My friends went to Mexico and phones were fine, but they decided to buy 2-way radios while there and won't travel without them now. Thanks for the video.
They can become really useful if cellphone signal fails.
MIDIAND TWO-WAY RADIO GXT1000VP4
these guys never tell you your at a half of one watt your range is only two miles and he could have bought a moble
radio and done the samething by the way when you use in the car like that your range is even less becouse
the car frame interfers with the transmission of signel
They work well on boats in open water, No buildings, tress etc,. to block signal Thanks for sharing!
Used this same model at work for over two years. Good radio, good battery life, good enough range.
ju
good to here have fun
This is a very good radio, I bought two to use at work at they are fantastic. Very clear, long range and good battery life.
a busines band works the same thay cover six floors and 25 hundred feet
your range is only 2 miles
Thanks for making this video very HELPFUL 👍🏼👍🏼.
I own these. The furthest I have gotten so far is 2.7 miles, as the crow flies. I was on a high spot, and my son was at home and 20ft up a tree. It was really clear. The valley's in between we're breaking up. Couldn't be more pleased.
I been so wanting to get these!!! Glad u did this!!!!!!
you have a 2 mile range or line of site
That's a great feature on a already packed full of features radio handy tool to have for life saving information.
and only 2 miles to play with
Wicked Intro. Love it!
thank you so many others have tried and failed reviewing these tools.
Excellent product
Yes I have them for work, very good radios. I like the fact you can also use alkaline batteries just in case:: Double-A,I like the DC car charger excellent,🙋♂️ thank you...
We use this same radios. We travel full time in an RV. We travel with friends, thought they would be better than CB’s. Best we can get on flat land in the Southwest desert is, Mile and a half... still handy. Not no 30 something miles thou....
Baoefeng uv-5r for 29 bucks is what you need.
@@checkmate440 they will need a license to operate those.
These radios can be charged directly wirh the car charger. The car charger plug goes into the MIC CHG jack under the plastic protective flap for hands free.
great review my friend
Too bad he wont reply to comments though
thanks i needed one to go paintball with my friends
We have in UK a system called PMR446 which is similar to FRS/GMRS but license-free at 16 channels insteada 8 channels and since January 2018 we can use external antennas but at 0.5w or half watt.
The PMR446 frequencies are in the name 446MHZ insteada what ever frequency range yours is within GMRS/FRS.
Our frequency range for frs/gmrs is 462-467
the F C C runes everything radio and T V here are F R S is locked in at 2 watts
here that would be 2 miles or line of site
Nice radios as good info.....Good stuff...
Damm I didn't know you had this channel. I'm always on 704tactical
We use these for family vacations. Usually 3 cars we travel in. Better than texting on your phone.
True because I love family trips and in the wild, theirs never wifi
Great video ! I hope to purchase these radios for my hunting trips. There is no cellphone service where I hunt . In case of a emergency these should do the job well. Thank you so much for the review.. How much do they cost ? Just asking !
I tested it "in town" at 3.5 miles and it came in loud and clear. Confident it would go further. Kind of depends what is between the two radios.
you are right
give the guy a gold star your right
On the GMRS channels the reason get the FCC license is because you can use local repeaters in your area to gain better reception and longer ranges. If you build your own repeater with base station, you can gain even better reception and distance $75 for the license 10 year time, up to 10 family members on the license.
GunsOfMassEffect Good point, the license covers you and other immediate family members. The details are on the FCC websiteThey dont exactly lie, about the range, but he’s right, but you’re really going to have to hunt to find”optimal”conditions. They are nice radios, but in less than ideal conditions, you really won’t get more than a mile or two.I have the, and recommend them, especially if you go camping with kids.
I payed 35.00 dollars in june
@@donalderickson-si8ww, I also paid $35, they dropped the fee after they took away some GMRS channels.
I've read that the car charger plugs into the mic port...? Not sure, I'm just researching them now
Great review.. I am planning to buy one because of 36mile range.. now that you said that it can't get 36mile might as well find another HAM radio.
you'd be lucky 1/2 mile or so most days, on the actual 2 watt GMRS freq's.
