@@somehow_not_helpfulATcrap Yeah, I actually upgraded that one pretty quickly back in the day. To a HD 7850 2gb. That one was a beast for Far Cry 3. And what a game for its time Far Cry 3 was! The HD 6850 lay alone for many years. When I sold the old PC with that HD 6850, I checked out Far Cry 3 and it it still did play it sort of OK.
I don't think Far Cry 3 is any worse than Far Cry 6 for example. So many older games to be experienced by young gamers.

You could see great looking games running very well on the 6850 but the games had to be AMD sponsored with game specific drivers like Bioshock Infinite for example. Then there was stuff like Arkham City which looked great but ran poorly imo. Big gigantic nearly no holds barred upgrade with virtually every game I wanted to play buying the 280x.

For Black Ops, you can remove the cap by editing "config" and "config_mp" inside the "players" folder.
You can add a key bind like this: bind P "com_MaxFPS 0"
The zero is to remove the cap itself, you can add any desired number there instead if you wish to cap it to a certain framerate.
You will bind the command to the "P" key. You can set any key you want if you so desire.
This method also works for CoD 4 and WaW.

^ That's true. I don't know why Black Ops 1 had the console removed from the game options tbh. It made it harder for PC players to change the field of view
Although for CoD4 and CoD5 it's easier I believe since game console can be enabled the settings, so it's just inputting the command ("com_MaxFPS 0") and running it

I just got back my main PC that was a FX 8370 GTX 980 Build with 16gb of 2133MHZ.. I replaced it with a much more capable 5950x RTX 3080 System running 32GB of system memory. The person I sold it to, had bought it for a son, who stickered up the PC and ran it into the ground as I would also do if I were that age. I was given the PC back because the family no longer used the system (since PS5 released) and it was in the garbage pile in the garage if no one wanted it. I repaired the case damage, and cleaned the system thoroughly. After a fresh windows 10 install and all drivers installed, I netted a PC that I first enjoyed for years, sold and got money for, received back, and is now my main home theatre PC. It is where this comment is being left right now. Keep OLD PCS ALIVE EVERYONE. Every PC has its place. Keep E-waste out of the landfill and find a purpose for something if you can. This PC hands down has been literally the workhorse at this house since 2010. Cant believe its back.

Ahhh, I remember the 5870 (I know this is about the 6870). I remember I already had one and found out about bitcoin- mined a coin a day when the price was around 1-2 dollars- it was one of the best mining card back then, before ASICs or other specialized mining hardware existed, it was all GPU mining back then and AMD cards were the best you could have, I was lucky I had one instead of whatever the nVidia alternative was at the time. I ended up owning 5 or 6 of them which all paid for themselves from mining. I so wish I'd held onto some of those coins, mined a few hundred of them total and made a small profit but everyone I knew in real life thought I was getting scammed... I love rubbing it in their face since they were main reason I stopped mining- I should not have and I should have saved some- hindsite 20/20!
Another grand video! Love this old hardware! You've got to include the original Crysis benchmarks with these older cards though! One of the most undervalued aspects of cards and this is a perfect example is bandwidth, bandwidth is pretty king in a 256bit one like this will beat a 128bit one of some levels higher because it can capture, create and convert, return to the CPU stack and the monitor output twice as fast as a 128bit card. Its prob why too my RX570 is still pretty potent as that has 256bit bandwidth on a large 8gb pool of gddr5 as I know my card will trounce 128bit variants and surprises me no one picks up on size of the data channelling. So my advice to anyone buying a video card in comparison is check out the data handling, 256 will always be better than 128, 396 of course is even better, no matter how big the memory is, the processor is etc, a 128bit data channel will choke your gaming mercilessly.

Meanwhile, console gamers can just throw the game in their machines and (more or less) just play. If you like fiddling with things to make them work that’s fine, but let’s not pretend that such a massive abdication of developer responsibility is any kind of plus, especially with where chip prices are and where they’re inevitably headed.

Heck, a GTX 770 or 970 (best Nvidia card ever made together with the 1080ti) will run circles around it for quite cheaply. I mean, save for an extra month and get one of those.

You forgot to mention the 1000 lb gorilla in the room: Power Consumption. You will NEED a strong PSU to run this card. An RX 460 is like 50%-75% more powerful while using half the actual power (or less). Spend the money on something more modern and get a cheaper lower output PSU. Now if you just happen to have a 1200 watt PSU already.. then try CrossfireX!
ALSO. I think there are some "legacy" driver shenanigans with these cards. Way back when I had my HD 6950s they each had a Passmark average score of 36XX. Now it's 26XX for one HD 6950. No way a GPU's average scores should drop 30% later in life. That shows the later scores are WAY lower to drop the *average* that much. What the heck is going on? I've heard of similar behavior on older NVidia cards too.
