet you cannot get there despite everyone telling you “you are ok, it will be fine” till those words just sink you even further into the mess.
Then we have the Pacific, oh wow, the wishing and planning stage, the beautiful sea, just wishing it was over, that you could be under the waves, beneath the pain tucked into that beauty., last goodnight kiss and a valentine that ends everything.
Then that part that starts with being afraid, being raped, not in the traditional sense but feeling violated, alone and bloody scared, For Tuomas, feeling that those who he felt should have been there for him somehow betrayed him, a not uncommon feeling with severe depression, feeling that even life betrayed you, also again the mention of the tide and drowning, many see it as the perfect death!
On a side note here, three minutes and counting, yep exactly three minutes to the point that Tuomas simulates the blade.
Here also note how the music becomes chaotic, mirroring the thought process of someone planning their own death, no logic, well there is but only to the individual. Yet also a sense of excitement and of a journey, proceeding the calm.
Then the passion play, traditionally passion plays were performed at Easter and were about the death of Christ, and Tuomas plays with us a little here, “second robber to the right of Christ! Well at the crucifixion there was only one robber either side of Christ but in the painting The Last Supper the person second to the right of Christ is Judas!!!!!
Then of course the symbolic death and the slowing faltering heartbeat.
The beginning or last part of the piece are the words that brought Tuomas back from the edge. In his case words from his parents but many of us will have people who were there at just the right time and who cared enough to be the rock and love us enough to hold on.
If there is a message in this work surely it is to be kind, to look out for each other and if you can be there, you never know you may just save a person’s life. As someone did mine.
So well said and exactly how I feel when I hear this. I know the whole tarja story, but I feel anyone with mental health issues can 100% relate to this song. It guts me every time.
Tuomas read a book several years ago that told the story of a boy who was part of a traveling band of bard like musician storytellers known as the Edema Ruh. The book is called The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfus.

Tuomas sees Nightwish as Edema Ruh. He even wrote a song with that title.
As many have pointed out and WILL point out, the song is really personal to Tuomas and that's why he even can't stop himself singing while playing the keyboards. I hope you will get filled in with the "lore" behind the lyrics and then it just hits you so much harder.
Also there's one 'hidden' thing in the composition of the song. The mark where the story teller said that "he has only 3 minutes and counting" ends with exactly 3 minutes later blade dropping as Tuomas motions it with his hand.

Great great moments in this epic. But the entrace into Mother and Father with them sitting is by far my favorite moment every time. It hits me that right after the collpase of psyche, all you really need is friends and family close to you and love. Campy but true.
To me, this is their masterpiece. Sadly, as Tuomas told he passed this (luckily for him) and Marko has left the band, this recording will have to do for eternity. And it will.
This wasn't the first time I watch one of your reactions but apparently I wasn't subscribed, weird because I like a lot your videos, well I subscribed now.
With your acting knowledge you bring on the table something new I can't find on other reactors that are more focused on singing technique or music theory, and I like it.
Without knowing the backstory you felt the emotions of this song from the beginning, and that's a statement of how well the music is written and how well Floor can carry the emotions of what she sings.
If you like this kind of dark, meaningful, sad stories my suggestion is another Nightwish song: Dead Boy's Poem - Live in Buenos Aires (2018), you won't be disappointed.
If you want the lore, others will give it to you, I'm certain. However, you already understand it. Like me, you watched the performance without knowing the back story and you were appropriately moved. Understanding why this song was written and performed, and why it's not performed any more, will help you understand Nightwish and, in particular, Tuomas a bit better. But it likely won't change the impact of the song on you. Music is meant to stand alone and shouldn't require an instruction manual to feel the emotion it communicates. I 100% agree with you that a good piece of music needs no context outside its melody and lyrics to evoke the emotion that it intends. This is exactly the reason I continue to go into these reactions having done zero research. There are some who have expressed frustration and called me lazy for not doing my own research before listening. I just find more value in allowing a song to surprise me. I can always learn the details later. And, to be honest, I sometimes learn more from a fans telling of the stories and facts behind a piece than I do from those stories or facts alone. If you want to understand something, there is no one better to listen to than one who loves that thing.

@@tnae Well don't listen to those some, I think it is ridiculous from people to say you have to research this song before you listen to it, everyone experiences music in their own way, so no, while Tuomas tells his story about himself I don't think he necessarily wrote it only for himself, besides if you research into a song you go into a song with a certain mindset instead of being open and experiencing the song, in my opinion, as intended by the writer/composer. This performance of this song stands up there with the greatest of the great: Hotel California, Freebird, Stairway……. From the amazing composition, the flawless playing of each instrument, to the emotions Floor displays in every note. Stunning!