If you want actual 36 mile range, you need a mobile rig with more wattage and a good antenna, or go get a Baofeng for 25-30$ and learn how to use a repeater. Simplex would be hard at that distance with a handheld, but a repeater or some sort of car-mobile setup would get you that.
I have my HAM license (general), and honestly, I'm not saying break the law, but... No one's really going to know what radio you are using or your exact power output. I haven't looked at the GMRS requirements in awhile, but there were a ton of changes in 2017/2018, and you basically don't need a license any more for those, unless you want super high power outputs IIRC. so, tl;dr go buy a 25$ baofeng (or similar), program it with GMRS frequencies and use that.
DO NOT THROW OUT it will do that you need a program to tune your f r s radio over to
the G M R S my friend is a ham and also hold's a G M R S license so yes you my do 36 miles
i have also a midland gxtpro1000 and from my house to the place were im driving on it can handle for about 4 miles
@EJP I'm looking to invest in a good set of two way radios the box says the gxt can go 30 miles. Any suggestion of what to get.
@@kash7768 radioitty ga-5s... 25 dollars per unit 8 watts
any f r s g m r s radio will work find some a radio guy he can program your radio to a tower then get $35.00 to the f c c then you can be just like me I AM WRXN824
Wonder if anyone can shed some light we got gxt1000 a while back not realizing any possible issues.
I want to be compliant.
If I only use channels 8 through 14. When on the road with family. If I'm interpreting correct I don't need a license. But do if I use the other channels.
Also does anyone know if a radio is classified as both FRS/gmrs can you use any channel without a license or would non license still be restricted to 8 thru 14
These are good but very expensive for me, also they have many functions that actually I will not use and paying for something I will not use is stupid, so I bought Midland LXT500vp3
OK I looked at all of them and decided too jump ship and go with RUGGED RADIO
and here is why no pun I have no dummie buttions just a g m r s radio at 5 watts
into a repeter at 60 watts covering 20 miles radio to radio no mountens
this requires a F C C license and I run a water for it 45 watt base station and I have a license
Very cool Radio
Have you tried to undo the clip on the back of the radio? Mine will not come off and now I cannot remove the batteries. How do you do it
timothy Wise has a clip at the top. Try with the tip of your index finger and slide up.
I use them for my kids as well. They are great!
KNOW YOU HAVE A 2 MILE CHILD LOCATER don't need to hallar
Yea the box I paid for says 36 mile range but I'm only getting like one mile or less without crazy static
Put your unite on medium, DCS I was able to communicate with my only family member my mother , at ch 1 m DCS & up ontop is, WI nxt to the battery. We live in a valley with surrounding mountains in the High Desert Sierra's.. mabey you'll get more mileage out , I just bought mine on 4-15-21 , 7 miles with some static is pretty damn good
36 miles is a G M R S channels 15 through 22 when you program your radio
to the tower in put code I know this as I Owen a G M R S station at 45 watts out and a 20 mile range
Since 2017 GMRS and FRS radios all share the same basic 22 frequencies. FRS radios are limited to 2 watts of power and have fixed antennas. GMRS handhelds are limited to 5 watts, and mobile units/base stations are limited to 50 watts. GMRS radios have detachable/replaceable antennas. GMRS radios can operate on the 8 repeater channels. FRS radios cannot. Channels 8-14 on both FRS radios and GMRS radios are limited to 1/2 watt.
FRS radios are license free. A GMRS license is $70 for 10 years, and one license allows the whole family to operate GMRS radios, as opposed to a ham radio license, which only allows the licensed operator use the equipment. GMRS licenses do not require any tests.
With their ability to transmit at 2 watts, FRS radios can handle most family oriented tasks. GMRS is more of a CB replacement.
The unit reviewed is a 5 watt GMRS radio that requires licensing. Unlike some other radios, the antenna is fixed, limiting potential performance. It cannot operate on the repeater channels due to its design. One would be better off with a Btech or a Retevis GMRS radio. Or one could save a few bucks and just go with an FRS radio.
as of June 6 the my license was 35.00 dollars for 10 years we can talk 20 miles on one
repeter
Hey there! Do you know if the NOAA weather scan works in Australia? Also, will the handhelds be damaged if charged with a higher mains voltage compared to the US (I live in Australia)?
