I’ve been practicing this piece on the guitar since this video was posted. I hav ABSOLUTELY MASTERED the part from 0:00-0:01. Only 8,793 years until I get the next second down. Wish me luck!
Sports Card, Your op had me in stitches! All of my ageing retired guitarist fingers are screaming as Molly is displaying her artful mastery of picking and fretboard work. I am in the same practicing camp as you. 🎸🎶🎧
Just so ridiculously talented and skilled (born with the talent, spent untold hours practicing for the skill)! Not to mention her singing and songwriting. We are blessed to have Molly Tuttle in the world. I’m watching this on Thanksgiving and I’m thankful that I’ve found her! That little “aw shucks” chuckle at the end is so genuine.
You want to root for her because she's breaking into a traditionally male genre but her right hand and that heavenly voice just wins you over. She's a legit flatpicking monster straight up.
Thanks for posting the full recording. I can't believe this doesn't have more views and comments. When she hits those wailing notes and smiles ... there's a lot of hurt and bad in the world but the good has it beat hands down.
When I see someone play an instrument at this level AND sing while they are doing it, my mind gets blown. I can't wrap my head around how a brain can coordinate the movements of both hands and the vocals with such speed and precision. It's truly amazing.
It becomes muscle memory. And doing 2 different voices (as in vocals+guitar) is like playing piano, where each hand does a different voice. Playing piano and singing gets really tricky bc then you may get 3 voices
It can become muscle memory if you practice for years, but some people, like her, are just naturally gifted... I play guitar, played piano, and this is ridiculously good
I have watched this video over 1k times now and it still doesn’t make sense. She’s an angel sent from outer space, her talent is remarkable and her song choice is on par as well. Thanks molly
What a picker! This video made me look to my guitar under another angle. How come this young lady can be so talented? Thank you, Miss Tuttle, for this revealing music lesson. I have some work to do... for the next 40 or 50 years to come.
I kinda hate when people say this. Like on the one hand I understand we admire people who have an insane level of skill and make things look easy, but you're also kinda discounting what was probably an unbelievable amount of practice skill and discipline that went into getting to and maintaining that level of ability.
Thank you so much Molly, I really really love ❤️ listening to you sing and play. You are a complete genius and a force to be beaten, because your so unique and amazing too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
(Edit: My friend that sent me this just died from Covid pneumonia on Sept 1st 2021.) Original post: A buddy of mine sent me this just now, and I can only say WOW. I've been playing guitar for 40 years (10 years of it was pro) and this is some serious playing. Amazing.
Completely serious. She's become one of my favourites - a lighter touch than most flat pickers, but really nice melodies and runs that always add something musical.
I know Molly Tuttle makes a living as a musician. And I know this is an old classic that everyone and their grandma has covered. But when I hear this song I 100% believe Molly is in fact a trucker hauling a load down some lonesome highway. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
Wow! Saw Molly sing and play this years ago when she was 12-ish? with the Tuttle Family and AJ, at the Kings River Bluegrass Festival. Made me sad that all of her friends from Houston were dying?!?!? Yeah, the line was a tad incongruous! :-)
Love this song. Thought it was impossible for me to play and sing at the speed she does and I gave up learning it. Now I m back and cracked it, you dont neet tabs, in my experience with bluegrass tabs they are mostly wrong. You are better just playing along with the artist and youll get it. Man those tabs for this song really set me up for failure, things were just way off. Happy day or me that I can play and sing this song with molly ! Really thought becasue of this song that molly must be the best flatpickers around becasue of her hand strenght !
This pickin' topnotch but Molly looks suspiciously like my sister did back in the day. Sis was a pianist but quit to enter the business world yet, hoo boy, she and Molly got the same haircut here. Love this kinda music. Just awesome!
The playing is awesome. Great to hear and see her play. Thanks!. btw the truck that became Freightliner was developed by Consolidated Freightlines to help other trucks over Donner Pass. It was known as a White Freightliner while the giant White Manufacturing Group built the trucks. Mercedes also owned the brand. A legendary truck from the day... lot of songs about White Freightliners and Macks. Thanks again
Whoa..... good eye sir! It shows that great musicians listen to all styles of music. I couldn't think of a record more different than Black Sabbath self-titled when compared to her style of music. I mean John 5 is a sick country style guitar player yet he toured with Marilyn Manson for years. Please don't think I'm comparing Manson to Molly Tuttle haha. Just an interesting example of a guitar player who can do different things.
@@mattlawson714 black sabbath eponymous is damn near the same level as this song. You should have said scum by napalm death if you wanted complete opposites lmao.
@@skeet25s i know talent, isn't anatomical, although it can help to have long fingers, there are still great players that don't have that advantage, with music you can make your weakness's strengths, by doing things differently.
That picking is so, so clean. Just absurdly good.
To pair it with her voice is simply unfair.
I love how she's never showing off - she's just showing us how good the song can be.

i tend to encourage people to believe in themselves, but in this case you may have a point, but still keep practising, because all is belief.

I just discovered her today. RUclips suggestion. I've had suggestions that were 7 years or more late.
“They call it ‘high lonesome’ when they sing like that.”

It's always nice to hear someone cover a Townes Van Zandt song
Awesome playing!
My condolences for the loss of your friends from Houston.
Keep rockin Molly!!!
This is rapidly becoming my favorite song. She's great.
The best White Freightliner EVER

FMD!! What hands, what feel! And what a voice, too. She is a truly special player.
well, that picking of course - incredible! ....also lets not forget THE POET who wrote the song and give a hand for the immortal Townes van Zandt
There should be a category for something like this. She is absolutely the best in the world.
I like the juxtaposition of this music with the Black Sabbath record in the background...
Astonishing and inspiring.
The nonchalant giggle at the end just capped it all off. So amazing! Talent no, Virtuoso is a more apt description!

Anatomically speaking she has some advantages going on that no amount of practice will overcome. Not to mention that voice!
What specifically (about her anatomy)?