Very good review, you get Nightwish. Look into the backstory of this song. Chase Carneson does a good job of explaining it. Then go back and listen to the song/video again. This is one of my favorite songs and performances of Nightwish, gives me goosebumps every time.

Nightwish has a way of making you feel something in every song, for me most of the time it's just pure happiness, but there are a couple of songs that always get an emotional reaction from me, this and Dead Boy's Poem.

1. I know the history of the band, Tarja's place in it and the background to "the poet and the pendulum" very well.
2. I'm not a "Tarja fan", I'm a fan of good music and good vocals. Like it or not, but Tarja IS (like Floor) a damn good singer.
So if you want to hate her, then do that. I leave my personal opinion about Tarja completely out of the question here. Tuomas and the band have closed this chapter, maybe some fans should do the same.

In my opinion this is the most serious and melancholy (not in a bad way) piece of songwriting that the band (in particular Tuomas) has done. It brings you through a rollercoaster of emotions, from contentment to anger and betrayal to profound sadness and then back to acceptance but takes you on a whole new journey when you know the story and the dark place Tuomas found himself in when he wrote it. The struggles when suicide not only starts to look like a viable option, but also an attractive one. The final verse being a few kind words from people that love you (his parents) pulling you from the dark depths of despair and in essence saving you from what would have inevitably been a tragic end.
You still got loads of material left to analyse and understand this band. Still more than 20 great and surprising tracks to go, believe it or not. Fine reaction!

nice response to a special band. I like the way they draw attention to certain individual and social issues. A good example of this is the song noise by Nightwish. Also a artist of a different order and a good song to respond to is by Ayreon the day the world breaks down.
Tuomas’ anguish resulted in his magnum opus. Poet is unique, but it took Floor to perform it ‘properly’. I love Anette, Imaginaerum is my favourite Nightwish album, but only Floor empathises to the full emotion of the piece. If pacific does not bring a tear to the eye, mother and father should. Then the banshee wail and that gentle little thank you. A lifetime’s emotion compressed into a quarter of an hour. Floor LIVES every moment. And, prior to this number, she goes up to Tuomas, and sings ‘conquering the darkest places’ directly to him as she supports him for the emotion to come in Poet. Yours was a lovely reaction, fully picking up the emotion even wihout the back story.
This song is such a masterpiece, and so harrowing both as a true story (mercifully without the suicide it builds up to - the songwriter is NOT dead) and as a depiction of a serious and significant mental crisis. Personally, I cannot make it beyond the cry of "save me" without breaking because while the facts/reasons bear zero resemblance the feelings of anger and confusion and chaos and fear and the seductive thoughts of desperation to escape (the "Pacific" chapter sounds so sweet...at first...till you note the lyrics and how sinister they are).

I´ve seen this reaction several times but i had to mention this. Just recently I found out that the whispering in the beginning is actually the "Three minutes and counting" part spoken backwards. So of course it´s not easy to hear it. Hahahahaha

Plenty of research for this one. Tuomas would actually have the crew cut the vocals in his in ears half way through the song. “We only have 3 minutes and counting”. Three minutes later is his eulogy. He commits unalive in the song so he wouldn’t do it in real life. The vocals afterwards are from a real conversation Tuomas had with his parents after the original singer parted ways. Definitely one of their DEEPEST pieces of art.
It took me a long time to get some understanding of Nightwish's music too. I remember in 2006 listening to Dark Passion Play, the album this song is originally from, and thinking to myself: "Wow these lyrics are kinda dark, but what a cool song." It wasn't until last year that this song really started to hit different. Granted there was a long pause in there too, a time when I didn't listen to a lot of Nightwish.
If you listen carefully,when the screen goes black you can hear the heart beats but the last is only half a beat .

Yes it’s a very deep song and the reason Thomas is not smiling much and it is because it’s a very painful song and it has to deal with his contemplating suicide he wrote the song as a musical suicide as it were so we didn’t have to do it in real life the horrible loss of his friendship Tasia I don’t think they play the song anymore but when they would quite often he would have to disconnect so he didn’t hear floor singing and you can see the guys go up and check on him couple different places

This is one of the last performances of the song. On this tour they only played it a few times and after that Tuomas took it off the set list. He also said they won't play it anymore.