Nope, no NOAA in Australia. I'd recommend that you stick with some legal UHF CB handhelds anyway. Using these would be illegal in Aussie.
as far as I know NOAA is only here in the states you may want to check on the rules in australia
to see if you can use them
the answer is NO it is U S based only as these radio's are sold here and under the rulling
of are federal F C C
I have 2 and one of them is voice activated so I dont need to push the button on the side, is there any way I can turn this off?
Look for VOX options
So is 1 - 7 FRS or GMRS? I always use channel 6, I am also using low power.
well channel on my radio is f r s side 2 watts today 7 years later
These mobile charge through the mic port via the cigarette adapter or ac adapter.
Without the base station?
Just purchased these. Any chance of a "follow-up" vid? Assuming you use them.
I would read the book that came in the box with it
Those little headsets don't necessarily have to cost $50 I've seen some for like $12 on Harvard's good at these radios come with them already one less thing to buy but you could invest in a high-end headset now that you .
Do these have the standard 3.5mm plug for the earplug?
yes thay will
Cool review but these can't go past 1 mile even though it says 36? I live in NYC with hills and buildings, what would you recommend would be best for that? Looking for something good Up to like say 5 miles or so? I have one midland some where(lost it in my move) crank emergency radio and I used to occasionally pick up conversations and receive from NJ and Penn here and there. Also, what happens if you talk on GMRS without a license? Who's going to find out? Unless you harass someone or curse I never understood the problem with that.
MKF30 Try turning the TX power to high. That increases the range.
@@alanbanh Thanks. I know 4 years later lol but I have been checking out older and newer radios and YT didn't notify me about this reply. Thanks for that info, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
F R S is 2 watts or line of site only the radio is set by the F C C rules TO
GET high power that is done on channels 15 through22 are repeter towers
and you radio need's to be set to a tower to work I am licened to do that
@@donalderickson-si8ww Yeah since this post 5 years ago now wow lol. I've done quite a bit of research since then and have found for what I want 5 watt plus GMRS suits my needs. Appreciate the post though. Happy Easter!
why would yo set up your radio on a G M R S tower
and start talking a guy like me ask for your call sign and since you do not have one you would be asked to leave I have a license to operate
I am W R X N 824 out of minneapolis minn
Another thing you all must know : to factory reset this radio , turn off radio ... Press 🔼 arrow keep it pressed down , and turn it on , using the on switch to right & it will reset everything, if you messed up the settings, many people are asking why my presets still linger , but you can reset it back to factory with what I said , above :) Blessing to everyone
Dry good to know for someone like me starting at ground zero with these. Thank you!
Can you make a updated video about the best walkie talkies out right now
HE CANT BUT I CAN the best are RUGGED RADIO's thay are F R S and G M R S and my radio portable's have NO ding dong buttions becouse off road people do not need them

What are better these radios or the x talkers 38 mile range walkie talkie
Both the same range around a mile
I have these and with a short Antennas, of 4 inch, it doesn’t reach as far as it advertises!
Lioness Roar they never do...
Lioness Roar they never do
Does this transmit at 5w on high. Can't seem to find proper documentation
High is 2.8 watts---low is .5 watt.Just looked it up on gov. web site.
@@checkmate440 Thanks always thought this was 5w at least 4 .
hello i pivked me up a couple of them at a swap meet but it didnt have no paper work on it my question is where can i get paper work on it so i can learn how to use it properly thank you in advance
look at the name on the box and call them or the name on the front of the radio it's self
and good luck
so as far as F R S goes you have a 1 mile or line of site child locater on his belt
Excellent Hand held. LOL, yeah, if it says 30 mile, expect at best 3 miles in flat land, and less in mountain.
This is experience - Me on a motorcycle, my wife in a car driving cross country.
