A good idea for a video - I find with GPU reviews there should be more of "what gpu to run a given resolution/framerate/settings" then comparisons in benchmarks. For what it's worth for 60fps and high settings in 2022-23 I'd say on the nvidia side gtx 980ti @1080p, gtx 1080@1440p, 2080ti@4k. Or for Radeon I'd suggest RX 590@1080p/Vega 64@1440p/rx 6800@4k
Several months ago, my faithful RX 470 4GB hands me a proposal for an early retirement. Then I take a quick look at marketplace and .... I reject it's retirement proposal. Since I couldn't afford better replacement for it. But, I'll promise to give it better salary, newer driver, more voltage, higher fan curve, and more reasonable workload with other benefits in the future.
I have an rx480 8gb paired with a Ryzen 5 3600 and I have to say it’s held up brilliantly. Only game it really struggles with(for me) is squad but that’s understandable with the nature of the game

I have an 8GB XFX 480 in my second PC with an i7 4770. Holds up pretty well in 2022/2023, and the great thing about the XFX models of 480s/580s is the fans are *dead* simple to replace if one or both stop working. I'd say keeping this card even after I upgraded my PC multiple times from 2016-now was the best hardware decision I made. Only concern I have is driver support.
bruh i played re2 remake everything maxes wit htexture high 3gb no lags above 60 fps, also re3 re4 remakes no problem, love that card (8gb one) as a budget gamer

Planning to get the cpu upgraded to Ryzen 7 2700 next once I snag a 5800x3D at around $200 price point hopefully by next year November.
managed to snag one for 100$ just before the pandemic and been rocking it for 3years. Its a loud and hot card but it sure does it job well for the price, though it's about time to switch for a 30xx series card as the rx480 can barely keep up with newer titles
This card served me since 2017 till last month when it suddenly died :( Replaced it with a RX 6700 10GB. Quite the upgrade from the 480 for $330 but I miss the RX 480 honestly. It served me for so long to the point I miss it haha
I am very late to the video, but I got RX480 4GB Nitro+ for 80 euros at the end of 2020, right before prices skyrocketed, and I still have it. Although looking at this review, I noticed that some FPS numbers don't quite match my experience, especially in games like BF2042 and Warzone 1. Both of those ran quite poorly for me, even if I dropped from 1440p to 1080p like you did. (worth mentioning Warzone 2 runs much better) I am still on a 1600X and plan on doing a drop-in upgrade next year with 5500/5600G/5600, but do you suspect some of my worse experiences are just due to older CPU? At the moment, since I have 1440p monitor, I am looking at upgrading the GPU to a 3060/3060Ti, before I upgrade my CPU. Any idea how "bogged" down those GPUs will be at 1440p, having to work with CPU such as 1600X? And likewise, I was also surprised at how poorly Halo Infinite ran. The game was really fun, and I put around 60 hours into the multiplayer, but I can deal with 30fps shooters only for so long 😂 Although, I revisited the game recentely due to new Season Content, and I must say that the new maps that were added, run much much better! So it feels like the default maps are just really poorly optimized for whatever reason, which is a shame. Thank you a lot for running the tests on these older graphics cards, if anything, it's a good way to check if people who still own them, are getting the most out of them!
Still using mince since 2017, using 2560*1080 resolution and it holds up pretty well. I need to tweak every game (have to set more recent games at medium settings) and cap fps at 50 so the card doesn't explode, temps can get really high otherwise.
Yeah man, I really feel like you need the dynamic Rez disabling mod for ff7, otherwise there is little point to benchmarking it at all, since not all are playing on the same field so to say
We learned that page files matter in gaming if you have 8gb of ram, but what about lower? Can the page files on an m.2 drive make games stutter free? Even lower what about 2gb, interested to see this being tested 😆
I started work on a PF video a while back, but it wasn't working out. I was using the Fury X, as I did in the 8 vs 16GB video, and got the feeling that the GPU's 4GB frame buffer wasn't big enough to guarantee it wasn't a bottleneck. I recently picked up something a bit more powerful with more VRAM, so I might revisit the topic in the future. The problem is I have too many ideas and not enough time to make them all!
Well, ideally your GPU *should* be running at 100% while gaming. If your CPU is only at 5%, either you are playing a game which isn't very CPU dependent, or which doesn't use many threads, or your CPU could in theory support a much more powerful GPU. It's not a bad thing!
I can pick up an rx480 for £85, or an rx570 for £110, both are 4gb. Do you think it's worth the extra for the rx570. I'm building my first pc, and I have an i3 10100 cpu
An RX 570 is an overclocked RX 470, so has fewer shaders than the RX 480. The overclock might count for something, but I'd expect them to be roughly equal- or, in some cases, the 480 might even be faster.
