  • Today we're revisiting the GTX 1050 Ti. Once a popular entry level GPU, this 4GB graphics card is only getting cheaper and cheaper, especially as prices return to normal. I didn't expect much from this thing in 2022, but I have to say the gaming results were still quite surprising...

I honestly think the 7870 was the most impressive card (300$ at release, I bought mine for 250$ in 2011). its alkalies heel was the 2GB VRAM (which was normal at the time of release) as well as AMD ditching driver support later on. But the funny thing is, The card still run modern games in 2022 with the help of community drivers.... 11 years later, that is honestly INCREADIBLE which makes it the most impressive GPU in my book. It has DX12 and Vulkan support. You can run Doom Eternal, Forza Horizon 5, God of War, RDR2 and Cyberpunk even. Sure it's mostly 1080p ~30fps. But still, for a 11 year old ~250$ card it's pretty dope.

In term of cheap GPU's I personally recommended the rx570 it's really good for 1080p, it's gonna run everything you want and with correct settings. if you don't mind having less than 60 in singelplayer games you can even turn up settings to high/Ultra at for 40ish fps wich still provide a very enjoyable experience, especially if you're using a controller (what I personally do). And let's not forget that it comes in two versions, 4g of vram and 8g, if you can find the 8g version (which I have) that rules out any vram issues you could get with only 4

I know you are expecting the quality of life upgrade but you will still be surprised by how much difference it makes. If I can give you a tip though: If you can once you have put your OS on SSD do a fresh format on your HDD. When you then reinstall your games/data it will be recorded far more lineally meaning that your HDD with all the random OS writes removed will work faster too on top of the fact that it isn't having to stop accessing it's stored files every other millisecond to do OS stuff. Also please remember to never defrag an SSD, totally unnecessary(no mechanical read system) and it shortens the life of the NAND chips.

I've had my current pc with R5 1600 + 1050Ti for like 5 years now, and I think I'll keep this rig again for another year. Looking into these types of videos, it shows that the card is still decent and can still handle most modern games with some adjustments in the settings.
Another thing I'd like to add context as well, most of the games being featured in benchmarks like this are games that I have no interest in playing, so I kinda see no reason to upgrade at the moment. Heck, most of the games I've been playing on PC recently are either ports of JRPGs from the PS3/PS4 and some indie games which doesn't really need high specs. For the remainder of the year, I only have one game I plan to get on PC and that's Soul Hackers 2 and the sys req for that isn't even high.
So yeah, guess it's another waiting game for me. I don't see the likes of Elder Scrolls VI or the new Witcher game to come out anytime soon anyway, so I might end up building a pc with the RX8000/RTX50 series in the future lol.

I found the oem gpu for 34$ free shipping, it’s got 2gb gddr5, and after overclocking I found it had around half the performance as the 1030, which for 35$ I would say it is alright for the price. Also something to note it comes in low profile great for sff builds, which is what I was using it for.
The overclocking ability of this card was insane, i managed to get a 1100 MHz for core, and 1400 MHz in memory clock, or 6500 MHz depending on the program you use for overclocking. This saw a from a 24 fps to a 40 fps jump at least in one of my games. I had used gpu tweak 3, and I went into settings and enabled higher overclocking limits. I don’t recommend overclocking quiet this high but I saw that it was stable while running. But anyway if you made it this far, Thankyou I would just love to see a review of this card including overclocking.

One of the things that made the 1050Ti significant was that it was spared from the price gouging of the cryptocurrency mining boom at that time. This was circa 2016/2017 and RX580s were being sold upwards of $400. Even in those bad conditions, budget gamers, including myself, could enjoy PC gaming.

I modified the aluminium heatsink with a small cut out to allow more airflow to the vrm chips to keep them cooler while making it last longer but I do have the original heatsink for it in case if I ever want to sell it. I paid €100 back then but now they are asking a lot more money today

Bit of a testament to how 'progress' if you wanna call it that has slowed down a lot in the last 10-15 years - for most of the 90s by the time you got your GPU home from the store it was obsolete!

Turn off ansitropic filtering an all cards, or set to lowest, you don't need it. When you move or move the mouse, you automatically blur any sharp jagging lines, and ansitropic filtering puts a massive hit on FPS. Unfortunately, it's usually on by default and sometimes set as absurdly high as 16x. Set it to OFF.

I like that you said "clip" as you were loading a clip into the M1 in the BFV gameplay. Also BFV is way more optimized than 2042 is as 2042 doesn't do a good job making out GPU usage so it's probably better for benchmarking anyway.

I bought a GTX 1050 Ti back in 2019 at $120 on Amazon, but I wasn’t able to use it until I got a new motherboard with UEFI (instead of legacy BIOS). The problem seemed to be some incompatibility between my pre-2015 AM3 motherboard and the VBIOS on the EVGA video card. But, It also didn’t work on my brothers’ PCs (both with Proper UEFI, and one Intel and the other AMD). I almost sell it, but I keep it anyway. Nowadays I avoid video cards that don’t require auxiliary power and only consider 60 series cards or above. Both GTX 1060 and RTX 2060 didn’t have this weird incompatibility problem, although rare it was very frustrating. Never had a problem with the GTX 760 and GTX 560 either. Just sharing my first hand experience.

Recently after agonizing about low-end GPU for my small-factor PC I ended up with a GTX 1650 and I'm super-satisfied with the performance, but what I've seen from the market 1050ti is much easier to get a bargain on, both used and new. I have a lot of affection for both models, they tend to be quiet and reliable thanks to the low power draw and can still offer quite a lot of punch, more than enough for most older titles and Indies. :)

I do also use a 1050 Ti in a HP Pavilion prebuild system with a Ryzen 2600 and 16 Gigs 3200 and it also runs well!
I play Forza Horizon 5, AC Origins and Subnautica Below Zero all at high settings in 1080p. And in FH5 it's between 45 and 55 fps, which is fine by me, because I am used to 30 fps.
Don't know why so many want to play at exactly 60. I think I cannot see when there are 5 or 8 fps missing. ;o)
I was surprised as well by its performance, but it's 75 Watt still is a blessing for an OEM system with a non standard PSU with 310 Watts and no 6 Pin connector.

Those are almost impossible to find nowadays, though.) The 1050 Ti card is still quite respectable, however, and I still buy them when I can get a decent deal. I'm the family (and work) computer geek, so when I put a system together for someone, it's usually because they need something that performs reasonably well yet doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

The official prices at the time in the US were $160 for the 1650 and $170 for the 1650Super. Massive upgrade and superb value for money(I mean even though at the time YT tech channels slagged off the 1650 try getting them prices for performance since), 1060 6GB performance for almost half the price. I think the last time Nvidia gave consumers a deal was when they dropped the 1650S and the 1660S.