Mine came in at 7 miles on M range , DCS ch 1 , 01 cause only two of us use the radios
Kanda je middlen does that as a hipe it is true in point but your radio need's to be set to a tower tone to do that and thay did not tell you need a license to do that I know becouse
MY hand held's are tuned to 6 towers in three county's 20 miles I hope this helps
this is W R X N 824 on the side this is my call sign
The first 1:20 is just annoying music. The information starts at about 3:00.
License users may use the 8 repeater pairs with repeaters max erp is 50 watts on the repeater.
Repeater output = gmrs channels 15-22. Most bubble pack radios do not have the input freq.
Unless its repeater capable.. do not run 50 watts on simplex mode thats illegal 5 watts max. Minus the repeater users on the 15-22 channels.
Max watts is 20watts if you use 5+ gain antenna. That would put you at 49watts Erp equivlant. If you are north of line A canada us border or east of line C alaska you cannot run a repeater on output channel 19 20 21 basicly. Unless its 5 watts. Making it useless. If they detect your signal in canada and you mistakenly use their pl tone that can cause a problem. Or most likely cause interference on the canadian output freq
there is soft ware to do that to get in to the repeter and yes 50 is the limet I run 45th watts
channels 15= 22 are the repeter group W R X N 824 said it this is my license cal sign
How do you acquire a FCC license?
You can go to the FCC website or Google GMRS license and it will take you to the FCC site, log in pay fee, usually within 24 to 48 hours you receive your license, then you are issued a call sign to identify yourself. But if you want more info about, go to GMRS Wikipedia.
From what I have gathered it outputs 5 watts on high, 2 watts on med, 1/2 watt on low. Like is mentioned in video, battery level and channel may limit output. Channels 8-14 are 1/2 watt only.
36 miles is not realistic on any channel. Good radios.
1.5 watts at best
So just a general question, if I wanted to find a radio that also can be used as a scanner how would I come about that
Kids in my neighborhood do not have a license i think license is a joke these thing go only a few blocks.
Can you show me how to use it
use what read the book
Yes. You need a "License". 😅
No idea how to contact other phone?
I only got about 2 miles.
john wright hi. 2 miles in town or what? What channel u used? Thanks brother.
@@ahmadaswad3652 I got 2 miles from it in my small town. I believe i used channel .
What do bullets have to do with walkie-talkies, pray tell?
The NOAA weather report at the first of the video said in the Carolinas. Charlotte metropolitan area.. lol that's funny.. that's in my neck of the woods where I live...
GXT you said GTX just saying
Music is WAY too loud
Actually it didn't bother me but I do think RUclips managers encourage uploaders to play loud and bothersome music on all the vids.
Now i have anxiety
so if I buy one on amazon will GMRS channels work? Or do I have to like send something to the FCC and then they send me some kind of code or something to make teh GMRS channels and higher output wattage work?
You can us GMRS. You'll just be doing it illegally without a license. Just lake HAMM radio
My new Radio s have USB built in to the side of the Radio
So realistically how would the police catch you if I was just using this at full power to communicate between moving cars
Ratpack Gaming 🤫
Never will catch you
Don’t be that guy and ruin in for everyone else
Not actually waterproof splashproof .don't think chargers are smart looks similar to our Midlands I binned my charger I just use rechargeable aa batteries 2500 mah and I cut the links in mine and turned 0.5w to three and a half watts still good radios for messing around with
...
How? Please tell me lol I have midland ones and I wanna see if I can increase the output wattage lol. Thanks
I thought the music was from a pink floyd album
how do you ensure you dont acedentally transmit illeagaly on gmrs and what chanles are NOT gmrs
your radio is 7 yeas old I know it said 34 miles on the box yes it do that BUT you have to tune the radio to a tower ! 2 YOU NEED A 35.00 dollars LICENSE to do that thay lied To everyone COUSE there job is to
play you and you got played
OK midlin did not tell you that you can only be 2 miles apart that is f c c rules thay fallow
A FRS radio.
Your better off getting a ham radio
i have a set of those, there nothing but a waste of money, they have no range there not any better then a cheap set of frs
Cut the Drama get to the point.