If you, really, want to see how far the journey goes, check out Floor's previous band, ReVamp. It was her band, and, in my opinion, a much better vehicle for her. It's a much heavier unit, though, still, Symphonic Metal. She was much more experimental, vocally speaking, doing everything from Rock, Opera, and Death Growling. She's, also, a great lyricist, who's very personal with her songs. Check out their live performance of Disdain, Live at Graspop, 2010.

I didn't know that going in, no. But I did pick up on what I thought was (or would describe as) a 5 act structure to the tone and story. It's pretty amazing to do in a song like this.

I was blessed and able to see them live this past spring. They did not perform this song, nor do I feel they ever will again. Once you understand the meaning I am sure you will understand. I can tell you that while seeing them perform it was an out of body experience. I have to be honest that whole driving home from the show that night I weeped a bit because of the experience. The only other bad that ever did that to me from a live show was Pink Floyd back in '94.
After reading your comments and hearing your thoughts on this piece of .using I absolutely ha e to agree that Ayreon is a must. As others have said ...most start with "The Day The World Breaks Down" .....as it is a great showcase of a lot of varied talents involved, and covers a range of styles .

Boy Soprano at the start was Guy Elliott from St. Mary's Reigate Choir School, UK...... In character and using the vocals in context with each other, knowing how it relates as a whole and how Tuomas intended them to be delivered - I think that is what Floor does better than Tarja and Anette on almost every track. The part "sparkle my scenery...." was originally sung by another boy soprano but Floor said that she could do it and Tuomas agreed! This opus is intensely personal for Tuomas. A catharsis. Suicide in song rather than reality. This was probably the last performance, ever, of this song. I love this song in all three forms, Marko's dark, blunt and crude demo, Anette's album version and this one. Glad you felt the seriousness of the piece! Short story - The band fired Tarja. Tuomas took the blame from the fans (and still does!). Even the PM of Finland got involved - pressure much? The final part is the feeling if not verbatim what his parents said to him when he got home.That is why Emppu asked if he was Ok near the start and he and Marko stood by him at the end - because he stood with them when they (and Jukka Nevalainen) said "Tarja goes or we go!".... Starts with "The End".... ends with "The Beginning"!

I have heard but not from officials sources so it may be urban legend, that floor offered to sing the intro part. While it is within her range and ability, her maturity would lend a weight or texture to it that Thuomas did not feel fit the intent. I agree I thing the use of a boy soprano feels more true to the opening lyrics and ties better to the spoken parts later.

I've heard same thing and to me it isn't surprise at all. My interpretation has always been that this boy soprano is Tuomas himself, voice inside his head and how it narrates things. It starts with whispers and there were a lot whispers about different things in Finland before and after Tarjas firing. To me this song is all about how he needs to get rid of 'Tuomas, the poet and composer' who writes songs where Tarja is the main character. Uncertainty and fear inside the head haunts him but he knows that it needs to be done. "The beginning" is when second era of Nightwish starts. Some might think that why he needs to make so big point of all of this - it's escapism at finest how he fully lived his role and how great music was created. Obviously I could be totally wrong about everything, but anyway... 😀
In the original album version with Annete the boy soprano sings the not only the opening part but also the high vocals in the Pacific movement (Part 3) as well as the ending vocals. She was more of pop singer and couldn't hit those high notes. When Floor joined she asked to sing all of these parts herself and Tuomas agreed to all but the opening and I agree that the child like timbre really is appropriate.
Nightwish is amazing. still many to go. And then, when you want to change for a while, move to Ayreon, a prog project, sometimes featuring Floor and Marco. Start with "the day that the world breaks down" Lyric video. you will be amazed again

This is a suicide song.
Tuomas committed suicide in the song instead of real life.
The end of the song was Mother and saved by her and father.
The song is so dark that he will never play it again.
That's why he cried when he played on his keyboard.
And if you saw, guitar player went there and checked on him and talked to him.
This song is very personal and painful for Tuomas, to the point where he asks the sound engineer to cut the vocals, so he cannot hear them and also why you see Emppu & Marko, who are long time friends of Tuomas, going to talk to him during the song to check up on him to make sure he is OK. also of note, during the song when the young boy performs his speech, he mentions having only 3 minutes left and 3 minutes later you can hear the pendulum swing and see Tuomas cutting his own head off.
Lastly to see Floor at the top of her game, stage presence and performance wise, outside of Nigthwish, I would suggest her performance of Face Your Demons from her recent solo tour on her offical RUclips channel. I really think that for your specialty, this would be a real treat to analyze.
